Chapter 5: A Family Magic Training Camp.

Lily felt slightly awkward as they walked silently towards the forest, "So you are going into your fifth year right?" Godrick asked trying his best to break the tension.

"Yeah..." Lily didn't really know how to respond looking at the ground as she did.

"We really didn't have years back when I went to Hogwarts we advanced by skill level, I was only at the school for four or so years before it was discovered that I was a born vampire." Godrick had a slight smile as he talked, this calmed Lily as she looked up from the ground. "I can tell you more of my past another time we must prepare" he said as they reached the edge of the forest.

"Prepare?" Lily questioned.

"There is a ritual that can help you discover your bestial affinity" Godrick responded as he pulled two carved wooden totems out of his cloak. "This ritual is a newer addition to our family magic, before I was taught it was immensely difficult to learn and control our family magic." Kneeling Godrick placed the totems next to neighboring trees, "Wi'sis Wellgwijing Ga'gan

Pana'latl" he chanted lightly in a language Lily did not recognize. As his chant ended a light purple energy began to form between the trees. before Lily could ask anything Godick was already explaining, "I have one more story to share with you," he began as he turned from the forming portal behind him. "Five years after I discovered my Vampire "Heritage" I found myself in debt to a Viking raider from Greenland by the name of Leif Ericson he asked me along on his journey to discover new land. And discover new land we did we also discovered new magics and the powerful shamans and medicine men who wielded it. The people we discovered called themselves the Mik'maq a group of Native Americans who live on the eastern coast of current day Canada and the United States of America. When Leif decided to return home I stayed and became a student of the local Shaman hoping to learn of a way to commune with my inner beast. So I could understand it better and hopefully control it and not become consumed or obsessed with with it. My training led to this ritual, it is not perfect but it is better than what your aunt's uncles and grandfather had to go through."

"The way you talk of this ritual, it's as if you have tested it multiple times." Lily observed.

"Yes I have helped others with abilities similar to our own, and I have had other children over my nearly thousand years of life." Despite herself Lily felt a pang of jealousy upon hearing that her father had other children that Likely had him around for most of their lives. "Lily before we begin I just want you to know that I never intended to miss so much of your life, the hibernation spell I cast on myself was designed to break when you learned of your heritage. I never expected it to take nearly 15 years, I had no other choice... But that is a story for another time." Lily was about to respond when Godick turned around to enter the portal. "Follow close and do not get distracted the terrain shifts and it is easy to get lost." He said as he stepped through the gate, Lily silently steeled herself before following. The purple energy licked her skin as if it were fire, but it did not burn. Stepping through was the most unique experience in either of her lives, she felt a pleasant numbness. Her first sight as she stepped through the portal was unlike anything she had ever seen. Everything was vibrant and colourful, it was like stepping into a cartoon. The forest was overgrown but still had a nice natural path that she saw her father walking down. Remembering his words she jogged to catch up, doing her best to to get distracted by their surroundings. Not long later Godrick stopped in a clearing and turned to face her, "we must begin the ritual right away we do not want to gain the attention of the denizens of this world." Lily nodded wordlessly in response, she did not want to think about what could be or is out there. Producing a stone from his robes godrick began to draw a rune on the ground, as he finished he tapped it with an outstretched finger. The rune expanded rapidly til it encompassed the clearing, "you must take your place at the center of the rune for the ritual to begin."

"Will it hurt?" She asked as she reached the middle of the rune, her heart was racing. nothing in her precious life could have prepared her for this.

"No more than you can handle, please stay in the middle no matter what happens." Lily nodded shakily the fear of the unknown getting to her. "This ritual will take no longer than two hours, and in that time you will face your attuned animal. You will have to tame it for for the ritual to be successful, if you fail to do so in the two hour window you will be rejected and will have to try again after some time." He explained as he approached his daughter, "No need to be afraid your bonded animal is as much apart of you as your arm, do not insult it and you will be fine... I believe in you." Godrick's words calmed Lily more than she imagined words would, her heart beat began to slow and her mind was no longer racing.

"Thanks..." She said in a whisper.

"Now I'm about the activate the ritual, are you ready?" Godrick asked as he exited the rune. Lily nodded again in confirmation, Godrick smiled lightly at his daughter before kneeling to place his palm on the rune.

If he had casted a spell lily had not noticed it for as soon as her father placed his palm on the ground the world went white. Lily blinked as she attempted to see anything around her, "what in the..." Escaped he lips as she looked around seemingly floating in a empty white void. Before she could question it further the sound of hundreds of flapping wings filled her ears. Lily covered her ears as the sound began to get overwhelming but this had no effect on the sound. Just as she was about to scream a voice called out to her "It seems like you can hear me now... It only took you thirty odd years..." The voice scolded as it did the flapping died down. Turning to find the voice Lily found herself face to face with an immensely large owl. "An owl?" Lily questioned. "A genius..." The owl snarked, lily blushed lightly at this. "Sorry after what my father told me I was expecting something... I don't know... Different." Lily explained, "well we are stuck together no changing who you truely are." The owl countered. "I don't want to change I think we had enough of that in our previous life." Something a akin to a smile spread across the owls face "You are smarter than you seem, you know I was with you in your last life." "You did say you have been waiting for thirty years, and since you have waited so long why don't start what ever test you have and get it over with."

"Intelligence and overconfidence go hand in hand can you find the wisdom to balance confidence and intelligence?" The owl asked as it's eyes glowed white. Sending Lily what seemed like the forest, before she could think she was met with a large sword piercing the ground before her.

"State you business in the diverging paths!" A voice boomed, Lily instinctually reached for her wand as she looked upwards at the owner of the voice and sword. Standing before her was a knight that towered over her by at least three times her height. It donned black and gold armor with a helm designed to look like an owls head. She felt no malice or killing intent from the knight leading her to remove her hand from her wand.

"My name is Lily and my business is my own, I only wish to pass." Lily said while crossing her arms.

"Then you must choose wisely," the knight said as it took a seat on a stone chair that seemed to appear from nowhere. The chair was nearly completely covered in healthy green vines, "There are many paths here only one is the one you seek." With a snap that sounded more like a gun shot a hour glass appeared in his hand. "You have three hours to choose a path, you may also ask me three questions finally you may choose three wrong paths before failing. Your time begins now!" It said while flipping the hour glass onto the armrest of the chair.

Elsewhere a teen Lily knew well was sitting in his father's office along side his brother. "I have told you both why I follow Voldemort have I not?" He asked gruffly, neither boy could speak they hated when their father talked about the monster of Slytherin. So they simply nodded, "verywell then you also know that the black family is bound by blood to be a Vassell to the Slytherin family. And if the headlines yesterday are to be believed that bastard Tom Riddle is not the heir to Slytherin. So in a week's time the three of us will travel to Slytherin manor to find the truth of these claims. But before we can do any such thing the two of you must be presentable, I cannot have you bring shame upon the names of Orion or Black. You shall both need to learn our family's ancient magic, for this training we must head to the ancestral home of the Black family, Blackthorn forest."

Regulus was the first to speak up. "Forgive me father but I have not come across what our family magic is in my studies of the family library, May I ask what it is?" Sirius was not surprised his kiss ass little brother asked such a question but he was happy he didn't have to ask.

Orion glared at his son, "We manipulate the cosmos and use its power to strike our opponents down. Some call it natural magic because most members of the black family can only drawn power from our planet. However you will learn to draw power from the entire cosmos." This piqued both boys interest, "Go pack for a week it will take that long to get you two into shape."

The last Vassell family the Malfoy's were on the run in their own home, being chased by men in black robes and silver masks. Abraxas Malfoy snarled as he threw a powerful volley of spells around a corner he and his family were using for cover. "Lucius take over I must get us out of here, you and you wife will be necessary for the war to come!"

"Father what are you say..." Lucius didn't have a chance to finish his sentence as his father fell back and he had to take over the battle for his family's life. His wand arm moved faster than he could have thought possible as he threw every spell that could hurt maim or kill towards their attackers. He dropped one after the other as what seemed to be an endless wave of masked men flooded the hall all throwing spells. One of said spells nearly hit him in the side of the head only to fizzle out on a protego cast by Narsissa who was joining him to fend off the death eaters.

Abraxas bit his thumb hard enough to draw blood and with his wand he began to drain the blood from the wound. Another flick of the wand the blood began to form into a rune on the floor. "Blood connects us and it shall guide our way!" He said as he placed his hand on the rune, it began to flow around staying in the form of the rune. "The portal is open Lucius Narsissa step on the rune, it will take you to safety." As he said the words he saw his son take a cutting curse to his left shoulder nearly severing the arm causing blood to paint the floor. Malfoy blood, this made his own blood run cold with rage. It only took him a second to reach his son, and yet he had already been pulled to safety by his wife. "Get him onto the rune I'll get the two of you out of here! And take this Abraxas ordered throwing her an old book. Which landed in her lap, Narsissa wanted to respond but something in the back of her mind told her this was the only way. Nodding she began to drag the now unconscious Lucius onto the rune as she did Abraxas activated the rune sending them away.

"You should have left with them old man," one of the death eater snarled. A Corus of laughter erupted from the fifty or so death eaters left.

"I didn't have time, whatever... at least I get to do this!" Lucius' blood began to dance around him as he spoke, "Fontaine De Sang!" The blood erupted outwards stabbing most of the remaining death eaters, as if in a dance Abraxas weaved around spells and used his sons blood to create sharp blades and spears.

As the last death eater dropped a harsh voice echoed, "Avada Kadavra!" A malicious voice yelled. The green light struck the Malfoy patriarch, the light left Abraxas' eyes as he fell to the ground the remaining blood from his son's wound falling with him.

Narsissa blinked as she looked around, she had no idea where she was but it seemed to be and felt safe. As she sat on the floor clutching her husband, every emotion she had been blocking away during their escape came to the surface. She normally would have tried to do something about Lucius' wound her self but she was far to our of it at the moment. So she did the only thing she could think of, "Help! Someone my husband is dying please help!" She yelled as she began to sob, a little bit of sense came to her as she realized she needed to put pressure on Lucius' wound.

Elsewhere in there Rookery Severus was listening to his grandfather explain the basics of how to heal with magic alone. They both had their concentration broken by a woman's yell, "Did you hear that... It wasn't Lily who could it be?"

"I did lets go investigate, we have a duty to heal those in need." Septimus ordered, with a nod from Severus they both rushed out of the library. As they stepped into the foyer they were met with Narsissa and Lucius Malfoy sitting on the floor covered in blood.

"Merlin's beard! Narsissa what happened!?" Severus asked as he rushed to their side, but before she could respond he was pushed aside.

"Silence boy this is not the time, I need you to get me clean towels and warm water. Once you have those go make me some blood replenishing potions and a lion heart potion! Here is the recipe," he said shoving a piece of parchment into Severus' hands. "Prove you are a true Prince, make me proud!"

Severus nodded and ran off towards the kitchen to get the towels and water, "okay miss Narsissa was it? What happened, I must know what spell he was hit with."

Lily stared at the owl knight before her with fury in her eyes. After the first mistake she made trying to leave the knight began to show her what was going on outside of her mindscape. First it showed her her father fighting off the denizens of the world they were in protecting her. After the second mistake it showed her the Rookery where somehow Narsissa and Lucius Malfoy were in her house and Lucius was hurt badly. She also saw Severus and septimus helping the couple, "Why are you showing me this!? Are you trying to distract me? Are they even real?" Her anger was staring to get the better of her.

"I show you what you need to see, no to be wise you must also have knowledge, and yes I am simply showing you your loved ones." The knight responded. This only irritated the red head further "Do you wish to use your last question?"

Lily turned around in frustration gripping at her hair, 'what the fuck is he talking about!? Why do they let me ask questions? what the hell is going on?' Something clicked in her brain with the last internal question. 'It can't be that easy... Here goes nothing.' "Yes I want to ask my last question, where is the right door?"

The owl knight made a laugh like noise, "Right here." He said as he stood moving the vines that draped over the face of the chair he had been sitting on. Revealing a door, "well-done you Slytherin." He said as he disappeared, Lily looked at the door in disbelief.

"This was a trial of wisdom? I don't get it... Well maybe I'll learn the meaning one day" She said as she stepped through the door. Doing so lead her back to the world she had left, where her father was fending off some wildlife.

"So you are back?" Godrick asked while throwing a boar like creature out of the way.

"Yeah..." Lily responded as she stood, "how long was I gone?"

"Three hours, not bad honestly however let's get out of here" He was now standing beside her.

"We have an injured guest anyway, it would be best to get back quickly." Godrick cocked his head to the side at this. "No time to explain," Godrick nodded knowing it was best not to question what a person saw in such a vision quest. It only took them 15 minutes to return to the manor, as they walked in the door they saw Severus and Septimus cleaning up blood in the entryway. "Sev is everyone okay!?" She asked rushing over to him to embrace him.

"Thanks to gramps here Lucius might even keep his arm... Not sure how he and Narsissa got here but we found them here, and Lucius was badly hurt." He responded returning the embrace, Lily broke the embrace to look at her boyfriend.

"Where are they? Did either of them say anything?" Lily felt it was best to keep her experience in her mindscape to her self until she could figure out what it all meant. And so far her father was happy to let her be on the subject, at least for now.

"We put them in one of the vacant rooms, Narsissa said death eaters attacked Malfoy manor. Lucius was hurt in the attack, but when I asked how they got here Narsissa began to break down. I gave her a calming draught, now she and Lucius are resting."

"Abraxas sent them here likely at the cost of his own life," Godrick reasoned. "He was a master of blood magic and because the Malfoy family is bound by blood to our family, so when Abraxas sent them away it sent them here." Both teens turned to the vampire in confusion, "the Malfoy's are the only family I kept in contact with..." He said rubbing the back of his head, "your mother was good friends with Abraxas' late wife." He said looking towards Lily with a sad look on his face, the look of concern on Lily's face caused him to turn on his heel. "I need to be somewhere, the three of you will be on your own for the night. Lief is resting please do not bother him everything you will need for dinner is in the kitchen." With that he disappeared into the darkness in on eof the corners of the room.

"What was that about..." Lily thought aloud, 'He is hiding something, I'll keep an eye on him... But how? I don't know if Lief will he is just as likely to go to him with any concerns I have... Maybe I can craft a spell.'

"Well I must get back to Prince manor your Grandmother is waiting for me, she would be quite elated to see you Severus." Septimus said in a gruff tone as he adjusted his robes, Severus looked at his grandfather in confusion and Lily simply looked at her boyfriend hoping he would stay. "Though I can understand if you would like to stay here with young lady Slytherin." He finished with a wink that only Severus saw, Severus simply nodded and with that he elegantly turned to apperate away.

"So it's just us..." Severus said with a shake in his voice, Lily responded with a kiss on his neck. This caused the Prince teen to let out a low growl, "Lily please don't." If she continued he didn't know if he could control himself from taking her right here. Lily looked up to with a little smirk on her face, "I love you but I can't right now."

Lily broke the embrace leaving Severus longing for the warmth she provided, "Let's go make supper then." She announced as she turned towards the kitchen swaying her hips as she walked.

"She is going to be the death of me..." He said with a goofy smile on his face while following the red head.

Lily smiled on the outside, but on the inside she was terrified. 'what was that why couldn't I control myself... I only meant to kiss his cheek and leave for the kitchen, if he hadn't said anything I would have took it too far... What is wrong with me,' she didn't have much time to think as Severus had joined her in the kitchen. "So what are you up for?" She asked as she pushed herself up onto the counter so she was sitting on it.

"I don't know I'm not picky" Severus said with a shrug.

Lily looked at the raven haired teen with a scowl, "that is not what I asked Severus."

Severus flinched at his full name Lily never called him by his full name, saying she didn't like the ring of it. "Uhh but I really don't know what I want, I didn't mean to make you angry" he said slightly recoiling from is clearly angry girlfriend.

"What is your favorite meal?" Lily asked in a much softer tone. "I want to make it for you," 'as an apology for teasing you...' Lily hopped off the counter to approach her soulmate. "I'm not mad, just frustrated... you have as much say as I do when it comes to what we eat."

"Chicken pot pie... I know it's kinda mundane but I love chicken pot pie." Lily had a quick flash back seeing the first time Severus had been over for dinner, they had Chicken pot pie. Suddenly Lily understood why, 'I wonder if I could kill those damned Snape's without being caught?' She thought to herself.

"That sounds amazing" Lily said with a bright smile trotting over to Severus to give him a kiss on the cheek. Turning on her heel she flicked her wand, ingredients began to fly from the cupboards. Along with them a mixing bowl and a pie plate, minutes passed as lily prepared the recipe for chicken pot pie that her adoptive mother had taught her in her previous life. Severus watched Lily in a trance amazed by the woman before him, the way she combined magical and mundane techniques looked as if she had years of experience. He knew otherwise so this amazed him more than he expected, he was brought out of his trance by some dough hitting him in the side of the head.

"Wha...?" He let out as he pulled the the somewhat sticky dough off his face. Lily was laughing lightly when he looked back, " Oh this means war!" He yelled with a hearty chuckle, with a flick of his own wand the flour behind Lily floated above her head before falling. Powdering the red head white, this only made Severus laugh harder. Having his eyes closed from laughing he only heard the cracking of eggs, the slimy egg slid slowly off his head and down his back. "Ehhh" he scrambled trying to get the egg out, finally doing so with a vanishing spell.

"Shouldn't have put flour in my hair..." She half heartedly growled, "though we really shouldn't waste food as fun as that was" she said with a smile. "Food should be done in twenty, I'm going to shower really fast get this flour out." With that lily left Severus alone in the kitchen with the small mess they made. Under the water Lily chastised herself, "god just what is wrong with me... Every time I'm with him..." "Your soul is trying to make up for lost time, only time and being intimate can fix what you are feeling." Lily looked to her side to see a spectral white owl akin to the one in her mindscape. "Intimate!? I don't think he is ready for that... I can't force him that would b wrong." The owl cocked its head to the side, "not what I meant, you must be close... Touch, kiss, hug, take a nap on his shoulder and if it comes naturally the best fix would to be have sex." Lily blushed feverishly at this, she wasn't sure why she had, had sex before hell she had a child in her previous life. "You just need to repair the bond you two share, and closeness is key." The owl said as it disappeared into the steam of the shower, "not helpful..." She lamented, stepping out of the shower she remembered the gift Ilosi had given her. Her curiousity got the better of her as she walked over to her belongings that Lief had neatly stacked by her bed. On top was the box Ilosi had given her, without even changing our of her towel she walked over and grabbed the box. A powerful wave of magic flowed through her, it nearly caused Lily to drop the box.

"What in the world..." She breathed as she rolled the box in her hands, "well I guess it is not of this world." The box was half black and half white with a golden seal keeping it closed. "I really should open it... Why do I feel nervous? It's a gift from a literal angel." Despite her words she watched as her hands as if having a mind of their own opened the box slowly. She was met with a light glow, and a beautiful ornate silver pendant with a owls head as it's centerpiece. As if compelled she adorned the necklace, the metal's contact with her skin sent a shiver down her spine. Other than that she felt no different, "well that is a little disappointing..." She thought aloud.

After getting dressed in some of her own clothing, a green long sleeved shirt and a light yellow skirt. "You're late..." He said with a light smirk, he was currently serving the piping hot pie onto plates.

"Yeah? I hadn't noticed." She snarked as she sauntered over to the counter grabbing one of the plates from her boyfriend. Grabbing his now free hand she lead him over to the table. Holding his hand seemed to cause her head to swirl, though she managed to not show any outward symptoms. 'This is almost like being high... I cant say I dislike it but it is hard to concentrate.' sitting across from eachother they began their meal, an awkward silence fell upon them neither knowing what to say. 'It has never been this hard to talk to Sev... It doesn't help that all I can think of is snogging his face off."

Severus was the first to speak nearly halfway through their meal, "so what did you have to do to start your family magic training?"

Lily was caught off guard by the question, but responded quickly. "I discovered my bonded animal, an owl but if I were to guess it's either all birds or raptors. As my father is all bats and my grandfather was all snakes, I would explain more if I knew more... Honestly I'm more than a little overwhelmed by all of this, a new family, new powers." 'A new life...'

"I think I can understand a bit of it..." Lily cocked her head to the side, "my grandfather just made me the heir to the prince family. Apparently I impressed him today, I guess that's all it took to get accepted by my mother's family." Lily could tell he was torn between hating his family for abandoning him to his abusive parents, and being happy about being accepted. So without a word she came around the table and gave the black haired teen a tight hug, they stayed like that not wanting to leave the others presence for one second until a voice interrupted them.

"Very cute but can either of you tell me where we are?" The strained voice of Lucius Malfoy asked as he leaned against the entrance.

A/N: sorry for the long wait but the story continues! Please review it gives me motivation!
