A/N: Hello! So the final stage of the rescue begins! But it doesn't end in this chapter. This chapter has some cuts to show different parties at the same time and as the time progresses. But I believe it's going to be alright. Thank you to those who continue reading this story and a special thank you to those you are following and favouring it!
As always I don't own the "Noblesse" just my original characters and this story.
Edit 28/2/22: I made some minor grammatical fixing. Nothing that affects the story.
Chapter 19: Secret weapons
The line went dead. The wind was mercilessly licking her face. She closed her phone.
"See you there Frankenstein" she said to no one and she jumped off the hill to continue her journey. Hopefully two hours head start would do.
They all felt it. The whole neighborhood felt it but it was only those five that understood what happened. Frankenstein's aura was almost beyond control. Karias and Seira were the first to feel it and the rest followed soon after. They all got to the corridor that was leading to the labs, feeling in their skin the sinister palpitations of the dark power.
"What happened? An enemy?" asked Tao alerted even though a little groggily.
"Everyone stay back. I'm going there first" said Karias with a voice that left no room for debate.
The attitude came from the fact that he could feel that this sudden explosion wasn't because of an enemy attacking. Frankenstein must have lost control on his own. Karias was sure of it. He guessed the stress of the last months must finally have caught up to the scientist and without his Master by his side to tame his demons…well it was going to be difficult.
So as an elder of them all, he was going there to try and reason with Frankenstein, for his aura, dark and menacing as it was, felt still controllable. Or at least Karias wanted to think. Was he being optimistic again?
As Karias got down to the labs and pushed the panel to open the door, he saw, to his horror, that the smaller lab, the one that was used for finding sir Raizel, was melting away…
Every surface was rapidly deteriorating as dark aura was extending everywhere. The place where Frankenstein was standing on was almost completely corrupted, with dark matter surrounding him.
His hands were consumed by said matter and his eyes looked way too feral for his liking. His hair looked like it was floating around the pressure the aura was causing to the air around him. Karias was hoping he wouldn't have to fight the man in that state.
He got closer, brave in the heart and sharp in the mind "Frankenstein"
The other man turned slightly to look at the Noble a little bit better. Right now he was battling inside his mind, not only to calm himself but also the beasts that were threatening to take advantage of his rage.
He had to calm down. If the hell inside him was to take him over, he would never be able to find his Master and…he could've hurt everyone in the house. No, he didn't want that. He didn't want to fight them…He didn't want to hurt them…he didn't want to…kill them…
{Kill them! Kill them all!}
{Betrayal! Revenge!}
Family…
What did you say Master?
Isn't all this, what it means, to have a family?
A family…his Master's family…his family.
He had to protect his family.
"Karias…" he said with difficulty but it showed that he was getting back the lost control.
"Yes?" Karias took a breath he didn't know he was holding.
Frankenstein was little by little taking control and was drawing imaginary lines in his mind for the shadows to keep away from.
{Argh! Damn you Frankenstein!}
{You pathetic human! You think you can keep defeating us forever?!}
'If I have to, I will!'
Suddenly the room felt easier to be in again. The mean aura spreading of Frankenstein's inner darkness was decreasing by the second until all that was left was the lingering feeling of maliciousness in the air.
"I have to apologize for that. I must've given you a fright"
"Not only me, but the others too. What happened?"
Frankenstein looked at the half-destroyed desk; the paper was still there, intact.
"We are going to take our people back Karias"
There were two ways up and down to the labs; stairs and elevator. Both run up the stairs, Frankenstein getting to Tao as soon as he saw the young man.
"Get me the place of these coordinates now!"
He didn't need to be told twice as he and all of them understood that something serious must have happened so he went to it immediately.
Tao found it. Frankenstein was watching as the screen showed a barren wasteland full of rocks and small hills. The satellite was not showing them anything else though.
"What, are we looking for Boss…if you don't mind me asking…"
"We are looking for anything that is a construction of any kind"
Frankenstein's tone was dripping with disciplined focus and determination.
"Well, it doesn't look like there is anything here…Wait, I will look for energy signs"
Tao typed as fast as he could. His eyes were focused. He was using several programs through satellite.
"Energy readings say…nothing as big that would suit to a building"
"Where is the biggest reading in that area?"
Tao scanned again in ten kilometers radius.
"The biggest is right in the middle were the coordinates say….but there is nothing there only a small hill at the end of the wastelands and after that is a forest"
The others were all behind the two, looking at them, expecting them to explain, but didn't dare to interrupt.
"Tao can you look underground? It might be the same as Crombel's base" said Takeo.
Fast typing and silence followed for a couple of minutes.
"Whoa…" was the only thing that was heard.
"What is it?" said Bart from behind.
"It's not just a construction Boss, it's…"
"It's a constituency of them"
The screen showed five facilities under the hill expanding in 2 kilometers length and half a kilometer depth. It was astonishing. There was never a blueprint, not even a mention of such a place in the Union's files-even the most classified ones. Tao was already sending this to Haji.
"What are we looking at Boss? Did we find them?"
Everyone was hanging by Frankenstein's answer.
"Yes…we did find them. Tao contact Gejuntel…the assembly is happening way earlier than we had imagined. Everyone in battle positions. We are leaving in ten minutes. Not waiting for anyone"
His voice was determined and everyone quickly went to prepare.
Everyone but one.
"Bart didn't you hear me?" said Frankenstein without much patience.
"How did you find him that easily? Did Sara find them?"
At Frankenstein's lack of answered Bart assumed that she did.
"She did, didn't she? Where is she now? Is she alright?"
Oh how Frankenstein dreaded to tell him the truth about her betrayal.
Lukedonia…Throne room…
Gejuntel had given word to the Nobles and the werewolves about the situation some time ago. As soon as they were contacted by Frankenstein about the urgency of the situation he called all the Clan leaders of Lukedonia.
"The search has been fruitful. The assembly will happen today. I've already sent word to the werewolves. Only one additional leader may leave to assist the others as we need to keep our home safe"
"I will stay, my abilities are in the service of the country's defense anyway" said the leader of the Mergas Clan, Ludis.
The ones that remained were the Tradio, Kertia and Landegre clan leaders.
"I'll stay too"' said Claudia "My fighting experience is very little and I don't think I would be much of assistance"
Gejuntel knew that it would come to this. He wanted his grandson to show responsibility to his home and his Lord but what if his interests clashed with the Kertia's ones? The young leader had a soft spot for the Loyard leader and he would surely want to see her again.
Regis though was so eager to go too, Gejuntel knew that already. As none of the two were talking he imagined that he had to come to the task to choose one.
"I will stay too sir" said Regis all of a sudden.
Gejuntel was surprised but he didn't let it show "Very well, Rael Kertia do you accept to go and assist the werewolves and the humans to the retrieval of our Lord?"
"Yes sir Gejuntel" he answered.
"Come with me, I will tell you the details of the appointment and you have to accompany the werewolves that are going to come with you"
Before he left with Rael though, he turned to Regis "Wait for after we finish. I have something to tell you"
Regis was surprised but kept his poised exterior neutral "Yes, sir Gejuntel" he said.
Werewolves' territory…
On a tree someone was sitting…Quietly she was looking at the dawn when she felt someone's presence.
"Garda"
She turned and saw Kentas.
"It's time to go. They found him"
She was ready.
The place where the construction was located, was under a wasteland that was formed by the drainage of the lake that used to be there in central Asia. Only a small southeastern part of the lake was saved. The place was perfect for his personal projects and thus, after the Union's fiasco with the Alphabet project he decided to take action and secretly build it without their knowing. He was spending every last cent and pulling every trustful string he could, to finally completely finish it when the war had begun and the Union was in turmoil.
While the First Elder was licking his wounds after his fight with Frankenstein, Conrad had already drained most of the Union's money and was creating his own bases and systems from the beginning hence updating everything to be ready for his plan. And his plan worked, thanks to project Red.
At the same time he was manipulating the media and internet in order to have them under his influence and erase some mistakes. He had to, if he wanted to correct Crombel's mistakes one day. Out of all the stupid things he could have done, he went and did the worst; revelation to the public…It was suicide. Such big were his thoughts of grandiose he supposed.
And then it was the stupidity of the Nobles'; admitting that they actually existed to the whole world.
It was so difficult to influence media and manipulate information in order for the public to be rest assured and go back to sleep again.
Better for them not to mess with what they couldn't understand.
As of now he was watching through the monitors…his guests were quietly sleeping. He was wondering for how long he could fool around Frankenstein with his fake alerts.
Kertia Rael was fast but he was surprised that the werewolves were already to the appointed meeting spot. He stopped, gave a slight, courteous bow and as soon as they did too, he explained the place they would have to go as much as the need to travel through certain areas in order to avoid contact with humans. Kentas and Garda both agreed and soon enough they all run fast, disappearing through the wind.
At the same time the human party had already began, with Frankenstein almost leaving all others behind. Twice had Karias to tell him to slow down, so the rest could catch up to him. Speaking of the rest, it was decided that Takeo and Tao would take the chopper so Tao would do most of the scanning and in case someone had to be carried back.
They were all in constant touch via earpiece, with Tao telling them every little detail about the readings. They would have to cross a lot of land to get there and Tao was making sure to deactivate any device or satellite that might have interfered and possibly mess with their cover. At least with their speed they knew that they would get there faster than ever. Thankfully Tao and Takeo had modified the chopper themselves about a month ago.
On the ground, Frankenstein was in the front, followed by Karias, Seira and Bart, the last of which looked way too focused and determined. Before they left Tao and Takeo saw him looking almost apathetic. When they asked him what was wrong he simply said "Nothing. I'm empting my mind in order to be ready" and when they asked Frankenstein where Sara was he said "Away. She is not of my concern anymore". Something had happened they knew but time was of essence and they barely had any at the moment.
"Two more hours, guys" was Tao's briefing.
Frankenstein sped up as if Tao's info was used as fuel. Karias simply answered "Thanks Tao". Everyone's nerves were on edge; but most of all, Frankenstein's, because he was feeling his Master's presence stronger than before. Was he feeling stronger? Or was it perhaps that she actually gave him the right coordinates?
…Somewhere in a construction…
"Sir, there has been a detection of an approaching presence near the lake. It looks like we are going to have them inside our area in a few minutes"
The tall, bulky man turned to the young assistant, away from the interior cameras "Is that so? Do we have a visual?"
"Not yet sir, only thermo-readings"
"On screen"
The young man did as he was told and soon the screen showed a singular entity coming at the lake construction fast. Conrad would recognize that physique anywhere. After all he spent the last 100 years around it. "Welcome back, Project Red"
"Sir?" asked the assistant curiously.
"It is Project Red. Funny how she managed to come all alone. How did she figure out the exact location? And it looks like she is not coming here just for a visit."
"What do you want us to do sir?"
"I must admit, I am way too curious to see what she is going to do…Watch her for now. Set the guards inside to be ready, the cameras too"
"But what about the outside? Should I set them ready there too?"
"No…I want her to come close. I want…to see what she will do"
The assistant nodded and left. If he could admit to himself he would think that Dr. Stumae was too curious for his own good.
Conrad was looking at the exterior cameras now. Soon she would appear. He wondered…how much had her powers developed…and what pray tell happened with Frankenstein? There didn't seem to be anyone else with her…So fascinating.
….200 meters outside the construction vicinity…
She started getting a little tired, soon she would stop running as fast. She didn't need to anyways. She was already there.
She remembered very little but she knew one thing; it was all under the big hill.
It wasn't a natural hill actually. It was man made in order to cover a large proportion of one of the facilities. Slowly she was jogging as she was already in a 100 meters radius. She thought it weird that she met no resistance. Someone as Conrad would not let a threat go by so easily…But then again maybe she was not one; at least that's what he could be thinking she figured.
A few more meters and she was there. How to enter though?
"Maybe, I'll knock the door" she said to herself.
From the onside Conrad was watching with undivided attention as he was watching one of his longest projects stand there healthy, albeit a little out of breath, and strong. One look in her face and he knew. She hadn't come here with good intentions.
Such a shame.
She circled the hill and found a small air duck. After all, one would require air to survive down there. She materialized her energy into her swords and attacked it. It made a loud noise at it was ripped apart and several alarms were heard at once.
"Humph... Maybe I knocked a little too hard" she said with a smile on her face. Somehow she was finding her vitality again. She jumped in and without losing time slashed everything she found in her way until she was inside one of the facilities. The corridors were empty for now and only the alarm and red lights were heard and seen but soon she knew that it was going to be swarmed with…
"Robots" she said annoyed. She heard them from afar. Time to get back to them for what they did to her and the school that night. Time for some fun.
"Release more guards but don't kill her. She looks like she had been worked on" such an amazing control over energy manifestation.
He had heard the Nobles could do that but…she never did much and certainly not for so long. He kind of regretted the fact that it wasn't him who had achieved that but considering who was treating her, he couldn't be mad for long.
A sinister smile was drawn on his lips. Oh how he would enjoy seeing his project reach new limits. A true mystery revealed in front of him. How lucky he was.
They were getting there in half an hour. Right now the chopper was about ten minutes behind them as Frankenstein was speeding even more. Writhing with anticipation he was almost slashing the ground with his speed. Behind him, three people were following him.
At some point Karias got near Bart. The poor fellow looked like he had locked everything in. Karias knew what had happened. He pushed Frankenstein for extra details while running.
And he was told. About her putting Frankenstein to sleep and betraying them all.
It was a weird betrayal in Karias eyes. Why call and tell him where to find his Master if she supposedly put him there in the first place. Why not run? Either she was too bad at making plans or…Karias didn't know what to think. He just hoped that Bartholomew wasn't too sad about that turn of events.
"Bartholomew"
"Huh?" he woke out of his thoughts "What is it sir Karias?"
"Don't be too hasty now, okay?"
A small sentence with too many meanings. Bart understood what he wanted to tell him. He was though too emotionally charged to make any other comment than "Thank you for your…advice sir Karias"
Karias gave him a small smile and focused on running again. He was excited as well. They would get their Lord back…hopefully.
"Sir she is heading to the generators' room"
"What about the guards?"
"She defeated them sir"
She still had so much energy to go. But what was her target? She didn't go to the officials' room, the lab, or the special lab…No she went to the generators' room… But why? Even if she did destroy them, surely she knew they had backups. She wouldn't achieve anything really.
"Perhaps she wants to destroy the guards' central systems? I'm worried sir"
"Don't be ridiculous boy. They have their own batteries and communication systems inside in case of emergency."
And then a thought came in his mind.
"No it's…Stop her with every guard you have in the interior! Get them all in building number four!" he said suddenly.
He opened another screen with the construction's blueprints.
The numbers on the facilities were as such: 1 for offices, 2 for laboratories, 3 for special laboratories and backup generators, 4 for main generator and 5 for storage. All of the facilities were connected with each other through air ducks and corridors as they were all forming a circle.
And now every non-stored robot was targeting the intruder.
She went inside as she heard the robots' metal legs hitting the ground. She had little time. "And now let's heat things up" and with that she destroyed the cooling systems that was making sure the generators and reactors weren't over-heated. Soon all hell would break loose.
"We are almost there Boss. I mean you are almost there…You are way ahead of us"
"Tao brief the others. As soon as we set foot there, we stop at nothing until we find them"
"Got it Boss"
Tao was absolutely focused on his task while Takeo was getting the auto pilot on and unbuckling in order to prepare himself to be the sniper in the battlefield.
Before he got his earphones off he wanted to ask Tao something.
"Say Tao, didn't we leave a little too hastily? What about the school?"
Tao waved dissmissigly with his left hand to him and told him not to worry.
"I called Na Yonsu to be a replacement guard and an extra hand is on the way as we speak"
Takeo asked with what excuse were they all going to be absent today and Tao just said that he filed a report that they all unsuspectingly were exposed in some kind of virus and thus they had to be quarantined for some time.
Takeo just shook his head at the information. Where did he find these excuses?
Frankenstein's voice was heard again from the communications.
"Oh and something else. We are going there to retrieve the lost ones…no one else"
"…Understood"
With that Frankenstein hurried even more 'Soon my Master. Please be alright and I will come to your aid. Please wait for me'
The floor was littered with metal part…and blood. Energy could be felt around but its shape was now merely light strings upon hands. The alert was still on, although now it had one more reason to be on. The temperature in the room was rising dangerously.
The cameras were showing a person struggling to move to the next building.
She didn't destroy the reactor; she didn't need to. It was going to operate until…
"Sir the reactor is overheating way too fast!"
"Damn her! She intends to blow the whole thing, doesn't she?!" some of his precious experiments were in the underground lake construction. And most important….the three subjects…
Damn…his initial curiosity got the better of him…oh well live to learn from your mistakes. And in this case: never leave unfinished business.
"Change the order. Kill her" he said while looking at her leaving the premises "it doesn't look like she has more to live anyway"
'I'm done dwelling over this project…Besides, I already got what I wanted' he thought.
"Yes sir"
"And get someone to start the backup reactor manually"
"There it is Boss! 50 meters from your location, to the left"
He didn't need to be told; he felt it. His presence and hers too. Also…
"Heh…Karias-…"
"I know…She is here too. Our Lord!"
"They are all here" said Bart as he was closing the other three.
"Oh…that's interesting" was heard through the communications.
"What is it Tao?"
"The energy signals are bigger now plus the heat cameras show a big rise in temperature and it spreads by the minute. It's all happening underground"
"What does that mean Tao?" asked Bart impatiently.
"I don't have a clear picture but…I think we should hurry"
"Sir, more intruders, four of them and they are approaching with tremendous speed. They are already in our vicinity"
Excitement was born on Conrad's heart. Could it be? Would he actually see it with his own eyes?
"Let me see them"
It was magnificent. Frankenstein, the so called traitor of humanity was there and with company no less…and was that…M-21? Oh this changed so much…So many new aspects and choices were born.
"It looks like there is a werewolf, two Nobles and an unidentified person sir"
"Yes…I see…How clever of a plan. Prepare the ground through a familiar face" he told to himself mostly.
He thought for a few seconds. By now they surely had picked up the location. "Send all the fighting robots level 3 and up to them"
"But sir, there are over 150 of them"
"It will be a spectacular sight I'm sure" he said as if he didn't hear the protest in the assistant's voice.
"As you wish"
On the ground, near the hill, a door opened; it looked like a hole in the ground. And next to it another one opened too. Exactly under those, was the fifth and final building which was the largest, second only to the laboratories. It was convenient to have your fighting arms under the very area you are supposed to protect and get them out whenever you wanted.
And so Frankenstein, Karias, Seira and Bart came forth to a rare spectacle. Over 150 robots level 3 to 6 were waiting for them.
They were tall but most of them were different with each other. The metal parts were obvious but those shapes…The different shapes told the group a horrible truth.
They were all part human. It looked like they had no consciousness of their own but it showed that they were practically androids.
Some of them were even maintaining their human faces...or parts of them. It was a weird mix of metal covering their bodies…It looked like it was eating them, covering them…And they were already dead bodies…without souls or mind.
Frankenstein's blood was beginning to boil. To use humans like that. And for what?; for them to be degraded into mindless androids? He wanted to feel sorry for them but his rage, he knew, it would eventually get the better of him.
Frankenstein stood before them as did the others. He started laughing out of excitement "Come forth! I am not afraid of you Conrad!"
"Oh I know that Frankenstein" said Conrad while inside the monitor room "I count on that for a good show"
The androids jumped to them.
L1's and L2's were pure robots, like the ones that infiltrated the YERAN high school not too long ago. But from level 3 to 6 they were all androids and much much stronger.
Apparently the bodies inside were modified and that allowed them some special abilities. L3's were very flexible in dodging while L4's and L5's were achieving energy blasts too.
Frankenstein was repulsed by that…and deep down really excited. He roamed through them without mercy while maintaining a deranged smile on his face.
Karias and Seira got their soul weapons and took their positions. With awful precision they were methodically and steadily eliminating their targets. One by one, group by group.
Bart transformed fully into a werewolf. It honestly felt good to have his veins pumping with energy and excitement again. His claws cut through metal, blood and machine tubes with oily fluids. He focused on the shifty androids while the Nobles focused on the L4's and L5's. Soon though he run out of them and decided to aid Karias.
Frankenstein…was slashing left and right without thinking too much about it. His purplish dark aura reaching up to his elbows and his eyes gaining the maniacal look that Tao usually refers to as 'Death-is-near' look.
Tao and Takeo were close by. Takeo suggested they stay as close as possible. He had his rifle ready and he was eliminating any stray bastard that would try to sneak attack anyone.
"I got you all covered guys, Tao is helping too"
Frankenstein asked inside the massacre though his earpiece "Tao tell me what you see!"
"They are definitely inside there boss but the temperature is getting way too high!"
"What's going on Tao?!"
The fury and also the uncertainty of not knowing what was happening in the building his Master was in, was slowly getting the better of him.
It looked like the reactor was overheated. Tao was wondering what their cooling system was doing.
Inside a certain monitor room Conrad was watching with excitement and curiosity at the screens' display while his assistant was shaking so much at the sight that almost dropped his tablet.
"Sir…what…what is this monstrosity?"
"That is Frankenstein you imbecile…the strongest monster of a human that ever existed"
"Sir they are getting awfully close to the-…"
"Yes I noticed, I'm not blind! I also saw that the L6's are on standby mode. They haven't reached them yet"
Conrad was a man of secrets…he would leave a good surprise for the end.
An L5 attacked with a blast straight to Bart while he was fighting an L4 but he managed to avoid it and let the blast hit his unfortunate opponent, making it useless.
Bart looked at the L5 android that showed no remorse for practically killing its ally. It made him sick. He got top speed behind it and run his fist through its skull. But then something beeped inside its torso.
"Oh shit it's a bomb!"
He got away with ease but still the shock was evident.
"Everybody be careful! Some of them will explode when you kill them!"
It was the last bunch of the L5's. They were a difficult bunch to deal with. Some of the bombs range was very big that it would hit other androids and they would explode too.
Bart was trying his best and Takeo was taking care of some of them but they were over 40 of them left and it looked like some androids in the back were still inactive.
Frankenstein was roaming through the crowds, not caring for the bombs but soon he reached the L6's.
"Activate them. Full force" said Conrad. His command was absolute.
"Yes sir"
The L6's were 20 in total but they weren't random failed experiments mingled with high technology machinery. They were different.
Their eyes glowed and the first one reacted to Frankenstein's attack by grabbing his hand by the wrist and shoving him back.
Frankenstein was a little bit surprised but most of all, excited. These androids would provide a good means to quench his thirst for revenge and destruction. Feeling like couldn't contain his excitement any longer he laughed as he was standing in the now activated crowd of L6s.
Raising his hand he shouted to an altering black sky "Heed my call, Dark Spear".

.TO BE CONTINUED...
A/N: Oh hoho...Frankenstein is getting serious. Inside it's catastrophe and outside there's battle!
I took inspiration from a real dryed up lake for the place I used as the secret lab's location here. The L thing I used for the different androids in order to tell them apart, it stands for 'LEVEL'. So yeah...let's see what happenes from here.
