Hey guys. Here's the next chapter.
She was pissed. The only thing their team had been doing were D-rank missions and team formation practice. Kakashi hadn't been teaching her crap. He'd had Kiba work on his tracking with some dog summons and had told choji to go work on partial gigantification and to stop using the human boulder jutsu, but for her he just gave a half-assed "Work on the skills you already have" while overseeing her training. At least he said he was overseeing her, though it seemed like he was just reading that shitty book of his.
Did he not see any potential in her? Did he think she wasn't worth his time? As these thoughts were floating through her mind, she heard Kakashi sensei call her with a "Time for some special training Sakura-chan."
Yes! Finally. She ran over to him with a "yes sensei."
He said, " Before we begin, do you know what it is you need to be a shinobi like the Yellow Flash?"
She thought about it for a moment. The yellow flash was famed for his speed which allowed him to be a terror on the battlefield, as well as his intelligence, which let him strategize well and master and create jutsu no one else had, so she gave those 2 things as her answer.
"Nope" was Kakashi's cheery reply. "What you need is a hax jutsu/ability. Unfortunately, you aren't capable of using the hiraishin, and your chakra capacity isn't high. Which is why you'll have to get a bit creative. The jutsu you'll be using is the Shuriken Shadow Clone jutsu, though you can technically use it with other weapons."
With that, he tossed her a scroll and said, "get to work", before leaving in a flurry of leaves.
She had to admit, it was a clever jutsu worthy of the man titled 'The Professor'. What was ingenious about it wasn't the concept itself, but the fact that each shuriken had the exact same momentum as the original. Having to suddenly deal with hundreds of shuriken a few metres from you when just an instant ago there were just a couple of them could overwhelm even jonin level ninja if used right. The jutsu was theory intensive, as it required you to know the exact mass and velocity of the shuriken you were copying, as well as understanding how to manipulate chakra to induce said velocity into the shuriken. But she was the theory type herself anyway, so this was perfect for her. She smiled to herself. Maybe her sensei wasn't that bad after all.
He stared at the red-eyed woman in front of him. She didn't seem to have any hostility or other negative emotions towards him, which was nice. But did she have to smile so damn much. Seeing that stupid and obviously fake smile was just annoying. The loud banshee next to him grumbling about being in a different team from sasuke didn't help his mood either. But this was a step he had to take, and Iruka had promised to treat him to ramen if he behaved, so he stayed quiet.
Kurenai was nervous. After all, this was her first genin team. Being given some difficult kids didn't help either. Ino's crush would be tough to deal with. Naruto didn't seem to trust people easily, which was fair given his ability, but she would have to find a way to get him to lower his guard. And the Nara, was just plain lazy. She would have to use his teammates to get him to show some effort, since he at least cared for his friends.
"Well then. Let's begin. Why don't we introduce ourselves? Share your name, your main strengths, your weaknesses, and what you want out of this team. I'll start. I'm Kurenai Yuhi. My main strengths are genjutsu and my speed. My main weaknesses are my stamina and my physical strength. I hope to mold you into a cohesive team that cares for each other. Why don't you go next Ino?"
Ino straightened up at that and said, "I'm Ino Yamanaka. My main strengths are my clan techniques and psychology. My main weaknesses are taijutsu and my physical strength. I hope to succeed in my father's footsteps, so I want to become a chunin with this team."
"Great. You can go next Naruto."
The boy stayed in his lackadaisical pose as he said, "I'm Naruto Uzumaki. My main strengths are ninjutsu and taijutsu. My weaknesses are genjutsu and strategic planning. I will be hokage, and want this team to not hold me back on my way there."
Interesting. So, he was the ambitious one on her team.
"Great. You can go next Shikamaru." After seeing him, she called him out again in a louder strained voice, "Shikamaru!"
The boy woke up with a yawn and said, "Oh right, Sorry. I'm Shikamaru Nara. My main strengths are that I'm smart, plus my clan techniques. My main weaknesses are my laziness and my low stamina. I wish to be chunin in a few years, jounin a few years after that, so I want to go at it in a relaxed pace with this team."
That got a few grumbles from the other two, but she raised her hand to silence them.
"Ok then. Let's take some time to talk about this team's role. You three are a capture and interrogation team. All three of you have jutsu to capture without killing and can then interrogate them through Ino's techniques. I'll be teaching you 3 some genjutsu as well, to help with the interrogation."
It seemed like they all understood. The Nara even seemed to be expecting it.
"Now that that's out of the way, we'll begin training for it. we'll have a little test run tomorrow. You 3 will have to try capturing me, and I'll evade you with my jutsu. Be here by 7."
He was pissed. Why did his sensei have to be a genjutsu specialist of all things. He had been stumbling around for the past 30 minutes and getting knocked around by traps hiden with genjutsu. Ino, their sensor, was trying to find kurenai, but apparently kurenai could cast genjutsu to show fake chakra signatures, and by the time they manage to release one genjutsu she'd already cast multiple layers on top. Plus, she was ridiculously fast.
Shikamaru suddenly stopped, flopped on the ground and said in a bored voice, "I'm done. We have no chance without a way to find her. I'm going to sleep."
What the hell! He grabbed Shikamaru by the collar and yelled "Oi bastard! What are you saying?"
Shikamaru replied in the same annoying bored voice, "Am I wrong?"
He had to admit, Shikamaru was right. Ino seemed to understand, which was why she was silent, even though she was just as angry.
Damn it, how was he supposed to help find her. He wasn't a sensor. Unless...
He grimaced. He had a horrible idea, which was the only kind of idea he had.
he asked Shikamaru in a low voice, "If I can find her, can we capture her?"
Shikamaru asked "How exactly will you do that?"
"Doesn't matter. Can we succeed?"
Shikamaru replied, "Yes."
Ok then. Looks like he had to do it. This was going to suck.
A/N
Hope you enjoyed the chapter. As you can tell by now, I'm going to put some emphasis on the workings of various jutsu, with some sciencey stuff here and there. My dialogue writing sucks, as I'm still figuring it out. Any tips and advice would be great.
