~~~Chapter Eighteen~~~
~~~Previous~~~
We get rid of the people on bikes, but as the sun sets and we continue to follow the truck, people on motorbikes and bikes follow us, the person on the back holding a metal object. The person in front of us is swinging it near the front window.
"These guys are incredibly annoying... We can't chase Higuchi anymore." Neuro curses.
"What should we do?" Yako questions.
"I want to destroy him here and now, but..." Neuro looks at the bridge, surprised.
When we get near the bridge, Yako lets out a gasp. "No way! There's no bridge!"
Neuro hits the car's brakes, stopping at the beginning of the bridge. We go over, not stopping in time, making Yako scream.
~~~3rd POV~~~
The car went over, exploding, causing a large cloud of smoke to rise. Higuchi stands at the edge and looks down. "I don't know about the Katsuragi's, but Neuro should be alive. Assist me in delivering the final blow to him." Higuchi orders.
The control men form a ladder, and some climb down to make it to the bottom. "In the valley, where there's nowhere else to go, finish him off…I win, Neuro. He smirks and lets out a low chuckle.

~~~Present~~~
~~~Yuuki's POV~~~
Luckily, we jump out of the car before it hits the ground and explodes. Neuro is the first to get up with me, following from next to him. I watch briefly as Yako is high in the air and lands safely on the bridge behind Higuchi. When I look in front of me again, Neuro and I are surrounded by controlled people.
~~~At the Police Station~~~
~~~3rd POV~~~
Sasazuka is sitting inside an interrogation room. "I want to ask you one thing. Why do you think Haruka did something like that?"
The female in front of him is the same one who killed the original Haruka and was dismissed by HAL. "I don't know. He's not a person who likes to talk about himself."
"Oh." Sasazuka acknowledges.
"I heard that he worked in a special facility in a university hospital. I only know that much," She admits.
"Special facility…" Sasazuka repeats.
~~~Yuuki's POV~~~
"Neuro! Yuuki-nee!" I hear Yako shout down at us.
"Stay up there, Yako!" I shout back, not taking my gaze off the men before us.
Due to my hearing, I can hear Yako and Higuchi speaking. "After killing him, the crime-only world will be complete. Just thinking about it gets me excited."
"Higuchi-san, what are you talking about?" Yako demands as he sits down.
"A world filled only with crime. That is my own dream." His eye glows. "HAL made me realise that."
One man lunges at Neuro with an axe. Neuro is quick to kick him back into the water with a thud. A man appears behind me, and my eyes flash before he is sent back, hitting the rocks behind us. Oops…he is alive still, just knocked out.
"Stop those people!" Yako shouts. "You should know how to stop them!"
"I won't do that." Higuchi denies. "Isn't that already clear?"
"I don't understand your goal! What will you get from all of this"? Yako questions, confused.
"Goal? Motive? The motive behind criminal acts is really quite simple." He states.
"Simple?" Yako repeats. "People will die! If people die from Higuchi-san's virus, it's the same thing as killing them with your own hands!"
I see him slightly scratch his face. "I've killed someone before. When I was a kid." Yako's eyes widen as he stands up. "Katsuragi, have you ever played online games."
"Online games?! Yako queries.
"They're quite popular in this world. Those who get addicted get totally caught up in it, just like this electronic drug. And because of that, there are people who want to live in that world more than this one. My parents were like that. They were total online game addicts in the world of online games. They thought if they played more, they would have a better chance of becoming the hero. That's why my parents spent a whole year just staring at the computer. So, I had to go to work myself."
"Work?" Yako questions.
Higuchi places his hand behind his head. "Gold farming. Then, my parents used the money to get better equipment. That was the only thing I could do after school. There was no communication between us. Even if there was, it was only something like, 'Let's hunt the one-eyed cyclops.' You can laugh at that, right? Killing yourself slowly in that world. So, then I thought to myself: I should destroy this world."
"Destroy the world?" Yako repeats.
"During classes in school, I would make computer viruses. Hacking into the game server, destroying all of the data accumulated throughout the past ten years. That was the first time I tried hacking." He admits. "I was so excited when I went home because that world would be destroyed. Not just as another party member but as a member of a family! But those two hung themselves. The message they left was also brief. To both of them, the world here was never a reality to them. Even though they committed suicide in the real world, I was the one who killed my parents. It was murder…I was such a great murderer."
Another man lunges at me, and I kick him back, causing him to land in the water. They kept on coming one after the other, and I continued to kick them back. Neuro was going through the same thing.
The same man who attacked Neuro gets up and lunges at Neuro. Neuro holds him back when suddenly he backs off and starts screaming. The rest of the people around us have the same reaction.
Looking up, I see Higuchi scratching his chest and the sides of his face. "I just wanted attention. I don't care if it's grades or electricity or anything useless like that. I only wanted to talk in real life! Is that a bad thing? Is it a crime to think that way? Then every human on earth is a damn criminal!" He has scratches on his cheeks. "That's why I want to change the world. HAL gave me the power. The power to make everyone a criminal. Give me more sound, Sphinx! The sound to power up these junkies! To change the world, a world where we, the criminals, can walk freely. Crush those like Neuro who try to stop us!"
They lunge at us, causing the water around us to rise above us before crashing back down. I hear Higuchi laughing. "Good job, keep at it. Destroy more!"
With my eyes closed, I sense Yako lunge at Higuchi. "That's the remote that controls the sound, right?" She runs towards him again but is forced to stop when he holds out a knife.
Higuchi lifts it. "Yeah, as long as I have this, those junkies down there will release every possible ounce of strength they have. Their bones will still break, and their flesh will still rip by attacking Neuro, but they won't stop due to pain or shock."
Neuro sends most of them flying away from us. I release a wave of my magic to push them back, but they continue to get up. More and more lunge at us and hold us down.
"As long as the sound continues, the attacks won't stop. Until nothing is left, until not one cell of Neuro is left!" I hear Higuchi say.
"Stop!" Yako shouts.
"It isn't fair to only call people that have done bad deeds criminals. If everyone equally commits crime, there won't be a need for the noun 'criminal.'" He comments.
"Stop it!" Yako shouts once more. "Higuchi-san, you don't really want to do this."
"Don't talk as if you know everything." Higuchi starts, but Yako cuts him off. "Isn't that right? You don't really want to do something like this! Because you're NOT being controlled!"
I watch as Higuchi's eyes widen, giving Yako a chance to rush forward. She turns the sound off as they fall to the floor, the knife falling from his hand.
The sound fully stops, and the people get weaker. "When the sound stopped, these people became weaker. But it's too late. I've already awakened the tool to destroy you, people."
"Don't worry, Neuro. They won't die. It will be too much work for me if they do." I offer softly.
A green light surrounds Neuro. I quickly use death magic to surround all the controlled people to keep them safe. The green light explodes, sending the people off us and into the water. Neuro is in his true form, with his arms turned into wings.
He hovers in the air, a ball of red energy rotating around him. I hover next to him with my wings. A huge device appears out of the water. "It's good to call backup. The Devil's Soul shall destroy all of you humans! 777 Tools of Demon World, Evil Aqua!" The top opens, sending a large green blast towards the water, where the people lay. They are thrown in the air and far away from us.
Neuro's arms return to normal, and he lands on the ground inside a crater. I hover towards the ground and land on my feet in the same crater. "So, the Weapons of Hell is only this strong on the surface...What's left is to destroy the Sphinx."
I close my eyes once more, sensing Yako. "How did you know? That I wasn't hooked on the Electronic Drug."
Yako lifts her head to look at him. "Because it's different. People who are affected by the Electronic Drug only commit crimes because they want to destroy their guilt." Yako lifts herself. "But Higuchi-san's guilt is still around. The guilt that 'I killed my parents.' If you were affected by the Electronic Drug, you wouldn't reveal emotions like that."
A soft smile appears on my face before I open my eyes. I looked around, and there was no water left, only a few puddles behind. Neuro wraps his hand around my waist, and he jumps in the air, landing on the bridge. "Neuro, Yuuki-nee," Yako calls out happily when she sees us.
He removes his hand from around my waist and heads towards the Sphinx. "Neuro, Yuuki-nee, are you okay?"
Neuro doesn't answer. "I'm fine, Yako." I offer.
Higuchi smiles before sitting up. "I might not have been completely under the influence...But I'm at least 50% controlled by HAL. If I relied on my own determination, I wouldn't be able to get this far. It doesn't matter. I lose."
I watch as Neuro places his hand through the Sphinx, destroying it with a mini-explosion.
"I'm glad that you told me about your real feelings." Yako stands up. "It hurts more when you keep your painful experiences to yourself. What happened to your parents wasn't murder. It was just an unpredictable tragedy. Higuchi-san is not a criminal." Yako smiles as the sun begins to rise.
"Katsuragi," Higuchi says in surprise before smiling back.
"Yeah, it was their choice," I add with a soft smile.
Neuro appears at my side. "Hacking..."
This gains Yako's attention. "Is that a crime?!"
I let out a soft chuckle. "Only a small one."
"You three make a good team. Maybe you three can destroy HAL from the inside. But be careful. If something seems complicated, in the end, it's just something that's really simple. Look at me, you'll understand." Higuchi lifts his hand as he walks away.
I hear a crack and look to see a crack on Neuro's face. Not good...He is losing more of his powers.
~~~3rd POV~~~
The warship is shown, and one of the pilots turns his head, and his eyes glow red, showing he is under the control of HAL.
Elsewhere, HAL hacked into another computer. "Good morning, Prime Minister. I am HAL, Denjin HAL."
The Prime Minister abruptly stands. "What is this?"
"Regarding the incoming nuclear warship, Oswald…from this point on, the ship will proceed to dock at Tokyo Bay," HAL comments.
"What shit are you talking about?" The Prime Minister demands.
The man next to him looks in the other direction. "Prime minister!"
He looks out the window to see planes making a sign. "This mark is…"
"I'm afraid those are Oswald's fighter planes." The man next to him states, hand shaking as he holds onto the side of his glasses.
"Do you believe me now?" HAL queries as the Prime minister turns back to look at the computer. "I hope you can accept my request."
"If I don't, what will happen?" He questions.
A smirk appears on HAL'S face as he lets out a low chuckle. "If that's the case, the nuclear warship will be used for the worst purpose imaginable." The Prime Minister's eyes widen as he pales. "Also, do not call for help. I'll be waiting for your good news."
~~~Yuuki's POV~~~
~~~Bottom of the Mountains~~~
"We're finally out of the mountains." Yako cheers. "What happens now? We should call Godai-san."
I shake my head. "We need to find a building."
Neuro grabs a hold of Yako's head and lifts her off the ground. He dangles Yako as he walks the other way. "We must find a computer. Solving the mystery is our top priority. Anything else shouldn't be mentioned."
"Neuro...You're weaker than before...should that not be mentioned either?" He stops and twists her neck. "Ow, ow, ow!"
Neuro lets Yako go and walks into a building. He smashes a door and walks inside. There is a computer, which he immediately goes towards and starts typing away. "This is usable. If we don't penetrate it in time, I'll be happy even if the mystery is simply raw." He takes off his glove and once again puts his hands on the screen that is sucked inside.
"Yo, Neuro. You're really close. This time, the Sphinx is located on the nuclear warship, Oswald." Yako lets out a gasp. "The supercomputer is located in the centre of it."
"The real world and the virtual world. You want to see which I can protect?" Neuro questions.
"Exactly. But it's not fully installed yet. Even so, I'll make sure you don't get anywhere close to it. Higuchi seems to have been able to buy me quite some time." HAL comments.
"Not just that, I can slowly see it behind the sphinx. The mystery has nothing to do with the program. The biggest key to protecting your main body." Neuro acknowledges.
"Exactly, the password and I are one," HAL states.
"Password?" Yako questions.
"I'm the only one that knows the answer. If the wrong password is entered, the worse penalty will take effect. Even if you're not able to penetrate it, it will." HAL adds.
"How could this happen?" Yako queries worried.
Blood spurts from Neuro's side. It covers the bottom part of the computer and most of the keyboard. Neuro slides down and lands on the ground on his side, a pool of blood around his head and shoulders. "Neuro!" Yako and I shout.
I drop to my knees next to him. I sit down and place his head on my lap. I run my hand through his hair, my hand glowing slightly green. I try to heal Neuro's wounds.
"Neuro! Get a hold of yourself, Neuro! Neuro, Neuro!" Yako shouts.
"It seems that I've depleted my powers. I'm too weak to hold myself together...I'll regain my powers if I'm able to eat this big mystery." Neuro mutters.
HAL's image appears on the computer screen. "It seems like this is the end, Neuro. You don't have any chance of winning."
"At least give us a hint to the password!" Yako persuades urgently.
"Katsuragi Yako, you're just a doll unit the end. You wouldn't understand even if I explained. The password is my goal. Normal people won't be able to get it. Goodbye, Neuro. You were a really powerful opponent." He disappears, and the screen goes white.
"Humans...these creatures..." Neuro sits up, and I help him lean against the desk. "The more important the password, the more emotions or significance it carries."
"Neuro," I mutter softly.
"But I, a demon, will never be able to understand how humans think," Neuro admits.
"Then..." Yako trials off.
Neuro looks at Yako. "You think I let you follow me for no reason?" He points at Yako. "Yako, you'll crack the password. Using the experience you've gained so far."
"Me?" Yako questions, surprised.
"Like this now...I won't be able to move for a day. Find it before tomorrow. The precious key to unlock Denjin-HAL." Neuro orders.
"That's impossible!" Yako denies.
"Do not disappoint me. It's time for you to change, Yako." Neuro comments.
"It will be fine, Yako. Be confident." I encourage her with a soft smile, causing Yako to nod her head.
Yako calls Godai, and he picks us up. While Neuro and I visit the office, Yako gets her needed information. Neuro places the circular Zeep plate on the table in front of Godai. Godai has his head on the table, tears pouring from his eyes. "My...my car..." He abruptly lifts his head and starts to yell at Neuro. "Why did it-"
Neuro has put his hair up into a small ponytail, his bangs on either side of his face. I sit next to Neuro, keeping an eye on his wounds. Neuro cuts him off by putting his foot on his face. "Before that, I have something for you to prepare."
~~~Yako's POV~~~
I make a stop to get something to eat. I sit in the park thinking as I eat. Password…HAL says it's his goal. If I understand more about Professor Haruka, I might get something.
I finish my food before looking up at the police station. Sasazuka-san meets me. "I'm sorry to bother you at such a time, Sasazuka-san."
"No problem, Professor Haruka's death and the warship case is under investigation by the National Security." He stops before a door and turns his head to look at me. "To be honest, why do you want to see Haruka's information?"
I lower my head. "It's hard to explain now. I just have to understand…understand everything about Professor Haruka."
Sasazuka-san stares at me before taking me into a room already filled with boxes of information. "There's this much?"
"Yeah, do your best." Sasazuka-san states before he closes the door behind him.
My face twitches before I let out a sigh. "Okay!"
I open a file and begin reading through the information and watching some of his recordings. I let out a sigh and placed my head on the table. "Even if I said that…If the password has something to do with such professional terms…Then I surrender…"
My phone goes off, and I open it to see a text from Akane-chan. "Password prompt?" I opened it. "Half English, half numbers…a maximum of 21 characters. What does the slash mean in front?" I let out a sigh. "How will I get it…" I lower my head. "I've done so much already. But how can I give up already? Goal…Motive…"
I close my eyes, and what Higuchi-san said comes to my mind. 'The motive behind criminal acts is really simple.' 'If something seems complicated, in the end, it's just something that's really simple.'
My eyes widen, and I stand. "Higuchi-san! HAL's motive may be…"
I turn to the left when I hear his recording playing. "The creation of intelligence is similar to the creation of the creature itself. The fact that both are created from nothing is unopposed. But what if we trace it?"
"Don't tell me…this is the…reason?" I mutter in disbelief.
The door is knocked on, and Sasazuka-san and Ishigaki-san enter. "We're coming in."
Ishigaki-san lets out a shout. "Look what you did to such an important paper!"
I look down to see papers on the floor. "Daydreaming because you're hungry?" Sasazuka-san- questions. "Shall we get some snacks?" He looks at Ishigaki-san, causing him to look up. "Me?"
"Thanks in advance." I thank them with a smile. Sasazuka-san walks past and puts another box on the table. "What's that?"
"Information on Haruka's work in the university hospital's special facility. I'm not sure if it's any help." He admits.
I look up at Sasazuka-san with a smile. "Sasazuka-san!"
"Well, this is part of my job." He says with a smile.
Ishigaki-san then appears with an arm filled with snacks. "I'm back."
I begin eating the snacks as I continue to go through the information. I think I'm getting close. The answer must be in these documents.
I hear the door open before Ishigaki-san lets out a shout. "How much do you think you're eating!?" I turn to look. "How much does it cost to fill your stomach?! A billion? A trillion? Don't tell me you need more!"
I pout before glaring at him. "You're really rude! You can ring Yuuki-nee to get money for it."
I freeze before slowly turning my head to look at the papers on the table. It might be…
~~~Yuuki's POV~~~
Neuro gets Akane to send Yako the password prompt to help her with the password. With Godai gone, I stand up. "Neuro, I'm going to try to speed up you're healing."
Neuro doesn't say anything but looks interested. I close my eyes after standing in front of Neuro. My wings spread out wide behind me as my body began to glow green. I concentrate the energy on my hands. Once I have, I place them on Neuro's chest and push the energy inside his body. My wings fold shut as I open my eyes.
I look down at Neuro. "How is it? Can you move your body more freely?"
Neuro looks back at me with the same emotion as when my body changes in his eyes. I was about to open my mouth to ask Neuro if he was alright when he grabbed my arm and pulled me onto his lap. I place my hand on his chest to keep from falling. I looked up at Neuro, and once again, before I realised what was happening, I felt something warm on my lips.
I blink a few times before realising that Neuro has placed his lips on mine. I go to pull back, but Neuro pulls me closer. I open my mouth to speak to Neuro, but he takes that chance to sneak his tongue inside.
I slowly give in and kiss Neuro back. We part when we run out of air, saliva attached to our mouths. Neuro moves forward again and kisses me much deeper than the first time.
When we part, I rest my head against his neck as I regain my breath. I get comfortable and end up falling asleep.
~~~Neuro's POV~~~
I stare at Yuuki's face as she falls asleep against my neck. Her lips were red and slightly wet, and I couldn't help feeling incredibly smug about her reaction to our kiss. However, my body had quite a reaction as well.
I lift my left hand and clench my fingers before unclenching them. The energy from Yuuki helped my body speed up its healing. I lean back against the chair and get comfortable.
~~~Yuuki's POV~~~
I wake up when Neuro lifts his left arm. I open my eyes to see it is dark outside. A fly comes near Neuro's finger, which is destroyed with a small burst of his power. "2% until I'm fully recovered." He sits up, his arm around my waist. "But I can't wait anymore."
I hear footsteps running up the stairs just before Yako opens the door, breathing heavily.
"Yako, did you find the password?" Neuro demands.
"Yea, I can only think of one thing," Yako replies, confidence shining in her eyes.
Neuro smirks as his hair comes undone. "Good job."
"You did well, Yako." I praise her with a soft smile, causing her to look at me proudly.
We meet up with Godai, who has a helicopter. "You guys want to hear how I got one of these babies?"
Neuro kicks him in the side of the head before sitting down. Godai lifts the helicopter in the air, and he flies toward the warship.
