This will only be the first installment of a collection of short stories that describes the different relationships Enzo will build with each of the turtles. Leo, Mikey, Donnie, and Raph will come to realize that having an actual baby brother is a bigger challenge that could not be solved by ninjutsu. Hope you all enjoy it. Chapter 2: Brotherhood: Part 2

Breakfast

Master Splinter stirred the pot of oatmeal on the stove while his four small turtle students were opening a jar of baby food for their new little brother. Enzo sat in a high chair as he watched Raph struggle with unscrewing the cap off the jar.

"Hey, Raph, having a little trouble telling the jar whose boss?" joked Mikey.

"Shut it, Mikey!" growled the hot-headed turtle.

"Maybe you're twisting the wrong way," said Donnie.

"I'm twisting it the right way," retorted Raph.

"You want us to help you?" asked Leo.

The hot headed turtle glared at his brother shouting, "I don't need help!"

Raphael grunted as he strained to open the jar. He was still very young and not strong enough to land a powerful punch to the training dummy in the dojo. Eventually, the lid flew off the jar and ricocheted off the wall before landing in the pot of oatmeal, splattering a little in Master Splinter's face. The rat did not react but just gave a deadpan stare to the lid and sighed as he scooped it out with the spoon.

With the jar of baby food now opened, Raph placed the jar in front of the baby and scooped up some of the mush with a small plastic spoon.

"Alright runt, here's your breakfast," said Raph.

He moved the spoon towards Enzo, but the human infant would not open his mouth.

"Come on, eat it," groaned the hot-headed turtle. "Eat!"

His patience already started to boil. Raph moved the spoon closer to the point where he dabbed the baby's cheek, getting a smudge of baby food on it.

Mikey and Donnie struggled to hold back their laughter at Raphael's frustration. Out of all the things to trigger their short-tempered brother, it was feeding a baby that lit his fuse.

"Hey! Didn't you hear me? You're supposed to put this in your mouth and swallow it! How stupid are you?" shouted Raphael.

Enzo's lips quivered as tears welled up in his eyes. Before the turtles could do anything, the human infant began to cry. The lair echoed with the earsplitting wails of the child.

"Way to go, Raph!" shouted Leo. "You made Enzo cry."

"Hey, it's not my fault the little pipsqueak won't eat," retorted Raphael.

"That's because you're doing it all wrong," said Mikey.

"Oh, you got a better idea, pizza breath?"

Mikey took the spoon from his brother and gave him a smirk. "Watch and learn, big bro."

The youngest turtle scooped up more of the baby food, but instead of moving it toward Enzo, he began to move the spoon in circles around the infant's head.

"Enzo, here comes the spaceship!" said Mikey.

The youngest turtle began to make spaceship sounds with his mouth as he moved the spoon in different directions around Enzo. The human child's crying faded as his eyes watched the flying spoon Michelangelo used to hypnotize him. Enzo stared in awe at the fluent movements and slowly opened his mouth. Mikey's slow movements with the spoon got closer to the infant's face until he was able to place the spoon inside Enzo's mouth.

"Houston, the S.S. Baby Breakfast has landed," joked the youngest turtle.

He pulled the spoon out of the baby's mouth as Enzo took a moment to swallow it.

The eyes of the three other turtles were winded and their mouths agape, astonished at how Mikey's humorous antics convinced Enzo to eat.

The youngest turtle turned back to his brothers. "See? You just got to turn feeding time into fun time."

"Wow, Mikey…that…was impressive," said Leo.

The young leader was taken aback by his clumsy brother's sudden childcare skills.

Michelangelo just shrugged. "What can I say? I'm a natural."

"I'll never complain about how you play with your food ever again," said Donatello.

Raphael just turned away, crossed his arms, and growled.

Michelangelo continued to feed Enzo using his playful antics until Splinter was finished cooking the turtles' breakfast.

Early Education

Enzo sat on the floor while Donatello placed an assortment of toys around him. Most of them included the typical infancy toys: plastic colored rigs, different-shaped blocks that fit through a tray, stuffed dolls, some rattles, flashcards, and picture books.

The young smart turtle smiled with pride with his hands on his hips. "Alright, Enzo, it's time to put those neurons of yours to work. As they say, you're never too young to start learning."

Donnie pulled out an iPod and connected it to a speaker. He scrolled through the playlists until he found one titled Works of Mozart. The smart turtle pressed play as calming piano music echoed throughout the lair.

"Augh! What is that noise?!" shouted Michelangelo.

The youngest turtle walked in while covering his ears.

"That noise, Mikey, is Mozart. One of the greatest musicians in history" retorted Donnie. "And it is said that his music helps increase brain activity, which is important for Enzo's development."

"Can it make you less of a nerd?" replied Mikey.

Donatello rolled his eyes and grumbled, "You're such an illiterate."

"I can't believe you're letting Enzo listen to this garbage. What happened to Old McDonald?"

"I find it very soothing," said Master Splinter from the couch.

The rat's eyes were closed with a wide grin on his muzzle.

"Met too," said Leo, sitting beside their sensei.

"Am I the only sane one here?" retorted the youngest turtle.

Enzo was too busy with his new toys to listen to their conversation as he examined the colorful rings and different shaped blocks.

"Where did you get the toys, Donnie?" asked Leo.

"You'd be surprised what useful stuff humans throw in their garbage," replied the smart turtle. "Of course, I had to fix some of them up so they would be safe for Enzo to play with."

The turtles watched the human infant continue to play with his toys, examining each of the different ones Donatello laid before him. Enzo giggled with joy as he picked up the block that was shaped like a star. He looked down at the wooden board with the different-shaped holes and banged the block on the surface. Enzo's infant brain thought the weird shape belonged to the flat object, but he did not know how.

As if on instinct, Donnie walked over and knelt in front of his human brother. The smart turtle picked up the block in the shape of a cube and held it in front of Ezno to see.

"Look Enzo," said Donnie. "This is called a square. The square block goes into the square hole."

The smart turtle pointed to the cube in his hand and traced it to the matching whole. Enzo watched as Donatello placed the block in the proper hole and it stuck firmly inside the flat piece of wood.

"See? Now you try," said Donnie.

He held the board up for the infant, who looked at the two remaining holes. Using the star-shaped block in his hand, Enzo moved it towards the whole shaped like a star. Donnie guided his hand so the block was aligned perfectly. Together, they were able to fit the star block in its proper hole. Enzo laughed and clapped at his accomplishment.

"You did it, Enzo!" cried the little smart turtle. "Now, let's see if we can get the last one in. Then, I'll help you with the ring tower."

Master Splinter watched happily as his smartest son played with Enzo and helped him with solving the simple puzzles. Eventually, Michelangelo and Leonardo joined them. Mickey made funny voices as he held up the dolls in front of Enzo, creating the illusion they were talking. Leo helped the human infant to create a simple melody on the xylophone. It warmed the rat's heart that his students took joy in caring for their new little brother.

Drawing Straws

All of the turtles stared at Enzo as he lay in his crib, staring back at them with a toothless smile. However, where they normally would not mind watching their little brother, the turtles pinched their noses from a foul odor coming from the baby.

"Yep, it's that time again," said Donatello.

"Can't we just get Master Splinter to do it?" asked Michelangelo.

"Unfortunately, Mikey, you're forgetting Master Splinter is away and won't be back for another two hours," said Leo.

"Oh great! So now we have to clean the little stink bomb ourselves?" asked Raphael.

"I'm afraid so," said the young leader.

He turned to Donatello with a severe look. "Donnie…get the straws."

The smart turtle made a loud gulp in his throat before leaving the room for a few seconds. Mikey and Raph exchanged nervous looks. Donatello returned with four plastic straws in one hand, all of them aligned perfectly together.

"Okay, you all know the rules," said Leo. "Whoever has the shortest straw has to change Enzo."

The three other turtles chose a straw to grip between their fingers. The air hung heavy with suspense for none of the turtles wanted to pick the short straw, but one of them had to change Enzo while Master Splinter was unavailable. This was the only way.

"On the count of three," said Leo. "One…two…three!"

In unison, Mickey, Raph, and Leo quickly pulled their straws from Donnie's hand. They each examined their straw. In the end, it was Raphael who had the shortest.

"Oh, come on!" shouted the hot-headed young turtle. "Best two out of three!"

Donatello smirked while shaking his head. "Sorry Raph, you know the rules. No do-overs."

"Yeah, Raph. No do-overs" said Mikey before sticking out his tongue.

Raphael growled and said, "How about a rip that tongue out of your mouth and use it to wipe the dojo?!"

As he was getting ready to pounce on his younger brother, Leonardo stepped between the two.

"Come on, Raph. Can you stop whining for once when it comes to Enzo? The rest of us got the short straw and had to do it eventually. No matter how gross it is, Master Splinter made it clear that he is all of our responsibility now," said the leader. "Plus, the Star Wars marathon starts soon and I don't want to miss it."

The young leader sprinted out of the room as fast as he could.

"Yeah, and I promised Master Splinter I would clean up my workshop from my last project," said Donatello before he bolted after Leo.

With only two turtles left, Raph glared at Michelangelo.

The youngest turtle pressed his fingers together as he tried to avoid his brother's intimidating gaze. "Uhhh…umm…Oh! I think I left the vacuum on!"

Michelangelo ran out before Raphael had the chance to attack.

With no one else in the room, the hot-headed turtle looked back at the baby in the crib and made a loud groan.

"Why do I get stuck with the grossest jobs when it comes to the human?"

"Because we love you!" shouted Mikey from a distance.

Ralph growled before reluctantly grabbing the new diaper and bottle of baby powder.

Lullabies

Enzo's wails echoed throughout the lair, waking up all of the turtles from their beds. The four young reptiles stretched and yawned as they made their way to the human infant's room. It was unique to them that someone so tiny could cry loud enough to wake everyone in the lair.

Splinter had already picked up Enzo from his crib and cradled him in his arms, but the infant would not calm down.

"What's wrong with Enzo?" asked Donnie.

"Argh! When did the human become our personal alarm clock?" complained Raphael.

"Please don't tell me had to go again, I'm not ready for the straws," whined Mikey.

"Maybe he needs his bottle," said Leo.

"It is alright, my sons. I believe he just had a nightmare," replied the rat.

"Babies can have nightmares?" said Leo.

Master Splinter nodded. "Of course, Leonardo. You four would also suffer from night terrors when you were this age."

Mikey scratched his head in thought. "Funny, I don't remember having baby nightmares."

"That's because you have a brain the size of a pea," retorted Raph.

Donatello pulled a teddy bear from the crib and held it in front of the human infant. "Look Enzo, it's Mr. Teddy! He doesn't want you feeling sad, he wants you feeling happy."

The young smart turtle playfully bounced the stuffed toy to make it look like it was dancing while impersonating a funny voice for the stuffed bear, but Enzo continued to cry.

Michelangelo stepped forward and said, "Hey Enzo, look at me!"

The youngest turtle began to make funny faces in front of the child, but to no avail did it calm his crying.

Raphael just sat in the corner, covering his ears and gritting his teeth.

Finally, Leo stepped forward and asked, "Master Splinter, I might have an idea. Can I hold him?"

The rat was quiet for a few seconds before saying, "Very well, Leonardo, but do be careful."

He knelt down and gently handed the baby over to the little turtle. Leo gently cradled the crying infant in his arms. Suddenly, the young leader began to sing a gentle song in Japanese as he rocked Enzo back and forth. The infant's cries slowly faded into whimpers until eventually became completely silent from listening to Leonardo's melody. Splinter smiled proudly as he watched Enzo's eyes slowly close from his big brother's singing. When Leonardo sang the last verse, the human baby was fast asleep.

Mikey and Donnie stared at their older brother, dumbfounded.

"Woah, Leo, how did you know?" asked Mikey.

"It's the same song sensei would sing us if we were ever sad or scared. I figured it would work on Enzo too," said the young leader.

"That was very thoughtful of you, my son," said Master Splinter.

"Teacher's pet," grumbled Raphael from the corner.

With Lorenzo finally back to sleep, the little turtle gave him back to the rat who placed the human back in his crib. Everyone crept out of Enzo's room to go back to sleep.

Raphael took a moment to look back at the human infant in the crib. Even though he found Enzo annoying, he could not help but feel sorry for the little guy. After all, Splinter told them his real mother was murdered. Who would do such a terrible thing, and leave the baby in a fire? Raph hated to admit it, but Mikey was right at times when he called Enzo cute. Regardless, the hot-headed turtle shook the thought out of his head and marched back to his room.

I apologize if this chapter is very short. Next time, we will be skipping ahead in time where Enzo is a little older and starts to be trained in the art of ninjutsu with his turtle brothers. Hope you all enjoyed this chapter. Feel free to leave a review about this chapter or what you think of the fanfic overall. Thank you so much for your patience and I hope you are enjoying your summer so far. Until next time!
