Chapter 21: A New Generation? – Part 1

The Galar Region has officially made history!

Sir Karthaniel Harrison Davis and his serene Hatterene have gotten married and it's the first time a human and pokémon has done ever done that! It didn't take long for the other regions to receive word about it, including the newly discovered Paldea region. It had received so much of a buzz about it that a select few residents from that new region are on their way to visit to see this couple for themselves and how connected they are:

While they were all taking their time getting to Galar, there was one thing Hatterene had to get off her mind out of curiosity:

Could she truly bring in a new generation between her and Karthaniel?

Her beloved shiny hatterene mother, Elegance, hinted at it as way to grant salutations and good luck to the now famous couple, but of course, it left her half of a psychic-type mind completely flabbergasted about the idea and couldn't help but try to see if it can be done. In fact, on the morning after their first steamy night of sex as husband and wife, Hatterene sweetly told her husband that she had to pay a visit to the Pokémon Lab and meet up with Sonia and Wallace for 'personal reasons'. Being a humble and understanding gentleman, Karthaniel understood without asking any further questions and allowed her to go, so long as he gives him updates on anything that happens on her way there. She then gives him a loving embrace as a thank-you with a passionate kiss on his lips that lasted for thirty seconds before she went on her way right when her flying taxi arrived to take her to Wedgehurst.

Ten minutes of the soothing flight later…

"Seeing you and Karthaniel getting married is one thing, but this is just ridiculous!" Sonia quoted with humor as she was currently on her computer in full focus mode as she was trying to find the answer to Hatterene's curious question. "A human and a pokémon bringing in a new form of life? I can't see it happening, but I'm going through the formalities anyway because I'm actually curious about it myself. Wallace, what do you think?"

"Sounds scientifically impossible to me." Wallace admitted with no remorse, which made Hatterene nod once with understanding as she was standing on the opposite side of Sonia from behind her seated position. The humble retired trainer was slowly pacing back and forth near the entrance. He stopped after a full minute of it and faced the two ladies from that current location before he verbally continued: "It's safe to say that pokémon still leave so many more mysteries about themselves for us humans to solve, even after everything I went through in order to keep Hatterene and her mother safe."

"I hear ya! Did you tell Karthaniel about this?"

"I hated keeping such a curious observation a secret from him right after getting married." Hatterene replied with honesty with a repentant frown to prove it even further, which was oblivious to the young professor. "Telling him would trigger him to become as inquisitive as I am now. After everything he's been through, it's only fair to keep it confidential until we all know for sure or until it can actually be done, whichever happens after your search." Hearing that small speech made Sonia pause as she bowed her head with aggravation for ten seconds with a heavy sigh, massaging her forehead in the same manner after removing her glasses. "I hope it's not too much to ask for."

"I was gonna say it wasn't, but now…" She sighed once more after that statement and leaned back in chair casually, facing Wallace with Hatterene. "…I'm gonna need a true expert on this one and it's not my grandma."

"And it's not me, either." Wallace confessed as he approached the ladies right before three knocks were heard at the door. Sonia volunteered to answer it after getting her glasses back on. Once she opened the door, she was stunned.

"Maybe I can shed a little light on this interesting case." Greeted a man with seemingly unkempt hair that was in the duo shades of purplish grey with nearly the same colored eyes underneath a stunning pair of hexagon framed glasses. He wore an outfit that said he was a teacher, even with his signature brown sandals on his feet. "Greetings! I'm Jacq, an instructor at Uva Academy within the Paldea region and developer of the Pokédex App within that region as well."

"…huh?" Sonia asked as she took a few seconds of absorb everything that was said from this newcomer. Hatterene didn't even hesitate as she gently pushed the flabbergasted professor aside and kindly greeted him with a proper handshake. Wallace remained silent as he approached the three with a flummoxed look on his face as well.

"Welcome to Galar, Sir Jacq." Hatterene replied sweetly. "Since you say you developed a Pokédex App, I suppose you're also researching how majestic we pokémon are as a whole."

"Indeed! The new pokémon we have in Paldea are just as intriguing, but we'll get to that momentarily. You must be a hatterene. I've never seen one like you before. Have you been through a genetic mutation or the like somehow?"

"In a way, yes. I'm permanently infected by a harmless bacteria towards humans called Pokérus X2, courtesy of my shiny hatterene mother and the infected Ditto."

"Ah! I see! Are you the only one with this infection?"

"No. Another pokémon called Urshifu has it as well. We're like siblings."

"Aww, that's sweet! What moniker should I call you by, then?"

"You can just call me Hatterene. My mother's name is Elegance."

"A pleasure to meet you, Hatterene. Now, let's get down to brass handles." He paused as he allowed himself inside at last, still leaving Sir Wallace and Professor Sonia completely stunned and speechless. So much so that it seemed like it was just Jacq and Hatterene in the building. "I overheard your entire conversation after I just arrived here a few minutes ago. You say you're curious about the possibility of creating a new form of life between you and your human husband, correct?"

"Yes. Elegance hinted at the possibility as a way to grant good luck to our marriage, but that statement alone triggered my half-Psychic type self to dig deep into this theory. It was a sensation I couldn't ignore."

"Well! First of all, congratulations!" The two shook hands once more with a smile that was ear-to-ear for the Paldean instructor. "That's the primary reason why I'm here along with more guests that should be in this region shortly. Word about this unusual blessed event began to spread all around Paldea, thanks to one of our gym leaders, Iono. It was something a select few of us couldn't dare to ignore."

"Well, I thank you all for coming in advance!"

"Thank you! Now, let's see if you can actually bring in this new form of life between the two of you. Professor Sonia, mind if I use your computer?"

"Uh… yeah. Sure. Go right ahead." The stunned professor replied as she shook off the shock right when the instructor took that seat and got right to the research. "Now that I'm back to reality, did you bring any Paldean pokémon residents to show us?"

"I did, but Hatterene's case comes first. This is certainly something we must get out of our minds as quickly as possible. I do find it to be quite interesting. If you'd like to see them, I'm sure the others have arrived by now."

"Well, you two have fun with it. Wallace and I are gonna meet 'em." At that last word, Sonia and Wallace were on their way out the lab and towards that same Flying Taxi and made their way to the one location they know everyone would be gathered at as a meet-and-greet session:

The Training Dojo at the Isle of Armor

In the meantime, at that said dojo…

"It's just…amazing!" Cheered a young energetic female trainer with bright brown eyes, shining black hair in a ponytail with green highlights in her silky bangs, and rocked a casual outfit that consisted of a white tank top with blue jean shorts and green and white sneakers. She also had the skin complexion of a Latina. "You're married to a pokémon?!" Karthaniel nodded in response as he was standing before her in his usual smooth manner with his muscular tattooed arms crossed and his handsome smile of appreciation before her and a few more of the Paldean guests gathered around him. "I mean, I thought Iono was going crazy again when she went viral with the news all over the internet, but it's really real! Some of us just had to be here and see this for ourselves!"

"I appreciate the support from you all and it's a pleasure to meet you as well." Karthaniel replied calmly. "So, you're Nemona, a champion-ranked student from Uva Academy. I guess you're just as good with pokémon battles as I am for your young age."

"You're the pro, dude! You smoked me earlier! What were those pokémon you had? They were so cool!"

"Dragapult, Corviknight, Duraludon, Rapid Strike Urshifu, and Rillaboom. Your pokémon were very interesting as well. Another Pikachu clone, eh?"

"Is that what you call 'em?" Iono came in, dressed in her famous best during her viral videos, minus the magnimite attachments that are usually on her head as she approached the excited student on her right side. "Huh! Pawmot does kinda look like him. I can see why."

"Still, he put up quite a fight against my pokémon." Nemona admitted right before Sonia and Wallace finally arrived to see quite the crowd surrounding the new husband. "Oh, hola! Glad to finally meet ya! Professor Sonia and Wallace, right?"

"Damn, Karthaniel!" Sonia exclaimed. "You didn't waste a moment telling these people about us, huh?"

"This small group of guests just fascinated me instantly." Karthaniel confessed with no regrets as his two friends approached him with the retired trainer on his left and the young professor on his right. "I even got to battle Nemona here before you arrived. Her pokémon were impressive."

"Which is exactly why we're here. Can we see 'em?"

"Absolutely!" Nemona cheered as she stepped back a few steps, which prompted the other to clear the space a bit before she tossed up her six pokéballs with grace, revealing her team: "Professor Sonia, meet my elite six: Pawmot, Meowscarada, Skeledirge, Quaquaval, Tinkaton, and Cyclizar. All Paldean exclusives that you've never seen before until now! What do ya think?"

"…oh, wow." Sonia didn't waste a moment approaching the group with utmost fascination. Neither one of them cowered as they were also interested in meeting this new human. Seconds later, Wallace joined in this small meet-and-greet with the new pokémon and Karthaniel just had to watch this with interest while standing between Arven and Geeta with Nemona watching with extreme excitement at just a few feet ahead of them. "They're all so cool!"

"I'll say." Wallace agreed, becoming the most interested in Tinkaton as he approached her. "Is that hammer too heavy for you?" The eager Hammer Pokémon shook her head and slightly lifted her iconic weapon to prove it, making the humble retired trainer chuckle. "Huh! Interesting! You definitely gave klefki a run for its money here." A full minute after that was said, Geeta finally pointed out something was missing in her vibrant female voice:

"We have yet to meet your wife, Sir Davis. Where is she?"

"Oh, yeah!" Iono came in immediately after the Paldean Champion, getting into Karthaniel's face with glee as she did so. "Where is your serene Hatterene? I keep hearing rumors from my followers that she's the most beautiful hatterene anyone's ever seen! It's no wonder you've fallen in love with her so much that you decided to marry her!"

"She's at the Pokémon Laboratory in Wedgehurst with an important errand that she must attend to. She'll probably be here soon after she's done dealing with it." Karthaniel replied with a smile that said he wasn't disappointed as he faced the others.

"Mr. Jacq is already there!" Nemona declared as she turned her attention towards the others, leaving Sonia and Wallace wide eyed and speechless upon hearing it, even while they were still among the small group of the new Paldean pokémon. "He didn't say why he went there, though. Curious, I guess?"

"Mr. Jacq?"

"He's one of our teachers at Uva Academy." Tyme came in after a few peaceful paces towards the others. "He teaches Biology."

"Oh, does he now? Hmmm…" Hearing that last statement made the new Galar champion get into brainstorming mode as he closed his eyes to think really hard about why Hatterene had to be at the lab right after they got married. "What could she be with a biology teacher for? Sonia, weren't you over there just a few moments ago?"

"Yeah." Sonia replied nervously, which got all of the Paldean guests giving her their undivided attention, including the pokémon.

"Why is she there?"

"Uh…" That's when the young professor started shaking with apprehension. This made the others get worried for a moment before Wallace bravely stood between everyone and said with pride:

"It's about something Elegance said to her before you tied the knot."

"…" Karthaniel's one brown eye and one blue eye widened with shock for a moment before he looked towards the entrance to see the anthropomorphic shiny hatterene herself just coming in from a graceful walk. Only the human Paldeans were extremely in awe at her appearance. It was the perfect sneak peek at what Hatterene herself would look like to them. "Elegance, just in time. What did you say to Hatterene?"

"I granted her my blessings in my own words is all." Elegance replied with honesty. She then saw that look of dissatisfaction upon his face after saying that and didn't waste a moment: "Oh, I see. It's what I said exactly and I quote: 'I pray that you'll live a much better life than I did and shall you bring in a new generation unlike any other somehow, I'll still stand by you.' Is that what you were wondering about since she left this morning, Karthaniel-dear?"

"A… new generation?! You mean-"

"Yes. She must've gotten curious right after the wedding. Being a part of the psychic-type pokémon community by half, I'm not surprised to hear this development so early into your marriage. And even with the Pokérus X2 infection in her system, she still wants to know if it can be possible between a human and a pokémon for the first time in history."

"…" Karthaniel was speechless as he took in everything that was said from his shiny mother-in-law. As for the Paldean guests, Nemona had summoned all of her pokémon back inside their pokéballs before she, Arven, Poppy, and Iono all muttered with discomfort and in unison:

"Whhhhoah…"

Rika, another one of the Elite Four, stepped between them all with Geeta by her side with strong observation written in her red eyes.

"It all makes sense now." She said in her nearly deepened expert tone. "Especially after you explained your ENTIRE ordeal from start to finish to us prior to this and after Mr. Jacq, a biology teacher, decided to help out with the investigation on it."

"Indeed, Rika." Geeta agreed as she and the ground type expert approached the still flummoxed Galarian Champion, having the latter gently place a reassuring slender gloved hand upon his shoulder with smile that was peaceful to him. "Champion Davis, your wife is wondering if she can be a better mother than her very own. How about you?"

"…that thought never even crossed my mind, even with my genius status." Karthaniel confessed breathlessly, which made the others watch him with regal gleams of joy. "I'm wondering why she would try to find out by herself, though. She could've told me in better detail and we've would've been able to figure it all out together."

"It's like I said before:" Elegance came in. "Her wild psychic-type pokémon side couldn't be tamed here. It's something that not even I can predict and since that's the case, it all has to be figured out for herself first. When she and Sir Jacq finally finds out, we'll all definitely know for sure. Whatever the results may be, you shall accept them. You're not nervous about it, are you?"

"It'll be my first lie ever in my life if I said no to that question." Hearing this made Rika bow her head with closed eyes and her smile never ceased.

"Hm! Not surprised to hear that at all." She professionally stated. "Come to think of it, I have read in one of our history books back at the academy that the fact that marriage between man and pokémon isn't brand new after all as well as the fact that a new generation can be brought in between them." This made everyone, except Geeta, in the dojo gasp with astonishment, especially Karthaniel. Before Rika could continue, Jacq and Hatterene had just casually entered the dojo with a blue binder within the teacher's hands.

All of the Paldean guests were finally able to see the serene Hatterene herself for the first time and were in awe at her appearance for a brief moment before Rika became brave once more as she approached the two and silently let out both of her gloved hands towards the instructor, who nodded twice with permission as he handed over the binder. She then opened it and nodded twice as well with expectancy.

"Yep! I was just about to mention it: 'May 2018 – Tokyo, Japan: Young Japanese Korean ninja, Jaymes Thompson Totanuki, marries two mythical pokémon in their anthropomorphic forms: Meloetta and Diancie. They then create two dragon-like creatures as their offspring, despite the fact that mythical pokémon cannot make eggs. The two dragons take on the appearance of their mothers and have been named Crescendo and Dymond respectively. The fact that they are dragons is because of Jaymes becoming the one true host of a formerly extinct mega pokémon called the Dragobsidian. Throughout those first five years, they have become the most powerful family in the world and they still continue their heroic ways today.' By the way, Jaymes is the youngest part of a set of triplets that are the sons of a legendary Street Fighter warrior named Ibuki and her husband, Tommy."

"Wow…" Karthaniel gasped alone as he approached her and read the information she read and more, seeing various pictures of the famed family and the two myths themselves, seeing how different Jaymes' Diancie was much different compared to the one that was currently standing within the dojo among the others. "This Diancie has beautiful silky pink hair in the same style as our Diancie's crystals and she has a much more diverse sense of style in terms of her clothes. How could he have both of them within his heart so equally like this? It's incredible!"

"That's what I thought when I saw this." Jacq agreed as he looked at it from over his shoulder as well. "Turns out that before that, only Jaymes and Meloetta had to deal with a very dangerous Paleozoic insect-like mega pokémon called Genesect. He was a severe threat to the Unova region after the proper destruction of the Undersea Temple and its Reveal Glass. Eight shards made it into both Meloetta and Genesect, but caused different reactions to them. Meloetta was completely unaware of her infection until she was nearly shot down by Genesect's Techno Beam and transformed into that Aria Harmony Form that you see here. It's a permanent change, just like with Hatterene, Elegance, and both Diancies. Speaking of which, this Diamond Domain Queen came into the Totanukis' lime light after discovering the Dragobsidian's connection with Genesect's ancestor. Their compassion came to be after that Paleozoic Pokémon was defeated and Jaymes had to go through a few Arias."

"Arias?" Ryme finally spoke for the first time in the same tone as her much more docile sister, but with a small rapper's twang. "Like a few solo songs?"

"Not exactly. They were more like tests of Jaymes' ability to 'tame the dragon within', but some form of singing was involved by means of… fornication."

"Ooooh! Nice!"

"Their titles say it all: The Aria of Desire, The Aria of Thy Derriere, and The Aria of Sensual Touch." Rika added as she continued to read it. "Yeech! Safe to say that the second one is self-explanatory." Sonia became curious now as she read the information and was just shocked by it all, especially after she pointed out one thing:

"He passed them all and I can see why. That Aria Harmony Form of Meloetta does look stunning…" Then, she finally saw him. "…and Jaymes does as well. Holy shit, he looks delicious!"

"LEMME SEE!" Nemona and Iono said in unison by accident as they both made haste for the small crowd surrounding Rika. They swooned instantly upon seeing the young ninja's handsome smile, even with his one green eye and one brown eye, and his muscular physique that topped Karthaniel by a mile, especially with his iconic black and purple dragon tattoos looking fierce. Geeta and Rika were fascinated as well, but they shook their heads with humor after those sighs.

"That is an impressive body structure to have for a ninja." Geeta admitted professionally. "His older triplet brothers, Dyvo and Zari, don't look any different in terms of their body structures as well. It's impressive how he's the youngest of the three, but also the strongest, fastest, and tallest."

"He even aced his legendary mother's teachings before the triplets turned 16." Karthaniel added as he physically pointed it out. "Incredible! So, Rika; Geeta; Sir Jacq… all of you are basically saying that creating a new generation of human/pokémon hybrids is possible, correct?"

"According to this information, yes."

"Although Jaymes, Diancie, and Meloetta's children came out more like dragons than humans, it's still scientifically possible." Jacq added as he gently took the binder from Rika and closed it. "How they'll turn out is the only mystery. With all that in mind, what do you think of the idea? Will you physically try and see if it can be done?"

"…" Karthaniel never said a word as he had to think about it, even with everyone within the dojo watching him intently, patiently waiting for his response. After the first full minute of silence, Hatterene approached him with a heavenly smile before wrapping her slender arms around one of his muscular ones with all the compassion in her heart, already making a telepathic promise that whatever he says, she'll support it 100 percent. This made him look down at her for a moment before finally made a statement that nobody was expecting:

"Although I know how the process is done to create children, I'd like to hear from the proud father himself. See how he manages to have shared passion for two mates plus his dragon twins."

"Why did I have a feeling that he would say that?" Arven asked rhetorically with surprise towards nobody in particular.

"I see." Jacq nodded in agreement with the young son of Professor Turo before he approached the famed couple. "You need to hear from his perspective. Seeing all of this out of our makeshift history book isn't enough." The Biology teacher paused as the young Galar Champion nodded twice in response alongside Hatterene. "Well, am I glad that Rika decided to join us? You gained a connection with this family since your discovery of this information, haven't you?"

"And I've been keeping it to myself since then." Rika replied with pride. "The only way we can communicate with him is via video chat, but since we all want to see him for ourselves as well, we'll have to use a massive source. Do you know of one here in this region?"

"I do." Former Champion Leon finally came in from the very back of the dojo alongside Master Mustard. "Wyndon Stadium. I already got one of the jumbotrons connected to the internet and ready to go. All we have to do is get there and dial him up. I'm sure all of the ladies will be swooning once we see him."

"Well, not me and Geeta. We'll try to stay as professional as possible."

"Good luck to ya, then. Let's head out!"

With all of this information in mind, all of Karthaniel's friends and family plus the Paldean guests made their casual trip towards the famed stadium to meet and chat with the youngest Totanuki triplet and have many more questions answered for the sake of Hatterene and her formerly mentally disabled husband.
