Chapter 20: Long lost contact
At the YE-RAN high school…
The head master's secretary was running up and down, trying to get everything in order. Thank God it was Friday.
As she was getting almost finished with the paperwork a knock was heard from the door. She frantically told them to come in, without taking her eyes from the computer and the many papers that needed signing.
A young and elegant boy walked in. He stood in front of her and waited for her to acknowledge him even though he thought it extremely rude that she hadn't done so up until now.
She finally raised her head and saw none other than…
"Good morning. I'm the new transfer student Regis Landegre"
'Oh great, more paperwork' she thought.
With a look, Regis convinced her that the process was already done and no further paperwork was needed. He also told her what class he was placed in. Sometimes it was so convenient to be a Noble.
She accepted it all and let him go to his class.
It was Regis' turn to protect the school.
...Earlier at Lukedonia...
"I'm listening grandfather" he said as soon as Rael left the room.
He was ready for another lecture of how important it was to defend their home. He got used to them by now.
"Regis" started Gejuntel with seriousness in his voice "I want you to get to South Korea as fast as you can, and enroll into the school as a student"
Regis did not expect that. Was he imagining it? Were his desires making him hear things?
"Forgive me sir, but I don't understand"
Gejuntel put his hands behind his back "I was afraid that I would actually have to choose the one to assist the mission between you and Rael. But then you surprised me with your decision to stay"
He walked towards his grandson that he felt he was not telling him how much he loved him that often "I was so proud of you for your maturity, as I know that you really wished to see Frankenstein's family again. And yet you sacrificed that for the sake of your home" he sighed but continued "And then I realized that I was too strict. Our main goal all this time was to find our Lord. And, as Tao informed me, they need someone capable of guarding the school that sir Raizel loves so much. I could think of no one better. He said that if we couldn't do it they would ask one of the werewolves to assist"
He stood still for some moments, looking at an astonished Regis.
"But why didn't you deny?"
"Because I have more trust in you that any other right now. You are ready to take any responsibility. I can see it now. And I know that you would always put Lukedonia's best interests first"
"Always" said Regis with a little too much enthusiasm for his liking but he just couldn't contain himself. To hear these words from his grandfather was such a blessing for him.
"In the end, isn't Lukendonia's best interest to assist in any way we can in order for our Lord to come home safe? After all" he turned to the window as the sky was getting darker again "what good is a ship if there is no captain?"
He would not fail them. As he walked into the classroom and saw the children he almost stood still. But his determination did not let him lose his cool.
...At a dessert near a hill...
The sky was turning a frightening color of black and through a thunder the Dark Spear was in his hands. Frankenstein was most pleased.
"There you are my darling…You feel excited for carnage today I see" his eyes gleamed and his smile had taken a twisted upward curve "Well, so do I"
He rushed through the androids that seemed to understand the menacing aura and tried to dodge the maniacal flames of Dark Spear. It didn't take long to make contact though. He reduced the first android into pieces. And two others at once. He kept going like a maniac. The darkness of the spear had already covered his hands. The sweet taste of destruction...so invigorating!
But of course that wasn't enough. The need for bloodshed was big but bigger than that...
"Frankenstein"
His voice in his head…Clear as crystal…Something had happened inside the building…He could not stall anymore…He had to run to his master and see to his aid with any way possible…Who knew what would happen if he stalled any longer… Such a shame he didn't get to play…
"Bart, Takeo do you copy?" he said with an almost heavy heart. The menaces inside his head were cursing him and yelling at him but he would not jeopardize his Master's rescue. Not even for his guilty pleasure.
"Yes"
"Yes"
"I will proceed into the building but I will need you to cover me. Also Bart…these last ones are looking similar to the atrocity that the First Elder was turned into by Crombel. Be careful boys."
"Okay"
He then made a clear pathway to the building by sending a black flame to burn his way. He noticed that the androids wisely stayed away from it. They were much cleverer than the others. He just hoped help would be here soon.
He opened a hole on the hill with much ease and proceeded inside. He could almost feel his Master but somehow his aura felt so restrainted that it was so difficult to exactly pinpoint where he actually was.
Meanwhile Bart, Karias and Seira were facing the L6s. The bunch were all calculative and it looked like they were already having a strategy.
They attacked all at once while more were circling them. No matter how strong you are, having 20 individuals attack all in the same time was challenging. Unless you were Frankenstein.
Karias took the role of the archer and staying a little further behind along with Takeo who was having the same role in the battlefield. Bart and Seira were in the frontlines, but even though they were attacking on big scale, it was proving difficult to hold.
Suddenly Bart engaged in close combat with a rather fast and agile android. It looked like it used to be a female. ¾ of its face was covered in metal as was almost all of its body; the hair though…even short cut, he could recognize them…The body was obviously…
"Mari?" he kind of asked in a daze as he couldn't believe who he was seeing.
The android was unfazed and continued to try and take his head off with energy blasts that were charging through a mechanism on her torso. Without a second thought he thrusted his hand inside her and tore the source of energy away from the android. It fell down immediately.
He took a look around as he concentrated in an attack so strong that it looked like it was morphing into a wolf.
He blasted it and more than five caught in the blast but many dodged. It was not enough.
"Easy Bart," Tao said through the intercom "what got you so worked up?"
"They are using old enemies to make these androids. Be careful! They seem to be able to manifest some new powers into them"
Seira got another two in her big slash. But still so many of them were left. And they were fast; one got so close to Karias, that the Noble had to strangulate it with his own hands.
The next one was fast Karias almost didn't see it. It was too late…for the android. A slash appeared out of nowhere and killed it instantly by cutting the head from the neck.
Karias then felt him "Good to see you again, young Kertia"
All of them turned to see the newcomer. Tao was smiling like it would be Christmas; Seira didn't say anything but her eyes showed a sign of relief.
Bart immediately felt another presence behind him, ready to attack. He turned but his claws stopped a centimeter before the face he was seeing.
"Is that how you greet an old friend?"
Kentas was holding what was left from an android's body and in the back Garda was winning against two of them.
"Sorry…it has been crazy out here" said Bard as he was awkwardly retrieved his hand.
"I can see that" Kentas answered as he dropped the dead android and instinctively got back to back with Bart "You look like you rushed things a little bit. Don't be so hasty man" he said with a teasing smile as he transformed too.
"Why? Are you afraid there won't be any fun left?" Bart said with his usual teasing tone.
"Heh…Well that, and you should be able to use your energy wisely otherwise you'll drop on us" he said in a more serious tone.
"Thanks" said Bart as he was beginning to attack someone that looked like Lutai from the military force Cerberus "I will remember that" and with that he tore the android's left hand off before impaled its throat.
"You better do"
Now they were fighting with equal terms.
Little by little Takeo could see some vaguely familiar faces as he was shooting with the rifle. They all used to be top agents of the Union. Some he knew, some he had killed before. To use their dead bodies like that. It made him sick to his stomach. He should hurry u and put them out of their misery.
Garda had finished two androids and now she was transforming too in order to fight an android that looked more human than machine. But she felt that the soul had long abandoned the body. She made it quick and moved on.
Takeo was wondering what was happening with Frankenstein "Tao what news of Frankenstein?"
"I cannot reach him. The signal is lost once inside the hill but I can read his energy. He is roaming inside like a hurricane" Tao sighed "If only he knew that in his frenzy he went to the offices instead of the place sir Raizel is…"
"I see… I have faith in him though, don't worry…on another note" he stopped to shoot an android five times in the torso and three in the head "there are many androids here that used to be Union fighters. Some of them elites like the one Garda killed right now…It clearly looked like Yuizi from Cerberus and I think there was another one that Bart destroyed…"
Tao could feel a shudder crawling up his spine "They won't even let the dead at peace" he said in an almost sad tone.
"Let's put an end to this"
He stopped and realized that he had gone further away from where his Master was. Was he running in the opposite direction? Damn his bloodlust, it was getting the better of him again. He lost focus. The damn shadows in his head were still clouding his straight thinking.
He forced the Dark Spear into temporal submission and studied his surroundings a little. It looked like he was in the offices. He walked through a door into what looked like the control room. It was empty. How could this be? He opened a computer. That was empty too, nothing was in there, and everything was removed apparently. A couple of papers that were of no importance that lay on a desk. He came to a conclusion that they must have been waiting for him. He cursed his luck.
He was hoping to find the people responsible for his Master's kidnapping but…
He then observed a weird panel at the right side of the place. Kind of an odd spot to place it. If you didn't know the place you wouldn't notice it. He almost didn't. He approached the peculiar thing that looked like it was still working and beebing. He touched the mini touch screen and the menu opened. "CAPSULE MENU" it said.
Frankenstein was intrigued. He saw the options and then he realized. Three capsules. Could that be?
He quickly rummaged through it and he found out what looked like a procedure for "RELEASE" he pressed the first step which was "DECOMPRESSION". The second step was "OPEN" and he pressed that too. He then felt a sudden rush of his Master's presence, like there was something that was blocking his sences from feeling him as clear as this. To think that there was a technology that could hide someone's aura that well...
After the second step was completed, the third step "ENERGY WAKE" was shown. He didn't know what exactly it was and he had no way of knowing but knowing from Sara's condition when he had found her, he supposed they had probably drugged him too and he couldn't wake up on his own. Those bastards. How dare they. How would they have him unconscious and alive for so long?
He went to press the final step when the screen went blank. The beeping stopped; it looked like someone had suddenly pulled the power cord of the panel. Suddenly a source of light appeared behind him. He had a bad feeling about this. He had to find his Master. If he could have released him
They wouldn't open. She kicked them and punched them. She even used a spare metallic chair to hit them. But no luck. Those capsules were so well designed and the material...was so strong. Perhaps her energy swords...She used them...Pointless.
She didn't know what to do. She had never seen such a design. If she knew any better, Conrad would keep a devise for opening them…Suddenly the sound and steam of decompression broke her out of her thoughts. Did someone open the capsules? Why would they? How? She then made an attempt to search for someone's aura. Thankfully she was still able to do that.
"Frankenstein…of course. I have to hurry" So he had arrived. Thank God he found the control room. It would have taken her too much time to do it. She was sure she didn't have that luxury.
After the opening, she was waiting for the final step. But it never came. Someone had stopped the procedure. All three of them were...unconsious.
"Oh God…" she said with dread. Something must have happened.
A big screen lit on and a bulky man looking like he was in his late fifties with thinning blonde hair and a thick mustache was looking at him.
"Ah, Frankenstein! At last we…see each other…"
Frankenstein squirted his eyes while he was examining the man's face. He must have been the one that stopped the procedure.
"Dr. Conrad Stumae I presume"
"Oh please…Just Conrad. I like to keep things informal…especially with exceptional people like you"
"I don't have time for pleasantries" Frankenstein almost attacked the screen but the snaring was enough to make his point.
"I see. It looks like you are frustrated about something"
"Yes, I was expecting to find you here and slaughter you all for what you did to me and to my Master! But alas I find that you are more precautious than I had thought"
"Hmm I don't know what I did to you, other than manipulate the media in order for them to believe that all that happened was a military propaganda of a madman. Thus leaving you one less thing to worry about. You're welcome"
"So it was you. No wonder how easily everything went back to normal"
"Glad I could help" he said with a smile.
"Fuck off!"
"I assure you though, that what I did regarding your Master was to actually save him and treat him after the battle"
"Bullshit…Do not take me for a fool! I know you have been keeping him from me all this time and on top of that playing me like a fiddle!"
Conrad didn't immediately answer to that as he was fascinated by the wrath that was carried in Franlenstein's words "Well, you cannot blame a scientist for scientific curiosity… Surely you understand…"
Frankenstein showed him with his finger "Do not put me in the same bag with you scumbags! You and Crombel torture people to modify them for your own benefit and you even had the audacity to use the dead as a weapon!"
"Oh please…do not compare me with that oafish-…"
"You have no honor! And mark my words I will find you and I will make you suffer! You and the little witch will pay it dearly!"
At that Conrad raised his left eyebrow in question "I understand that you are upset but I assure you that you will find me more useful alive than dead" his eyes glowed "if only you knew how much I have progressed science! I was always a loyal admirer of your work Frankenstein but I can show you things…."
"Stop you wretched thing! I am not interested! There is nothing but detest for you and your associates in me" and with that he shoot dark projectiles at the monitor. The communication was getting lost and the picture was snowy. Conrad was still looking interested in Frankenstein's actions.
"Huh…you don't have to worry about her though…she is already dead if that puts your heart at ease"
It didn't really. The screen was melting. Frankenstein let the sparking monitor slowly burn the room. He left in a hurry. He didn't have time for games. He had to find his Master.
Inside the darkness for too long, he was sleeping. Hearing voices and seeing faces from time to time he was longing. Feeling auras and a new wave of energy coursing through him he was waking up…again.
His red eyes opened at once and the whole room felt like it was in his command. Next to him, he felt them…Raskreia and Muzaka. They were waking up too, seemingly by feeding from the same energy source. He gracefully turned his head although he had felt her before. Her aura was very familiar.
She was pale, long auburn hair and a middle stature for a woman. It wasn't a Noble, he knew, but then…her eyes were red.
Before he got to ask her, he felt him. Frankenstein had come to free him. So the girl must have come with him. His loyal servant was here. With him.
Muzaka and Raskereia walked to him and the werewolf spoke first "Raizel, Lord Raskreia" he nodded at her at the last second remembering some of his manners "What happened?"
Raizel had still his head turned to the young girl that was standing in front of them. It looked like she used her aura to give them enough energy in order to wake up. The war…the missiles. He was remembering everything now.
"You helped us" said Raskreia more as a statement than a question.
The young woman bowed her head "I am sorry for everything" she said and raised her head as she showed the corridor "Take the first turn right and move until you find a big hall. There are two big doors, it's the entrance, you can leave from there"
And with that she stumbled to the door. Muzaka was next to her and tried to help her but she denied his help fiercely. She told them to hurry and before she left she looked at Raizel "Tell Frankenstein that my debt has been paid"
Raizel kept looking at her but didn't say anything. He was tempted to read her mind but she looked like she didn't want that. He nodded once and saw her leave to the left.
Outside…on the battlefield…
The last three L6s had proven quite difficult to deal with. Currently Kentas and Bart were dealing with one, Garda was assisting Karias with another and Seira was dealing with the third.
Kentas and Bart had soon finished it although not before it drove it's weirs mechanical nails through Bart's chest and Kentas' left knee. But the werewolf advanced healing never dissapoints.
At some point Seira made haste to finish the creature off only to find out that it was much faster than she had anticipated. Her soul weapon had found thin air and she felt the android, which looked like it used to be a woman, quickly went from behind in order to shoot a blast that it had already charged. It was too close to her and as Seira turned she realized a moment too late what was going on. And then…
The android found itself ten meters away from Seira with a very angry Rael driving his soul weapon in its chest and pushing it as far away from her as he could. The android's left hand fired the blast straight to the desert. When the android landed on its back, Rael was still on it; taking his soul weapon out he looked at it for a small second and in his eyes you could see nothing. He was completely detached of emotion at the moment. He swiftly drove his blade onto the skull of the android.
He got up and brushed himself off. Seira had approached him and he slightly bowed to her "Are you alright miss Seira?"
"Rael, thank you for your help" she said with her usual stoic face but with a tone in her voice that showed true gratitude.
"Anytime my lady" he said as he bowed his head letting his hair covering his eyes.
A small cough was heard and they both turned to see Karias approach them. It looked like it was over. The last androids were defeated.
He felt him, he run to him and he found the room he was supposed to be in, empty. Three big metal caskets with glass ceiling were opened. Did somebody take them? No …he clearly felt his Master wake up. And by the looks of it he had heard his Master right in his mind; Muzaka and Raskreia were with him.
They had escaped…but how? His mind was in a frenzy. He didn't care much of the how but before he left he grabbed a couple of papers that was on the table. He would try to find what they had done to them later but for now he had to follow his Master's aura. They were probably leaving the building and it looked like he had too as the alert had not stopped once warning of overheating systems or something of the kind. He rushed after his Master.
Office rooms…
A figure was slowly approaching. As it was wavering it emerged from the open door and sat down on one of the comfy office chairs.
"You are still alive…"
That awful voice…Those bad memories that were coming with it. His face was shown in a half destroyed screen. Now that she had a second to examine the room she figured someone must had come here before her.
"So are you, Conrad"
"Tell me, before you die my dear, why does Frankenstein want your demise? I would assume that he'd be thankful for your assistance" he asked in the most peculiar way possible. He didn't look angry as much curious. Genuinely curious.
She looked at him with a bored expression "You talk too much"
"I just want to know" he said causally.
The alarm was still going crazy and she was sure that it was starting to get really hot too. The heat, and possibly the fire from the generator's construction would soon reach the offices too. By the looks of it, the offices were empty. Conrad was always a fan of pen and paper and he never put anything important in computers and the like. Nothing in this room was to prove valuable.
She slowly got up and tried to walk towards the emergency exit. This construction was the only one that had an emergency exit, perhaps because it was the only one that humans usually were in.
"Come back to us, Sara"
She stood only for a few seconds. The audacity to lure her back even at the edge of her death. He really had stopped thinking like a human for years now.
"No"
The word sounded weird she thought but the next second she realized that blood was starting to come up her throat. She pushed it down. She opened the door and moved her body out of the building.
"You really think I will let things end like that?!" he screamed but she had already left.
"I will make sure you won't miss the fireworks"
He was running fast, almost flying inside the building, following his Master's aura.
'Master, where are you?' he asked through the bond. He was afraid that he wouldn't get a response.
'I am alright Frankenstein. Follow me out of the hill'
'Yes, Master'
At the same time Raizel, Muzaka and Raskreia had no problem finding the last corridor which would lead them in the exit.
As soon as they entered the last chamber Muzaka realized that this was not only the entrance but also the internal parking lot. This was where they were having their vehicles. It was quite enormous. He could feel the fresh air that was on the other side and he could also feel the presence of people. Werewolves, Nobles and…humans?
"They are friends" said Raizel in order to reassure him "They are friends and family"
The people outside were recovering from battle. Luckily the wounds were not deep and their healing ability was fast. Tao and Takeo safely landed the chopper and joined them. They were approaching the hill and they decided to find a way to get in but soon after that, a piece of the hill that looked like dirt and grass moved aside like an elevator door and three people were getting out.
Everyone stood still. They knew who they were.
Raizel was in the middle, to his right was Raskreia and to his left was Muzaka. They walked outside with a sure step and they saw them.
"Sir Raizel?" was Bart's first reaction as he was seeing the man who saved him countless times from many dangers. The man who he owed his life to. The man he was so loyal to.
He stepped a little closer as Raizel was approaching them until they were only 2 meters apart, standing.
Bart then leaped and hugged him wholeheartedly.
Raizel was shocked at the beginning. Never before had he been hugged like that. If he did, he didn't remember it. After a few seconds he put his hands around Bart. A human hug. Most needed.
"I'm so glad you are back. Thank God you are alright"
"I'm glad you are all alright too" a small smile was drawn on his lips.
Suddenly Bart remembered himself and awkwardly ended the hug. He apologized and kind of took a step back. But not before Frankenstein saw the whole thing. He honestly couldn't feel happier at the sight. Such a humane reaction to finding a lost person. The other two of his boys gathered around his Master too. Such a beautiful sight.
Frankenstein got out of the hill a minute after his Master and he had the chance to see the reunions that were occurring. Similar to Bart, Karias had shown almost the same enthusiasm as he swiftly kneeled in front of Raskreia and took her hand to gently kiss it. The other Nobles kneeled as well. The werewolves were less discreet and official about it, yelling and all that, but Frankenstein knew of their brash manners so he was not surprised.
He then felt his Master's eyes upon him. His bond with him was fully restored. He slowly approached him and he didn't even feel the tears in his eyes threatening to spill. He stood in front of him and bowed with a hand on his heart.
"My Master" his long blonde hair was covering his teary eyes and he was thankful for that.
"Frankenstein, my most loyal, you don't know how happy I am to find you well. I've missed you. All of you"
"I…We've all missed you Master" Frankenstein almost lost his words.
Raizel approached him and touched his shoulder. Frankenstein lifted his head suddenly, no longer able to hide his face. Looking his Master in the eye he was sure now that this wasn't a dream.
"Thank you for coming to my rescue"
"I would never abandon you Master! No matter how many centuries pass…I will always be by your side"
Raizel nodded, smiled and said no more but only turned to Raskreia and the Nobles. The Lord of the Nobles was ready to leave. The others understood; after all Lukedonia needed its Lord. With a nod and a promise of a meeting coming soon the Nobles fled. Rael was making sure to show the others the safe passage he followed in order to get here.
As soon as the Nobles left, the werewolves approached Raizel's company. Garda seemed most happy to be nearby Muzaka again and the same could also be said for Kentas too.
"So Frankenstein, it seems that I have to thank you for your help" said Muzaka, not sounding particularly excited.
Frankenstein took a face of indifference and mild irritation "Oh don't flatter yourself Muzaka, if it wasn't for my Master I wouldn't mind you being buried here for another millennia"
"Insufferable little human…" said Muzaka half serious but didn't continue the matter further as he was curious about something. He really wanted to ask where the young woman that helped them was, but before he could do so Tao started telling Frankenstein about how they had to leave before the Union probably sent anyone else.
Frankenstein started telling them about what happened inside and how he had come in contact with Conrad. The youngling that resembled his kind was asking about some names but Muzaka didn't know what they were actually talking about. Muzaka didn't really understand all this. He was starting to think about his home and what had happened with his own kind. But before that he felt that someone was missing from the group. He looked at Raizel and felt that he too had been curious.
"Kentas"
"Yes, Lord Muzaka"
He scoffed a little "Don't call me Lord boy… Anyway, what do you know about a young woman that kind of resembles a Noble with a weird aura? She is here right?"
"I don't know of her, maybe…" Kentas thought for some seconds "Maybe she's the one that Gejuntel had told me. Frankenstein used her in order to find you all but I don't see her around here"
"Hmm" Muzaka was now beginning to worry but the weird thing was that none of Raizel's family looked like they were.
He decided to get Frankenstein's attention. The cocky bastard ignored him the first time! The nerve…
"Hey, Frankenstein!" he yelled.
"Can't you see I'm busy?"
"Wasn't there a young woman with you too?"
At that everyone turned to Muzaka. Now he had Frankenstein attention "What do you mean? Who are you talking about?"
"A girl, about this tall, pale, red eyes, long auburn hair, looking very ill, even a little bloodied…She must have come with you…right?" asked Muzaka at the end as he was looking at the expressions that started appearing on everyone's faces.
"She was here?" asked Frankenstein more to himself than Muzaka "Where did you see her?!" he then asked him quickly.
Muzaka was a little perplexed by the sudden change of attitude but answered anyway "She was headed to a different direction from us, maybe to the other end"
"Hmm the other end has the constructions higher… Mostly the offices are there and the chemical lab. Strange we didn't meet. I got to go to the room you were held in, by the chemical lab. She might've went straight to the offices so perhaps she was looking for something"
Bart, who was listening the whole time was still for a while but when he heard of her possible location he decided to take action "Frankenstein do you know where she could be?" he asked in all seriousness.
"Probably to the offices' construction. Far west. Even though it could possibly be on fire but…If I remember correctly there was an emergency exit there. I was there too before I felt of my Master. She probably-…"
"I'll go there" said Bart and rushed without delay. His voice was balanced but his face was portraying anger.
"Bart, wait!" Frankenstein was afraid that Bart was going to do something that would not have a good outcome. Bart had fled though. He could feel his struggle the entire time. He had not yet come to terms with what had happened.
He looked at his Master…He had the same face of curiosity as Muzaka.
"What is going on with that girl Frankenstein? Do you know that she looked sick?"
"I think that girl might have been already dead"
At that Muzaka and all the others who were listening got shocked. Tao asked if he meant that the androids could have gotten to her. At the same time he was wondering why would the androids attack her if she was with their side.
The scientist explained then the whole truth about her condition. Sara was deteriorating fast since the attack of the robots at the school. He told them that after the attack he got to analyze her blood. He knew that she had problems before the attack but… 'She has not been taking her meds and she most likely used her power up by now…'
Now he didn't know how Bart would react. Anger was always a bad advisor. And Bart looked pissed when he left. No wonder...He was already trusting and caring for her. To learn how she was involed in all this...That costed him a lot.
He held his earpiece "Bart, talk to me"
"Yes, Frankenstein"
"The hill is quite big. If she did take the exit, try the place that looks to the forest near the small lake. Tell us if you find her"
"…"
"Did you hear me?"
"Yes, I hear you. Don't worry I will be careful"
He turned to his Master as he approached him and asked him to tell him the details.
"Master, that woman…she was not a Noble" he didn't know why he started with that kind of information.
"I know that Frankenstein. I sensed her aura…twice already"
How could Frankenstein deny his Master's request? He wouldn't.
He finally found what he was looking for. The primal instinct of following one's scent had guided him there. Behind the hill, just before the small forest started.
There she laid breathing heavily with blood on her mouth, chin and neck. With her back on a tree. Bart was not feeling anything, or more likely he was not allowing himself to feel anything since this whole situation started. With sure and quick steps he approached her and crouched in front of her, looking at the miserable state she was in.
Oddly enough, she looked serene, like she had accepted her fate for some time now.
"Looks like you don't have much more to live anymore" he simply said as he looked at her straight in the eye, his stony determined face holding well. It looked peculiar to him though, how she didn't look like she had external injuries to excuse the bleeding from the mouth. Apparently she was weakened by another factor. Not that he cared to ask anyway.
"I am not surprised" came her coarse voice with a hint of sarcasm. That was the second time she foolishly ran straight into danger in an already bad condition in two months.
She had guessed it was bound to happen.
Bart didn't care for her reasons of doing anything anymore; he just wanted to be sure that what she had told him was the truth. He wanted to actually know the truth.
"Were you a spy all along?"
She closed her eyes and opened them again with difficulty.
"Why ask?"
"I want to know the truth Sara! What are you hiding? Because you are definitely hiding something! I want to know!"
"Huh…You are as stubborn as ever…I…" her words were interrupted by a violent cough. Bart was putting his left hand on her right shoulder to steady her on the tree she was leaning on all this time. The straightening of her back allowed her air passages to breathe a little better.
"How…kind of you..."
"Yeah I know, I'm a treat" he said sarcastically "Now tell me who you really are and why did you do all this" his voice was devoid of emotion as he got serious again, and his eyes looked like he would not be wavered by her compromised health.
"I don't know what you expect me to tell you, I…besides the past is pointless…Just forget the past and move on you damn werewolf!"
Not a second after that, Bart's hand squeezed her shoulder way too tightly and his teeth bared at her with anger. She sqealed weakly.
'So much for staying unaffected by emotions' thought Bart.
"I am a human!" he growled at her.
She just smiled "Sure…but for how long?" her strength was abandoning her; soon she wouldn't be able to move even to the slightest.
She was telling him everything he was afraid of. And he was becoming angrier by the minute.
"You…" his left hand was dangerously getting closer to the base of her neck, crackling some small bones on the way.
He kneeled closer to her "What you told me up until now…Was it true?! What do you know about me, that I don't?" a hint of uncertainty was evident on his voice; and also a hint of desperation.
But luckily for him she could not turn away from his silent plead. It was what it was.
"Go away Bart. You guys kill Conrad and live your lives" she said with dead eyes "go away and let me meet my end"
Deadpan voice fitted her deadpan eyes. She looked like she really meant it.
A non-humorous smile formed on Bart's face. Like he had finally come to a conclusion. She was too stubborn as well.
In Sara's half closed eyes he looked so handsome at that moment.
"I see…If that's what you want, then I shall help you…"
He was certain that she was bluffing. But he was willing to play that game. If he had to, he would hurt her just enough that she would spill the beans before her last breath.
While his left hand was holding her neck, his raised his right hand with the palm straighten and aimed straight for her thorax, right at the heart.
When a person is sure that they are dying apparently they let themselves loose and they don't care to hide what they really want to express at that moment. Maybe at that moment, as she was watching him, she really couldn't contain herself and for a second, as she was meeting her end, she really forgot herself.
"I am happy for you Bart..." she whispered either to herself or him she honestly didn't know.
His eyes opened up in surprise and his hand stayed in place.
She realized what she had done a second too late.
Bart suddenly became furious. He grabbed her with two hands by the collar of her shirt and screamed.
"Do you think with tricks like that I will spare your life?! Or that you will keep playing with me like a cat with a mouse? What do you think I am? Huh? A puppet? A squeeze toy for you to chew on whenever you feel like it?"
He was snapping while shaking her as she showed no reaction.
"Luckily for me, I know all about that psychological bullshit from a long time ago! Crombel, Mari, Jake…All the fucking uppers of the food chain would try tricks like this! But I won't let you-…"
He stopped as he was watching her smiling in a sinister way that it kind of worried him.
"Mari huh?... Weird…I remember…Tall girl, beautiful, liked her hair in a ponytail…with attitude?
Bart was shocked "Ye-yeah…How…You knew her?"
"Huh…Here's something you don't want to know…You actually used to know her too…before you all lost your memory"
"What…" This sounded ridiculous to him. Was it the truth? Or some other trick she was trying to pull?
"She died right? She was one of the…bad guys?"
Bart didn't answer. She didn't need him to anyway.
"She was one of us Bart…That bitch used to be one of my friends back in the day…" Another cough followed. Not as big as the previous but definately a bloody one.
"What…No, it can't be…" his hands were shaking as of now.
But Sara knew what she was doing. After her cough eased she continued.
"Why not? Because they were not failed experiments like you?" She was wheezing now. Some of the words were coming out slurred. But she continued.
"Power corrupts. They welcomed the corruption. Do you really think you want to know?" More coughs and more blood spilled with each cough "How many of our people were actually successful experiments under Crombel…How many worked for him? How many of our own people you might have killed while fighting the Union?"
"Stop, you lie!"
His right hand was raised again but his eyes were glazing. His fury was starting taking over his mind and common sense.
"Do I? Mary, Leo, Saya, Jake, Garrett…All of them were working for the fucking Union! They were all from the South Tribe…"
Bart's face twisted almost as hard as the hand on her neck.
"Don't fucking talk to me…about the past Bart" another deep cough interrupted her; it looked like she was suppressing it for some time now "You know nothing. How do you feel about knowing that you might as well have killed more of our people than Crombel did?!"
"Shut up! Liar! I know you say all this to distract me from the truth. You are in the brick of death, for once since you met me, do something honorable and tell me the fucking truth!"
"Frankly…you don't deserve to know the…truth…not with a mind like that…"
Bart felt like she was trying to spite him. Even in her last minutes, she was trying to rile him up. He almost couldn't contain himself.
"I need to know!" frantic eyes were full of anger.
She knew it. She understood.
"No...you don't"
That was the final straw. His hand pierced her chest, his tears fell down his cheeks, her eyes stopped moving, her mouth opened looked like it was mumbling something he couldn't make out and…
…another hand held his right one as a voice told him slowly but firmly "Stop child"
As if waking from a trance, his eyes shot up to see Sara unmoving and then…on his right he saw Muzaka holding his hand, preventing it from doing any further damage.
He stayed still, not knowing what to do. Had his anger engulfed him that much?
He heard voices in the background as well as footsteps.
The only thought in his mind though was "Did I kill her?"
Frankenstein got closer, checking her vitals.
"I am not sure…there seems to be something but…" he looked at Bart who wouldn't flinch, unsure if he should move his hand or not. Apparently the hand hadn't reached the heart.
He did not know what to do. "Fr…"
"I'm here Bart" said Frankenstein with the most peaceful tone he could muster. He sensed his distress.
"Is she dead?"
"I…don't…" what could he tell him? She most likely was but…it didn't look like that information would be in Bart's benefit. He didn't look pleased with what he was seeing.
He looked at his Master that had followed slowly behind him. His expression serene yet ever so slightly disturbed at the sight of his family's distress. Yet he made no move to come closer. Instead he talked with his mind. He advised Frankenstein to gather her and for all of them to leave. Something was going to happen he could sense it.
"I have to treat her at once. Now slowly, very slowly, retrieve your hand from her chest"
With Muzaka's help he did as he was told.
"Takeo, Tao take her to the chopper. I'm coming too"
Before he got up he looked at Muzaka "Can I trust you to bring him to the helicopter?"
Muzaka looked at Frankenstein with steady eyes. This was important for the human scientist. He looked at Raizel, who had come to scene at the same time as Frankenstein did. He nodded first to his friend.
"You can" he simply said.
Frankenstein moved to the helicopter. Muzaka slowly moved Bart up. The youngling surprisingly stood on his own and together, followed by Garda and Kentas, went to the chopper.

A/N: Raizel is back! And as wise as ever! I have come to realise that Raizel is a character who talks little but he always says something wise. He is an interesting character to write.
