"There's a moment between a glance, and a kiss, where the world stops for the briefest of times." - A series of unrelated one-shots to celebrate my 100th fic on Ao3, based off a pairing, occupation, and a colour (with a kiss).
The pencil in Kagome's hand snapped as she listened in on the conversation. Where did people get off on berating employees? She sent an interpersonal message to Shiori, telling her to transfer the call.
She didn't care how long this person had been a customer, she was not about to put up with belligerent attitude just because they thought they were entitled to a better deal. Shiori's reply was immediate and thankful, with a little cobalt heart next to it, and Kagome's headset beeped to indicate there was a call waiting.
Squaring her shoulders, she clicked the button, the smile on her face more like a baring of teeth. "Hello, how can I help you today?" The woman launched into a tirade about lousy customer service, and Kagome bit back her snort. "And what was your part in the altercation?" she asked.
The woman sputtered, automatically denying everything, and Kagome leaned back in her chair. "Ma'am, I was monitoring the call. Did you not call my employee an 'illegitimate hanyou who should go back to her hovel' after she tried to explain our upgrade policy?"
More denial, then accusations about how paying customers should be their top priority, and Kagome almost laughed. "You're absolutely right. Paying customers should receive respectful treatment, but as I will be cancelling your account, you are no longer on our customer list. You will, therefore, no longer be receiving such treatment."
"What?" the woman screeched. "You can't do that!"
"I can, actually," Kagome replied calmly, scrolling through the woman's transactions and locking her out of their website. "You will receive your final bill within five business days, after which there will be no need to call us again."
"How dare you—"
"Perhaps you'll think about being a nicer person next time. Thank you for your time, and have the day you deserve." Kagome ended the call, cackling to herself as she rose from her chair. She was a few minutes early for her break, but she deserved it after that particular phone call.
Barely pausing after knocking on Sesshoumaru's door, she entered his office with a grin, her mate taking one look at the expression on her face and groaning. "Let me guess; we just lost another customer."
Kagome's grin widened, and she pushed him away from his desk, settling into his lap. "She was a speciest cow, and Shiori was nearly in tears." She draped her arms over his shoulders. "And you're the one who values the mental well-being of his employees above all else."
"Quoting the company's retention policy will not net you a promotion," he said.
"I already told you I don't need one. I like my job."
"It would allow me to pay you more—"
She cut him off with a swift kiss, nipping at his bottom lip before pulling back. "You know I don't care about that."
Sesshoumaru scowled at her. "You are much more than middle management."
"Which is why I'm keeping the perk of being able to come in here and kiss you whenever I want." She slid her hands up his neck, massaging the area under his ears.
He hummed in pleasure, relaxing in his chair. "That is cheating, mate."
"Yet you're not stopping me," she smirked, kissing his jaw.
"I am allowing you to revel in your success over your lunch break before you are forced back into monitoring phone calls," he replied, eyes fluttering closed.
"You could always call it a day, and we could have an early start to the weekend," she suggested, tone hopeful.
"Tempting, but I have three meetings this afternoon. Two of which were rescheduled from the last time we took an early weekend." Kagome pouted but relented, continuing with her massage until the telltale ding of his computer signalled the first of those meetings would begin soon.
"You're still going to be off on time, though, right?"
"I will cut the final meeting short to ensure it," he said, sighing in resignation. "Go eat. And check on Shiori to make sure there are no lasting effects." Nodding, she stole one more kiss, Sesshoumaru responding in kind and leaving her breathless before sending her on her way.
