Upon stepping into the shop, the duo was greeted by a cheerful staff member. "Welcome to the Demon King's Inn gift and clothes shop!" she exclaimed. "For a limited time, we're offering a half-off sale on everything in the store until noon."
Both Scott and Inuyasha acknowledged her with appreciative nods and delved deeper into the store. Scott's eyes widened as they were immediately drawn to the vast array of clothing, which seemed to span across different eras, from the feudal age to contemporary designs.
Drawn by curiosity, the pair gravitated towards the feudal era section first. As they browsed, Scott's eyes landed on a particular piece that seemed familiar yet distinct. "Check this out, hun," he called out, holding up a kimono and hakama set, eerily similar to Inuyasha's but in a striking shade of purple.
Inuyasha approached with intrigue, inspecting the garment closely. "I wonder if this has the same fireproof qualities as mine," he mused.
Scott shot him a playful grin. "Even if it doesn't, at least we'd have matching outfits."
Stepping further into the store, Scott noticed the price tag on the kimono set: 5000 yen. Given the ongoing sale, he mentally tallied the discounted price. With the kimono in hand, they continued to explore.
The next aisle was labeled "Socks and Undergarments," offering both modern and feudal styles. Scott picked out a few pairs of cultural boxers for himself, and some feudal-style undergarments for Inuyasha. A sign hung above reading, "4000 yen each, buy three get one free."
As they ventured into the modern section, they selected a mix of cultural pants, shirts, and hoodies that caught their fancy. Nearing the checkout, the nicnac section grabbed their attention. Inuyasha thought of Shippou and selected some traditional toys, priced at 90 yen each.
He also picked a few for Adrian. Scott's eyes wandered to the adjacent infant section. He smiled, grabbing fifteen culturally inspired onesies for boys, priced at 500 yen each, thinking of a friend who had recently welcomed a baby.
Approaching the checkout, the cashier greeted them warmly. "Hey guys, did you find everything okay?"
"Yes, we did, thank you," Scott responded with a smile.
Spotting the infant clothes, the cashier commented, "Congratulations on your child."
Blushing slightly, Inuyasha began to speak, but Scott beat him to it, chuckling, "It's for a friend, not us."
"Sorry for the confusion," the cashier said, a tad embarrassed. "Your total comes to 9,455.20 yen. But, if you sign up for our membership today, we're offering an additional 10% discount."
Inuyasha shook his head gently, "No, thanks."
The cashier continued, "Alright, will that be cash or card?"
"Cash," Inuyasha replied, reaching into his back pocket and handing over 10,000 yen.
As the cashier prepared the change, Inuyasha stopped her, "Keep the change," he said generously.
"I'm sorry, sir, but we're not allowed to accept tips," she explained, pointing to a donation jar. "However, you can contribute to this jar, which supports needy families."
Scott, noticing the jar, promptly dropped the 544.80 yen into it. "Thanks for your donation," the cashier replied with a smile, handing them their receipt. "Have a great day, gentlemen."
"Thank you as well," Inuyasha replied as they exited the store, bags in hand.
To their surprise, they ran into Stiles just outside the shop. "Hey boys, what did you think of the shop?" Stiles asked with genuine curiosity.
"It's quite fascinating," Scott began, enthusiasm evident in his voice, "the way it blends feudal era items with modern ones—clothes, toys, other knick-knacks."
Stiles beamed, "Well, my shift just ended, and I was heading to the tavern in town. Care to join me? My treat."
"We'd love to," Inuyasha chimed in, "but we'd like to drop our stuff in our room first."
"No need for that," Stiles waved off their concern, "I'll have my boyfriend and fellow coworker take care of it."
With that, Stiles disappeared momentarily, only to return with a man who seemed to be around Inuyasha's age. "This is my boyfriend, Derek," Stiles introduced.
Derek nodded in acknowledgment, his gaze lingering on Scott. "I noticed you're an alpha, like me," Derek began, curiosity evident in his voice, "but your partner doesn't exude the scent of a wolf. He has more of a human aroma, similar to Stiles, but there's something else there too."
Inuyasha hesitated a moment before admitting, "That's because I'm half-human, half-demon."
Derek and Stiles both looked taken aback at the revelation. "You have demon ancestry?" Derek inquired further.
Inuyasha nodded, "Yes, I do. Why do you ask?"
Stiles interjected, "Interestingly enough, I am a descendant from a demon lineage."
Inuyasha's eyebrows shot up, intrigued. "Which demon species?"
Derek replied, a hint of pride in his voice, "Panther."
Inuyasha's expression darkened. "Growling Cats," he muttered angrily.
Scott, noticing the change in his demeanor, asked, "What's the matter, hon?"
"Panther demons," Inuyasha began, his voice tinged with bitterness, "were notorious bullies."
"How so?" Scott probed, wanting to understand better.
"They carried themselves with immense arrogance, constantly seeking confrontations," Inuyasha explained. "And their disdain for half-breeds was unparalleled. They considered us abominations.
Whenever a half-breed panther demon was born, they'd cast them aside, forcing them to fend for themselves. Thankfully, many of these outcasts found refuge in other clans over time."
"That's incredibly harsh," Scott remarked, taken aback by the grim history.
Stiles, acknowledging the truth in Inuyasha's words, added, "Yeah, my ancestors had their flaws, but they also had their strengths. They were a proud and mighty race."
Inuyasha gave a solemn nod. Memories from stories passed down to him by his father came flooding back, particularly those detailing the might of the panther demon leader during the great wars.
Changing the subject, Derek said, "Anyway, Stiles, you head on with them to the tavern. I'll bring their shopping to their room since my shift is about to end."
Stiles, unable to resist, leaned over to share a passionate kiss with Derek. When they broke apart, he winked playfully at his boyfriend.
"Thanks, Derek," Inuyasha said with genuine appreciation.
Derek simply nodded in acknowledgment.
Soon after, Derek headed toward the elevator while Scott, Inuyasha, and Stiles made their way to the hotel's entrance, eventually reaching the parking lot.
"The jeep's just around the corner," Stiles informed them.
After a short walk, they arrived at Stiles's jeep. The trio settled in, buckling their seat belts. Stiles quickly ignited the engine, and within moments, they were on their way.
A few minutes into their journey, Inuyasha asked, "So how's Derek getting to the tavern?"
Stiles chuckled, "Derek loves a good post-work run. Two miles is a breeze for him."
As if on cue, Derek's figure appeared in the distance, rapidly approaching the tavern. Stiles grinned, "Speak of the devil. Let's grab a table inside."
Upon entering the tavern, they were warmly greeted by Sango. "Hi, boys! How have you been?" She then turned her attention to Stiles, "And hey, Stiles! Where's Derek?"
"He is right behind us, taking a quick run," Stiles replied.
As if on cue, Derek made his entrance into the tavern. "Hey, Sango," he greeted with a smile. "I was under the impression you didn't work weekends."
Sango chuckled softly, "I usually don't. But my brother wanted the weekend off to spend time with his boyfriend, so I agreed to cover his shifts."
Stiles shot her a warm smile, "That's just like you, always so generous."
Sango beamed, "Thanks, Stiles. Anyway," she gestured towards an open booth in her section, "I've got a spot ready for you guys, if you don't mind my usual service."
Derek grinned, "Not at all. We always enjoy your service."
Following Sango's lead, the group made their way to the booth, settling in comfortably next to their respective partners.
