Chapter 8

Jaune stared out into the crowd of new students and teachers. He shifted back and forth in his seat nervously. Did he make it in, did he fail, he had so many questions and no idea what to expect.

He watched as Professor Ozpin walked up to the stage in front of everyone. He spoke looking over the crowd "Thank you for your patience, you all have done well in your mission and are here today to be assigned to a team where you would work the best. We as teachers have evaluated your initiation and we have made a final decision. I will be announcing the teams and team leaders. He began to sound off names and people slowly began to sit with their respective teams.

Jaune finally heard a name he recognized. "Ruby Rose Long, Yang Xiao Long, Weiss Schnee, and Blake Belladonna, please come forward" They walked up to the stage and stood before the large crowd of people. Professor Ozpin spoke motioning to the four led by Ruby Rose Long"

Yang patted her sister on her back in congratulations, and was beaming at her younger sister. Ruby looked almost as anxious as himself. Professor Ozpin said some words to Ruby as she walked up onto the stage and she nodded her head. Jaune could see Weiss storm off back to her seat ignoring Ruby as she went to say hi.

Jaune waited hoping that he passed. "Jaune Arc, Nora Valkyrie, Lie Ren, and Pyrrha Nikos Please come up to the stage." Jaune walked up slowly when he heard his name. He clenched his hands and gulped. The professor looked at him and nodded his head. Jaune paled and was even more worried now. Ozpin laughed and then spoke up. Led by Jaune Arc. He could feel his teammates pat his back in congratulation. Jaune chuckled and walked back down.

"Good Job Jaune I knew you could do it," Pyrrha said to Jaune as he sat down.

Jaune smiled, feeling ready for whatever was going to be coming his way.

Jaune stared at his dorms and took a deep breath looking at the room he and Ren were assigned. He knocked on the door. The door swung open. The person that opened the door was about the same height as Jaune. He chuckled "Names Cardin," he said, putting out his hand with a snarky grin.

"Jaune" He said going to shake his hand but Cardin pulled it back before he could. "Ha just kidding" he said, then grabbing Jaune's hand and squeezing as hard as he could, crushing it.

"Ow" Jaune said in surprise, shaking his hand loose "I am surprised they let someone so wimpy into Beacon. Cardin said laughing. The other student in the room began to laugh as well.

"You are someone who is very weak," Ren said bluntly. There was a silence for a moment, Jaune gulped and he felt as if he could hear a pin drop. He looked at Ren surprised. Ren didn't say much since they met in the forest during initiation. Ren was very quiet, at least that was what Jaune thought.

"What did you just call me?" Cardin said, now very angry.

Ren ignored him and went to unpack his things.

Cardin, seeing he wasn't getting a reaction, left the room. "Come on guys, let's get a different room. I don't want to room with these losers." Three other students quickly followed. Cardin slammed the door as he left.

Jaune laughed surprised. "You're pretty brave." Jaune said feeling bad that he had made an assumption about Ren when they first met.

"It is the truth, if you are trying to bring someone else down, it means that you have already fallen"

Jaune was surprised at the sudden wisdom, "I hope we don't have to run into him again." Jaune said. He began to unpack everything getting ready for school. Jaune was excited thinking about what was going to happen.

"Grimm, prowlers of the night and rulers of darkness." Professor Port, the one teaching the class, was older and had a large round belly. He seemed to be the type that loved to talk. Jaune was having difficulty focusing simply because this was one of the last classes for the day. He was starting to get tired from all of the introductions.

Professor Port spoke up again "I am sure you are all aware but it won't hurt to ask. What do you all think we will be learning?

Weiss raised her hand quickly. "We will be studying the origins of Grimm, patterns, and behaviors in order to understand more fully when we encounter them in the field Sir."

"Ah, Weiss, thank you so much for that detailed explanation." Professor Port smiled happy that someone was paying attention this late in the day. He pointed to the chalkboard and began to explain more. This planet is filled with Grimm and there have been many kingdoms that offer protection from Grimm; the four most prominent are Vale, Mantle, Vacou, and Atlas as well as other small territories scattered around Remnant.

It is the duty of Huntsman, to protect the world from the threats that surround us. Huntsman can have a variety of different roles. There are some that focus on the police force, or those that fight the Grimm. This class will help you learn about the Grimm that you may encounter as you begin your journey as a huntsman. Even those that do not focus on fighting it is still important to learn about Grimm.

Professor Port paused and looked at each student "Be careful because the Grimm are not to be underestimated, you will easily lose your life if you are not prepared."

The entire class was silent, taking in what he said.

Jaune knew personally how dangerous Grimm could be. He had frequently fought Beewolves when he was learning how to fight with Frank.

Professor Port quickly ended the class and everyone began to clean up.

Jaune quickly began to leave, moving towards the library.

"What did you think of that class?" Pyrrha asked Jaune curiously.

Jaune paused, comparing it to how his school was back home. "Beacon is very different compared to back home," Jaune said without thinking.

"Where are you from?" Pyrrha asked. "I am from Argus, a small town in Mistral."

Jaune began to panic "I am from around here, I think"

"Are we doing a team introduction and our team name now?'' Nora jumped in between the two excitedly. I think the team should be named flower power. Or maybe Sloth, or Pancakes.

Ren jumped in. "Nora, I think you are hungry." Nora stopped and imagined a large plate of pancakes distracted by her stomach.

Pyrrha looked to Jaune and laughed

"I was just heading to the library, we could go there" Jaune said, glad for the distraction.

"I will bring the pancakes,'' Nora said as she began to run but Ren grabbed her before she could.

"Food isn't allowed in the Library Nora"

"I knew that"

Jaune followed Ren as he walked to the library with Nora following quickly behind.

Nora grabbed as much paper as she could and began to doodle different Idea's she had for team names. Without looking up from her paper, she introduced herself "Ren and I are from Kuroyuri, we have been friends since forever" Nora said excitedly.

"My semblance is Electricity, I can zap stuff and Ren's is Cloaking. He can make things invisible.

"I can conceal multiple presences, making things harder to notice." Ren said, explaining in more detail what he could do.

Pyrrha felt like it was her turn "I can control metal to a certain degree with my mind." Jaune looked amazed, and looked at her with amazement. "So you are like Magneto from Xmen." Jaune said, impressed.

"What is your semblance Fearless leader?" Nora asked, looking up from her doodles curious.

Jaune shrugged "I, don't know mine yet"

Pyrrha nodded "I am sure you will be able to find it soon. It is understandable considering everything."

Jaune nodded. "I hope so"

"Hey can I look at your Ideas for Team names?" Jaune said curious about the ideas Nora had

"Sure" She said, handing Jaune the small stack of papers she had done in the short time.

"Jaune held up the first one that caught his attention."

"I think this is it," Jaune said, holding it up to show his team.

Pyrrha nodded, I like it.

I had some ideas for the team names but wanted to ask and see what everyone wanted
