Chapter 12: Connecting the dots

…South Korea…Frankenstein's house…

She was asleep apparently. She left the bathroom without them noticing and now was sleeping like a baby in her room. Bart checked.

Tao was showing Frankenstein the footage of the day Bart and Sara almost started a fight in the living room. To his boss' credit, he didn't even flinch when he saw Takeo shoot the ceiling. But what grabbed his attention was the moment when her energy – or aura, as Gejuntel had suggested – appeared on her hands.

"Fascinating" he said "It truly looks familiar to the way the Dark Spear's energy spreads. I would have expected something more akin to the Agvain's kind of aura manipulation but…she is not a Noble exactly"

Takeo was preparing breakfast. He wondered if he should leave some for Sara too. After some thought, he kept some pancakes on the side of the counter in a small plate. He would have liked to ask her opinion on his pancakes. He was really proud of them.

Bart was looking at Frankenstein "How are you?" he asked compassionately.

Frankenstein knew. He anticipated the question form Bart. The others stopped what they were doing and looked at him. He knew it inevitable.

"Quite honestly I am tired" he said with a small sigh.

"Hmm it shows" said Bart with a neutral tone.

Frankenstein raised an eyebrow at that and his face was between murder and boredom which Tao found hilarious.

Takeo interrupted "How about we eat some breakfast and then relax a little bit. I think we should follow Sara's example and sleep a little"

Tao was already jumping in the chair still holding his laptop in one hand.

"Tao…" said Takeo frustrated.

"What?"

"No technology on table" Frankenstein was ready to answer as he sat on the table "Aren't you coming Bart?"

"Yeah, yeah"

"By the way, you are doing the dishes"

"Tsk, why is it always me?"

The pancakes were delicious.

'Frankenstein…Are…you…there?' Was this a dream? An illusion? He couldn't tell anymore but he really didn't want it to stop. Was he losing the grasp on reality again?

'Is everyone alright?' He suddenly opened his eyes and his whole body shook with the realization that this was definitely not a dream.

He grabbed the rail of the balcony, where he currently was, in order to steady himself. He thought a little fresh air was going to do him good and slowly his mind started closing the outside world and focusing on his Master. He still couldn't find the bond; as if it wasn't there. But then…how could he hear that voice?

The others had gone to sleep for a couple of hours with the exception of Tao who couldn't stop typing and searching. Seriously this kid had to find a hobby. How did his eyesight not get affected? 'Look at me worrying over them like a mother hen' he smiled to himself.

"Boss?" Tao had approached him in the balcony "Ermm is it a bad moment?" he said as he took a good look on his boss.

"What is it Tao?"

"Third elder and I have been contacting for a while now and we found something interesting about the diary you found"

"Yes?"

Tao showed the living room, where the laptop was "He is on an online call, care to join us?"

"Sure" As he was walking he remembered something he should have told them "Tao, tell this to the rest too; the Third Elder's name is Haji. I believe we should stop calling him by his…previous status"

"Oh yeah…I think you have mentioned that some time ago. I didn't get to ask you who Haji was at the time but we kind of figured it out on our own. Bart was kind of disturbed at the time you know?"

At that Frankenstein raised his eyebrow "Really? How so?"

"Well, back then even the Third Elder had an actual identity and he still was M-21 after all" he stood a couple of meters before they got to the laptop "He was bothered by the fact that we hadn't found anything about his identity, even though he was trying hard not to show it. I am glad he found some answers" he said as he moved to the laptop's camera.

Frankenstein didn't say anything and just followed Tao "Haji, what news is there?"

Haji, ever stoic as he appeared on camera, said without missing a beat "I have been looking at the diary and I believe that we neglected something of importance; the dates of the entries. I asked Tao to confirm my suspicions"

Tao just nodded "Yes, we were focusing so hard on the names and events mentioned that we almost forgot the dates. Look boss" he turned the screen where Haji's window got smaller and a calendar appeared.

Frankenstein took a good look. He remembered that many of the events of the diary took place at similar times of the war with the Union but…now that he knew more things about her…

There were three sets of dates checked. One with green color, one blue and one yellow. He understood what had happened then. The green ones were the events regarding the war with the Union three and a half months ago; the yellow one was when he found Sara at the storage and the blue ones…

"Tao told me of what you found at Lukedonia and I think it is crucial to our search that we have to look at the facts once again" said Haji.

Frankenstein didn't show that he listened. He was looking at the dates and simultaneously at the scanned diary pages. How had he missed that?

The first date of the diary was not that important, it just showed that the war was reaching the helping stuff. Two weeks later the medical stuff was informed that they were going to be transferred but apparently they didn't know about Sara yet. It was when he defeated the First Elder.

Now that he was looking at it again, it did look like it was orchestrated by someone anticipating the mess that the war brought. Still the nurse that had written the diary mentioned that she was doing trivial things like taking blood and such. They were given directions about not get in touch with her. That went on for a week or so.

Until the entries of August 14th and August the 15th came in.

Frankenstein saw that it was a little before everything happened. Several of the fights were happening during those days and according to the diary, Sara was somehow in a very edgy mood that was unexplainable – if you didn't know what was happening in the outside world. Did Sara know? The scientists left the facility for an 'emergency'. But that was weird as everyone at the time was abandoning the Union, not getting closer to the cyclone's eye. He frowned.

"It was planned" he muttered.

"What did you say boss?"

"Look at the date of this entry… She writes that the scientists left for a supposed emergency… but I believe that if they actually wanted to abandon the Union they just would have said so…They wouldn't care what the lower stuff thought of it…And if nothing else, look what she is writing 'The head scientist was with them and it looked like he was excited, like he was waiting it to happen, that emergency' I don't think she was wrong to think that"

And then the fateful day… When it all happened; when he lost his Master for a second time. The final day of the war.

Haji was thinking 'Was there actually someone else who was planning on taking advantage of the First's fall and the Union's crumbling down?'

"Haji, what do you know of this?"

"It looked strange to me too but more so the fact that they came back for her, five days after the events. The whole Union was in crumbles. Shouldn't they have fled? What where they doing all those days?"

Frankenstein's mind was running way too fast but Tao's was faster at that point "They were regrouping…Or perhaps they were gathering the useful pieces of a fallen Union…"

"To build a new one" finished Haji.

Frankenstein was not thinking of that though…August the 20th …that very day they had already planned what they would have been doing with her, regardless of the victor of the war…Or not? They took her out of the storage…To do what with her? Fight? No…Nobody saw her on the field…They didn't use her for that…But then again what was exactly her use to them? What where her abilities?...She didn't resist them…did she go willingly?

"Boss?"

Frankenstein broke out of his trance and looked at Tao. The little one looked worried to Frankenstein "I was thinking what they actually did with her when they took her…It looked like she didn't resist at all but we don't know if they drugged her or not"

"Yeah…we have to know what they did with her…They had her for six days"

"If I may Tao…six days are enough to regroup if you know who and what to look for. If there are people who were planning taking advantage of the situation…then…maybe…" said Haji through the screen but didn't dare to finish his sentence.

"Frankenstein…Could it be?"

"They brought her back though…why? She was in a comatose…They just tossed her there" Frankenstein couldn't understand what was doing on but from the looks of it the plan was not thought thoroughly or executed as finely as they wanted to. Some of them might have wanted to take advantage of the situation but they didn't anticipate the mess…Or they didn't anticipate Frankenstein.

It was written in the diary that they wanted to come back at some point but he guested that it might all have gone down the drain and the plan was never completed…Fools…he despised people like Crombel...they were really soiling the name of the scientists. And now these bunch of morons…They left her there…All alone…

"I think that they had planned exactly what you said Haji…And they achieved it up until they returned her to the storage…but you, Tao and I had checked everything in the Union both physically and through the computers…There was nothing there"

"So much nothing…that it was suspicious"

"Yes…Tao tell the others to be in alert. Double the shifts and now that I am here be more concentrated in security matters than paperwork…I think we should be cautious until we learn more from Sara."

"How is it going with her by the way?" asked Haji out of curiosity.

"She hates scientists apparently…And boss is one…"

"Tao…"

Yep that was the 'I'm-tired-and-lethal' kind of tone of Frankenstein Tao thought "Hehehe…" he laughed nervously "Sorry boss but…Isn't that the case though?"

Frankenstein sighed. Tao was not completely wrong. And now that they discovered these new clues he was worrying how to approach her after the revelation of her immense abhorrence of scientists.

"Errmm I say we stop here for a little while" said Tao as he saw that Frankenstein was probably having too much to think now "After all it is a dead end if we don't know what Sara can do and what she did back then"

Haji agreed "That's right; I will do some digging around some other files of the Union to see if I can find anything. Perhaps, it will also guide us to the Noblesse"

"Good thought. Contact us when you have any news"

"Will do so Tao"

The screen got black, save for the marked calendar that was showing the events. Frankenstein was already having plans for Sara but he understood that she couldn't be the only matter in his life that got his attention. He had to go back to school and make sure that it was functioning just like his Master would have wanted.

"Tao, tell Bart and Takeo to come here"

"Yes Boss"

…in a high-tech facility…

"They are searching the files again"

"It has been some time since the last time they did that"

Someone was smiling "Looks like this time they actually know where to look though. As expected by that man"

"But sir, what if they manage to find out-

"And what? They should be feeling blessed we managed to get the situation under control. Who knows what kind of extra trouble they would have if it wasn't for us to keep the public misguided?!"

Nobody answered. Silence was deafening.

"If it wasn't for that place…Who would have known they would go camping in that place? They definitely found her…"

"That…isn't that bad though gentlemen" he said with a smile "Maybe…it's time to hit two birds with one stone"

"Did you all understand?"

Takeo was still skeptical "Wait, so there is a connection of Sara's confinement and Sir Raizel's disappearance?"

Tao was drinking from a juice box "Well, more like there's a chance that is the case"

"What are you thinking Frankenstein?"

"I'm thinking of the best way to find my Master. Right now the only one I can think of, is training Sara to get back to her full potential"

They all agreed that it was the best course of action right now. If anything else they had lost precious time up until now.

Frankenstein turned to the older of his boys "Bart wake her up and everyone meet me down the training room"

"Alright"

To his big surprise Sara was not complaining when he woke her up or when he told her to come down to the training room. She barely said two words as she followed him in the special elevator that was leading to the lab and eventually to the training room.

In there, the rest of the people of the household were waiting for them. Frankenstein was focusing on her and was trying to understand if there was any evidence of her energy. But nothing indicated that she was using it.

At the same time he was desperately trying to detect any similarities she might have with Urokai.

He wasn't lying when he said to Gejuntel that she didn't look like him. Sure she was light colored, had a red hue in her hair color but…she was lacking the red eyes, the tall figure, the aura of a noble, the abilities of a Noble. How was it that the ability to manipulate and detect aura had surfaced and not mind control or telepathy? 'No, she doesn't look like them at all. If nothing else I look more like a Noble than she does!'

She looked rather beat he noticed and then he remembered how their previous conversation had ended.

"How are you Sara?" he asked more out of curiosity than caring.

"I'm fine"

"What about the nosebleed you suddenly had?"

She tiredly sighed as she simultaneously rolled her eyes "It's nothing really. It happens sometimes if I'm too tired, stressed or I'm out under the sun for too long" 'Although that one hasn't happened in the last century'

"If you'd like I could…"

"No" was her immediate answer.

Bart was heard sighing "Stubborn woman" but nobody said anything else.

Frankenstein was doubtful though. He was eager to find his Master again but could he really push her today that she apparently was so stressed?

"So why did you bring me here?"

Oh yes…He wanted to wipe that bored expression out of her face "To see some of the extent of your abilities. That way we will be able to train together with you so that you go back to full power in order to find my Master; because do not forget Sara, you promised me you would help me"

"I did. I do not forget my debts, be sure of it. Besides I was suspecting that this was the case this time anyway. And since I denied you any biological access to my body, it's only fair that you get to see them in action, right?"

"Precisely" he said without missing a beat.

The rest of them were watching and they could already feel the atmosphere getting more electrified. Chills were starting to run down Tao's spine and Takeo was having an irrational need to be touching his guns.

Bart was looking interested and for some reason he couldn't understand he was really eager to get his turn into testing her abilities. Maybe it had something to do with him wanting to get back to her for that slap the other day at the living room. Even though he was shocked at the time, he would gladly take her on this time.

"What are the rules?" asked Sara.

"Not hitting too hard, do not try to kill, not delicate areas and do not get too tired"

She was listening as she answered "Uh-huh" and she added "Oh maybe I should tell this, more for my sake"

"Which is?"

"My body is very vulnerable when I don't channel my energy through it. You might want to not hit me before I start…otherwise there is a chance you will…kill me"

Frankenstein just smiled as he said "Okay…do not worry. I am sure the guys will be careful enough"

Sara raised an eyebrow "And you?"

"Yeah…" he nodded "Me too…of course"

She wasn't fully convinced but then again what other choice did she have? She made a deal with the scientist and she would keep her promise. At what cost though?

"So" said Frankenstein as he walked to the middle of a very enforced looking room "shall we begin?"

We are starting to go in the direction of the searching once again. Stay tuned for the next chapter as there is some action going on. I could have put it in this one but it would eventually be way too long so i had to cut it here.
