Finally arriving to Collège Françoise Dupont. Marinette runs to her classroom. It was only a matter of time until she ran into him.
Naruto Uzumaki.
The Ice Prince of Francoise Dupont.
He was not only completely serious and reserved he usually kept to himself. While not rude like most stoic elites would be as he usually was very polite, he kept conversations short and often decline any invitations to hang out or social interactions.
Considering how he barely interacted anyone, people had a hard time forming an opinion of him. He gave off an air of intimation that made people think twice about approaching him. That unfortunately led to some thinking he was arrogant.
However, Marinette was aware that there was a lot more to him than his reputation introduced him as.
The first time she met him, she had run into him while trying to make her way around the school. She had accidentally left her schedule was at home and per usual clumsily bumped into him. From a daze she looked up to see a male looking down at her.
He was wearing a light blue button up t-shirt with a black overcoat on it, light blue denim jeans, and leather shoes.
His blond hair was wild and spike giving him a kind of wild kind of look and weird marks on his face. His eyes were the most dazzling cerulean blue eyes. His eyes seemed to lock intensely on her as if he was staring right through her.
Staring back at the blond she had nearly missed his outstretched hand. Bashfully she took his hand as he helped her up with a surprising show of strength that nearly brought her into the air. She was flustered into silence as he continued to look at her with those sharp eyes.
Blinking a few times, Marinette blinked a few times and tried to find the words, but it was as if her mind was blank. Without a word he broke gaze and walked away.
At that moment Marinette felt like something in her life had changed. Only the sound of the ringing bell broke her from her thoughts.
She had later learned that his name was Naruto Uzumaki and that he was a new student that transferred from Japan. Any attempts to talk to him were rendered mute as he practically disappeared after class.
Her second encounter had been outside the school. She had intervened when she saw some people hassling an old man. Due to her strong sense of justice she chose to interfere and honestly, she wasn't sure where she would be If he hadn't interfered.
She was completely caught off guard when the delinquents introduced themselves as members of the Hornec brothers gang. An infamous gang Paris while not as prominent as they were a few decades ago were still one of the major gangs in France and were infamous on the drug and gambling scene.
The way one hurled racial slurs at her and one grabbed her by the scruff of her neck she soon realized she was way over her head. Fear overtook her and all she could do was plead it would be over quick as she closed her eyes.
In a near instant, she found herself falling back and caught in an arm. The sound of cries reached her ears seconds afterwards. Opening her eyes, she saw that the gang members were fleeing and Uzumaki Naruto had saved her.
The senior citizen was very thankful to them both. Bashfully Marinette replied it was no problem, feeling embarrassed that despite trying to save the old man she herself needed to be saved.
"If you're going to play hero, should probably get yourself some martial arts training."
It was the only thing that he had said that day, but it had a profound influence on her life from that point on. She had taken that to heart and took to learning Krav Maga after spending weeks researching as well as some minor gymnastics on the side. It would cut into her drawing time but being able to defend herself was important.
A couple of days later, Marinette had been on her way home. As usual she was drawn to a situation by her good nature. A child a little down the street was crying. She was lost and calling out for her parents. To her shock and disbelief, she saw the bystander effect occurring as she saw some people were taking notice but were predictably not helping because they assume someone else would help them.
"Hey there little sunshine, are you lost? I'll help you. What do your parents look like?"
Marinette was in other surprise as her ahoge began to dance about on her head. A faint smile formed on her face as she was the normally stoic blond smile warmly and tried to comfort the child.
"I…I can help!" she blurted out then burned red bashfully at the volume and flustered, "I mean, two people looking would help." She added as he sent her a brief gaze.
"Suit yourself."
Before she even knew, she had found himself staring at Naruto and even following him on occasion, being curious about his interests and where he spent his free time. His friends were concerned that she was crushing on someone that didn't seem like he would give anyone the time of day.
While she appreciated their concern, she wasn't one of those dumb girls that crushed on a guy because he was hot and seemed a bit cool. She saw bits of who he was from time to time seeing sides of a kinder person which resulted in her developing into a crush on the blond.
So that's why she decided to finally confess to the blond. She had managed to catch him on his way from the computer room.
''H-Hey, Naruto!" The blond paused as he saw the girl approaching him, a blush forming on her cheeks. He gave her a questioning look, while Marinette blushed, her ahoge curving into a heart-shape. She took a sharp breath, trying to calm herself down. ''I-I wanted to ask you whether you'd want to go out to grab a coffee sometime with me?"
She had seen them turned down multiple confessions before. A curt no that followed with an abrupt exit often resulted in broken hearts and tears. Marinette knew this was a possibility, but she would not let it detour her.
"Sorry, I'm not much of a coffee person. I'll pass." He declined but Marinette would not let it detour her.
''If not a coffee, how about tea? My family owns a tea shop and I-''
"I'm busy, so I'll have to decline your invitation. Now excuse me." He cut her off as he continued on his way.
Marinette's ahoge drooped and she turned around, observing Naruto until he left her sight. She felt downcast by his rejection, but did not let it detour her. He did not add I'm not interested in you and merely mentioned he was busy.
That meant, she had hope right?
Marinette looked down at the letter she was holding. She still had her backup plan. She could still express her feelings via the letter in her hands. She would leave it in his locker and await to see his response.
000000000000000000000000000
Heavy dark clouds passed across the sky, accompanied by the occasional sound of thunder. So enamored in her confession Marinette did not plan how she would get home without getting drenched.
As such she found herself being drenched and shivering as she found herself having to dive under one of the overhangs of a store to get out of the rain. Doing her best to shake off much of the moisture she rubbed her arms as she tried to generate as much heat as possible to warm up.
Why hadn't she had checked the weather? If she had she would have known about the thunderstorm and would have packed a parka and umbrella. And it was far too late to call one of her friends now.
Marinette sighed, leaning against the wall and staring at the dark sky, listening to the raindrops hitting the overhang and wondering whether she should wait it out. She lowered her head, her ahoge jumping slightly when she heard the entrance door next to her opening.
Sure enough, it was Naruto who himself sensibly had an umbrella himself. For a brief moment they had met eyes.
For a moment Marinette was hopeful. "Is he…is he going to?"
But he kept on walking as Marinette's expression became downcast, her ahego flattening.
'Of course not. Why do I even bother?' her eyes began to moisten as tears began to fall. And she could feel herself began to lose hope.
"Where do you live? I'm not in a hurry to get home."
Marinette looked up in surprise and saw Naruto was there, offering to shield her under his umbrella. Despite how hard he tried to make his gaze Marinette saw the smallest flickers of concern and her heart began to thump.
Her ahego danced to life and formed the shape of a heart as her cheeks burned red."Aaawww Naruto." An infectious smile danced on her face.
"Its not a big deal." He tried to dismiss.
As they began walking down the street a giggle escaped Marinette's lips. "You're cute you know that. You have a way bigger heart than you let on."
"Just keep walking."
Despite that the smile never left Marinette's face. Despite the omens she had heard from her grandmother about how Umbrellas signifying farewells, this moment would signify her beginning with Naruto.
