Adventure City
1 year before the event
The pups are sitting around a table in Ryder's Apartment. They're there for a different type of mission then normal, Instead of robbing a bank or stealing some files from the ACPD to help keep them all free and not behind bars they're going to hunt down a specific person. During their last few missions someone had been shooting at them from a distance but always just barely missing them, By the time the pups track where the bullet came from and arrive at the location the person is already gone.
"Already pups, first we're going to lure out this individual by staging a robbery at a small store on... this street!" Ryder said as he slammed his finger onto a specific street on the map.
"Why this street specifically?" Rocky asked him.
"There was no specific reason; it's just that we've done missions on this street the most, so you pups probably have it memorized by now. Anyway, you four do your standard routine, enter the building, find anything to steal, and get out. Everest and Skye will go after the person and deal with them; I'd prefer if you could get them back here alive, but I understand if that isn't possible." Ryder said to them all.
The pups went off to get their gear and get ready; Everest was excited that she was finally going to be central to a mission. She's normally only in missions to blow through a heavily-armored door or put a hole in the wall so the main crew can escape easier, but now she would finally do something more.
Skye wasn't as excited as Everest was; instead, she was nervous. She always chose to stay away from the mission's location, preferring to keep her distance and only going near long enough to drop off more supplies if Chase or Marshall requested them. Still, she was also tired of having to return to base with a bullet hole in her helicopter.
Once everyone was ready, the four main pups plus Rubble went to the van, while Everest and Skye went to her helicopter on the roof. They were instructed to land on a nearby rooftop and wait until they heard the gunshot. Once they did, they were to immediately locate it and try their best to get to its origin point before the person could escape.
45 minutes later.
All the pups were in position; Everest and Skye were on a nearby rooftop waiting to hear the gunshot. A few minutes later, Ryder told the other four to go into the building. Everest started looking everywhere she could for the person, after a few minutes, she spotted what looked like a Potcake holding a large rifle on top of a neighboring building.
"Skye, I see them!" Everest yelled to her teammate.
"Hmm? Where?" Skye asked her.
"Over there, on the roof." Everest told her while pointing in their direction.
"Sir, we found them. Should we approach?" Skye asked Ryder over her puptag.
"Sure, try to do it quietly if you can." Ryder responded.
"We'll try." Skye said before hanging up. Her and Everest then began sneaking their way toward the person.
"Be careful when we do get to them, they could be armed with more then a rifle." Everest told the Cockapoo next to her.
"Do you know what kind of rifle their using?" Skye asked her. Everest looked over the AC unit that she was using as cover and tried to examine the rifle from a distance, While examining the rifle however she noticed a small blade on the Potcakes leg.
"It looks like a bolt action but I can't exactly tell from this distance. Also they are indeed armed with another weapon, A small blade." Everest said to her.
"How long is the blade?" Skye asked her.
"You think I can tell?" Everest responded. They both started trying to get closer, still being as quiet as they could, despite how quiet they were however, they noticed the person take a quick glance behind him before looking down their rifle's scope again.
"That was close." Skye whispered to the husky.
"No kidding, how did he hear us?" Everest whispered back.
"I dunno." Skye responded.
They tried to get closer once again, they managed to get within 10 feet of them this time. They got behind another AC unit and sat there, after a few seconds they then heard the sound they had been waiting for.
BANG
After the gunshot they peaked their heads around cover and waited, The Potcake slid his rifle onto his back and then just sat there, He wasn't running like Everest and Skye expected him to. Instead, they both got caught off guard when they heard him speaking to them.
"I know you're there." The Potcake said. Everest stood up and rasied her paws in the air.
"Stay here." Everest whispered to Skye. "Alright you got me." Everest said to the Potcake while walking toward him.
"Need to work on your stealth a bit more amigo." The Potcake said to her.
"Hey! My stealth is perfectly fine, your just good at hearing." Everest responded.
"Ehh it could use improving. Anyway, how was your day? Everest." The Potcake said. Everest was extremely confused now and took a bit before speaking again.
"How do you-" Everest got cut off mid sentence.
"Don't worry about it, Name's Tracker. I heard there was a city that had a large crime issue so I arrived to see what i could do, You guys must be the PAW Patrol, You hiring?" Tracker asked.
"Uhh, maybe? I'm not sure you'd get the job however since you've been shooting at us constantly for the last few weeks." Everest told him. She reached behind her back and grabbed a small knife from her jacket.
"Well, I had to get y'alls attention somehow, I didn't want to arrive at your apartment and go 'Hey I want a job'." Tracker responded.
"Well, Luckily for you my boss told me to come get you, Preferably alive but he understood if that's not possible. so, you coming with me willingly or not?" Everest said to him. Tracker stood there silent, thinking.
"I'll come with you." Tracker replied.
"Good. C'mon, follow me." Everest said before starting to lead Tracker to the helicopter. Soon, Skye soon joined them, eyeing Tracker warily; she didn't fully trust him yet.
About a minute later they got back to the helicopter and hopped in, Skye started flying back to the apartment while Everest called Ryder on her puptag.
"Hello Everest." Ryder said to her.
"Hey Ryder, We got the person you requested, we're on the way back now." Everest told her leader.
"Is he alive?" Ryder asked.
"Yep, he didn't even resist." Everest said.
"Alright, I'll tell the rest of the pups to return." Ryder said before hanging up. Everest then turned to look at Tracker.
"I will warn you, One of the others may punch you when we get there." Everest told him.
"Yeah, I'm expecting it honestly." Tracker responded. The rest of the ride was almost completely silent, except for the engine and the whirring of the helicopter blades.
After a while, they returned to the apartment and all three entered. They sat down at the table in the middle of the room while waiting for the other five pups to return. While waiting for them, Tracker and Ryder started talking to one another. Everest made sure to take away Tracker's weapons before letting him near Ryder.
"So, You're just looking for a job?" Ryder asked.
"Yep." Tracker responded.
"Y'know, If you just wanted to work for us you could've done it in other ways." Ryder told him.
"That didn't involve almost taking our heads off every other day." Skye added.
"I wasn't aware y'all had an actual system for new members to join; I just thought you guys hired random pups off the streets and gave them training." Tracker said. Skye started growling quietly at him, wanting to rip his face off. They soon heard the door to the apartment open and saw the rest of the crew walk in. They all stopped and looked at Tracker before looking at Ryder.
"Pups, This is Tracker, You might know him as the guy that kept harassing you with bullets." Ryder said to all the pups. Tracker started walking over to them to say hello.
"Hey guys, Sorry about th-" Tracker got interrupted by Chase punching him in the jaw and knocking him to the ground.
"Alright, I might deserve that." Tracker said while getting back up.
"Consider us even now." Chase said before going to his room to put up his gear.
"You okay dude?" Zuma asked him while helping him off the ground.
"Yeah, I expected something similar to that, I assume he's the one in charge here?" Tracker asked.
"Yes, unfortunately." Rubble responded.
"Hey, he's not that bad." Skye said, defending Chase. The other pups looked at her with a 'really?' expression on their faces. "Okay, maybe he can be a little strict." Skye admitted. The other pups started talking to Tracker, surprisingly, none of them seemed too upset with him for shooting at them.
After a few minutes, Ryder and Rocky told Tracker to follow them and led him to a room in the back of the apartment, When they entered Ryder grabbed a blank mask and a few bottles of paint and threw them on a table in front of Tracker.
"What do you want me to do with these?" Tracker said while picking up the mask and looking at it.
"Design your mask, if you're going to join the PAW Patrol you need a mask to hide your identity." Ryder told him.
Tracker painted a red X on the forehead of the mask, after that he took off his bandana and wrapped it around the bottom half of the mask then put it on and looked at Ryder.
"Done." Tracker said to him. Ryder stood there just staring at him for a few seconds before speaking.
"That works I guess, I'll go get you a puptag." Ryder said before leaving the room.
"That's a very simple mask." Rocky said to him.
"I like things being simple." Tracker responded.
"If it works, it works." Rocky said. Ryder then reentered the room holding a puptag and a collar, He put the collar on Tracker then attached the puptag to it.
"Welcome to the PAW Patrol, Tracker."
