~~~Chapter Four~~~
~~~Previous~~~

Inspectors take him away while he is still laughing. Yako looks up at Neuro. "Is your eye okay?"

He grabs her head and stretches her mouth. "I'm immortal."

"Even immortals can be injured, Neuro," I add before whispering to myself. "Especially when reborn into a human body, waiting for it to catch up with the immortal soul."

~~~3rd POV~~~
Of course, Neuro heard what she whispered. He soon realised she was immortal, but her body was not. Though he still hasn't figured out what she is just yet. Not enough clues for him to figure that out. Not long before he does.
This raises his interest in Yuuki even more. His heart skips about when thinking about Yuuki before he snaps out of it and walks away.
~~~Yuuki's POV~~~

Oops, I said too much. Hopefully, nobody heard me. Though I do wish my body would hurry and catch up. I have the feeling a couple more days/weeks it will, but it is a hassle to wait.

Neuro turns to look at us as he stops. "The low-calorie mystery only increased my appetite. Come, it's time to hunt for more mysteries."

Yako and I share a smile before running after him. "Hey, wait!"

~~~Present~~~
~~~3rd POV~~~

Sasazuka and Ishigaki exit the car and gaze up at an abandoned house. "Senpai, this house is pretty creepy…" Ishigaki turns his head to look at him. "Did something happen here?"

"It happened half a year ago. During a rainy spell in spring, while the cherry blossoms were falling, the case came to light. Architect Katsuragi Seiichi was buried in his work late into the night. That night, he did not leave his study. His wife, Haruka, and his daughters, Yako and Yuuki, not the least suspicious of his absence at breakfast, left for work and school, respectively.

"10:00 AM, the housekeeper called to Seiichi, who had still not left his study but didn't hear a sound. Further finding the door locked from the inside, the suspicious housekeeper naturally went on the veranda to take a look inside. And the first thing her eyes came across was a window covered in blood. Peering into the window, she found a headless corpse lying there. That was the dead body of Katsuragi Seiichi.

"After the incident was reported, Police Sergeant Takeda Keitarou, who happened to be near the scene, smashed the windowpane by himself and confirmed the victim's death there, it appears. Seiichi's head had been cut off with a small chainsaw, and glass tubes had been stuck in his torso. It looked as if blood had been extracted through them and used to paint every corner of the room. Both the door and window had been locked; the room was said to be completely unenterable. Yet despite the chainsaw and other evidence, there were no breaks in the case, and finally, it was ruled a suicide."

"But isn't that murder, no matter how you look at it?" Ishigaki queries.

"Yeah." Sasazuka agrees.

"So then…?" Ishigaki questions.

Sasazuka looks up. "That was the ruling that the brass decided on. There wasn't anything we could do."

"That's…Ah!" Ishigaki looks up. "What about Seargent Takeda?"

"He left an early retirement notice and just disappeared," Sasazuka states.

"Wha?!" Ishigaki exclaims in surprise.

~~~Yuuki's POV~~~
~~~Queen Mary's Hotel~~~

I change into my silver and black dress in the same design as my other ones and pick up my bag with everything still inside. We are inside the Queen Mary's Hotel.

I see Yako looking around, but I gaze out the large glass window. I feel something will happen outside, something I shouldn't miss.

Neuro grabs Yako's head, snapping her out of her thoughts. "Owowowow...Neuro!"

"For a servant, you sure enjoy standing around like one of the privileged class. We came here because I sensed a mystery, however..." Neuro trails off as he gazes out the window.

One of the buildings outside blows up. "W-what? What just happened?" Yako queries in disbelief.

"Another bombing," I comment.

Neuro leans forward, a smirk on his face. "Just as I thought...there's our explosive mystery now."

We leave the building and head down to the crime scene. We stand behind the yellow tape. "Sasazuka-san!" Yako calls out when she sees him.

Ishigaki is the first to turn around. "You three again?"

"Sometimes we pass through the area." Neuro offers, causing Yako to laugh awkwardly.

"It's dangerous here. Stay back." Sasazuka orders.

We move out of the way. "We got kicked to the curb, huh?" Yako points out.

We hear a conversation behind us between two inspectors.

"So, this was Histerrier's doing..."

"Yeah, that calling card was found on the ground."

"Histerrier?" Yako questions.

"A name this bomber is using by the looks of it." I point out thoughtfully.

"Shall we take a look?" Neuro answers before kneeling on the ground. His face changes into his demon one as an eyeball lands on his hand. The eyeball turns around to look at Neuro, whose eyes begin to glow.

~~~3rd POV~~~
Sasazuka and Ishigaki sit in the room with other inspectors, discussing the bombings. "In the past three months, there have been four incidents. And at each of the bombings, this aluminium calling card has been dropped. If you'll refer to the copies in front of you…"
Ishigaki looks down at the paper in his hand. "'I am bommer, so I am cute.'" The same eyeball that Neuro released appears on Ishigaki's head.
"I assume you all know what this means." The man in the front states.
Ishigaki raises his hand. "I do, Commissioner Usui!"
Usui lets out a sigh as he pushes his glasses up. "Well, let's hear it."
Ishigaki stands up. "It says: I am bomber! I am cute! I am Histerrier!"
"Yes, yes, well done…for it being middle school-level English." Usui praises sarcastically.
Ishigaki sits down and leans closer to Sasazuka. "God, I hate him…"
"So, it would seem that our culprit is ALSO middle school level. He's misspelt 'bomber.' As it is, it's only a name. This is the REAL spelling: B-O-M-B-E-R. Unable to retain even the lowest level of English he's supposed to have learned…meaning, I'm thinking that our culprit is nothing but a hikikomori middle-schooler." Usui comments.
"Excuse me…" Sasazuka calls out.
"Just what is it, Sasazuka?" Usui asks.
"Don't you think that the culprit might possibly be spelling it wrong on purpose?" Sasazuka queries.
"Excuse me?" Usui questions.
"We have a calling card-dropping culprit here. Just thought it might be possible that he's playing a little detective game with us…" Sasazuka trails off.
Usui points at Sasazuka. "Well, then, do YOU have a different criminal profile you'd like to contribute?"
"Not really," Sasazuka states.
"Then shut it." Usui orders. "All you have to do is follow my orders!"
Sasazuka lowers his hands as Ishigaki leans toward him. "Hey, I told you he's a brown noser. Makes me wonder if he really is your contemporary…"
"You! Quit your whispering!" Usui scolds, causing Ishigaki to jump slightly.
"Sorry!" Ishigaki says as he sits back properly in his chair.
"The target of the attack this time was a fast-food joint. You are to keep a close eye on the patrons there, especially on the middle and high school students."
Ishigaki lets out a sigh as he lowers his head. "What…that's like finding a needle in a haystack…"
"If you're all REAL police officers, then you'll do whatever it takes to catch this bomber. Am I clear?!"
"Yes, sir!" The inspectors call out.
"Oh, and Sasazuka? It seems that the high school girl detective has turned up again. Why is it that she's always showing up at our crime scenes?" Usui demands.
Sasazuka closes his eyes. "Damned if I know. Maybe she's got an acute sense of smell."
"'Acute sense of smell?' What, like some kind of superpower or something?" Usui questions.
"Who knows," Sasazuka states.
Usui scoffs and pushes up the bottom of his glasses. "Listen up! WE will be the ones to solve this case! I will NOT tolerate another bombing! Got it?!"
Just then, there is another bombing outside the window, causing all the inspectors to look.
~~~Yuuki's POV~~~

It isn't long before Neuro gets all the information we need about the criminal behind the explosions.

Another explosion happens not that far away from us. We get to the scene before the police do. "Ahh, how are you already here?" Ishigaki exclaims when he sees us.

Yako turns to look at them. "Ishigaki-san, Sasazuka-san."

"Hello." I greet softly.

"Hey there. The title was 'Okishima Shonosuke Memorial Statue', right?" Neuro queries.

"Yeah, what about it?" Ishigaki replies.

"I saw the card. 'Bomber' was misspelt and ended up as a name." Neuro states as he writes down in his notebook.

"Where did you see it?" Sasazuka questions, suspicious.

"It was all thanks to Sensei's and Yuuki's superpowers." Neuro offers nonchalantly.

"Their 'superpower'?" Sasazuka queries.

"H-he's just kidding!" Yako laughs awkwardly.

I just let out a soft chuckle. "Instinct."

Neuro looks up from his notebook and looks at Sasazuka and Ishigaki. "Sensei says that this is a challenge from the culprit. If you look at all the names of the bombing locations up until this one, you'll see that they're all named after someone."

"There are tons of buildings that are named after people, though." Ishigaki points out.

"By the way! If you alphabetise the first characters of the bomb sites, you get u.a.w.w.o. If you flip that...do you notice anything?" Neuro queries.

"If you add 'b', then you get 'bommer'." Sasazuka acknowledges.

Neuro lowers his notebook. "That's correct. We get the culprit's name. Isn't that right, Sensei?"

"R-right...!" Yako agrees hesitantly.

"And a hint towards the next place to be bombed." I point out.

"Then the next place to be bombed would start with a 'b'." Ishigaki offers.

"No. it's 'q'." Sasazuka corrects Ishigaki.

"Q? A place around here that starts with 'q'..." Ishigaki trails off.

Sasazuka's eyes widen as he looks at the building we were in earlier. Yako lets out a gasp at the same time. "Queen Mary's Hotel!"

~~~3rd POV~~~
Inside an apartment, the water in the sink is running, causing the bowl to tip to the side. The water is turned off as the news is heard. "At just 10 o'clock this morning, another explosion incident occurred—the event is thought to be the work of the serial bomber, Histerrier."
A hand reaches out to grab a mobile phone, and the figure, who turns out to be a female wearing a green apron with a dog face on the side, types away on the phone as the news continues.
"While we do not have all the details yet, for the time being, we will continue up-to-the-minute reports…"
The female smirks with her tongue sticking out, drooling at the end of her tongue and the side and bottom of her mouth.
Inside the hotel, in a bathroom, a countdown begins at 30:00 and goes down to 29:56.
At the same time, Sasazuka and Ishigaki enter the same hotel. "If a bomb went off here, it would be a catastrophe!" Ishigaki comments.
"I've discussed it with the higher-ups, and they said we can't spare personnel without positive proof." Sasazuka turns his head to look at Ishigaki. "I'll start searching from the top, and you start from the bottom."
"Understood!" Ishigaki agrees before they split up.
~~~Yuuki's POV~~~

~~~Inside Queen Mary's Hotel~~~
We are quick to head over to the hotel. We take the elevator to the 65th floor. Godai is with us as Neuro called him over. "Just what the hell are you tryin' to pull? Calling me out to a place like this!"
"There's a bomb in this building," Neuro states.
"What?! So, you brought me here to look for a bomb!?" Godai demands.
"It's already been found." Neuro takes us to the women's toilets, towards the last stall.
Godai opens the panel and climbs up. "It's really up here!"
'Then we'd better let Sasazuka-san know right away!" Yako points out.
"We don't have the time for that," Neuro states.
"Why not?" Godai demands, looking down at Neuro.
"That bomb has a time limit. It will explode in another 3 minutes." Neuro comments.
"3 MINUTES?" Yako exclaims, panicked, her eyes wide.
"Shouldn't you have done something when you found it in the first place?!" Godai yells angrily.
"What are we gonna do, Neuro!?" Yako asks, panicked.
I let out a sigh. "Yako, calm down first." I scold.
Neuro opens one of his eyes. "You guys handle it. Or I could just crush that tiny little brain of yours right here, right now."
"Hey! What we gonna do here? We're down to 2 minutes!" Godai calls down.
"Well, what are you going to do?" Neuro queries as he holds up a clawed finger.
"I'll disarm it," Yako states, trying to sound confident but failing.
She climbs up through the gap. Godai is up there with her. "Come on, there's less than a minute left! Hurry and do it!"
"Hey, with bombs...you're supposed to cut the red or the blue one, right?" Yako asks, sweating.
"Are you that stupid?! You watch too much TV!" Godai scolds.
"Then you do it!" Yako shouts as she throws him the plyers.
"Me? F-fine..." Godai agrees hesitantly.
"No! I'll do it!" Yako says as she takes the plyers back.
"Which is it?!" Godai demands.
"If someone's gotta do it, I at least wanna believe in myself!" Yako admits, sweating heavily.
"So, you don't trust me, huh? Give it!" Godai demands as he grabs the plyers.
"No!" Yako denies.
"Just give it to me!" Godai demands.
"I said no!" Yako shouts.
"You..." Godai curses before the plyers move to the side and cut all the wires. I hear a gasp before a sigh of relief. "No way... " Yako trails off.
"We're alive..." Godai says in disbelief.
Neuro and I pop our heads through. "That was fun," Neuro says with a blank look.
"No, it wasn't." I scold.
We move out of the way, allowing Yako and Godai to get down. "Alright, on to the next phase. When the bomb doesn't go off, the bomber will definitely come to investigate the reason why. And when that happens, I'll catch them." Neuro continues.
We hide in the third stall. Yako and Godai lean against the stall, Yako's legs on the toilet, while Godai has one leg on the toilet and the other against the opposite wall. Neuro is, of course, sitting on the toilet, one leg crossed and his knee up. I was about to stand next to Yako when Neuro gently pulled my arms, causing me to land in his lap. I blink a few times before getting comfortable, placing my head against his shoulder.
"More importantly, why do all four of us have to be crammed in here?!" Godai questions.
"I'm sweating like a pig...!" Yako complains.
Neuro places a finger in front of his lips. "Shh. He's here."
I hear bare feet on the tiled floor, along with heavy panting. The panel is opened, and a person goes inside. "If we're going to catch him, now's the time to do it." Godai points out.
"Not yet. The mystery isn't ripe enough yet." Neuro replies, eyes glowing.
It is not long before the footsteps leave the bathroom. Yako opens the stall door and pokes her head out along with Godai. "Well, now what, Neuro? He left."
I carefully get off Neuro's lap. Neuro opens the stall door wide, hitting Yako and Godai's heads against the stall with his elbow. "He most likely reset the bomb. Servant Number Two! You stay behind and disarm the bomb if needed."
"Why only me!?" Godai demands.
"Servant Number One! Yuuki! You come with me. We have a big mystery waiting for us." Neuro orders.
"O-okay.../ Okay." Yako and I agreed, though Yako was hesitant to do so.
I look back at Godai. "I'll text you when it is sorted."
We head over to the elevator. It was about to close, but Neuro kept it open with his hand. He scares the people inside with his appearance, however. "Can I help you...?"
"Sorry for the sudden intrusion, but you see, we have reason to believe that the serial bomber, Histerrier, is on this elevator...So says the schoolgirl detective Katsuragi Yako Sensei."
"Schoolgirl detective?" The women inside copy.
"I know about her!" One states.
"There's nothing we can do in the elevator, so could you all please come to the lobby?" Neuro asks.
"Sorry for all this." Yako apologies.
We head to the lobby, the four women with us. We meet Sasazuka and Ishigaki there, in front of the elevators. "What is the meaning of this, you three?" Ishigaki questions.
"Don't you want answers? About the bombs?" I query.
"It seems Sensei is about to name the bomber from this group!" Neuro states.
"What?" The two of them exclaim, surprised.
"The usual, Sensei, if you please," Neuro states as his eyes glow.
"The criminal is...YOU!" She points at the lady with a young child.
"Why me...?" She asks.
"Don't play dumb. I saw you reset the bomb in the 65th-floor women's restroom." Neuro says as he places a hand on our shoulders.
"Bathroom?" The woman repeats.
"Oh! Uh, Yuuki-nee and I saw it, right Yuuki-nee?" Yako comments.
"Yeah, it was her." I agree.
"Wait, what about the bomb?" Sasazuka queries urgently.
"We've defused it," I say with a sigh.
The lady points at Yako and me. "Is there proof that these people saw me?"
"Rest assured, that's not the only proof we have. We found your saliva on the bathroom floor. You must have been pretty excited." Neuro points out, a smirk heard in his voice.
"Ishigaki, go collect a sample quickly." Sasazuka orders.
"Yes, sir." Ishigaki agrees as he heads off.
She lets out a slight scoff. "I suppose it's true...I wonder if I've given away my true identity...? But should I be disappointed, or should I be glad? I should be thrilled, of course, right? It's been four years since I got married, and this is my second kid...I'm really very happy...But you know, there's just one problem."
She lifts her baby in the air. "Up we go, up we go!" She lowers the baby back into her arms. Her face has changed to look like a dog, with dog ears on top of her head. "I CAN'T BE MYSELF! I can't show my true self to my family!" Her baby is above her head in the air. 'But I want to! I want to show the whole world! I get so riled up; I JUST CAN'T HELP MYSELF!"
The baby starts crying. She lowers her baby, and her face is back to normal. "It's okay, it's okay, that's my boy...if I were to reveal my identity to my family, our lives would fall apart...I think everyone's probably like that. For your own sake, and the same of those around you, you learn to suppress your true self..."
"So, you started bombing all those places to fulfil your own destructive desires?!" Yako questions, upset.
The lady's face is back to look like a dog. "What the hell else could it be?! Humans've gotta live as they, please! I bet you've got tons of things you wanna do! Don't hide it! Don't compromise it!" The baby starts crying, so her face goes back to normal. "Oh, it's okay, it's okay..."
"So, for that, you made victims out of innocent people? That's unforgivable!" Yako scolds.
Her face changes back into that of a dog. "Don't you think it'd beautiful to blow up the tallest building in Japan? That's what everyone wants anyway. Blowing up this building will blow everyone's minds!" The baby starts crying, but she doesn't change her appearance. "Shut your mouth and LISTEN!"
She faces us again, and her face turns back to normal. "Come on, guys, wake up and smell the truth! Humans are just another breed of dog!" The baby starts crying again, and her face changes into a dog. "I said, SHUT UP!"
"Hey, are you supposed to make that face at your baby?" Sasazuka states, pointing at her.
"Don't shout at your baby." I scold her with a glare, causing her to flinch slightly.
"Oh no! I'm so sorry..." She rubs her cheeks against the baby, calming him down.
"I don't really understand...But how about you come quietly to the police station with us?" Sasazuka asks sternly.
"Not just yet. You didn't think it's all over now, do you? I've been playing for time-there's another bomb in this building." Her face is back to being a dog.
"What, there's another one?" Sasazuka exclaims, surprised.
"Neuro, didn't you find the second bomb?" Yako queries.
"Sensei says she already knows the location of the second bomb." Neuro comments, ignoring Yako.
"What?" The woman demands.
"There was a clue in the elevator we were just in. After resetting the first bomb, you could have just left the hotel. But you didn't. Most likely, you tried to go and check up on the other bomb, didn't you?" Neuro points out.
"Ah!' The girl wearing the uniform gasps.
Neuro turns his head to look at her. "That's right, you remember, don't you? The number of the button she pressed."
"It was the 70th floor." The girl says after a few seconds.
"The observation garden, am I right?" Neuro says as he holds out his arm.
"Ishigaki, leave the restroom for later. Get everyone out of the building. It's urgent." Sasazuka orders over his phone.
The five of us head up the elevator to the observation garden. "Where is the bomb hidden...?" Sasazuka asks as he looks in front of him.
"You can probably find it pretty easily if you look...then all you have to do is stop the clock and save the day. But I wonder if you'll make it in time...There's probably less than 5 minutes before it goes off...!" She states her face is still that of a dog.
"What?" Sasazuka demands.
"Neuro!" Yako calls out, panicked.
He looks at Yako. "YOU find it. You were scoping the place before."
She looks around before gazing at one of the suspended flower baskets. She points at the middle one. "I got it! It's up there in the suspended flower basket!"
I nod my head. "To the left of the basket."
"Aww...you found it...But it's not like you'll make it in time...by the time you lower that thing, it'll explode!" She states as Sasazuka runs towards the basket.
"Neuro, can't you do something?!" Yako demands.
"Maybe- how about this? One of the 777 Tools of the Demon World, Evil Drop. If we put these drops in your eye, then we can use the beans from your eyes to cause a-"
"What good would that do?!" Yako denies it, forming her arms as a cross before her.
"Neuro! Yako! Now isn't the time for that." I scold.
"Now, explode! Explode and free the hearts of everyone!" She lets out a howl.
Yako holds onto Neuro's jacket. "Neuro!"
A gunshot is heard. Sasazuka had made it over near the basket and shot the clock before it went off. "Looks like I hit the bull's eye."
"Sasazuka-san!" Yako exclaims.
"What have you done!?" She shouts. "It was the perfect chance for everyone to be who they really are! Don't you want to live as your REAL self?! To live free, like dogs!"
"Dogs live freely? Can't say I agree..." Sasazuka admits.
She growls but stops when Neuro puts his hand on her head. "As far as I know, seems that dogs are beasts which become submissive when they meet a creature stronger than themselves. Shall we test this theory? Sit! Itadakimasu!"
She lets out a whine and falls to her knees. "Seems that dogs really are submissive after all. Someone bring me a collar."
"Sorry, all I've got are handcuffs," Sasazuka says sarcastically as he walks off, handcuffs in his hand.
I let out a chuckle. "Those will have to do."
With that said, Ishigaki and Sasazuka take her away in the police car. "Well, it's all over, but it wasn't as filling as I had hoped."
"Yeah, but I kinda get the feeling we're forgetting something..." Yako trails off.
I shrug my shoulders. "You will remember if it's important."
Yako nods in agreement, causing me to chuckle as I get out my phone and text Godai to tell him everything is sorted and he can leave. As we walk away, I notice Godai leaving the building, sweating heavily.
