Falkner did nothing but stare in shock at the sight of his Crobat, one of his best pokemon, lying beaten and battered right in front of him. His partner being beaten on their own wasn't all that big of a surprise, he expected his Crobat to go down at this point, plus his opponent had more than shown his ability to think ahead and come up with strategies on the spot. But, it wasn't the fact his pokemon had gone down that was shocking, no. It's just how easily they went down that took him off-guard. Honestly, they were beaten by a Dugtrio of all things.
The thing about flying-types is that they rely almost entirely on evasive tactics, speed and manoeuvring in the air are his specialty. As a result, his pokemon lack a solid defence and if caught by surprise, or rendered immobile, they can be taken out relatively easily. It's a big flaw in a flying-type trainers skillset in all honesty. His only real pokemon that could be considered even remotely defensive is his Skarmory, and that can be attributed to their natural defences and part steel-typing.
The problem is that his opponent has found a way around his usual tactics of evasion, he figured that when his pokemon weren't enhanced by outside factors their viability when it comes to ranged attacks would be little to none, clearly the Tri Attack and Ancient Power used by that Dugtrio are enough evidence to prove him wrong. Battling Asher was a pain, he hasn't been able to predict his moves so much as once this entire battle, he's as unpredictable as a Smeargle. He's a flying-type specialist and he's losing against a ground-type specialist.
Even if he won his father would chew his ear out.
He returned his Crobat to their pokeball whilst thanking them for their hard work and thinking what strategy he could use next. As much as he hates to say it, going for his usual approach of hit and run likely won't be good enough, in fact Asher is likely banking on him trying that again. He needs to change tactics, if he doesn't then he'll simply be outplayed.
He swiftly replaced his Crobat's pokeball with his next choice. He hopes that this works better, he's lost half his team. If the gap gets any wider then a comeback just won't be possible.
"Go Skarmory!" He called upon his partner with a mighty yell. This must work.
The red contraption released the pokemon contained inside and his steel-type friend descended to the battlefield with a territorial screech." Skarrrr!"
The armoured bird descended to the ground with a few flaps of their powerful and razor sharp wings. Their long blue metallic legs touched the ground and they sneered at their opponent with distain.
Skarmory is his team's defender, plus a natural counter to a pokemon like Dugtrio. So far they've shown him, normal and rock-type attacks in Tri Attack and Stone Edge. That Dugtrio likely also knows ground-type moves expertly as well. A tricky combination of moves to beat that's for sure.
But his Skarmory resists normal-type attacks and rock-type attacks will be something he can endure due to his defensive typing and tough armour. Skarmory is just the pokemon for the job.
"Would you look at that! Falkner has chosen a Skarmory! Will this new addition be able to put down Asher's powerhouse of a Dugtrio! If Falkner doesn't pick up the match soon it could be game over!"
Falkner did his best to ignore the foolish announcers words, but he couldn't deny that they held some truth. He needed to pick up this match right now or he'll be overwhelmed.
Meanwhile Asher stared over his pokemon for a moment as his lips curved up slightly. He made the first move as the match started." Use Sandstorm!"
Falkner cursed himself for not getting the first move as he quickly followed up as a whirlwind of sand gathered around Dugtrio.
"Skarmory use Iron Defense!" He needed to gain enough defence to easily handle those rock-type attacks. If he can just get enough boosts off before then, maybe just maybe...
A veil of sand swept over the battlefield as Skarmory's armour glistened and hardened as Iron Defence took effect.
Asher then spoke up as he held up a pokeball, this action caught Falkner off-guard." I'm going to withdraw Barret!"
Falkner felt some growing anxiety at those words, that's right. His opponent still has five pokemon and all of his withdraws. There's nothing stopping him from going at a rapid pace throughout the entire battle by switching out constantly. He doesn't have confidence that he could handle something like that.
Asher didn't even wait for the announcer to say a word when it came to hyping him up and switched pokemon at a lightning fast pace. Falkner could only assume that it was because he didn't wish to give the announcer a chance to speak a word. He could sympathise with that.
"Use Iron Defence, quickly!" He needed to take any advantage he could get.
His steel-type bird once again shined with steel-type energy as Asher unleashed a Nidoqueen that caused the ground to shake just as his Nidoking had earlier.
"Nidoqueen!" The female counterpart to Nidoking let out a battle cry and in doing so they let their armoured scales shine under the winter sun. Falkner would have been intimidated by the beast in front of him normally, she was just slightly shorter than the Nidoking he used earlier, and those tough looking scales and visibly thick hide definitely gave off the impression that they had a solid defense. But, they almost look... friendly. They didn't quite give off the same presence as his Nidoking did.
He knew she was a powerhouse though, he watched Asher's last match afterall.
"Keep your guard up Skarmory." He warned his partner not to underestimate their opponent just because they looked... cuddly. In response his armoured friend merely gave a grunt of agreement.
Asher gave the first command with a quick and decisive voice, as though he knew exactly what he was doing and that it would work out fine." Use Taunt to narrow down their options, then use Stealth Rocks, you know what to do if they attack." His pokemon heard his words and nodded at the cryptic message before sucking in air and giving a loud cry of their own name.
"Nidooooo!" A wave of dark-type energy was unleashed that swept over the battlefield and reached his Skarmory and washed over them.
Falkner gritted his teeth at that strange move he used again. He ignored it though and merely ordered his pokemon." Use Defog." He couldn't let them set up more traps.
His pokemon nodded and started to flap their wings at the same moment that Nidoqueen became surrounded by sharp and jagged rocks, preparing to erase them all from existence... only for nothing to happen.
What was going on?! His Skarmory wasn't using Defog like he was ordered! It must be that Taunt move they used, what the hell does that do?!
Amidst Falkner's confusion the Stealth Rocks were set up and floated above his side of the field as they turned invisible. Ready to tear his pokemon apart upon release.
"Again!" Asher yelled snapping him out of his daze. What is he doing, he can find out what that move does later. Right now he just needs to stop more Stealth Rocks from being set up.
"Skarmory use Aerial Ace to cut them off!" He instantly snapped back into action and ordered his pokemon. There's too many unknowns to Asher for him to figure out, he just needs to focus on the battle.
Skarmory leapt into the air and began to soar and pick up speed as the white glow of Aerial Ace took effect and he tucked in his wings to reduce air resistance.
He was going extremely fast, and if the Nidoqueen wanted to defend properly then surely they'd need to abandon using Stealth Rocks. Right?
But, to his surprise, the Nidoqueen merely shifted slightly and continued to prepare her Stealth Rocks whilst simultaneously guarding against the attack. She held up her arms and, not a moment later, Skarmory crashed right into her... only for her not to budge a single inch.
"Nidoqueen!" Falkner watched on in shock as the blue giant simply broke her arm guard and pushed Skarmory back, before finally unleashing the Stealth Rocks that she was charging up whilst defending. The rocks slotted into the already existing traps before once again blending into their environment.
That was utterly insane. His Nidoqueen stopped Skarmory with nothing but her arms! What sort of insane defense does that thing boast.
Asher smirked behind the Sandstorm as he ordered." Use Roar. Then whatever pokemon that comes in next should get a Taunt." His voice seemed very excited as he commanded his pokemon.
Falkner once again felt a deep sense of disbelief as the opposing pokemon sucked in a deep breath and let out a loud roar that was followed by a distinct wave of red energy.
It was then, that Falkner realised his plan.
The wave hit his Skarmory, who was still reeling back, and they were automatically sucked back into their pokeball and one of the two pokeballs on his belt activate automatically to replace the armoured bird.
The white light that was released by his pokeball faded to reveal that his Noctowl had been called out!
Roar is a move that not many pokemon trainers like to use. You have no control over what pokemon you're going to make your new opponent, and it's non-offensiveness made it an unviable option most of the time, but Asher had found a way to weaponize the move by forcing him to switch out his pokemon so that they take damage via Stealth Rocks! Roar has a recharge time, but once that's done Falkner will merely have to switch out again and take more Stealth Rocks damage.
If Falkner wasn't on the receiving end of such a cunning tactic he'd have actually been impressed by the wits of his opponent.
His Noctowl was confused for a moment, but was instantly made aware of his surrounding when a barrage of Stealth Rocks hammered into his body. Chipping away at his endurance as he cried out in pain.
Asher grinned at the sight of his new opponent and didn't give Noctowl any time to think." Rush in and use Ice Punch, then Ice Beam!"
His Nidoqueen nodded before she leapt into action and started to run much faster than her height would suggest as her clawed fist pulsed with icy blue aura before it was surrounded in an arctic frost.
Falkner quickly commanded his Noctowl." Soar into the air where she can't hit you, then dodge that Ice Beam and counter with Extrasensory!" The situation might not be unsalvageable. His Noctowl is adept at psychic-type moves, with Nidoqueen being a poison-type those moves will deal extra effective damage.
His Noctowl took to the skies just in time to avoid the incoming swipe of a blue hand, and shrieked as they quickly avoided several surprisingly potent looking rays of ice-type energy that were all released from the Nidoqueen's maw.
Falkner had to hold back an expression of worry as he watched the way his Noctowl was moving. The Stealth Rocks were more powerful than he originally thought, his pokemon's movements were slightly sloppy and it was likely luck that they'd managed to avoid being hit. Noctowl aren't exactly built for speed like the Pidgeot line are, of course his pokemon wasn't slow, but watching how his pokemon is faring he can tell that they aren't nearly fast enough to consistently out manoeuvre Asher's pokemon with pure skill and speed alone.
Asher has complete control over the flow of this battle, if he can't change that then-
Right as the crest on his Noctowl's forehead began to glow with psychic-type energy Asher simply ordered." Selena, use Roar."
Falkner gritted his teeth in frustration as that Nidoqueen let out another ear shattering roar that forced out his Noctowl and once they returned to his pokeball Pidgeot was forced out!
His starter opened their wings and let out a prideful cry upon being called out." Pidgeoo-pidgeoo!" His starter was cut off from their opening cry when Stealth Rocks descended on his flawless feathers and left him bruised with shallow cuts on his skin.
This battle was going nowhere. Asher is going to slowly finish him off by making him switch out so that the Stealth Rocks wear them down. It may take a while, but eventually they will lose at this rate. He needs to find a way out, and fast. But-
He can't think of any! He can't get rid of the Stealth Rocks using Defog because of that strange Taunt move he keeps inflicting on his Pokemon! He can't switch out into a new pokemon because he'll just keep digging his own grave deeper due to the traps on his side of the field! And then there's the matter of his pokemon simply being too tough for him to take down directly! The power difference between them is just too blatantly obvious!
He could switch out that Nidoqueen with Whirlwind, but that would be a gamble. He has no idea what pokemon he'd be forcing onto the field. He may very well just be making things worst. Though, if things stay the way that they are-
Asher cut across his inner thoughts." Use Stone Edge, we can't let them rest!" He yelled to his named Nidoqueen who nodded, barely even appearing tired even after using so many moves, and then proceeded to stomp on the ground to summon a barrage of blunted rocks that protruded out of the earth and were rapidly heading to bully his Pidgeot.
"Soar upwards, then close in to use Whirlwind!" He needed to change up the field somehow. That Nidoqueen is a roadblock, and he knows that if she remains he's stuck in a cycle that will, slowly but surely, lead to his defeat.
His starter took to the skies with immense speed that allowed him to easily avoid the Stones below. As expected of his starter and they quickly closed the gap between the two of them... only for him to flap his wings in an attempt to use Whirlwind, but that ultimately failed.
Falkner felt like pulling at his hair in frustration. Just what is happening to his pokemon! They aren't using their moves correctly, it's as though his opponent did something to limit what moves they can use!
Asher smirked as he took advantage of Falkner's apparent blunder. Falkner felt his eyes widen with panic as his opponent uttered his next words." Blizzard."
Oh no.
A wave of freezing cold ice was called forth and sent his starter's way. The knifing bite of winter was enough to cut through even the ongoing Sandstorm as his flying friend was hit directly with a full power ice-type attack.
"Geoooot!" Pidgeot screeched in pain as ice ate away at his feather, snow and ice littering his feathers as he began to freeze solid.
"Roar." Asher added calmly, as though he wasn't beating his opponent into submission with the use of several ruthless tactics.
Falkner could only watch on helplessly as another one of his pokemon was switched out and the Bird pokemon was displaced with his Skarmory.
"Skarr-moo mory!" His steel-type spread his wings, only to be met with the ceaseless force that was the Stealth Rocks layed on the battlefield. He withstood it better than his remaining two pokemon, but that's not to say he wasn't damaged by them.
The Sandstorm subsided and the battlefield cleared up, after that happened Asher held up a pokeball and called out to the referee." I'm withdrawing Selena." After he said that he withdrew his Nidoqueen to her pokeball.
Falkner was surprised by that, but wasn't going to waste the opportunity." Use Defog, quickly!"
At his orders the armoured bird started to rapidly beat his wings, this action created an updraft that caught all of the Stealth Rocks and shattered them all like glass. Good riddance.
Asher remained unfazed by those actions, as though they didn't matter, and pulled out an ultra ball. He grinned at Falkner as he said." Sorry Falkner, but now you need to move. It's nothing personal... it's just business!"
Falkner felt a large amount of dread pool inside of his guts at the sight of an ultra ball. He could tell that whatever pokemon it housed would be powerful, possibly the strongest he would face so far, and for some reason, in that single instant, he knew-
That he'd lost.
"Go Colossus!"
And in that moment, he released a monster.
I had to stop myself from busting a gut when I saw the expression Falkner pulled when I busted out my absolutely humongous Steelix. Oh boy, I almost feel bad for him.
Those Stealth Rocks weren't going to be enough to defeat Falkner, they were just there to wear him out and soften them up so that his pokemon would be weak enough for me to put down with Colossus. I wanted him to be so focused on the Stealth Rocks that he just forgets I can take him down with brute force. It worked like a charm.
Colossus growled lowly as he locked eyes with Falkner's worn out looking Skarmory. They got rid of the Stealth Rocks, but it wasn't gonna do shit for him at this point. His pokemon are too weak to stop me.
"Hyper Beam." No point in drawing things out anymore.
Colossus obeyed me as normal-type energy began to collect around his mouth and form as a inky coloured orb of energy.
The thing about Colossus is that he is massive. Very massive. And due to that his attacks are proportioned to his size. If he launches a Hyper Beam and he's about twice the size of a regular Steelix, then his attack is gonna be packing twice the power. That's what makes him one of my strongest despite him being my newest pokemon.
Falkner snapped out of his shock and quickly ordered his Skarmory." Use Protect!"
Instantly after he said that Colossus let loose his Hyper Beam, the ball in his mouth materialised and unleashed itself as a dark purple coloured beam of energy. This should be enough to put that Skarmory down.
In response to this Skarmory held up their wings in a challenging manner as they crossed them, this action made a solid field of protect appear very quickly that met the green sphere of protection head on. To my surprise the barrier held strong... for about five seconds.
Cracks began to spread all over the shield, slowly and steadily, until it all shattered into a thousand pieces and Falkner's Skarmory was bathed in the normal-type energy of Hyper Beam. A small explosion was heard and once the beam faded the avian was left to fall through the air with smoke coming off it's body and it's eyes closed. He was down.
"Skarmory!" Falkner yelled in distress, though his words were mostly drowned out to my ears by the roars of the crowd. They were going absolutely wild at the sight of another of Falkner's pokemon going down like a swatted fly, to be honest it all felt a little anticlimactic. Oh well, this is real life, not an anime-
Falkner's Skarmory suddenly snapped his eyes open as he shakily stabilised himself and managed to land on the ground roughly. His armour was scorched, he was trembling, and overall he just looked like shit. He was still going though.
-then again this world is based off an anime.
"Skarmory, are you okay?!" In response to his trainer's question coated in worry the armoured avian just scoffed to the side in a poor attempt to appear tough. It didn't work. That Skarmory was one stubborn bird, if he were up against a regular chap then they'd be two pieces of toast. But, I just ain't a regular lad, I'm built different.
Alright, if he doesn't want to stay down then I'll just have to put him down. I gave Colossus his new order to finish off that hard-headed pokemon." Colossus use-"
But, I never had a need to finish my command. His Skarmory huffed and panted, before they just fell down and didn't get back up. In retrospect it did take a Hyper Beam to the face from Colossus, so it's only expected that he wouldn't be able to take that attack head on.
Still impressive though.
"Wow, Asher's Steelix launched a Hyper Beam that took down Falkner's Skarmory in one well placed shot! It looks like Asher is going to be walking away as the victor!" Oh my god- will you just SHUT UP!
Falkner seemed to wince at those words as he picked Skarmory's pokeball off his belt and returned his pokemon with a few words of thanks. I almost felt a little bad looking at him. Was I too ruthless? Did I fuck him up so badly that he's just going to quit? I won't lie and say that wouldn't be boring, but it would certainly be quick-
However, Falkner surprised me by hardening his gaze as he picked up another pokeball and pointed it at me and my gigantic Steelix." You're a powerful trainer Asher, truly you have earned my respect in this battle. But, I won't submit to you until my last pokemon is out of commission! Even against these overwhelming odds I refuse to back down!" He boldly as he stared right into my eyes from across the battlefield.
I couldn't help but grin at his words. He was a touch dramatic for me, but he was a cool dude. We're mates now." Good, I'd be bored if you just threw in the towel now! Make me works for this, I don't want it to just be a cakewalk!"
It was hard to see from the other side of the battle court, but I could have sworn that his lips curved up ever so slightly at my words." Of course! Go Noctowl!"
He threw his pokeball and his pokemon emerged with a mighty screech." Noctowl!" Despite the damage they'd taken before, they looked as determined as their trainer.
My grin stretched across my face further with every moment that went on." You think you can handle us then who am I to stop you, blow them the fuck away with Flash Cannon!" I felt my blood boil slightly as Falkner also made a command for his pokemon to follow.
"Noctowl, dodge it with Agility and then use Hypnosis!"
Colossus's mouth burst with a silver aura which burst out of his gaping maw in the form of a concentrated beam of steel-type energy that was directed right at Falkner's owl pokemon. But, Noctowl seemed to disappear from sight, leaving only their afterimage, dodging the attack whilst increasing his speed with Agility. They then followed this up in the form of psychic-type rays that were being emitted by the crest on Noctowl's forehead.
"Use Dragon Breath!" He's too big to avoid that attack, it'd be better to fight fire with fire.
With swiftness that you wouldn't expect from a non dragon-type, a ball of yellow/green flames gathered in Colossus's mouth that burst forward right as psychic waves started to be emitted by the flying-type. The attacks seemed to overlap, but didn't collide with each other, so they both hit their mark.
Noctowl shrieked in pain as dragonic flames scorched his skin, whilst Colossus started to wobble in place before he fell asleep and his head hit the floor. He literally shook the ground when he did so.
Falkner saw this and acted to take advantage of my Steelix being asleep." Noctowl use-" As soon as he started talking his pokemon erupted with yellow sparks that showed paralysis and the owl pokemon shrieked in discomfort and pain as their body locked up in the air.
Looks like my gamble payed off. If I was going for damage then I would have gone for Flash Cannon, but I decided to roll the dice and chance for a paralysis. Looks like I made the right call.
A Noctowl shouldn't be able to do much to me in all honesty, I'm not even being arrogant when I say that my victory is a sure thing at this point. I have five pokemon left with two of them being totally fresh. Meanwhile Falkner has two damaged birds with one of them having paralysis.
If I'd taught Colossus Sleep Talk or something then I'd have already won.
"Colossus wake the hell up! We've got a match to win!" I yelled at my sleeping Steelix. In response all I got was some grumbles, he was like a moody teenager who didn't want to get out of bed until two in the afternoon. Yep, that Hypnosis is some strong shit.
Falkner saw this and responded with a shout of his own." Noctowl break through it and use Air Slash!"
I watched as Noctowl literally fought through the paralysis, as though some invisible force was holding him back, and he converged on Colossus as his wings glowed with light blue flying-type energy.
I wasn't worried though. Colossus's skin is so ridiculously tough that an Air Slash won't be enough to faze him. And I was right to think that because Falkner showed very visible frustration as the blades of flying-type energy did little, if anything, to affect his hide as he continued to sleep without a care in the world.
"Wake up!" I yelled once again, this time he grumbled and stirred slightly. Well that's progress at least.
"Shadow Ball!" Falkner ordered his pokemon to attack once again, probably thinking that it'd do more damage than Air Slash. It just wasn't enough though.
Colossus finally opened his eyes right as Noctowl was about to launch a ball of ghost-type energy from the crest on his forehead. This was it, Falkner has given me a bit of a challenge here, that's more than can be said for most of the scrubs in this tournament, and I've actually had some fun. But, like all things in life, this must come to an end.
"Flash Cannon." He was done.
Colossus opened his mouth as steel-type energy gathered around his gaping maw, and then let loose a massive Flash Cannon that tore right through the Shadow Ball and swallowed Noctowl whole before spitting him out in an explosion of smoke.
The owl pokemon hit the ground smoking and unconscious at his trainer's feet with Falkner himself having his eyes shadowed in a very foreboding fashion. Wordlessly, he returned his fallen friend and switched the pokeball in his hand so that he was on his final remaining pokemon. His Pidgeot.
The entire stadium was silent at this point when he pulled out his last team member's pokeball. I genuinely don't think that anyone would blame him for just surrendering at this point. Even these guys, as moronic as they are, can see that Falkner doesn't really stand a chance at this point. I felt a little bad for snuffing out his chance to battle in the finals, but at the same time I've got my own dreams that I need to reach for.
So, despite my respect for him, I need to finish him off.
Falkner had a look of resignation on his face as he took a breath and threw his pokeball with a swing of his arm to finish the battle he started." Pidgeot, I need you!" He cried out with a resigned yet determined glint in his eye. You're going down fighting huh?
Upon being released by the red contraption his starter made their appearance with a wide spread of their wings and a high-pitch shriek. I wasn't convinced though, that Blizzard and the Stealth Rocks from earlier were taking it's tole. Falkner's team seem to have a glass cannon-like nature. He's clearly been favouring speed in his training with the idea of dodging to avoid attacks. Too bad I just have ways of dealing with speed. His pokemon also lack a solid defense, just a couple of good hits are all it takes.
The announcer made some comment about Falkner being on his last pokemon, but I really didn't feel like listening to that jackass. I'm gonna go complain about him later. He's totally biased in his commentary and isn't even trying to hide it at this point. Falkner might be about to lose, but that doesn't need to be rubbed in his face. At any rate, I'm totally gonna ask for his number after this. Being a future Gym Leader will make him a good contact to have, plus from this battle I can tell that he's a cool guy. It was just bad luck he had to face me.
Anyway, it's time to finish this.
Falkner spoke first with a surprisingly loud voice. That's weird, he was cool as a cucumber at the start of our battle. I guess being down to your last pokemon can do some weird stuff to a guy." Use Double Team, then Tailwind!"
Instantly the regional bird shot forward and flashed as an army of clones began to crowd around him, then they all flapped their wings and suddenly a strong wind was blowing in their direction, increasing their speed.
"Use Iron Tail, take them all out!"
Colossus roared as the tail part of his serpentine body started to glow with a radiant silver light and he burst off the ground and towards the army of Pidgeot clones. With all his might he brought down his tail onto the ground, only a few of the clones were destroyed, but when he fully unleashed his attack and hit the ground an audible boom was heard as wind and rocks flew everywhere.
The debris from the attack hit most of the clones, not all of them, but luckily the original was struck and them losing focus was enough to make the Double Team cancel itself out.
"Use Thunder Fang!" This should be enough to put that bird down for good.
Colossus widened his open mouth and started to coat his blunted teeth with electric-type energy, once he was done he lunged forward like the serpent he was with intent to bite down on the stunned Pidgeot.
"Use Agility!" Falkner voice was urgent and sharp, because he knew that if this attack connected then he was done for.
Quick as a flash, Pidgeot dodged the attack leaving Colossus to bite at nothing but air. And I focused on Pidgeot just to have my suspicions confirmed.
The golden haired bird wasn't looking too hot, his feathers were damaged and he was panting ever so slightly as he encircled my Steelix. They were slowing down, all that damage must be making it hard to move, because from where I'm looking it seems he's near his limit.
I just need to keep attacking." Hyper Beam, burst mode."
Falkner seemed perplexed by my words, but Colossus understood the order. He built up some Hyper Beam in his mouth, but instead of firing his attack off in a compressed beam, he let it loose in tiny bursts that were all aimed right for the darting Pidgeot in the sky.
This is a little variant of Hyper Beam that I came up with, the move itself is very simple in nature. Hit something really really hard with a strong beam. But, there are ways you can make your attacks less predictable, for example you can just let it loose in small, less powerful, but frequent bursts. Essentially I'm going for quantity over quality in the hopes of striking down that fucking bird, since one hit is all it'll take to take him down.
The purplish-black energy in Colossus' mouth was let loose in multiple attacks that forced Pidgeot to dodge. This is kind of like in a shooting game where instead of going for a sniper rifle you choose to go for a machine gun.
Falkner's eyes widened as he snapped out of his surprise." Dodge them all!" He was getting desperate, but it was too late.
At first Pidgeot dodged all of the strikes with fluid like ease, but after a few seconds it began to struggle until one of them grazed it's wing. Once that happened they lost balance and another blast of Hyper Beam hit them in the face causing them to drop to the ground below.
"Pidgeeee...ot." They weakly grunted on the ground with Falkner gritting his teeth, knowing what was about to happen. He'd lost, his pokemon couldn't go on anymore, staying would only result in his pokemon being hurt more.
So, Falkner let out a deep breath as he turned to the referee and said." He can't do anymore, I'm surrendering Pidgeot." He simply states, looking like he just swallowed a massive pill, almost as though what he just said disgusted him.
The referee looked surprised by his words, but I just gave him a look of understanding. It can be tough to swallow your pride like that, a lesser man would have just let his pokemon get hurt for the sake of looking tough. But, Falkner chose to put his team above his pride.
He's a fucking good trainer, I'll give him that.
The referee got over his surprise and lifted up the flag in his hand." Falkner has surrendered his final pokemon, with five pokemon left that means that Asher from Viridian City is the victor!"
The screen near the top of the stadium, which I am just now noticing, allowed the final pokeball the represented Falkner's team go out, symbolising that he'd lose.
I smiled as I held up an ultra ball to return Colossus, he'd done his job.
I'd won.

So, the Falkner fight is done. What is that now, three chapters? Maybe I dragged it out a little longer, and maybe the Stealth Rocks were a bit repetitive, but I wanted to outline just how cheap Asher really was, and that he was fine with fighting dirty if it meant certain victory.
