Shinobue: A Japanese Flute

Chapter 1: Introductions

Just a few miles from the gates of Konoha in an opening of a forest a half a dozen bandits were in a camp were looking through the loot they stole from a caravan when one bandit said " Are we sure we're safe Uni?"

Uni, the ladies of the bandit group, is a rogue Chunin level ninja. Uni looked up and said " Yea, I know how ninja think and they think we are trying to get as far away as possible." Uni then looked to her right at a cage, seeing a medium size dog with a Konoha headband around its neck. Uni just smirked as she pulled out a kunai then crouched pointing the kunai at the dog and said " What you miss your partner?" Uni saw the dog start to growl so she said loudly " Hey what do you think we can get for this Inuzuka dog?" After waiting and not receiving a response she stood up and said " Hey I…" Uni stopped talking, seeing four out of her five men were dead with arrows in them and the last guy was dead, covered in blood with a full size Siberian Husky standing over them. Uni saw the Siberian Husky was wearing a black vest with white and orange red fur.

" Seeing your life as a rogue ninja made you forget your training." A young male voice said.

Uni pulled out a kunai turning towards the voice and yelled " I'll kill you for this." Uni then threw the kunai quickly drawing another one when she heard someone start playing the shinobue. Uni watched as a figure covered in shadow walked up then she noticed an unnatural huge black snake slithering towards her. Uni tried to move but she couldn't realize that she could only move her head. " What did you do?" Uni yelled as the figure stopped at the edge of the shadow. As the snake started to wrap around her, Uni looked at it thinking, ' It could easily wrap around me and crush me.'

" Now what made you, a rogue Iwa Shinobi, think it was smart to come to the Land of Fire, kill a Konoha Ninja and steal their animal companion." The figure said.

Uni looked at the figure realizing the snake was wrapped around her whole body so she said " I don't know." Uni heard the figure chuckle then she saw him walk forward. As the figure walked forward she could tell the figure was a male in his mid teen's ( 15-17 ) with spiky blonde hair, blue eyes and wearing a hard face mask that was a wolf mouth growling. Uni saw he was a Konoha ninja having a headband on his forehead and a kunai pouch on his left thigh. The figure was wearing a complete black beside the jacket which had an orange contrast. Uni also saw a bow with a full quiver on his back. Uni watched the figure as he started to walk around her which let her see a black holder for his shinobue on his back waist, his quiver was black with orange stitching and the bow was a recurve bow that was black with a orange cloth handle.

" What were you planning on doing with that dog?" The figure said as he stopped in front of Uni.

Uni gulped in fear then said " I-I was planning on selling it." Uni then took a bigger gulp and said " Who-o ar-re you?"

The figure chuckled, then leaned in and whispered " I'm Naruto, Naruto Uzumaki." The now identified Naruto started to walk around Uni again and said " Now, I would usually do what I do to people like you but I don't have the time."

Uni grew terrified knowing she was going to be killed so she said " Wait, I have infor…"

Naruto gave a sharp whistle and his snake, Yumie, bit into Uni's neck, killing her and not letting her finish her sentence. After letting out two different whistles Naruto saw Yumie slither off Uni to the ground then climb up him wrapping around his right leg then to his left arm and rested his head on his shoulder but left enough slack so Naruto could move around properly. As that happened the Siberian Husky, Kitsune, collected the arrows off the bodies breaking a couple then headed towards Naruto. After the snake finished getting onto him, letting Uni's body fall, Naruto looked down and to his right at Kitsune who had arrows in his mouth. Naruto crouched scratching behind's Kitsune's ear and said " Good boy." When he entered his ear Naruto looked at Yumie and said " You also did good." Naruto then took the arrows and pulled out the broken ones and said " Kit you broke less than last time." Naruto heard Kit bark then jump up so he created a Shadow Clone then ran off towards the village.

Iruka Umino, a sensei at the Konoha Ninja Academy, was looking over a clipboard waiting for the rest of his class to find the seats. After noticing everyone was sitting down he looked up and walked to his usual spot in front of everyone and said " Congrats on graduating and becoming Ninja and starting a difficult path." Iruka saw he had everyone's attention so he said " Before I start naming off teams does anybody have any questions?" Iruka saw one hand raise so he looked at the person who owned the hand seeing it was Ino Yamanaka, a fourteen year old girl. Iruka saw Ino's outfit consisted of a purple blouse with matching apron skirt, bandages on her abdomen and legs with her forehead protector being worn as a belt. Iruka smiled and said " Yes, Ino?"

Ino stood up and said " Can I team with Sasuke-kun."

" No, I deserve to be on Sasuke's-kun's team Ino Pig." A young girl said.

Iruka sighed as he looked at Sakura Haruno, a fourteen year old girl with pink hair. Iruka saw Sakura's outfit consist of a pink battle dress with black shorts, blue ninja sandals and she used her forehead protector as a hairband. Iruka listened as they went back and forth on insults so after a few seconds Iruka yelled " Both of you sit down." Iruka saw both sit down and look away so he said " Teams were built after you graduated. The teams are built to complement each other member." Iruka saw a few nods so he said " Ok let's get started." After naming the first six teams Iruka didn't hear any complaints until he named team seven.

" What, why does forehead get to be on Sasuke-kun's team?" Ino squealed as she stood up.

Iruka looked at Ino and said " I don't know Ino but team seven consists of Sakura Haruno, Sasuke Uchiha, Naruto Uzumaki and their sensei is Kakashi Hatake." Iruka heard Ino scoff and saw she was about to speak so he glared, releasing a little of killing intent which made Ino sit. Iruka was about to go on when he saw a hand go up. Iruka was shocked when the hand belonged to Sasuke, a fourteen year old boy with pineapple black hair, black eyes, wearing a blue shirt, tan shorts, blue ninja sandals and a Konoha forehead protector on his forehead. Iruka sighed then said " Questions after I finish." Iruka saw Sasuke nod so he said " Ok, team eight consist of Shino Ambrama, Hinata Hyuga, Kiba Inuzuka and your sensei is Kurenai Yuhi. Team nine is still active which just leaves team ten. Team ten consists of Choji Akimichi, Shikamaru Nara, Ino Yamanaka and your sensei is Asuma Sarutobi." Before Ino could start a yelling match with Sakura, Iruka looked at Sasuke and said " What was your question?"

" Who is this Naruto?" Sasuke asked.

Iruka couldn't help but smile and was about to speak when his classroom door opened and someone walked in. Iruka looked at who came to see Naruto so he said " This is Naruto."

Naruto lazily looked over the newly appointed Genin when his eyes landed on Hinata Hyuga, a fourteen year old girl with short blue hair, pale eyes and pale skin. Naruto saw Hinata's outfit consisted of a white baggy jacket, blue pants, blue ninja sandals with her forehead protector around her neck. The shyness that came off Hinata made Naruto think ' Really Hiashi, Neji.' After finshing scanning over the students he looked at Iruka and said " team seven."

Sakura stood up as did Sasuke and she started making her way down when she noticed the thing wrapped around Naruto was a huge snake. Sakura jumped onto a desk and squealed " Snake." Sakura then pointed at it and squealed" Get rid of it."

Naruto let out a sigh then said lazily " Now, why would I get rid of a perfectly deadly snake?"

Sakura just shook her head and said " Because snakes are disgusting and it's deadly."

Naruto shrugged and said " And? Yamie, the snake, has a poison that if injected into someone's bloodstream kills them in less than three seconds." Naruto then gestures to Kit, who was hiding behind him, and says " He can also kill you in less than three seconds just with a bigger mess."

Sakura just shook her head then yelled " Get rid of it."

Naruto sighed then mumbled " Shikaku was right. Women are troublesome." Naruto turned and said " Let's go."

When Naruto walked out of the classroom Sakura looked at Sasuke and said " Are you going to follow him Sasuke-kun?" Sakura didn't receive an answer but saw Sasuke start to leave so she nervously followed.

When the classroom door closed Iruka looked up at the class and said " Please get into your teams and get to know each other until your sensei comes."

Ino let out a sigh as she stood up and started walking to her teammates. As she walked she saw one of her teammates, Choji, was a fourteen year old boy that was chubby with brown hair, green eyes and wears a white shirt under a short sleeve green haori, white scarf, bandages around his arms and one leg, blue ninja sandals with a Konoha headband on his forehead. Ino then looked at her second teammate, Shikamaru, seeing he was a fourteen year old boy with pineapple black hair, brown eyes, wearing a mesh shirt under a gray jacket, brown pants, blue ninja sandals and a ninja forehead protector on his arm. As Ino got to the sets she saw Choji push Shikamaru as he moved to the left giving her an open seat which she took. Ino then looked around as she knew Choji and Shikamaru pretty well already when she saw team eight was in front of her.

" Hey, do you know who that Naruto guy is?" Choji asked as he put some chips in his mouth.

Ino just shook her head when he saw Kiba Inuzuka, a boy with red marks on his cheeks in a big gray coat with a white dog on his head, turn towards her.

" I've seen him at the compound every once and a while to see my sisters for his dog." Kiba said.

Ino nodded, now interested, then said " Did you see that snake? It's huge, I'm surprised it doesn't attack him."

" I can see why, it's like a pet." Choji said.

Ino nodded, seeing Choji's point when she saw Shino, a fourteen year old boy in a big brown trench coat and glasses turn towards him.

" He uses the snake for combat. How do I know that? No one would have a deadly snake for a pet."

Kiba nodded, then said " But how."

" Th-he shinobue." Hinata quietly said.

Kiba looked at Hinata and said " What?"

Hinata looked at Kiba then back at the ground and said " Naru-uto carries a shin-nobue…"

" And?" Kiba said, interrupting Hinata.

" A shinobue can be used by people to control snakes. From Hinata's observation, Naruto uses one to control the snake in combat." Shino said seeing Hinata perk up a little at the mention of her help.

Kiba's eyes went wide and said " Really so if I can play one I could control his snake?"

Shikamaru sighed as he raised his head and mumbled " Troublesome." Shikamaru looked at Kiba and said " Probably not, like Choji said it's like a pet. The snake has a bond with him and like Shino pointed out he most likely just uses the Shinobue as a way to use the snake in combat. You won't be able to just control it when you like."

Kiba nodded and said, " I prefer dogs anyway." Kiba then looked at the door as it opened, seeing Kurenai Yuhi, a woman in her late twenties with shoulder length black hair, red eyes wearing a white battle dress that stopped at her mid thigh with one arm sleeve that was red.

" Team eight." Kurenai said.

As Naruto walked onto training ground three with Sasuke and Sakura he saw his Kakashi Hatake, a man in his late twenties with tall spiky white hair wearing the basic Chunin/Jonin ninja outfit with a blue cloth face mask and his forehead protected is tilted to cover his right eye.

" This must be Kakashi Sensei." Sakura said.

Kakashi nodded as the three stopped in front of him so he said " Ok tell me about yourself. Your name, likes, dislikes, goals, dreams. You pinky start first."

Sakura took offense to the nickname but nodded and said " My name is Sakura Haruno and my likes, I mean I like…" Sakura looks at Sasuke and giggles and then says " My dislikes are Ino pig and creepy people with snakes. My goal is…" Sakura looked at Sasuke and giggled louder then said " My dream is." Sakura looked at Sasuke again and squealed with a blush.

Kakashi sighed then pointed to Sasuke and said " You next."

Sasuke nodded then said " My name is Sasuke Uchiha, I don't have any likes and I dislike everything. I have no goals and my dream is an ambition to kill someone and revive my clan."

Kakashi nodded, then gestured to Naruto and said " You're next."

Letting out an annoyed sigh Naruto nodded then said " My name is Naruto Uzumaki, you don't need to know my likes and my dislikes are people. I have no goals and my dreams are none of your business."

Kakashi's sweet drop as he thought ' For fuck sakes, I have a fan girl and a depressing Uchiha.' Kakashi let out a sigh then said " Ok you have passed the graduation test making you Genin but us sensei's get to decide if we want to keep you. Usually we do this through a test to see your skills but I have a different idea." Kakashi gestured to Naruto and said " You both are going to spar with him at the same time. Anything is allowed, even killing. He'll give me a brief description of your skills and I'll decide."

Sakura watched Naruto as he moved, giving a whistle command to his dog but did nothing with the snake so she said " Aren't you going to take your snake off?"

Naruto stopped, lazily looked behind himself and said " What's the point, I'll quickly finish this." Naruto turned as Kakashi jumped back, giving a whistle command to Kit to follow him so he said " Begin."

Sasuke charged going for an attack, Naruto not moving an inch and when Sasuke was just inches away Naruto disappeared.

" Slow." Naruto said as he stood behind Sasuke then he said " Also, never turn your back to your enemy." Naruto kicked Sasuke in the back making him fly a few feet then Naruto looked at Sakura seeing she was gone. Naruto then looked back at Sasuke seeing he was gone. Naruot sighed, pulling out two kunai and quickly threw one at a tree and one at a bush and said " You both are terrible in stealth." Naruto saw Sakura fall from the tree and Sasuke roll out of the bush.

As Sakura got to her feet she saw Naruto was distracted so she charged for a punch. ' No one humiliates the…'

" Top Kunoichi of the year." Naruto said, finishing Sakura's thought. He then caught Sakura's fist without looking and threw her over his shoulder. Naruto let out a sigh as he made distance between him and the pink-haired girl then said " Honestly, what do they teach you at the academy?"

Sasuke just smirked as he did hand signs and then yelled " Fire Style Great Fireball Jutsu." Sasuke blew out a huge fireball that flew towards Naruto who just gave it a lazy look. Sasuke watched as the fireball got closer and when it was just a couple inches away Sasuke saw the fireball implode and a kunai flew past him cutting his cheek.

Sakura taking this moment did hand signs creating three clones then charged. Getting close enough to attack, all the Sakura's smirked but before anything could happen she was kicked and she flew back about five feet. Sakura quickly picked her feet up from the ground and mumbled " How?"

Naruto, who can read lips, just sighed and said, " The clones don't create shadows unlike you." Naruto saw Sakura's eyes but he just waved her off and said " It's over." Naruto then walked forward as Kit jogged towards him.

" So?" Kakashi asked.

Naruto, who didn't stop walking, waved him off and said " You watched."
