"Do not move."

Rin crossed her arms, lifting her chin in defiance. "You can't tell me what to do."

Jinenji sighed, shoving his hands into the pockets of his forest green scrubs. "You have broken your leg. You will only prolong the healing process if you put weight on it."

She glared at the cast on her leg, willing it to disappear. "I don't have time for a broken leg," she said petulantly.

The nurse blinked in surprise. "No one has time for a broken leg."

"But I really don't have time for it!" she said, collapsing against her pillow. "My show jumping competition is next week!"

"I'm sure there will be other competitions," he said, sitting on the side of her bed, instantly regretting the choice when she burst into tears.

"This was going to be my first one!" she cried, latching onto him. "I worked so hard for it!" She gripped his scrubs, tears darkening the fabric before he wrapped his arms around her in a comforting embrace.

"I'm sure you did. But from what I know of the sport, the cast will get in the way of your ability to hold onto your horse." He stroked her hair, lips brushing the small clip on her ponytail. "Focus on getting better. Then you can show off all your hard work next time."

Rin sniffed, cheeks flushed with embarrassment as she pulled away. "Will you come and cheer me on?"

Jinenji's face turned a similar shade of red, suddenly realizing how close they were. "If you want me to," he mumbled. She hugged him a little tighter this time, then held up her pinky, her expression turning serious.

"You have to promise," she said, raising both eyebrows expectantly.

"Yes, ma'am," he replied, curling his smallest finger around hers.

"Rin."

Jinenji blinked, their pinkies still intertwined.

"My name is Rin."

He gave her a soft smile. "I look forward to seeing you fly, Rin."
