Once Tilly was bathed and in her pyjamas, she headed downstairs to get the milk and cookies she had each night.

"There you go" Rose smiled as she handed them over. "Thank you mummy. Can I eat them in the living room?" Tilly asked. Rose nodded "yes, try not to make a mess" she said as Tilly walked away.

Tilly walked in to the living room and placed the glass and cookies on the coffee table. She climbed on to the sofa and sat right beside Jack. "Daddy?" She said. "Hmm?" He asked as he was snapped out of his thoughts. "Why are you sad?" She said thoughtfully. Jack smiled a little and wrapped his arm around her. "I'm a little sad that James has left, but I'll be OK. I've got you, and mummy and Sophia. I'll be fine" he bent down and kissed her head. She wrapped her arm over him "love you" she said. "I love you too" he smiled at his daughters kindness.

Once Tilly and Sophia were in bed, Jack and Rose were curled up on the sofa. "Are you going to work tomorrow?" Rose asked as she looked up at him. "Yeah, I probably should" he smiled gently at her. "OK" she smiled weakly and stroked his cheek. She wanted to comfort Jack, but didn't know how. She just hoped he truly knew that James leaving was what was best for him.

8th September, 1920

Jack woke up the at 2am the following night thanks to Sophia's cries. Somehow, Rose was sleeping through it. Jack got up and lifted her out of her crib. They planned to put Sophia in her own bedroom at the end of the month so he was more than happy to tend to her.

"Heyyy… shhh" he said as he rocked her gently "I'm here" he kissed her head. Sophia wasn't particularly comforted by Jack on this occasion, which was rare, normally both girls could be comforted by Jack just as much as they could by Rose.

He quietly walked around the room and began to sing in a whisper "come Josephine in my flying machine…" he sang. Rose began to wake up but didn't say anything and just watched as Jack's singing stopped Sophia crying. "Hey" he smiled at Rose as he stopped her awake "hi" she smiled gently. "Want me to take her?" She offered "no, it's OK" he smiled. "Are you sure? You have to be up for work in the morning" she said concerned "it's fine, honestly" he smiled again. "If you're sure" she replied and yawned. "Is she asleep?" Rose asked, noticing Sophia's cries had stopped. Jack looked down at her "yeah" he nodded and gently put her back in her crib before climbing back in beside Rose. She cuddled up to him and fell back to sleep almost immediately. He fell asleep not long after.

At 4am Jack woke up to Tilly shaking him gently. "Daddy?" She whispered. He scrunched up his eyes before opening them, disoriented seeing Tilly, thinking it was the middle of the night, confirmed as he looked at the clock on the nightstand. "Hey, what's up?" He asked "I've been sick…" Jack sat up "where?" He asked as he wiped the tears from Tilly's cheeks. "In my bed" "OK" he said as he climbed out of bed and held his hand out. "Let's go and brush you teeth to get the taste out of your mouth and change your top" Tilly nodded and took hold of it. They left Jack and Rose's bedroom and went in to Tilly's room where she got changed before going in to the bathroom so she could brush her teeth. "I'll change your bedsheets but do you want to sleep in mine and mummy's bed or your own bed?" "Yours please" she said sadly "OK" he smiled gently and held his arms out, offering to pick her up.

He carried her in to his room and placed her in the middle of the bed. "Wait, can I go and get cuddles and Arthur?" She asked. He chuckled to himself, she really would never leave those bears behind "I'll go" he said as he left the room.

He came back in and passed her the teddies before climbing in besides her. "Try and get some sleep, but wake me up if you feel unwell, OK?" He said, getting a nod in response "thank you… I'm sorry" she looked up at him with a scared look on her face. "You don't need to apologise" he frowned confused. The last time Tilly had a sickness bug, she was told off by Cal and the house keeper for being sick on the landing as she went to get Rose, so was nervous about being sick again. "Come on, lay down" he said as he kissed her head. Tilly nodded and lay down in between him and Rose "love you" she said quietly "love you too" he smiled gently.
