Winnie Pov.
I'm the queen of danger
Winnie's initial shock for her transformation wasn't as bad as the others, she wasn't an undead, she was a living and breathing her. She was just hairier and more canid like.
She was always ready to prove herself, to prove that she could do everything she set her mind to.
Unlike Tanis her love for winning wasn't a complex born from not being able to achieve much during her past life.
Winnie liked to start fights and knew how to end them.
Her joyful nature over accepting every dare and doing everything to prove to be the best was a result from having been born a monster, she always felt she didn't do anything extraordinary to become a werewolf.
While her father could tell the story of when five centuries before he was cursed by the moon to become its herald and for centuries, he wandered the earth announcing every full moon with a howl that thrilled the blood of every living thing.
Her mother could tell the story of when she was a young girl that by being in the wrong moment at the wrong time she drank a mysterious potion, made by wolf's blood and ancient dark magic only witches knew, and by pure shock she turned into a wolfwoman. And she wandered the earth too until she met her father during the hunt.
Winnie always felt she didn't have a real origin, she was born like this, she didn't have to do anything to become a wolfgirl.
So she wanted to prove everyone she wouldn't become a shallow and spoiled nepotistic brat, she never asked anything that wasn't "Wanna bet?".
What would her father say about this? Winnie becomes human and she is immediately a weakling that can't hunt or run to save her life.
Her parents won't be there to see her hitting the bottom, they long ago moved to Florida and came to see their daughter occasionally, and Winnie liked that.
She liked to feel independent.
But now she had to share her new life with a handkerchief for the nose. Her parents could either be thrilled that their spawn was experiencing humanity or disappointed because she didn't like it.
Being human was an event for her father and a nostalgic memory for the mother, but Winnie could just feel how it was spirit crushing and how it made her body feel like a pit of fire and puke for no reason cept because the continuous effort she punished her body with came to bite her tail by making her realize how only by being a wolfgirl she could do it.
Unable to think if it was irony or karma for the fault of her pride, she decided to consider it what it was, a bad luck accident.
And just like that she was back in the present, still with her hands on the wheelchair of her once joyful Phanty, whose spirit (pun intended) could once eclipse the sun by how much she was positively brightful.
Now reduced to living brain into a dead body, not even a zombie but a sad and depressing vision for the eyes.
Then Winnie decided to cut the ice of the atmosphere and turned around to go close to Phanty, the wheelchair stopped, and the blue haired girl's eyes were tilting looking at the ginger girl arriving.
"How are you me friend?" Winnie asked with a bit of hope that everything was doing fine or relatively fine.
Phanty could just move her tongue and do some growls and silent throat sounds, but the translator on her head worked and said
"I'm not good. I'm tired of living like this. I can't do it." said bluntly with no less metallic tone than a vocal computer app.
Winnie looked down, she didn't know how to help and if she could help. Her friend was pretty down in the dumps and seemed she just waited to return to the ghost world for better or for worse.
But she couldn't leave a friend behind, as the sportsgirl of her squad she had a strict and serious leave no man behind policy, not abandoning an ally, never say no to help, a squad is as it's best when all it's members are at their best.
"I'm not the greatest with words or…with what you're passing right now, but if I can help just tell me and I will do anything to make it less painful". She was saying calmy and with eyes that sparked hope for the girl to return happy even before Elsa could finish that up.
Phanty did the same throat sounds, it could have been for 10 seconds or more, and the translator said
"I don't need anything if not turning into ghost, but now I rather be alone, I'm sure you understand".
Winnie could understand, she didn't want anyone to look at her in this condition, she wanted everyone to know and remember her as the sparking joy phantom of fun and giggles.
So Winnie realized it and with an hand clapping sound she raised her voice and went
"Mr Hand! Can you help pushing Phanty's wheelchair?"
The room felt silent but then some unknown sounds came from nowhere and Mr Hand, the floating hand, was here.
He flied over the blue haired girl and pushed her wheelchair around the room enough slowly for the skinny gal to not break any bone.
And the slender gal said "Thanks to you" with her throat growls, and the translator promptly adapted it to sound.
The hand raised her thumb for a moment into a sign of "all ok no problem".
And Winnie looked at her friend and the manic hand go.
She had the whole time for her, but what was she supposed to do?
Do what she always did in the morning she realized.
A warmup run around the Grimwood institute.
And she sprinted, screw the sickness, the cold, the nostrils on fire, the bile in the throat, the reddish eyes, what's a run if not feeling alive?
And she then realized how tiring it was, she didn't realize it at first but the bottom of her legs started to hurt, not in a painful way but in a sensation that made it so she could have felt better if she wasn't doing anything.
Her ankles were all sore, as sore as a shoe used so much it was now frayed.
She kept moving thinking it was just a mind thing after her human transformation.
But then she tripped, she couldn't feel the ground with the shoes as well as with her paws.
She managed to land with her knees on the dirt.
But then she felt it and screamed a cut "Aooogh!"
She was feeling the hurt of the dirt landing on her knees, the tiring of her muscles, her stamina coming to an end.
"so this is it?" she said angry to no one in particular.
"I can't run without tripping and getting tired as quickly as a…as a…" she tried to think at an animal that got tired as fast as it could run for it's life, she tried to say cheetah but wasn't a fitting example but then:
"as a human?" she put it bluntly.
"mhmm, maybe it's unfair for humans that go sports but still…" she tried to correct herself always to no one in particular.
She still felt as if it was over for her life as the sport-sister that could run faster than the winners.
Not really sad or depressed she returns in the house. Thinking at what she could do now that everything she liked is gone.
She went in the dining hall and remembered.
"I once played cards."
.
.
.
"Yeah I don't like it" a tired and scowling Winnie was saying as she had a deck in hand with cards put at random on the table.
Then she went to the shelf and saw books.
"mhmm" she was thinking. "I know how to read so why not".
Why not was what she used for playing cards, but she ended up disliking it.
And then she found a book "Gone with the Wind".
She never read it but heard it so many times she considered it a pop culture thing or shot out just like saying "Scooby Dooby Doo". She even once said "Gone with the Wand" to make a joke without knowing the source.
Maybe it was time to know it.
And she was then reading it, her legs were relaxed as if they were asleep, her eyes were following words and her hands holding the source of this, and her mind was working like crazy.
Like a vivid dream she could imagine and take shape of what the book was telling.
This wasn't a bad sensation, it was good.
Notes:
Winnie father being in Florida and being cursed by the 5th century moon is a nod to Reluctant Werewolf
Winnie mother origin is a nod to the The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo "To All the Ghouls I've Loved Before" where Daphne becomes a werewolf after drinking a potion
Other nods are for you
