The team found themselves back to the BPRD. Liz had woken up Maizie just as they drove into the garage area. The four of them ventured into the building and while Hellboy and Abe went into Hellboy's room, Liz dragged Maizie into the infirmary.
"Liz, wha-" Maizie said as Liz grabbed her arm and pulled her.
Liz began pulling some of the drawers, "Help me find the tests."
"What tests?"
"Pregnancy tests," she said as she slammed one drawer closed then opened another.
Maizie joined her to help, "Why would you think you need them?"
"You had a vision, and Abe, well, gleaned it I guess," Liz explained. "I just need it to be confirmed. As much as I would love to have those kids we've seen, I'm just not sure if it needs to be right now. With Red and I arguing so much…I don't know."
"Okay," Maizie said as she pulled a drawer and looked through the contents. Liz cried out and she looked over to see her holding several boxes. "I think you'll only need one."
Liz smirked and closed the drawer, "Oh no. I'm trying all of them. Now I just need a bag or something because there's no way in hell I'm letting Red see these."
Maizie looked around and found one, "Here."
"Ooh, thank you."
Liz dropped the boxes into the bag and then linked arms with Maizie. They headed back to where the other two were. They entered the room and bypassed the men who were watching tv. Abe and Maizie linked eyes for a moment, then Liz pulled her into the bathroom. Liz immediately went to work while Maizie sat down on one of the toilets. When Liz finished her business, Maizie watched her pace while looking at one of the tests. Then a knock sounded on the door. Maizie looked over while Liz looked up.
"Liz, are you alright?" Abe's voice travelled through the door.
"Yeah, I'll be out in a minute," Liz called out back.
They could see Abe's shadowed figure right outside the opaque glass window, his hand on the door.
"You don't need to do that. You can trust me," Abe said.
Abe's powers of deduction travelled through glass it seems. Liz sighed then joined Maizie on the other toilet.
Abe continued, "My readings are quite accurate."
Liz snapped her head to the door, "Shut up, Abe. Get your damn hand away from the door."
Maizie crossed her arms and leaned back with a snicker. Abe's hands snapped off the door.
"You have nothing to fear. Despite appearances, I believe Red would be an excellent father figure."
Liz sighed then stood back up. She went over to the sink and dropped the used test and picked up another.
"Liz…how many are you gonna do?" Maizie asked.
"As many as I can," Liz replied. "Until it's negative, I guess."
Maizie stood up and stopped Liz in her tracks, "Hey. Stop. They're all saying the same thing. You're pregnant. There's nothing else you can do to change that."
Liz sighed for the third time in a row. She dropped her hand to her side that held the test stick. "I know. I just…it's bad timing."
"It's always going to be bad timing," Maizie said.
Liz tossed the stick to the sink where it clattered with a clink. Then faced the other woman. "You know what this means don't you?"
"Uhh…You're gonna have a baby?" Maizie answered confused.
Liz laughed under her breath, "No. I meant you. Your visions."
"Oh," Maizie softly spoke as she took a step back.
"Your little girl. It didn't look-"
"Yeah," Maizie interrupted. "I know. I don't…I don't want to talk about it."
"Maze…you never talk about it, especially to Abe, who deserves to know," Liz said. "It's not fair to him that he can't see his own child."
Maizie sighed as she palmed her face then stuck them in her back pocket. Right in that instant, she realized her little drawing pad was no longer there and she panicked.
"No…Shit! Shit!" Maizie whispered loudly as she scrambled to find it on her body.
Liz was confused, "Maze? What is it?"
"My book. My little drawing book! It's gone!"
Liz realized what she was talking about. She knew where it was. She had seen Abe holding it when Hellboy stepped into the truck. She had a choice to make for her friend. Tell her Abe had it or let it play out. She really thought Abe deserved to know.
"I'm sure we can find it. Maybe it fell out in the room or the truck," Liz spoke. "It's okay."
Maizie nodded her head. She didn't want to panic too much about it. There are more things at stake than a book filled with images of a little girl. "Okay…"
Liz grabbed Maizie's hands and squeezed them. Then she led her out the bathroom where they could hear Hellboy laughing while Abe looked at him.
"You think that's our problem? Transportation?"
Liz let Maizie's hand go as she walked up to the tvs that were playing different news stations. Abe turned from a laughing Hellboy and walked away. Maizie stood where she was, in between the bathroom and where Hellboy sat.
"And this girl, we have to find out what's wrong with her."
The voice of one of the tv announcer spoke, as an image of Liz popped up. and Liz watched it.
"She's cute…We should get her on the show."
Maizie rolled her eyes at it. The only thing that these kinds of people cared about were their looks. Not the fact that there were supernatural creatures hanging about.
"I hate it when people stare at me," Liz spoke as she turned to Hellboy.
Maizie decided to step away so she could give them some privacy. She followed where Abe went. Abe had sat down in one of the chairs in the room.
Abe looked up at her as she approached, "You okay?"
"Hmm?"
"Liz said you almost passed out and you slept in the truck," Abe clarified.
"Oh," Maizie said as she crossed her arms. "Yeah, I'm fine. The vision kind of wiped me out."
Abe knew she was referring to the one she had about a King being murdered. Not the one she had with Liz. But he didn't press it. It wasn't the right time. They stared at each other as he processed what he should say.
"If you're sure," Abe settled on saying. "Otherwise, you know I can check you out."
Maizie nodded with a little smile, "I know. Thanks Abe."
