That evening was a Weasley/Black Family dinner and Headquarters was bustling. In the absence of Molly, who always insisted on cooking her heavy British cuisine, they had begun to take turns making the meal. So far they'd had Remus' Welsh Rarebit and Cawl, a fancy banquet style dinner made by Narcissa and Andromeda, and a proper fry up from Harry. That evening it was Hermione and Draco's turn to cook dinner.
She'd decided that they were going to make a Chicken Coconut Curry off of her Mum's recipe. She bustled around the kitchen, directing Draco to chop the vegetables and do most of the prep work. She smirked at his precise chopping as she seasoned the chicken.
When the curry was simmering in the pot she stood back from the hot stove, leaning against Draco's front. "I wish Theo wasn't blocking us out," she said with a heavy sigh.
"I can see why you two hate it so much when I do it," he murmured against her neck. "He's must be doing it because whatever he's doing is extremely important. If he were to unblock himself I'd send him all sorts of dirty images of all the things I want to do to the both of you."
He sent a wave of lust her way, and she could feel Theo's walls waver. She chuckled, and then turned in his arms. "Thank you for being so wonderful this weekend. I know I've been a right weepy mess. I just… I'm quite proud of where I come from and I didn't think we'd still be doing this. I haven't seen them in two years, and even before that it felt so sporadic with school."
He led her to the counter and then helped lift her up to sit, so he could perch between her thighs. They were at the same height this way and she could look straight into his eyes. "I know, darling," he said softly, "I only met them those few times, but they left such an impression on me. When they hear they're going to be grandparents I'm sure they'll be ecstatic." He tucked her braid behind her ear, "I can't imagine not seeing Mum for that long. Hopefully they'll be back sooner rather than later."
She sighed but nodded. "I know I'm being a bit of a mope."
"I'll take mopey Lady Malfoy Nott any day. Because do you know what that means?" he asked with a grin.
"No," she said, a smile creeping on her face.
"That you're mine," he said leaning forward to pepper kisses all over her face. After a moment of this she shrieked with laughter.
"Alright, Alright," she called. "I'm yours, and you'll take me however I am. It is partially your fault I'm so moody," she said sticking out her tongue.
"Oh I know," he said with a growl. "The things my son is doing to your body have me on edge almost every hour of the day."
She rolled her eyes and used his shoulders to hop off the counter. "I think the curry is ready," she called over her shoulder. Draco leaned against the counter, eyes sparkling at her for a moment. Soon enough, he began to set the table with a flick of his wand.
When she did a last check on the curry, she levitated it over to the table and called the rest for dinner. She quickly took her seat next to Draco as she heard a stampede move from all corners of Headquarters to the dining room.
Before she knew it, there were people shoved into every available corner of the table. She could keenly feel the missing members. Kingsley was out on a mission with Bill and Theo was obviously away on business. Minerva had joined them this afternoon, adding another voice to the Great Weasley Quidditch Debate.
Draco was talking with Percy about his work at the Ministry and Hermione was sitting with Harry, watching the proceedings thoughtfully. "Did you ever think this would be your life?" He asked after a few minutes of contemplation.
"Not in a million years," she replied, rubbing her stomach with the hand that held her wedding ring. "It's all a bit surreal, honestly. I've been quite melancholy these past few days, if I'm honest."
"Melancholy?" He asked, turning to face her fully.
"Well yes, the idea of doing all this," she gestured to her body, "without my parents is quite difficult. I just…" she felt a wave of sadness roll over her. She shouldn't be complaining to Harry, he hadn't really even known his parents and even his Godfather had passed.
"I know," he said softly. "I can see your mind whirling from here, I still think about mine and how they're missing things and honestly yours were always so great. The Weasleys can be…a lot."
"Speaking of, have you spoken to Ron?" she asked.
"He wrote me a letter," Harry said with a cringe, "he explained how he'd outgrown me and my hero-complex."
Hermione sighed, "He always had such an inferiority complex. If only he'd let that go, he might be happier."
"Ron will never be happier," Gerorge chipped in from across the table. The entire Weasley contingent made various noises of agreement.
"Has anyone heard how he's doing?" Minerva asked.
Ginny chuckled, "According to Mum he's quickly finding notoriety with his father and his father's compatriots."
Regulus snorted, "If by notoriety you mean everyone assumes he's a spy or a whinging little boy, then absolutely. No one takes him seriously."
"Honestly he has lower standing than his half brother did," Draco added.
Arthur looked disappointed, "I'm not sure where I went wrong," he said sadly.
"Trust me, Dad," Ginny said kindly, "you didn't do anything wrong. Ron always thought himself bigger than the rest of us. He was so busy complaining about what we didn't have that he forgot to look for what we did."
Arthur looked at her, eyes glistening with tears, "You're such a wise young lady. I'm proud to call you my daughter."
"Learned from the best," she said, standing to give him a hug, "I love you, Dad."
Hermione found tears running down her cheeks at the sweet display of familial love. Draco squeezed her shoulders and laid a kiss on her temple. "You're going to have to give us a daughter so that we can have sentimental moments like that," he whispered into her ear, causing a slew of goosebumps to break out up and down her neck.
She turned to him and with a cheeky wink, said, "My sons won't be emotionally stunted, so you should be able to have those conversations with them as well."
He stuck his tongue out at her and kissed her forehead, "I can't wait, darling."
