Sherlock pushed the shovel into the ground, making a small hole. The dirt was set aside carefully so he could fill the hole back in quickly. He set the shovel down and picked up the small chest. He had wrapped it in a chain and locked it earlier. The dark haired man set the chest in the hole, and began to cover it with dirt. They wouldn't find it here. Only he would.

The story takes place after "The Reichenbach Fall". John is grieving over the loss of his friend Sherlock Holmes. But his life takes a dramatic change when he finds his friend's phone which has been forgotten at the rooftop of St. Bart's Hospital. A little puzzle has been left behind and maybe everything isn't as hopeless as it might seem?

At the ages of 5 and 8, Sherlock's family moves in next door to John's. This follows them through some key events from that moment until the beginning of A Study in Pink. "They spend most nights talking to each other about everything and nothing, and often times will get so caught up in their conversation that they forget to sleep."

After Reichenbach, John Hamish Watson's entire world was turned on its head, obliterating months upon months of therapy and every good night's sleep for years. Now, he is finally on the mend from his mourning, and Lestrade forbids anything, or anyone, to send his good friend spiraling into crippling agony once again.

"And you're boring," Sherlock complained. The boy paused, frowning, before looking up at Mycroft curiously. "When did you become so boring, Mycroft? You used to be fun." Kid!Lock and Teen!Croft.

Years passed by for Holmes. Cases were solved. Accolades given. Thinly disguised disparaging remarks made. One thing remained constant however: there was always a Watson in his life.
