Chapter 3
"A Bone in the Tower"
At first glance, you may think that we were, like, heading for a Disney vacation and checking out four really cool theme parks. But nope, we came all the way out to Disney World to solve a mystery. Still, Scooby and I would have liked nothing more than to do something that didn't involve ghosts.
Instead of riding an attraction, we were in the back of a Team Disney security van heading for River Country.
"You know," remarked one of the security guards driving us as we sat in the back of the van. "Mr. Mouse has always held you in high regard."
"He has?" I asked, looking at Scooby with a confused look. "Does he have an advanced copy of our video game?"
"He doesn't play video games, he has no time, none of them do."
"That's too bad," sighed Agent Gordon. "I mean, I know some people that are workaholics."
"Barb, stop it," sighed Beau, burying his face in his hands. "You know damn well that I am not a workaholic. Really I'm not."
"Oh really?" Agent Gordon remarked with a sly look on her face.
"But these ghosts are preventing the park from expanding," Daphne said. "You all saw the look on Mickey's face. He wants to build a new resort on River Country, but the ghosts are preventing it from happening. I mean, if my family had owned a theme park like Disney World, they certainly wouldn't want to have any outside intrusion from the other world."
At that moment, Fred turned his attention to the guards.
"Have you guys ever seen the ghosts for yourselves?"
"Some of us had, son," replied the guard in the passenger seat of the van. "They are the ghosts of kids, kids that died under unfortunate circumstances: drowning, brain eating amoeba, murder."
Hearing this caused Fred's eyes to widen in shock at what he had just heard. To him, the word murder was like, so random, in a bad way of course.
Turning right onto World drive, we suddenly were driving into a wooded area that almost could pass for a campground. Like, since when do people go camping in Florida? I thought Florida was for the beaches and the theme parks. Eventually, we drove up to a sign that seemed to be in good condition.
"Here we are, folks," announced the security guard driving the van. "Disney's River Country, closed since 2001."
Getting out of the van, we all saw the sign that said "Welcome to River Country…open daily from 10am to 5pm." Like if they would close the park for good, they could have taken the sign with them.
"Certainly looks like a campground," remarked Velma, who then took notice of, like, a medium sized water tower. "What's that?"
"It looks to me like an old water tower," Daphne replied, looking up at the structure. "Do you think there could still be water in there?"
Everyone then looked over to me and Scooby as if they wanted us to investigate for ourselves.
"Like, what are you looking at us for?" I asked, suddenly backing away. "I'm sure that there is no water in there, right Scooby?"
"Reah."
"What do you think is in there?" asked Fred, who grew more and more curious now that he had a hunch that a murder took place here on Disney property. "If it's water, it might be contaminated."
"Only one way to find out," Beau said, going back to the van and pulling out a small flamethrower he had brought with him. "Shaggy, take this flamethrower and burn a hole underneath the tower."
"Me? I don't wanna get burned!" I protested as Beau held the flamethrower in front of me and Scooby. But, Velma had a way to get us to cooperate.
"How about for a Scooby Snax?" she asked, holding a box of Scooby Snax in her hand. This made us change our minds immediately.
"Like, gimme!" I cried, snatching the flamethrower out of Beau's hands.
…
Walking over to the tower, I took the flamethrower and raised it above my head, right underneath the tower. All I could do was hope that there was nothing inside of it. After a few moments, I managed to produce a small hole in the tower.
"Looks like there's nothing in here," I said, but I wasn't prepared for what came next as some dirty water came out of the tower! Yelping, I ducked out of the way as the water came down, really disgusting dirty water! "Guess I spoke too soon."
Beau then reached for his radio and proceeded to call the nearby FBI office to send out a lab technician. Suddenly, something totally unexpected happened as, like, a bone was found on the ground. Being a dog, Scooby went to investigate, wondering where the bone came from.
"Hold it, Scoob!" called Fred who already had a scared look on his face and gesturing for Scooby to come back to him. "I've got a feeling that something's up here."
"What is it, Fred?" Velma asked as he walked over to look at the bone. After a few moments, Fred turned around and we all saw his face like was white as a ghost.
"It's a bone, a human bone!" Fred gasped as Daphne did one of her crazy gestures pointing to her head, heart and shoulders. "Mother of God."
A human bone? Why would a human bone be in a water tower? For that matter, who would want to even be up in a tower to begin with?
But that would be the least of our worries had a mysterious figure not been watching us from behind a tree.
"Excellent," laughed Reverend Kane. "I've got the eggs all in one basket. Soon, the spirits of Daphne Blake and her meddlesome friends will be mine!"
And Reverend Kane quickly disappeared to do whatever it was he was setting out to do.
