A/N: I think i should warn you that the chapters from now on are going to be kinda long. This is just how they came out although I edit them before updates. In this chapter there's mainly Noblesse characters and how they cope with the whole situation. More to come in later chapters.

Also there is a short story I wrote called "Is there anybody listening?" which could be the opening of this story but somehow I didn't put it here. Check it out if you will.

Chapter 3: The sky is upside-down

"We are going to have a guest" Tao announced.

His face was serious but it didn't feel like a situation where the mentioned "guest" was a threat.

"A guest for diner or a guest that we should clash heads with?" asked Takeo.

"A guest for staying. Apparently boss found someone that could be useful to the search for sir Raizel; but they seem to be in bad health and in lack of correct using of their abilities, so he says that here is the best he can send them to. He said more will be said when we go there."

"There, like the place where Frankenstein is?"

"Yes M, there. We have to go to him, to take the supposed guest. Well boss says that one of us should be enough. There are no apparent dangers. I vote for Takeo to go" he said the last sentence a little more cheerfully as he raised his right hand in the air while his other was typing the last details for the trip.

"Huh? Why me?"

"Well, if – and that is a big 'if'- we have a problem here, I believe it is preferable to have someone with middle rage attacks to cover more likelihoods. Plus what if M goes there and loses his temper with the new one? We don't know what kind of type they are"

"Hey! I am right here, and stop saying it like I have a really big problem!" said M-21 half jokingly.

"Huh…I see your point. This could turn ugly, especially if up on air" Takeo said trying to keep his giggle.

"What, you too?" M-21 said annoyed but he got the joke.

"Can't you go, Tao?"

"Are you offering to handle this work?" he asked as he showed the documents on the desk. He was sure he made his point- judging by the faces he got, he sure did.

"Alright then, I will go. So then, excuse me but the not so suitable for emergencies long range knight has to go" said Takeo with a hint in his voice as he turned to go and prepare.

"Aw… Come on Takeo… I didn't say that!" Tao was trying to smooth it out. They were always teasing each other, this was no exception.

Reaching the door Takeo turned to Tao and told him with a grin in his face.

"You do know though, that now you are stuck with his cooking, right?"

Before Tao could react and call him back Takeo left. Chuckling he heard M-21 saying in the distance "What's wrong with my cooking?"

Poor Tao; M-21 always puts too much spice in the food.

Lukedonia…The Kertia Clan Leader's office

If one could count the sighs heard in that room the last couple of days, they would count approximately six hundred.

That was currently the state Rael Kertia was in; anxious. Lukedonia, stable enough given the circumstances, was not doing as good as it would have with the Lord of the Nobles to guide them and work as an anchor – a form of stability and an eternal constant. And Rael, just like the other clan leaders, was to lift part of the burden and the extra responsibilities that came with the situation. But that wasn't the only reason why he was taking all the oxygen in the room with his sighs every time he got there; it was because his other concerns were weighting him too.

He thought of the loss of the Noblesse recently. Even he, that wasn't as close to him, was affected by it; he could not fathom what it was like for Seira. Even though he was practically buried in duties, he would still think of her from time to time. Actually it would be even more than before and he couldn't lie that occasionally – that translated to 'very rarely'- he did think about Regis' condition too. He would be lying if he said he hadn't got used of the little runt.

But now was not time for sentimentalities. The work of a clan leader was not easy, and he had to be worthy of his brother's trust and previous reign. Oh, how he missed his brother in times like this. He remembered how he used to cause him trouble with his childish and stubborn behavior… Things were not ideal back then but at least…

He found himself getting off of the chair and turning the knob of the door, turning around and in a few moments getting outside the small mansion he chose to live in. His people didn't even notice. Well, he wasn't the leader of the Kertia Clan for nothing. Even as young as he was, he faced some challenges already. His step was light, his breath barely audible, his mind focused. He finally reached the famous Loyard garden. Those roses were legendary for their color and long-levity. He then hesitated to pass through the front door. What if she had responsibilities to attend to? He didn't want to make her uncomfortable…he just wanted to see her. He frowned at his self's ridiculous dilemma. A clan leader would indeed be very busy at this time and he should…

"Rael? What are you doing here?" Regis was standing next to him and was having a very weird expression on his face; like he was questioning the fact that Rael was standing in front of the gates rather than being inside the habitation of the Loyard clan's leader.

"Regis" he said with a distain used to cover his comfort at the fact that they were in the first name basis. He had to keep face after all. "I was just passing by and stood to admire the roses" 'Well that is a lame excuse' he thought to himself.

"Hmm, is that so?" Regis looked as if he didn't believe him at all, but appearances were appearances. "And how did you find them roses then? Are they to your liking?"

"Yes, as beautiful as ever" So maybe this was time to make his leave before he made an even bigger fool of himself in front of Regis of all people! "Well, Regis, my stroll is over anyways. I have to go back to my duties so-"

"If I may be so bold and interrupt you, why don't you come inside, dear Rael? You look like you could use some tea…and good company" The way he said it made Rael think of Gejutel. It was weird but also expected as Regis was learning from him.

"Even though I know that you are very close with the Leader of the Loyard Clan, as it is you are close by blood, don't you think it is exceptionally rude to make an invitation into someone else's house? I'm sure your grandfather had taught you better than that" There he had him.

Regis' face didn't show any sign of offence but rather a slight satisfaction accompanied with an even slighter smile.

"You have right, he did teach me better. The invitation is not mine after all. Seira saw you from the windows looking lost and alone and thought it good to invite you inside. I was there and thought of welcoming you in her stead. You are free to decline if you wish" the young Landegre said as he was passing him and getting inside.

Rael felt both embarrassment and joy; and maybe a little bit of fury for Regis' tactics to ridicule him. Still he had to regain his composure.

"Ah, of course I will accept Miss Seira's invitation at any day, how could I not?" he followed after Regis.

As they entered the room Seira was already there with the pot steaming and the cups ready to be served. Regis got in first, followed by Rael who couldn't help but thank her in an official manner for her invitation.

They all drank their tea in silence. Silence was usually a comfortable thing amongst Nobles – with the exception of Karias of course. Silence provided and excellent opportunity to feel each other's auras without intruding too much. It was more like a mutual recognition of the person they had opposite to them. After about an hour of complete silence Seira spoke.

"Things do not look that well" the sadness in her eyes was evident, and it sorrowed Rael so much.

"That is a fact Seira, but what can we do other than strife for balance?"

"Regis, I have a feeling that nothing is at an end. We may have to be against situations that are yet to come."

"Do you have a feeling? Or are you worried about it?"

Seira looked out of the window. She thought then, that maybe she was the one who was feeling lost and maybe she desperately needed some company. Her negative attitude towards all that happened recently didn't help either.

"I miss the kids"

That's what Seira had thought. But it wasn't her who voiced it out loud. Rael was also looking outside, teacup in hand. Maybe she heard wrong.

"Rael, what are you saying?" Regis' face was stricken with surprise. Rael would never admit that he missed those kids, even if that was actually true. Was he doing it for Seira to notice him? No, that was low, even for someone as infatuated with Seira as Rael was.

"I admit. It's weird but I miss those clumsy, overly loud, little humans. They somehow didn't care for the world. They were more carefree than any one of us can ever be. Hmmm…maybe that is their charm after all" he said as he placed his cup on the table with the beautifully embroidered tablecloth on it.

"With what is done, I'm just happy that they at least got to forget the tragedies that happened" Regis sighed.

"But Regis, even if they don't remember, we do" said Seira with an uncharacteristically emotional voice.

"I know but it is what it is. We as Nobles do not help humans to be remembered. We do it because it's the right thing to do. Besides, Seira, it would have come to that sooner or later"

"I know that, and I was prepared for it. I wasn't prepared for this, though. His loss, affected us all" the sadness in her voice was undeniable.

"Frankenstein still searches-"

At that point, Rael stopped listening. It was obvious that the Noblesse was the medium of their encounter with the humans. But now, they all had to face the reality. Sir Raizel might have been attached to them humans because his life force dropped dramatically after many events, and he wasn't sure if he could even outlived those humans, so it somehow made sense. But the rest of them…He thought that it was obvious.

One of the reasons why many of the Nobles before their fathers' time were trying to pass the belief that it was not fruitful to interact with humans, was the inevitable bond some would create with them. Sometimes he thought that this was the reason why they were secluded from the outside world.

"Whether Frankenstein finds them or not it is irrelevant with the fact that some day we have to stop our attachments with the humans" Rael declared as he got up, ready to leave. The others stood up as the custom dictates.

"My dear Seira, I regret seeing you suffer because of that. As Regis said, we knew that this would come. I know that each one of us lost a blood relative when we least expected it. At least Seira, be glad that they are, hopefully, going to live their lives to the fullest with far less tragedies than our kin has had"

Rael's words did not contain anger or frustration. They were said as a teacher or guardian would say them to advise a kid not to get too close to fire.

Seira was listening to Rael with attention. He lost his brother so recently; he didn't even have time to mourn properly. He understood loss right now better than anyone. His train of thought was interesting.

"I'm sorry for this. I didn't mean to offend you Seira, I know that you actually love those kids very much, but it saddens me to see you suffer on that matter. I shall take my leave now. Seira. Regis." With a nod he opened the door and left.

After Rael closed the door he felt like he disappointed her. Wasn't he supposed to say positive words of encouragement?

His mind was thinking of the last few months that passed and the events that followed them. 'In the last couple of months I have been twirling a thought in my mind. Perhaps we are an anomaly in existence. It's a curse to live this long when death still exists either for your species or for others. I don't think that I can call the humans a different species. Maybe it's us who live way too long- ridiculously long- in regards to other species. Even the werewolves die sooner than us. Either all die or all live forever. Everything in between is painful, one way or the other.'

Were they cursed? Who knew? Maybe that was their mission; to exist that long as to always protect the humans which even if they were small in years, they were big in existence. He remembered that he read somewhere that many believed that there is more than this life. They called it eternal life. 'All live forever huh?'

He shook his head. He failed to impress Seira once more with his existential theories. It was pointless he thought. He didn't know anything a little while ago and now that he became clan leader he was starting to think like this? He had other things to attend to. He just hoped that he hadn't done too much damage.

As soon as Rael disappeared of sight, Seira turned to Regis.

"What do you think? In a way, I believe he sounded…reasonable"

Regis sighed "I think that too. And that is what frightens me. If it has come to Rael sounding reasonable, I don't know what to expect anymore"

Seira looked out of the window. Her teacup lay on the table, forgotten. She saw his point of view, but deep down…

"Yui once told me about movies and plays. In every story the audience needs to see the characters finding the end of their journey. Whether it is the reward of any kind or the punishment of them, she said there needs to be a closure; the feeling that it's something that made its circle as in the storyline"

"What has this to do with anything?"

"I think, in a way that's what we need. Closure. A last goodbye that we didn't get to say because we were too afraid of it. The Noblesse may be found but, I think it's really time to wrap things up regarding the children. I want to see them one last time. We left too hurriedly"

"I don't think it is the same as plays Seira" Regis doubted that a lot actually.

"Yes, you have right. But it would be nice to see them again"

"I cannot argue with that"

And silence covered the room again.

Late at night…At the ex-storage of the Union

The sensors picked up the chopper, and then the radio communication was on, lastly came the sound of it. Takeo was here. Frankenstein felt relief and dread in the same time. He would get that distraction out of his hair for a little while but at the same time, an unknown person would be around his…family? Well, it sure felt like it. At least the last time they all had a decent time to get together, just having fun. He was way too tired to think of the technicalities. They cared about each other and that was enough for now.

"Hello, Boss" said Takeo when he got over the helicopter. Frankenstein was waiting for him outside. Takeo felt good seeing him again.

"Takeo, how are you?" he would lie if he said that he didn't miss him. He missed all of them.

"I'm good. Came here as soon as Tao explained the situation, which wasn't much of an explanation as you didn't give us much"

"Yes, I wanted to tell you in person. Make sure you relate everything I will tell you to them" he paused before he continued. "How are…things back home?"

"Well, the school is fine, all the students and teachers are alright. Tao takes care of most of things, you should ask him-"

"That's nice but I'm not talking about the school Takeo and you know it. Now tell me, how are Tao and M-21?"

Takeo sighed. Frankenstein sure was looking agitated but you could see that deep down he really wanted to know if they were doing alright.

"They are fine, given the circumstances. Tao is constantly whining about the paperwork and the policy you had about the headmaster's signature. Thankfully I'm there to keep him from shutting it all down. He drives me so nuts, I think I will shove my bullets to my ears to stop listening to his complaints" he saw Frankenstein smile a little bit and continued.

"M is…himself mostly. He detaches himself from many conversations from time to time. I know that from any moment he will have to lash out all this tension. Don't worry though Boss, we will make sure it's inside the training rooms… hehehe"

"I wonder what is going on inside his head sometimes. Quite frankly, I don't even know if I want to know" Frankenstein didn't know if he would like to see what that man had been through.

The air suddenly became thick and Takeo thought to go back to the burning matter; the reason why he was there.

"So this…person…what are they?"

"Huh…Either a very good asset or a real nuisance" was Frankenstein's deadpan answer. As they were walking inside he noticed a traveling bag in Takeo's hand.

"What is that?"

"Oh! I forgot, this is for you. Nothing much, just a couple of trousers, shirts and blazers. Shocks too; Tao insisted. Ah! And M thought you might want your reading glasses so he put them in too"

Frankenstein felt that rare warming in his heart but didn't let it show. It was a nice change of emotions nonetheless, he had to admit.

"Well, how thoughtful, thank you"

"Well, now, would you mind telling me about…?"

"Yes. Before we go see her you must know some things"

Later on the helicopter to Korea…

Takeo took a short moment to look at his co-passenger that was sleeping in the back. He wasn't sure what to make of the situation. Apparently Boss thought that she would be able to help a great deal in finding what happened of Raizel thanks to her weird kind-of psychic-but-not-really abilities. He couldn't understand it, but he reasoned that she would be able to connect with others' energy as she called it and…find them? He shook his head. It was pointless to try and understand some things; like Frankenstein's powers, Raizel's weird obsession over ramen, Tao's fascination of coloring his nails, M's addiction to spicy food…and perhaps this girl's abilities.

Despite everything, Takeo thought himself a simple man. If Boss thought that she was safe enough and important enough to be taken in his home, he was alright with it. Still…such a young girl…he reminded him of… 'No, that woman wasn't my sister! I sorted that out!'

With a last glance at her, he remembered Frankenstein's directions: "Try to make her comfortable but also not to come to a physical contact with her. We still don't know the capacity of her abilities. Let her get her strength back and sometime later I will come too, for some checking"

If nothing else, Takeo thought that it was going to be interesting. The helicopter was flying pretty high now. In a few hours they would be home.

in the data room of the storage facility...

"Say Frankenstein, those modified humans, they are…you care for them, huh?" Haji asked hesitantly.

"I suppose so" Frankenstein wasn't sure where this question was going, so he chose to be pretty generic and distant about it.

"Then, why did you send Sara to live with them? Are you not afraid that she might…harm them? I mean, I know that those humans are capable of so much more, since you took care of them…"

"Let me put it this way. I would never put them in unnecessary danger, even though I know they can fight for their lives pretty well. Nevertheless, Sara is weak now so she won't be able to do many things for a while; and even if that wasn't the case…" he got quiet at that point. He wasn't sure if he should say that to Haji. The man hadn't revealed too many things about himself either. "I warned her about it and I'm sure she understood the predicament she was in" and with that he went quiet again.

But Frankenstein didn't tell Haji the whole story…

"I am going to send you to my home actually. There are some people who live in it. I will be straight about it; if you do anything to harm them, I will make sure that you suffer. I don't care what you can do, if you harm them with any way possible, it will not end well for you" his voice was dripping with seriousness and a darker emotion, Sara wasn't sure of.

"Are they…your family?"

"Yes. They are…they are going to ensure that you are going to have your strength back"

She looked at him in the eye, which Frankenstein thought either too brave or too naïve of a thing to do when he was emanating such a vibe.

"I won't hurt your family Frankenstein, especially if they are there to take care of me and not hurt me"

"I give you my word on that. They are not going to use you or hurt you like the people in the Union did. They are, after all, in the same boat as you"

"You mean…"

"People used by Union, existing only to be discarded when they were no longer useful to them" his face was getting darker as he was saying those words.

"Frankenstein. I will treat them as I would treat my own family"

He rarely heard of someone saying those words. One would not say that if they didn't mean it. He believed her then. That's why he actually sent her to Korea; because his boys deserved nothing less. That, and because of the fact that being around her sometimes decreased the voices' intensity inside his head and for once since four months ago, he could hear his own thoughts clearer. He didn't want to delve too deep into what that meant but he was sure that it was very valuable information.

To be continued...

A/N: So, how do you like it so far? Thing is I'm kinda new to this type of writing and this platform so somethings... I'm still figuring them out, like the lining and stuff...mostly technicalities...

So...can you guess which characters are going to come in the next chapters?
