Cares

.

"You can do it!" Kagome told me, infusing me with courage as she stood at the door of our cabin.

The sun had barely risen, but she was already dressed and ready to go out with Sango, to one of the large nearby villages to look for clothes, vases and something special for their families. It wasn't the first time Kagome did something like that, although it was the first time she did so without me, and the first too, since Moroha came into our lives.

"You can do it!" She had said; and well, everything went well… if one can consider a scratched knee, half-eaten food and the corpse of a serpent youkai right by our cabin, something normal.

As soon as Kagome left through the door, Moroha began to grumble in that curious way of hers, which usually meant she is close to waking up. Her next movement was the usual; she curled in on herself, with her knees next to her stomach… while still facing down, which made her lift her butt. That, plus the bulk that is her fundoshi to sleep, created a pretty fun sight.

Then, she sat, and with her eyes still closed, she asked for her ofukuro.

To tell her that Kagome had gone out with her obasan Sango wasn't hard, in fact, Moroha didn't even complain. Despite that, when the time for her first meal of the day came, she began to miss her mother and the plane she usually emulates to feed her; I had a hard time producing that sound, so similar to everything that had wheels or flew back in Kagome's time… high, unsettling, hardly harmonic with what surrounded it... but finally, it worked, and Moroha was soon clapping and eating her mashed food in tiny bites, just like her mother.

We had a lot of fun during the afternoon, truth be told. After Moro's midday nap, I put her inside my kosode and held her as I ran through the forest, and contrary to what I thought, the faster I ran, the happier she seemed. We arrived at the river next, where I showed her the fish swimming with the current. To feel the fresh water on her hands brought her joy, just like some other times we brought her there with Kagome. She ran along the shoreline, then fell, scratching her knee, then blew on her own injury, or tried to, in an attempt to imitate her mother. Finally, we captured a pair of fishes, and with Moroha strapped to my back, we returned home as the sun began to set.

"You did it!" Kagome expressed, trying to hold back her enthusiasm after she saw Moroha sleeping soundly on her futon, the whole cabin by then filled with the smell of cooked fish.

Right now, it is Kagome who is asleep against my body, tired from her own adventure.

As my gaze traces her features, I thank her innerly for trusting me with this day.

Because I can, I now know I can.

The thing about the serpent youkai though… I'll leave it for another time.

That "You can do it!" sparked the story, which then grew into everything else.

I hope you've like it, and that you tell me,

Kisses,
