Campaign Against Yuan Shu Part 3
Yuan Shu was outraged by what he was hearing, he couldn't believe that these people would have the audacity.
"How dare they, I am the Emperor, they cannot do this!" He snapped. "All of you, we've lost Ji Ling and several others, I expect all of you to pick up the slack, understand!"
"My Lord, I'm not sure what we can do." One of his officers explained. "We are surrounded and they'll begin the attack any time, our supplies were captured and our ambush units thwarted, we have no allies, no support, our morale is low and-"
"Silence, how dare you talk that way. Urgh, for all those so called Lords to dare defy their Emperor." He growled before shaking his head. "Just...go and fulfil your duties."
His last order did not contain his usual haughtiness or anger, instead it sounded, resigned. Regardless they went to go and do just that. They had barely left the castle before they heard the noise and instantly panicked, the attack had begun. In the Wu camp, Sun Ce heard the horn and then the shouts from the other camps and nodded as he stood up.
"Alright, that's the signal." He exclaimed. "Let's begin the siege, get the rams out at once and move the towers up, catapults ready, we can't give them a moment to rest."
They all cheered at that and hurried to their duties while the officers began relaying their instructions to carry out the attack, determined to bring Yuan Shu down.
Sun Ce was concerned and it was clear to Daqiao who stood next to him that it had to do with their current lack of progress in the battle.
"This isn't good…" Sun Ce mused.
Daqiao bit her lip. "Ce?"
He shook his head. "We can't get through, their desperation is making them fight with even more fervour...it's making our advance far more difficult that it has to be."
"You're right Ce, but there may indeed be a way to make this work." Zhou Yu said as he hurried back to the camp.
"What do you have in mind?"
Zhou Yu pointed to the western side of the castle. "This castle is larger than it's host. While we are attacking the south, east and north, the west suffers for it. If we can get a small group to use grappling hooks to get over the walls they can infiltrate the castle and get the gates open from the inside."
"Sounds good Zhou Yu, get Xu Sheng, Lu Su and Lu Meng on that right away." Sun Ce replied with a grin, feeling his hope returning.
So the order was quietly passed along and those three got what they needed and slipped over to the west gate while the Wu army continued their attack from the south.
The sparse troops stationed at the western gate had been anxious, looking around, but their backs were to the gate itself, not expecting anything due to the lack of army. As such they were caught off guard and swiftly dispatched by Lu Su, Lu Meng and Xu Sheng once they got to the top of the gate house, with that dealt with they quickly began to make their way down into the city, ready to creep to the gates and get them open. It wasn't long that they did so and immediately it was clear that the path was ahead and the horrible truth of that quickly descended on Yuan Shu's men. Their opponents however were emboldened and immediately charged in to overwhelm the dismayed army and indeed, Yuan Shu was overhearing this too and panicking. At that moment, sure enough, Yuan Shu soon found himself cornered by the officers while his army were being defeated, his other officers were also being forced to surrender or slain.
"You can't...you can't do this!" He cried in anger, holding his blade out, hands shaking. "I am the Emperor, you must-!"
He was cut of sharply, by Sun Quan cutting him down from behind and the others relaxed, it was over, Yuan Shu had paid the price for his treason.

Sun Ce smiled as he rode back with his men, they were victorious and Sun Ce already was planning his next move, he had to be ready as things were certainly going to change now that Yuan Shu was dealt with. The Imperial Seal was missing but everyone agreed that was for the best and now everyone was heading back to their lands, Liu Bei going to Xu Province and Cao-Cao returning to Xuchang while Sun Ce led his people back to Yang Province. Quan was quiet, head bowed and seemingly deep in thought which was in stark contrast to the others who were all celebrating their victory, nobody noticed however as they were all too overjoyed by their victory and hopes for the future.
