~~~Chapter Twenty-Four~~~
~~~Previous~~~
We continue to follow the stairs. "I can hear something," Yako mutters.
We get to the top and poke our heads around, and we let out a gasp. People are wearing bird-like clothes, each holding a torch of fire and chanting. "What are those guys doing?" Godai questions.
Yako looks around. "This place is…"
We see the priest walk forward. "When the witch of the legends is reborn. She will be sacrificed to the gods."
"It's him!" Yako gasps.
He holds up his arms. "Accept our offering. The horrible witch…has returned to the village again. We will return this witch…back to the darkness."
"Ah! Mio-san!" Yako calls, surprised.
"Idiot!" Godai scolds her as he pushes her head down.
Just then, Godai's phone goes off. Yako and Godai let out a gasp. The priest lets out a scoff. "Capture the ones who want to disrupt the ceremony!" He orders as the people rush away from him.
~~~3rd POV~~~
"She hung up," Ishigaki says as he lowers the phone.
"Hung up?" Sasazuka question.
"It connected for a while, but she hung up," Ishigaki replies.
"I wonder why." Sasazuka comments.
"I have no idea..." Ishigaki admits.
"Did something happen?" Sasazuka queries.
~~~Yuuki's POV~~~
Godai punches a man away, and I kick another away when Yako lets out a scream. "Let me go!"
"Yako!" I call out as I turn around.
I hear Godai let out a sound and turn to see someone had hit him over the head. "Godai-san! Godai-san! Godai-san!" Yako and I call out, but he doesn't answer.
Yako lets out a sigh. "I understand everything now." Yako pushes the man holding her away and points down at the priest. "Charango-san. Regarding the Seiren incident 20 years ago…The murderer…is you." Yako trails off as she is hit unconscious.
Before I can do anything, there is a hit at the back of my neck, and everything goes black.

~~~3rd POV~~~
~~~In the Secret Room~~~
Mio is in one of the boxes, Yako and Yuuki in the other, and Godai has been tied up. All of them are still unconscious. The priest walks over and looks inside one of the boxes. "Firstly, this woman…is she really that legendary witch? Or is she just a fake with her face?" He holds up his arms. "Let's prove it in the name of the god! If she's really a witch, answer with silence. If she's not a witch, then shout it out. You're a witch, huh?" It is silent before the priest turns to look at the others. "Everyone! This is a reply of silence! This woman is indeed a witch!"
The other looks at each other before the priest approaches Mio and lifts her chin. "Seiren, I never thought that you were really a witch." He lets her chin go and stands up. "Fellow priests. God will test her again."
He lifts his hand, and a large block is released. "If there isn't a single sound coming from her when this holy cover goes over her, this woman has to be a real witch!"
At the same time, Yako and Yuuki regained consciousness. Yuuki snaps out of it first and sees the block above where Mio is and has a quick idea of what he is going to do.
The priest has his arm lifted in the air. "Begin the judgment!" He slashes his arm down. The chain breaks, and the block falls, landing on Mio, causing a scream to come from inside before blood pools out from the bottom. Yako's eyes widen before she faints once more. Yuuki closes her eyes and pretends to still be unconscious.
The priest places his hand in Mio's blood and drags his hands down the side of his face, causing the blood to be left behind. "She's indeed a witch, huh?" He turns to look at Yako and Yuuki. "Well then, the next ones…These little girls…" He walks over. "You're witches too, right? It's an answer of silence. These women are indeed witches, too! Alright then!" He lifts his arm. Another block is removed, and he goes to bring down his arm when there is a sound from behind him.
He abruptly turns around. "Impossible! The blood…stopped flowing?"
The box starts to shake, causing the priest to gasp. The block is thrown off, and blood spurts out. The block falls and lands in front of the priest, which makes him let out a gasp. The blood finally stops.
At this point, Godai has woken up. "That's…Could it be…"
The figure inside turns around. The priest backs away. "M-Monster!" He snaps out of it. "What are you guys doing?! Hurry up and give her the holy judgment!" The priest orders.
The men hold up their swords. The red mist disappears to show Sai. "I'm a monster, huh?" Sai lowers his hand and smirks.
A man rushes towards him. Sai punches the sword away, causing the man to scream as he loses his hand. Sai jumps out of the box and into the air to catch the sword. Another man throws his sword at Sai, but Sai catches it in his hand while throwing the other sword back at him, causing it to go through his chest and back. The man next to him looks, but he can't do anything as Sai appears next to him and slashes him with the sword. He rushes towards the last three, slashes at them, and they fall to the ground. All of them are dead, blood pooling around their bodies.
The priest lets out a gasp, and Godai clenches his teeth. The priest's bladder loosens, and he releases himself on the floor, causing his skin to lose its energy. His hair has turned white, and he looks to be the age that he should have been.
He falls to his knees and begins to cry heavily. "Please forgive me! I just wanted to have Seiren for myself! Since everything in the village belongs to me! Only Seiren doesn't belong to me!" He continues to cry.
"The inside of someone like you…" Sai walks towards him. "I wonder if it's worth seeing?" He stops in front of him. "Anyway, for now..." He holds up a sword.
The priest stops crying and coughs up blood. Sai lifts him using the sword pierced through him and throws him inside one of the boxes. Sai leans down and lifts the same block that he had thrown off. The man panics and tries to escape but doesn't get far, and Sai places the block over him. The block slowly kills him, causing blood to pool from the bottom.
Sai lets out a sigh. "Indeed, it's just these…How common…"
Godai's eyes widen when Sai walks over to the other box. He lifts Yako, places her over his shoulder and then picks up Yuuki and holds her against his chest. He walks past Godai, who pretends to be unconscious.
When Sai goes by, Godai gets up and glares at his back. "Hey! Wait up! You bastard! I'm still over here!"
Sai turns to look at him. "Have we met before?" Godai lets out a low gasp. "I have business with your master. If he's able to come, I won't kill them. I'll be waiting at the central remains in the front."
Godai lets out a scoff and rushes toward him. "Underestimating me!"
Sai abruptly turns and kicks him in the stomach, causing him to fall to the ground. Godai lifts his head, and Sai turns away and walks off. "Remember to tell him that. Bye."
Godai lifts his head. "DAMN IT!" He curses as he bangs his head on the ground.
Sai continues to walk down a large set of steps. Yako is still unconscious yet is thinking about the mystery. In my dream, I've been thinking about this mystery. A mystery that slowly reveals itself on the water's surface…And an unknown mystery…Indeed, okaa-san came to this country in search of the mystery of the death of my otou-san. And then, she learned of otou-san's past…Thus, she wanted to know Seiren's identity, no matter what. Mystery…Pieces of mystery…The building style of this remains…My otou-san…the study room in my house…Sasazuka-san's memo…Mystery…The walls of the study room…Why was it dyed red by fresh blood? A room dyed with blood…A red room…A red box?! That's right! Sai transformed into Mio-san. To Mio-san…
~~~Yuuki's POV~~~
I pretend to stay unconscious, not like anyone can tell the difference. At least until I sense Yako beginning to awaken. I open my eyes and look to see Yako next to me. She opened her eyes to see the pair of us tied up. She tries moving about, but nothing happens.
"You finally woke up, right?" Sai comments, and he swings and appears in front of us, hanging upside down; Yako gasps. "We meet again, right?"
"Phantom Thief Sai…That outfit…" Yako trails off.
"He was Mio." I point out.
"Well, that's what I'm best at, right?" He jumps down and lands on the floor.
"Why did you do something like that?" Yako queries confused.
Sai looks up. "Why?" He turns to the side. "Here…Because of here…" We look to see we are in a ritual-type room. "This place was built to seal magic, right?" He looks back at us. "You know, too, right? From Neuro."
Yako and I share a look as Sai continues. "It seems like it's true that Neuro came from the demon realm. Therefore, he can't come here, right?" He turns to the side and holds out a hand. "It seems like he's unable to use his demon powers successfully here." Sai walks down the steps. "Not only that, the special magnetism field here will corrode the body of a demon. I studied pretty hard about these remains." He stops near a fire torch. "That's why I chose this place as the battleground for me and Neuro."
Yako lets out a surprised sound. "Do you want to say that I'm cheating? If I don't use this place, I'll definitely not win if I fight him face-on. No matter what, I wanted to see the inside of Neuro."
"The secret of this remains isn't just that. Did you know?" Yako states.
Sai lunges forward and grabs Yako around the throat. "You're still trying to do what you're best at? I'll no longer listen to those words of yours."
"Sai!" I scold. My eyes glow, and a barrier surrounds Yako's throat, making him release his hand from her throat. Yako coughs as soon as he does.
Sai stares at me, causing me to lift my eyebrows before he looks away after the building shakes. "I have a reason to hurry." He backs away and looks up. "This remain is made up of four towers at the side and the central tower. However,…There are five pipelines that happen to go through these five towers. Because of that, the foundation became very unstable. Honestly! The way humans do things…However, the information will be proven true if Neuro doesn't come here. With you two as the hostage, he'll have to come no matter what. He won't give up easily on someone he has helped to become a famous detective and someone he is close to, right?"
"But you can't guarantee that Neuro will definitely come, can you?" Yako points out.
Sai lifts a hand. "That would be troublesome. I've wasted so much time in setting up traps over here. I've prepared more than enough 'mystery,' right?"
Yako suddenly looked up and let a gasp. "Are you the witch in the photo?"
Sai shrugs his shoulders. "That's right! I've transformed into that woman called Seiren. But instead, I used the name 'Mio.'"
"I understand it now. Neuro doesn't have to come for those mysteries that you've made up. I'll solve this mystery! If I'm right, you'll have to untie me." Yako bargains.
"Eh? You're pretty cocky, huh?" Sai walks toward her and leans forward with his hands on his hips. "Well, then, I'll listen to it. You do know what will happen if you say something wrong, right?"
~~~3rd POV~~~
Sasazuka goes to his car. Neuro gets in the front. Ishigaki is standing outside near Sasazuka's opened window. "Senpai, are you really going to the village?"
"Yeah." Sasazuka agrees.
Ishigaki points at himself. "Is it really alright for me not to go with you?"
Sasazuka moves his centre mirror around. "Why do you want to go?"
Tears stream down Ishigaki's cheeks. "Please forgive me for that!"
Sasazuka turns on the car engine. "Just finish those things I asked you to do."
Ishigaki backed away from the car. "Roger."
As they start driving, Neuro coughs. Sasazuka looks at him briefly. "What's wrong?"
"The air around here is really bad." Neuro wipes the blood away before moving his hand in front of him. "Oh, that's right! I forgot to bring my cold medicine. Is it alright for me to go back and get it?"
"Go back where?" Sasazuka asks.
"Japan," Neuro states flatly.
Sasazuka ignores him and continues driving towards Sharato village.
~~~Yuuki's POV~~~
"In order to lure us here, you changed to look like the witch who everyone was afraid of over here. And appeared in front of a man called Rarita. And then…You let him take a picture of you and made him strike a deal with our okaa-san. After our okaa-san fell into your trap, you tried to use this to lure us to this place. How is it? Am I right?" Yako queries.
Sai closes his eyes before opening one to look at Yako. "Well, you're around 80 marks, I should say…I felt that Shisai, who was afraid of getting revenge for that incident that happened 20 years ago, would attack your mother. Anyway, due to that Kamata's interruptions, there was an accident that caused Rarita to be killed." Sai looks away. "But the result is still the same, right? You, Yuuki and Neuro came."
"But there's still one thing that isn't clear. At Professor Kamata's house, why were you feeling that bad?" I question.
Sai turns away. "Who knows…Well, I should praise you for understanding this much. SO SLOW!" He shouts, making Yako jump. "I know it…My memories will soon refresh themselves." He has a hand on his forehead. "I felt pain over here…Lately, the period for my memories to refresh is getting shorter. They'll refresh once in every six months, I think…"
"Every six months?" I repeat.
Yako's eyes widen. "Are you trying to say that you don't remember anything that happened six months ago?"
Sai lowers his hand. "That time is getting closer again. In another 2 hours, all my memories will be gone. I wanted to cut open Neuro and see his insides before I forget everything."
"But Neuro might not come." Yako points out.
Sai turns to look at us. "I can only wait for another hour." He sits down. "If he doesn't come, I'll change you into a box." He pulls something from his pocket and throws it behind him. It lands on the floor, showing it is a smaller red box. Yako's eyes widen, and she begins to wiggle around.
"You can try. Won't get far, though." I comment, which causes Sai to look at me briefly before looking away.
I see Yako suddenly look at her pocket, and her phone slides out and lands on the ground. Akane-chan has lost colour and is now white and isn't moving. Yako and I share a look of worry. Something is up with Neuro…His powers aren't working properly.
~~~3rd POV~~~
"Hey, is it really this way?" Neuro doesn't answer. Sasazuka looks out his window. "Let's go ask about it." He turns the car to the left and drives through the bushes. He gets out of the car. "I'm sorry, but where is...Eh? A Japanese, huh?" A man tries hitting Sasazuka from behind. Luckily, he knocked him out. "It seems like I'm not welcome here, huh?"
"Finish them off!" The village chief orders.
The people all run towards Sasazuka. He knocks out two people, and one sneaks up behind him, but Godai lunges forward, hitting the man with his head. "Don't be careless!"
The pair of them easily knocks out most of the people until they are standing back-to-back. "Oh my, you're pretty good." Sasazuka praises.
"Yeah, that goes to you too." Godai praises back.
There is a roar that causes Sasazuka and Godai to look and see the village chief sitting on top of a jaguar. Neuro gets out of the car. The jaguar roars again, and Neuro stands in front of it. The jaguar lunges toward Neuro, lands on him, and pushes him to the ground, biting Neuro's shoulder. "Hey!" Godai yells.
"Police-san! Hurry up and save Sensei and Yuuki with that guy..." Neuro starts before letting out a fake low scream.
"But..." Sasazuka trails off.
"Hey, let's go! We have to save the detective and Yuuki!" Godai yells, gaining Sasazuka's attention.
"Just what is going on?" Sasazuka questions.
"It's alright! Just follow me!" Godai states. Sasazuka quickly follows after him.
Neuro stops his fake scream and sits up, holding the Jaguar's arms. The Jaguar stops roaring, turns harmless and lets out a meow. The village chief falls to the ground in shock as Neuro stands up, the Jaguar draped across his shoulders, rubbing against his right one. "Well then, Oji-san...Do you know where the pipeline is?"
~~~Yuuki's POV~~~
"He's so slow…Even though there's no time…" Sai comments.
Yako, who was trying to get her phone, stopped. "He won't come already. He could have been sleeping."
Sai stands up and smirks. The building shakes, which causes Yako and me to look up. "Again, huh? If this goes on, you'll be buried alive before Neuro comes." He comments before laughing.
~~~3rd POV~~~
He tells Neuro, and he goes to where they are being built. Neuro uses his demon powers to destroy the pipelines from the inside, causing an explosion.
Sasazuka looks up at the smoke with wide eyes as Godai walks over and comes to a stop next to him. "I got something nice." Godai follows his gaze. "What the hell is that?"
Sasazuka's phone goes off, and he answers it. "What is it, Ishigaki?"
"Senpai, are you alright?" He asks, sounding panicked.
"Yes, at least for now." Sasazuka comments.
"Please come back right now!" Ishigaki pleads. "The embassy has announced for the evacuation of the Japanese. The main office has also told us to return right away! I just don't understand what the hell is happening around here!"
Sasazuka ends the call and puts his phone back in his pocket. "Hey, what is it?" Godai asks.
"Let's hurry." Sasazuka orders before running forward.
Godai holds out his hand. "Hey! Damn it…Oh well…" He runs after him. "What a silent one…
Standing on the top of a cliff, Neuro gazes down to see clouds of smoke. Indeed, this place only has such effects…Do I still need some more time?
Back in Japan, the news is shown on a large screen. "The embassy announced the order for the Japanese to evacuate. The list of Japanese who are still inside the country is as follows…Katsuragi Haruka-san, Kakei Mio-san, Sasazuka Eishi-san, Ishigaki Jun-san, Godai Shinobu-san, Katsuragi Yako-san, Katsuragi Yuuki-san, Nougami Neuro-san."
It flashes to people who know them. Kanae and Higuchi look up at the screen; Yuka is with Ikeya, who is treating her like a table. They stop and look at the screen. In prison, it shows Aya, who also looks at the screen.
Back with Sasazuka and Godai, they have made it to the remains. Neuro is still gazing down. "Out of time…huh."
Sasazuka and Godai make it inside. One of Yako's clips is on the ground. Sasazuka picks it up. "Yako-chan. Yuuki-chan." Sasazuka clenches his fist around the hairclip before running through the hall, making it to the ritual-type room. He looks around, and his eyes widen when he sees Yako and Yuuki tied with a rope, feet dangling above the ground.
He runs over to Yako and Yuuki. "Are you alright, Yako-chan? Yuuki-chan?" Yako opens her eyes before there is a slashing sound. The ropes had been destroyed, and Sasazuka fell to the ground. Yuuki falls not far away and sits up. Sasazuka looks up to see Yako.
"What the heck, it's you, huh? Those interrupters should just go sleep first." Yako kicks him away before her face changes into Sai. "You finally came, right?" Sai states happily when he sees Neuro.
A cover falls off the pillar to show Yako tied to it. "Neuro!" Yako and Yuuki calls out. Yuuki stands up and makes it over to Yako.
"You've made it in time for my last dinner." Sai comments.
Neuro lands close to Sai. "If you want to eat someone over your limit, your stomach won't be able to handle it. You've prepared yourself, right?"
"Are you trying to say that it's over my limit to see your insides?" Sai questions with a scoff.
"Besides, it's really bad to do something like holding a hostage. If you want to challenge me, you should think of something more intelligent." Neuro states.
"I don't have much time left. It's alright to be arrogant. The more I want to kill you, I'll be able to go further from looking like a human." Sai's appearance changes. His feet split to show two feet on each side, so he has four feet. Long spikes poke out of his arm and out of his knuckles. "That is to say that my abilities are unlimited!"
Sai lunges at Neuro. Neuro dodges, but a strand of his hair is cut. Sai is quick to lunge at him two more times. Sai laughs as he lands on the other side of Neuro. "You're different from usual, huh? Indeed, you can't use anymore demon powers."
Neuro takes off his left glove and wipes the blood from his mouth. Sai begins to laugh hysterically. "Come get me...NOUGAMI NEURO!" Sai shouts.
"Neuro..." Yako trails off.
"If you die, I'll bring you back just to kill you again," Yuuki warns nonchalantly.
Neuro looks back at Yuuki briefly, smirks, and then jumps down to where Sai is standing. He lands on a trapped tile. Two statues move and throw spikes towards Neuro's back. He doesn't dodge, and it goes through his chest and sets him through the air. As he is hovering in the air, he coughs up a large amount of blood.
"NEURO!" Yako and Yuuki scream with tears in the corner of their eyes.
