MUGEN

That

.

"Is that still here?" I ask, as I wrinkle my nose; I cannot conceive the amount of attention you pay to something so uncouth and lacking in sympathy.

"It is," you accept, "I think it wants to stay."

"Stay?" My voice reaches a slightly higher tone, with no intention of silencing my discomfort.

"Yes." You repeat with a sweet voice that, without really meaning to, overwhelms me.

Why do you like that so much? It's nothing more than a sleeping ball of fur.

"We'll name it." You caress it.

"No." I refuse. If we were to name it, we would keep it and…

"I don't get it. You liked Buyo." You say, observing me carefully, seeking to understand me while I know I won't be able to explain myself.

"It was the only entertaining thing in your house, aside from your brother's games." By your expression, I know my answer is not convincing enough.

"Hey! Must I remind you how my mother would feed you?!" You say, rising your voice enough for that to move in its sleep.

"She was always kind to me, but that has nothing to do with the entertainment," I say, my gaze fixed on that.

You seem to give in to my argument, something that given the unusual conversation we are having, comes as even stranger. I don't get to enjoy my victory, however, given that that is still on your lap, and that you, my Kagome, will smell like that animal for the rest of the day and night. Before that reasoning, I furrow my brow; I refuse, the night will be mine.

.

The moon is crescent on the night sky, I can see it through the window we keep open to better moderate the temperature of our cabin. My gaze remains skywards, although my thoughts are somewhere else, something nearer… and far more annoying.

"InuYasha, come inside the futon." I hear you ask for the second time in a short while.

"I'm not sleepy," I answer, not looking at you.

I hear you move inside the sheets.

"C'mon, don't be a kid." Are your words, full of that sweet tone you use when you want to convince me of something.

I sigh, and look at you.

"Not with that on the futon, Kagome." I stand by what I said an instant before.

"It's on my side," you attempt, still using that sweet tone, in almost a whisper.

My gaze falls on the ball of pale, gray fur laying where your extended feet should be, and I try to imagine myself laying by you, without touching it.

"So?" Comes your whispering voice, almost as if it could touch my skin.

I sigh again, defeated in a battle I give for lost; but just a battle, only today. I stand up, and start towards you. That, however, moves its head and opens its eyes slightly, as if watching me.

"What are you looking at?" I retort, then show it my fangs.

"InuYasha," you name me, extending your hand, which I take as I lay inside the futon by your side, wrapping my arm around your waist. That turns its head again, "I believe Shinju is comfortable there."

"Shinju? Did you name it?" My voice doesn't sound as blaming as I would have wanted.

I hear you smile.

"I did, and I also think she is a girl, and that she is pregnant." You shrug, with a certain joy.

I sigh, and hide my face in your hair, almost being able to smell the cabin full of more of that. I'll have to sleep on the tree.

.

A/N

Shinju means 'pearl', and I thought it'd be a cute name for a pale, gray female cat.

I hope you've enjoyed this short story, and that you tell me in the comments.

A kiss,

Anyara
