"Thanks, Meera!" Scott said, gratitude evident in his voice. "It's still a bit surreal for us, making it through everything we did. But I like to believe the worst is behind us now."

Meera gave a thoughtful nod, "Life has a way of testing us, Scott. Your perspective on it is commendable."

Eager to shift the focus, Scott inquired, "How much longer until we reach our destination?"

"We're nearly there," Meera responded, glancing at the road ahead. "About ten minutes or so."

"Great," Scott exclaimed.

True to her word, in ten minutes, they found themselves at the heart of the forest. The sight before Scott was enchanting: twinkling lights adorned the trees, and colorful decorations swayed gently in the wind.

Even from inside the car, the tantalizing aroma of fresh pastries and sizzling meat wafted through, making Scott's stomach rumble in anticipation.

The trio exited the car, and immediately a familiar voice called out, "Meera! Thought you'd be here in another ten minutes."

Meera responded with a sheepish grin, "Lost track of time, Rob. My apologies."

Rob chuckled, a warm, hearty sound, and then turned his attention to Scott and Inuyasha. "And who might these gentlemen be?"

"These are Scott and Inuyasha," Meera introduced, "They're here on their honeymoon and expressed an interest in our ceremony."

Rob's eyes twinkled with mirth as he extended his hand, "Well, welcome to our little celebration! It's always a pleasure to have guests."

Both Inuyasha and Scott nodded in response, with Scott adding, "Thank you. We're excited to witness the ceremony."

Rob's smile widened, "Enjoy yourselves."

"Thanks, Meera," Scott said gratefully as the trio separated. "This is already shaping up to be an unforgettable experience."

Meera pointed to a distance and instructed the two newcomers, "I'll be assisting Rob with the preparations. If you both find yourselves hungry or thirsty, Bran and Jon have set up a stand right behind the pyre."

"Got it, thanks," Scott acknowledged.

With a nod, Meera left, allowing Scott and Inuyasha to meander amongst the intricate decorations and immerse themselves in the festival's ambiance. They chatted with some of the guests, taking in the array of cultures and backgrounds present.

As the minutes passed, more attendees arrived, and the festive atmosphere grew. A familiar voice rang out amidst the chatter, capturing Scott and Inuyasha's attention.

"Inuyasha, Scott! I didn't expect to run into you two here!"

They turned, recognizing the voice instantly. There stood Shippou, a mischievous smirk playing on his lips.

Inuyasha grinned, "Hey, Ships! How's the castle?"

"It's alright, though a tad monotonous," Shippou replied with a shrug.

Scott interjected, "We were just about to grab some refreshments. Fancy joining us, Ships?"

Without hesitation, Shippou nodded, and the trio made their way to the food stand. The vendor greeted them with a smile, "Welcome! What can I get you?"

Scott looked at Inuyasha before answering, "We'd like some tea and chips."

"And I'd like a bag of popcorn," Shippou chimed in.

The vendor tallied their order, "That'll be five thousand yen."

Reaching into his pocket, Inuyasha pulled out a crisp ten-thousand yen note. He had noticed a jar labeled "Tips and Donations" and wanted to contribute. "Keep the change," he said generously.

The vendor, clearly impressed by the gesture, responded with gratitude, "Thank you for your generosity, sir. Enjoy the ceremony and your snacks."

"Appreciate it," Inuyasha replied.

With snacks and drinks in hand, the trio found a comfortable bench near the stand. They settled down, enjoying their treats and the festive ambiance surrounding them.

Shippou, gazing around with wide eyes, posed a question to his adoptive uncle, "So, what do you think of how they've refurbished your hometown?"

Inuyasha responded with a hint of nostalgia in his voice, "It's truly impressive. And I'm especially pleased to see the old tavern is still standing after all these years."

Shippou chimed in, "Oh, that place is an absolute gem. Dad and I pop in at least three times a month. Everyone there is so welcoming."

Laughing softly, Inuyasha said, "Indeed. Our waitress was particularly delightful. She even told us about the local sights and today's ceremony."

As if on cue, Scott spotted a familiar face, "And speaking of her, there she is now!"

Sango approached with a cheerful smile, "Hey boys! Thought I recognized those voices."

Scott greeted her with a grin, "Hello, Sango. How was your day?"

Stretching a little, she replied, "Busy and quite tiring, but you know, it pays the bills."

Shippou, trying not to sound too eager, piped up, "Hey there."

Sango chuckled, giving him a once-over, "Hello! Aren't you adorable? What's your name?"

With a touch of pink on his cheeks, Shippou responded, "It's Shippou. And this is my adoptive uncle," he said, gesturing toward Inuyasha. "His older brother took me in when I was just a pup."

"That's a sweet gesture," Sango commented warmly. "Well, it was lovely running into you all. Have a great evening."

"Take care, Sango," Scott called after her as she headed off.

As the atmosphere started humming with anticipation, more guests began to arrive. Deciding to settle in for the upcoming ceremony, Shippou, Scott, and Inuyasha took their places on the benches near the pyre.

Soon, Meera and Sango joined them, with other guests filling in the gaps. Among them, Kali and Ennius found seats directly behind the group.

Leaning forward with interest, Meera asked, "Inuyasha, who's this young fellow with you?"

Inuyasha looked over with pride as he introduced the young fox demon, "This is Shippou, my adoptive nephew. Precious, isn't he?"

Meera raised an eyebrow with interest, "Quite the charmer. Is he a were-creature like Scott, or more like you?"

Inuyasha nodded, "He's like me. But he's a full demon. Sadly, he's one of the very few of us left, alongside my brother and those two over there," he motioned towards Ennius and Kali.

Meera's eyes widened with realization, "Just the five of you in this vast world? It must be quite a challenge, being among the last of your kind."

Inuyasha's gaze turned distant for a moment, "It comes with its own set of hardships, especially the way others perceive and treat us. However, while I've had to adapt to this future world suddenly, my brother, nephew, Ennius, and Kali experienced the changes over the past five hundred years.

They lived through the transition, while I was thrust into it."

Understanding showed in Meera's eyes, "Adapting to such rapid change must've been daunting. But from what I see, you've managed quite well."

Inuyasha smiled, "Thanks to the support of a loyal pack of werewolves and, of course, my mate, Scott, I've been managing better than expected."

Before the conversation could continue, Kali approached them with a warm smile, "Hello, boys! How was your day?"

Scott responded enthusiastically, "It was fantastic, especially with the scenic ride you offered us!"

Kali chuckled, "Always happy to help out."

Curious, Inuyasha inquired, "How was the harvest this year?"

Kali beamed, "Excellent! We not only met our quota but have enough surplus to last until next year's harvest."

Inuyasha clapped his hands, "That's splendid news!"

Scott, ever curious about the rich history and traditions of the demon realm, turned to Kali, "Could you explain what this ceremony involves?"

Kali nodded, "Of course. First, the priest delivers an opening speech. After that, we celebrate with food and theatrical reenactments of the great battles of our past. By the pyre, there's a stand where you can get outfits if you wish to join in. We conclude the evening with a bonfire, lighting up the pyre."

Scott's eyes lit up with excitement, "That sounds incredible. It'll be a great way to learn more about Inuyasha's culture and history."

Meera glanced towards the front, her eyes widening in excitement. "Look! They're about to start the reenactment. If you boys are interested in participating, you'd better hurry!" she urged enthusiastically.

Without hesitation, Scott, Inuyasha, Shippou, Kali, Ennius, and Sango made their way to the costume booth.

Sango, with a deep reverence for history, chose an ensemble that resembled the warrior priestess who had once sacrificed herself in a brave effort to save the nation. Scott, inspired by the tales of courage, opted for the attire of a demon king general who had loyally fought alongside the priestess.

Inuyasha, feeling a connection to the realm's protectors, decided on a costume symbolizing a noble knight who had defended the last bastion of the kingdom. Shippou, with his youthful enthusiasm, went for the attire of the young prince of that very castle.

Kali, embodying regality, selected an outfit mirroring the queen, while Ennius, her counterpart, donned the attire of the king.

As they selected their outfits, other attendees were drawn to the booth, selecting costumes that represented the many soldiers, demons, and other figures pivotal to the war's outcome.

Once everyone was adorned in their period attire, they settled down, the air thick with anticipation. The priest stepped forward, his voice resonating with the weight of history.

"Thank you all for joining us on this sacred occasion, one we commemorate once every century," the priest began, his gaze sweeping the assembled crowd. "Today marks the twenty-fifth such remembrance of the valiant priestess, Midoriko, and the brave souls who stood with her in the great battle.

At the ceremony's conclusion, ushers will circulate to collect donations, which will go towards the construction of a temple on this very ground where history was written. Moreover, we'll be offering tours of the cave where Midoriko's preserved form and the remnants of the demons she combated lie in eternal stillness.

We request visitors to look, but please refrain from touching."

The priest paused, letting the weight of his words settle before he continued, "Lastly, our gratitude goes to this year's mediator, whose assistance has been invaluable."

As he gestured towards Meera, a round of applause echoed through the crowd. Blushing from the unexpected attention, Meera offered a humble nod of acknowledgment.

The priest's gaze swept across the assembled crowd, noting the mix of familiar and new faces. "It's always heartening to see both familiar attendees and newcomers alike, especially those who have volunteered for the reenactment. This is what makes our tradition so vibrant," he said, his voice ringing with warmth.

"Apart from the festivities, we have a delightful spread of food, beverages, and other delights waiting for you all to indulge in. It's a time for merriment, after all. But," he added with a chuckle, "remember not to overindulge in just the snacks, or you'll miss out on the delectable dishes our chefs have prepared."

Finishing his announcement, the priest took a step back, making way for Meera, who ascended the platform with a bright smile on her face.

Clearing her throat, Meera began, "Thank you, priest. I have a special announcement to make that I'm sure will intrigue many of you. We are privileged to have amongst us today two distinguished guests from a bygone era. I was fortunate to meet one during his travels to our charming town, and the other, just earlier today."

She paused for effect, eyes twinkling with mischief. "Both hail from noble lineages and are among the few remaining of their kind. Both are truly honorable men, and while one boasts undeniable good looks, I must warn you ladies, the other's heart is already spoken for."

There was a teasing lilt to her voice as she continued, "Ladies and gentlemen, I'm honored to introduce two figures of history, Inuyasha and Shippou. Please, join me in offering them a hearty welcome."

As Meera gestured to the side, Inuyasha and Shippou stepped forward, the audience bursting into enthusiastic applause.
