Here's the first interlude chapter. Sakura begins the process of making her jutsu. Some stuff is actually from Konoha's Maelstrom, so I'm going to credit that here.
She was super excited, but she calmed herself down as Kakashi began to speak.
"All right, listen up cause I'm not going to be repeating myself. Now, jutsu creation isn't exactly a well-known art. Most created jutsu just slightly modify other existing jutsu. And even that can be risky. The more complex jutsu can kill when they aren't used properly, so you need to be careful each step of the way. There isn't an exact guideline to making a jutsu, but I'm going to give you the basic rundown I got from my sensei. First, you think of the kind of jutsu you want. It should either be supplementary, offensive or defensive. By supplementary I mean jutsu that gives the user an advantage without directly attacking or defending. While I've treated the 3 as separate categories, it's best if your jutsu, whatever it is, can be used in a variety of situations and isn't purely useful for one class of jutsu. Then you look at the 3 main categories of jutsu. There are of course many ways to classify jutsu, but for this purpose there is one particular way we'll be using. We classify them into 3: Emit, Reinforce and Combine. Emit is simply the set of jutsu that revolve around emitting chakra from the body and manipulating it to create various effects from thin air. This is typically chakra intensive and typically used for ninjutsu, though genjutsu is a good example of one that isn't bad in that respect. There is a lot of variety in this type, as you can have offensive, defensive or supplementary simple based on the nature of chakra you're using. Next is Reinforce. This involves the augmentation and manipulation of existing objects to create desired effects. This requires less chakra, but the requirement of whatever object is used can be a drawback. The most common use is of course with Taijutsu. Chakra flow techniques also come under this. This is generally either offensive or defensive. The more powerful attacks of this type come from doton or Suiton attacks when water or earth is available. And since water isn't necessarily always available, Doton is generally of this type. The last type is Combine. This is nothing more than a combination of the two types. This is incredibly rare. After you've narrowed down on a type, you decide on the specifics based on your skill set, your potential in various fields, and your innate abilities. And then, you get to work. The hand seals are actually not required for any jutsu, and they're generally used to help focus your chakra into certain forms and quicken the process of completing jutsu, since otherwise attacks would be too slow to use. But it's best to be able to use whatever jutsu you have in mind without seals.
Now, I'll give you an example. When I was making the Chidori, I simply started with the idea of a powerful attacking move. That's all I had to work with. I was already capable of using the Rasengan, but that took longer to create and is more chakra intensive. It also has another flaw that I won't go into here. So with that in mind, I considered which type of jutsu to use."
He paused there, and then asked, "Now, what type do you think the Chidori is ?"
She thought about it and almost answered with "Emit", but cut herself off, and after thinking it over a little more, said "Combine."
Kakashi clapped his hands and continued speaking "Excellent. I need to reinforce my hand with a special layer of chakra before Emitting and covering my hand with a lot of Lightning style chakra. I burnt a part of my skin before I could fully figure out how to create the special layer of chakra I use. Since I was a high speed lightning type offensive fighter already, I chose to create this kind of move. So, once I have that high powered chakra around my hand, I discharge it and vary the intensity to fit my needs. The most powerful version of this attack is of course when doing a high speed thrust with a running start. This leaves openings for counterattacks, but I can now avoid those with my Sharingan. And this jutsu doesn't need to be used that way anyway. It's really most deadly when used for assassinations. By sneaking up right behind the target, I can kill them while cutting through whatever defenses they raise up like it's butter. The jutsu itself got it's currently nickname of Raikiri when I cut through a bolt of lightning. Of course it wasn't a literal lightning bolt, it was a massive lighting style attack on my team by a team of Kumo Shinobi that took the form of a large bolt of lightning."
Huh, sensei was bragging. It was clear from how he'd gone on a long tangent about his jutsu. But she supposed it was justified in this instance. But there was one question she had. "Sensei, didn't the 3rd Raikage use something like this ? How was he able to avoid hurting himself ? And which attack is stronger ?"
Sensei looked a little miffed at that question as he said "I don't understand why people compare the 2. They're different jutsu. But anyway, the Raikage are able to use their lightning style armor because their body is capable of handling the strength of lightning they release through it. That isn't possible with the Chidori as the quantity of power of the lightning is far greater. The Hell Stab is nothing more than a slight extension of the lighting style chakra mode around the fingers. It's only as dangerous as it was because of the ridiculous physical abilities of it's user. The Chidori is far less reliant of things like that. As for which is stronger, it's hard to say. I don't believe either of our attacks have failed to cut through anything. Since the 3rd Raikage is dead, we can't know for sure."
He paused there, to check for any more questions. Since she had none, he continued speaking "All right, now it's your turn. Think about the things I've said so far. You don't really need to figure out the details of what jutsu you'll be using just yet. You just need to know whether the kind of move it is, and what type of jutsu it's classified as.'
After Kakashi left her with that assignment, she thought about it in her head. It couldn't be a purely offensive/defensive, as those couldn't really work as the basis of a fighting style. It needed to be something flexible. Given her low chakra reserves, it was probably best if it was something of the Reinforce type. Her chakra nature affinity was with earth. So maybe some jutsu to manipulate the earth in a certain shape ? It would best to have something small in scale that could work with her usual close to mid range combat fighting style. It would also have to be something of the size she could manipulate without hand seals. Just then, with that thought, she realized an interesting technique she could try. She wasn't sure if the particular idea she had in mind would work, but it would be interesting either way.
A/N
Hope you enjoyed that. It was mostly an infodump, but it was necessary. You've probably figured out the jutsu I'm going for.
See you next chapter.
