MUGEN

Adventure

.

The sound of the rain against the leaves, together with the smell of the dampened earth, should have a relaxing effect on us both, yet such was not the case. We stand side by side in absolute silence, waiting underneath this tree sheltering us from the water.

I take a deep breath, and release a sigh out of holding back the "I told you so." That keeps repeating inside my mind. You, on your part, look at me with those intense chestnut brown eyes of yours, while I refuse to meet that gaze, reinforcing the conviction of my decision, turning my head slightly away from you. There, I hear your strong huff; a strange gesture, coming from you, which finally makes me look in your direction, albeit sideways.

"Alright, out with it." You urge me, which only manages to thin my lips into a line, holding back my words. "InuYasha!" you insist, your voice in a strange mix of anger and dismay.

I breathe in deep once again, then release it, full of resignation.

"You know it already." I say, finally, as I fix my gaze forward, on the thick and wide forest separating us from our cabin. Usually, it'd be easy for me to cross it with you on my back.

You huff again, and I find it strange this time too. The rain begins to fall on earnest now, and the tree sheltering us is unable to keep it from reaching us.

"I know, I should have stopped collecting sooner." You accept with a certain air of defeat that, damn it all, softens up my heart.

Now it's me who huffs, as I take my kosode off, and place it on your head.

"Don't!" You complain. "The two of us are going to get wet."

"It's as if you don't know me, woman. I'm quite strong." I smile almost without thinking; a gesture that surprises us both.

"It seems you don't remember what kind of night we are under." You point at the moonless dark sky.

"That doesn't matter." I defend, not willing you let you get wet.

"It does matter." You try to reach my height so that the kosode shelters us both.

In that moment, my body spurs into action, tired of standing still as I realize the rain is going to keep falling whether we want it or not. I lift you to carry you on my arms, which catches you by surprise, albeit that doesn't stop you from holding yourself from my shoulders.

"If we are going to get soaked, we should at least do so on our way home." I state.

Your eyes remain fixed on me, and suddenly I feel this isn't but just another one of our adventures, something you may have read on my face, for you show me that gentle smile of when you give in without putting up a fight. You put the kosode on my head then, and now it covers us both.

As such, we start towards our cabin, and as I note how slippery the dampened ground is, you start to make plans.

"As soon as we get back, I'm going to boil some water on the pot… " Your words take me to recall, in mind and body, the last time we used that pot and frolicked about inside the warm water, amidst kisses, caresses, sighs and intense sensations. "… and I'm going to prepare an infusion that should help us avoid getting sick."

In that moment, everything becomes a mess in my head.

"Which pot are you talking about?" I ask, catching your features through the corners of my eyes.

"The one back in our home." You answer, with a second question flashing in your mind. "What other could it be?"

"Oh, well. You know. I thought… "You seem to wait for me to unravel the answer. "… the other one, the big one, where we… "

You let out a big laugh, so strong and wide you stretch in my arms and I barely manage to hold you and keep my balance. And in fact, I take a step only to feel the earth giving in under my weight, and so we both quickly meet the ground.

"Kagome!" I try to get up, slipping on the mud, afraid of having hurt you despite you being the one that fell on me.

You look at me, then start laughing once again. I do so too, maybe out of relief of seeing you well, or of the sight of you half-covered of mud.

Finally, that night, we used both pots of warm water.
