The day began with the dying flames of the rust-bitten fire pit which last night were ignited with a torrent of flames that colors blended together into a site befitting a sunset. After newcomer's Mark inauguration into the group there was the matter of Naruto's actions. And that discussion in itself was a headache for the blond.

"Cookie for your thoughts?"

Naruto turned to the voice and saw it was Carley. In her hand was a fresh cold Milier Lite. "I never figured you for a drinker." Naruto remarked as his eyes turned back to the silent forest that blocked off the view of the Inn's entrance.

"Yeah well, if the Zombie Apocalypse isn't a good enough excuse to pick up drinking again then I don't know what will." She took a seat in the lawn chair that Naruto had vacated to stretch his legs. "How are you?" she asked as the arm with the beer rested on her left leg and her other hand slumped between her right leg and over her resting arm.

"Better…" he said, unsure in what direction this conversation was turning. Accusations of him making up his metabolism problem to engorge on more food still fresh in his mind.

"You're not letting what Larry said bother you are you?" she asked as she took a sip of the beer.

"No, I could care less what he says or think, but…" he trailed off. Thanks to the food Mark brought they would last for a few months, but when that ran out. What then? Especially considering his metabolism rate they would need to find a solution and soon.

Carley drummed her fingers against the sturdy glass of the unlabeled bottle. She had never been one for drinking, but it wasn't like society could frown upon her developing bad habits any longer. The bitter, dark beer encased inside burned her throat as it passed into her stomach.

"If I'm hungry I'm less proficient and with a lack of proficiency equates to mistakes. We're okay for the time being, but the food we found will only last for so long. We're going to need a plan and soon." He said as he left Carley to her own devices. A few days had passed without much incident. There wasn't much that could be done besides gathering everything they could use for sources of lights as well as fortifying the inn.

In a location miles away a person began to stir. "Mia…wake up."

"R-Rachael?" Slowly stirring a woman began to sit up from her makeshift bed. She was in her twenties, short black raven hair that lacked any shine. She was wearing a lime green shirt wearing black jeans with a belt. Her skin was a light tan shade with hazel eyes.

"I'm up. Start packing up." She sat up and started putting her things in her backpack. She stops when she picked up a picture of her family. Her husband Steve was a pilot who entered the military straight out of college and her son Frank who she and Steve adopted a few years ago. It had been weeks since she last saw them, separated during the last attack.

She quickly put the rest of the stuff in her pack. She also reattached the bowie knife to my belt. She then roll up her sleeping bag and carried it out of the cramped tent. She looked and saw that her companion already packed up her tent and put into the truck.

"We have another three hours' worth of travel." Rachael glanced at her and smile. "Someone had a good long rest, that's good."

Mia was about to speak, turning her head to the road in front of her when someone walked out in front of them. "Watch out!" She slammed her foot on the brake before she finished speaking. The truck screeched and slowed considerably but they were still going at least twenty miles an hour when they hit him. He flew about seven feet.

"We have to see if he's alive." Mia said as she reached for the door when Rachael reached out and grasps her arm.

"Becareful. There's no telling if he survived let alone how long he might have." Racheal cautioned her. At the speed that man was moving he couldn't have been a Zombie, his movements were far too calculated but there was no telling if he was still dangerous.

Mia ran to the body, now able to get a good look at the body. He was in his forties, older gentleman, trimmed moustache with brown hair. She checked his neck for a pulse and found nothing she began C.P.R. and after a few tries nothing. Still nothing Rachael put the first aid kit down beside Mia.

"Gauze, bandages, tape, scissors nothing of use." Mia thought, finally stopping compressions after a minute.

"I-I killed him." Rachael murmured as she dropped to her knees. "W-what should I do, I killed him."

"It will be alright." Her words were weak but reassuring. Mia turned back to him patting his pockets looking for any form of identification. She found his wallet in his left pocket and pulled it out. She was about to open it when she heard a growl from the corpse.

Suddenly the man's hand grabbed hers and started to pull her to its head. She let out a scream.

"Mia!" She yanked her from the man. "In the truck!"

Mia scrambled to the truck and opened the glove compartment and pulled out a Smith and Wesson 500. Rachel turned the keys and thankfully the engine roared to life. A knock on the door grabbed her attention and saw that the man was banging on my door, groaning.

"The hell Mia. didn't you check to see if he was bitten?" she snapped at her with an angry flare of her nostrils as they continued down the road.

"I didn't see any bite." There was no bleeding or any skin rash that indicated an infection.

Just what the hell was going on?

Naruto found himself trying to track the sound he heard. Without a doubt it was the shot of a gun. Were there bandits nearby? Even if that wasn't the case the sound would undouble draw the attention of the Walkers. Taking the flash light he was brandished in case of an emergency Naruto began to investigate.

"What the hell are you doing up at this time?"

To his surprise it was none other than Lily brandishing a lit candle.

"I thought I heard the sound of a gun going off. I wanted to check if it was nearby."

"You should be using a candle. We can't afford to waste those batteries." Naruto rolled his eyes, exaggeratedly held up the light and flicked it off. "The shot sound like it was far away."

"Can we really afford to ignore that? Those walking sacks of flesh are dumb, but people are smart. In a situation like this people become desperate and it's the desperate that are the most dangerous."

"Then we should scout the forest for bandit camps. "

"Then we should make preparations beforehand." Naruto suggested, folding his arms as he tried to ponder a suggestion. "What if Carley and I were to go into town and see if we can find some more weapons? With the exception of Lee's axe we're lacking on melee weapons and we don't want to become overly reliant on our guns."

"There's no telling how long a trip like that might take. The sooner we scout for the bandit camps the better. We can't risk being caught out there during night." Lilly interjected, marking the wood again. "We also need someone to watch the base if so many of us are going to be gone at one time."

"If Carley and I leave early say around seven we should be able to make the trip to and back to town a little after noon."

"Then you better get to sleep." It seemed like Lilly was about to say something, but changed her mind. She quietly slipped back to her room leaving Naruto to deal with his own thoughts.

The following day the journey for supplies had begun. Unfortunately four hours into the search and nothing was found. "Find anything?"

"Not a thing." Naruto remarked as he tossed a side an empty bottle. He craned his head towards another building. "Guess we move on to the next building." The duo walked up to the building and opened up the door. Naruto took a quick look around before they cautiously entered. They could see several items littered around the place.

"Hopefully we'll find something usual amongst this garbage." Carley nodded and they started looking.

After a few minutes, all they could find was a few smashed pack of treats, some bandages, and a pack of batteries.

Carley sighed. "That's everything," she muttered. "We better get out of here." Another successful run had just occurred.
