Fortitude
I hear you growl, and that sound is followed by Tessaiga being unsheathed. I watch you, and despite the compromised situation, because every time you enter battle, be a small or a bigger one, inside me the necessity of seeing you and remembering how strong you are, surges. That was the first thought that shone inside my mind about you, the day I freed you from the seal that had you tied to the Sacred Tree, and saw how you rose through the air to defeat that centipede demon as if you were cutting a piece of paper.
In these moments I see how you throw yourself against those serpent demons, your movements full of agility. You push yourself against the ground, and the pressure lifts you over the head of the biggest one. With one of your feet, you touch one of them slightly, then turn around with that same movement, as if dancing through the air, and trace a cut with Tessaiga, severing that being's head. Immediately after, as if you've seen it approach you, you take advantage of the falling corpse to jump in a somersault to dodge the one coming from your back, reaching for your legs. Your sword flashes again, and another head hits the ground.
I regret having to leave the show of your fight, for I need to fight too.
After a long while, we've managed to clean the nest branching bellow the earth. They were many, yet we still came out on top. I see you sheathe Tessaiga, and despite the many stains on your clothes and hands, due to the fight, you keep that dignified posture which has always been one of your traits, and that I managed to dilucidated through our fights, together; the same time that helped us trust in each other, in our qualities and fortitudes. I think I began to discover your fortitude when you turned into a human for the first time in front of me, and despite having lost everything that could be said to be your strength, you still faced that spider demon.
Since we met, and until now, I believe I've come to comprehend, through many experiences, the difference between strength and fortitude. When I saw you fight for the first time, I noticed immediately the strength behind every one of your movements, even if the first strength you wanted to wield was an arrogance you sought to protect yourself, of being seen as weak or inferior. That is something that, even now that we are together and are inseparable, you still struggle not to use as a weapon from time to time, to protect yourself of showing that huge sensibility that composes you.
"Are you comfortable?" You ask. I'm on your back, and we are on our way back to our home.
"Yes, but you know you don't have to carry me." I tell you, gently, and a bit sleepy from the rhythm of your steps.
"I know. I like to do it." You answer, as usual.
"I like that you do it." I surrender to the inevitable. I know that making me feel at ease is also part of your fortitude.
