Chapter 7
"No Day at the Beach"
Now before we go into whether or not Daphne survived her fall, like, let's focus on what me, Scoob and Velma were up to. This part of the park was, how shall I put it, a dream beach that turned into a nightmare beach. There was sand, but not to build a sandcastle, much to our slight annoyance. There were abandoned beach chairs and umbrellas still stuck in the sand. Like, how could these things still be standing after 20 years? You would think that hurricanes, tornadoes or anything would take these things away from here. Something spooky about this was going through my mind.
"Like, who would just leave a mess here?" I wondered touching one of the beach umbrellas, to which felt rough. "Not to mention a painful mess."
"Be careful with those umbrellas, Shaggy," Velma warned me, to which I thought she told me sooner. "They are covered in rust."
Looking at my slightly cut palm of my hand, I could get her point.
"Like, I see what you mean, Vel."
Putting my "rough encounter" behind me, I started scouring the beach for clues and I soon came across another beach chair with what appeared to be a pair of sandals underneath.
"Hey, who left their shoes here?" I asked myself, picking up one of the sandals that was torn and worn. "Oh, well, their loss, my gain. A little TLC and these shoes will be good as new for our next beach adventure, right Scooby?"
Then all of a sudden, Scooby directed me to another beach chair and there out of the sand was a pair of sunglasses, with one of the frames broken.
"I don't think these are mine, Scooby," I said, pulling the sunglasses out of the sand. "Does it look like I wear sunglasses like these to you?"
"Ri Ron't Row."
Still, I couldn't help but place the sunglasses on to at least try them out. Maybe it was the beach atmosphere of the park, but I felt like it.
"Like, I'm like a one eyed pirate with glasses," I chuckled playfully, much to Scooby's delight. "Avast, matey! Captain Shaggy has come to steal your treasure!"
But the laughter stopped when Velma called me and Scooby over when she made a discovery of her own.
"Like, what is it, Velma?" I asked as we met Velma in the area known as Kiddie cove. "Kiddie cove? Velma, like, I'm too old to be here! Do I look like a kid to you?"
"But look!"
Velma reached down in the sand and much to our surprise, there was a blood stained knife buried in the sand.
"A knife?" I asked, wanting to pick up the knife, but Velma stopped me from picking it up. "Like, who would leave a knife here? Unless, is Jack Nicholson around here because if he is..."
"Someone who is either a devoted fan of River Country or a deranged human being," Velma declared. "And no, it's not Jack Nicholson. He used an axe in The Shining, not a knife. Anyways, we might as well have the technicians take a closer look."
Suddenly, Velma gasped and there standing in front of us was like, a dude that was around the age of 12. He had nothing but a t-shirt and blue swim trunks on. Like, what was this dude doing here in an abandoned water park?
"You again!" Velma gasped, seemingly recognizing the ghost. "What do you want with me?"
Almost as if on cue, the spirit floated over towards us and as he floated, I could hear growls from inside his head.
"Much," he whispered, extending his hand out to us.
"Who are you?" I asked, whimpering and trembling.
"Ask me who I was."
"All right," I gulped. "Who were you then?"
"In life, I was Michael McNaughton," the ghost answered. "I came here for a vacation with my family and was swimming here one moment and the next moment, I'm a wandering spirit."
"How did you get like this?" Velma asked.
"Something got inside me," answered the ghost in a frightened tone. "I don't know how it happened, but it started with a headache and a fever, then I threw up, became confused and I suddenly began shaking violently and the next...I ended up like this."
It was apparent that something got inside of him and killed him. Like, who would want to kill someone like this little dude?
"But, that's not important right now," the ghost said, hastily. "You must leave this park before it's too late. He will kill you."
But the inquisitiveness of Velma didn't listen to him. Like, if there was a time to not be a bookworm, this was it.
"Why?" she asked. "What happened here?"
"Please, you must go now," the ghost begged. "I swear on my soul that he will kill you."
"Who will?" I asked again and suddenly, we all heard a loud roar and a loud scream as we saw Daphne flying through the air, seemingly being thrown into a large pool. "Yikes, Daphne! Come on, Scooby!"
"Wait for me!" cried Velma.
With the instinct to flee the ghost and help Daphne in my mind, I charged over to the situation with Scooby and Velma following me. As we ran as fast as our legs would let us, the ghost just stayed at Kiddie Cove and let me tell you that it wouldn't be the last we saw of him.
But, like, that was the least of our worries as some blob monsters came out of pool, roaring loudly as we saw Fred and Clarice being towered over by them.
"What's that?!" I screamed in horror as a giant squid like creature materialized out of the blob, with its tentacles flailing down on our friends while another started to mold into a gel like giant creature.
Like, when is enough going to be enough, huh? How hard is it to ask for one day, just one day where we wouldn't have to solve any mysteries and just relax?
