MUGEN

Experience

.

As I near the cabin we share, I begin to sense you are not inside. Your scent is there, it lingers, yet it lacks the intensity of your presence, and once inside, with a few fishes held in hand, I find an empty place and the fire on the verge of extinguishing. I leave the fishes inside a clay recipient, and place a log on the still burning embers of the hearth.

I step outside next, and stand right on the small landing before the entrance, observing the forest and seeking your scent. The sun is going to start setting soon, and despite not wanting to invade your time alone too much, I want to be by your side once the light begins to die.

I close my eyes, and seek focus, perceiving the scents like waves of invisible smoke that tell me of what has been.

"There." I express once one of those waves, brings with it your essence.

I venture inside the forest now, and I'm close to you in but an instant. I find you encompassed by trees, a basket hanging off your arm, as your remove the fallen leaves with a long stick. The light slipping through the naked winter branches, allow me to see reddened tones on the skin of your cheeks, reminding me of the tones I saw on you, bright and vivid, a few nights ago. I can't help smiling before the memory.

"It's getting late." I tell you, gently. I don't want to scare you; you've warned me of it a few times now.

You turn around, and the surprise in your eyes turns to joy in but a second. I think I may never be able to express, not with justice at least, everything I feel when your light settles on me.

"Look! I got mushrooms for dinner!" The happiness overflowing from you, as you show me the basket with your treasure, captures me, deepening the spell I'm under.

However, I find my center.

"These aren't like the ones from the other night, right?" I ask, as I get closer to smell what you've brought.

"I hope not." You say, looking at the contents of your basket.

"I believe they aren't." I confirm, once I've identified them through the smell; A cooked mushroom is not the same as a fresh one.

I look at you again, and see your brown slightly furrowed.

"What's wrong?" I seek to know.

You shrug, then look at me, avoiding to remain in keeping your eyes in my eyes. I can't help feeling restless before any action that may push you away from me.

"I haven't said I'm sorry about it…" You say, "… because I'm not sure I regret it."

Then you look at me again, and this time you remain there.

I take half a step towards you, then a full one to rest my hands on your waist. Your gaze drops again.

"Eh, Kagome. Look at me." I ask you, gently. I'm not good with romance, but that doesn't prevent me from wanting you close. "We don't have to regret it. It happened, and that's it." I shrug, then smile when you look at me." Besides, it happened while we were together, and even if we don't need it, it was… fun?"

I admit that the magic mushrooms were quite an experience.

I see you smiling, then laughing, and once again, you look just as bright as you were that night.

"I like it when you glow." I say. Your eyes widen in surprise.

"You haven't been smelling hallucinogenic mushrooms, have you?" You sound alarmed, and your expression is… wonderful.

I let out a hearty laugh that drags you to laugh with me.

A new vision of MUGEN!

This drabble makes an allusion to the story I wrote for a contest, and that's available in Spanish on my account. I hope to be able to upload it in English at some point.

Thank you for keeping me company in this adventure that is to create.

Anyara.
