Chapter 12

"Onto Discovery Island"

Like, we just got a wrench thrown our way. The idea that we would be on Discovery Island in addition to River Country was certainly not what we were expecting. But we were on our way and there was no use in arguing about it.

"Sorry if the other boats weren't available," said a Team Disney employee as he and another employee brought out a pair of canoes. "These will have to do."

"Why couldn't they get that boat with the rotating wheel in the back?" I asked Scooby, to which he replied that he didn't know.

"You mean, the Mark Twain? Sorry, that's in California," the employee answered as the boats were put in the water. "Our riverboat has been out of commission and is not seaworthy. I mean, you wouldn't want to be on a sinking boat, would you?"

"Come on, guys, it'll be good for your upper muscles," Velma said, handing me and Scooby a couple of oars. "You can at least burn off some of that food from last night at dinner."

Like, I wish we were reliving that dinner again. I gotta tell you, a dinner buffet is the ultimate in stress relief to a man and his dog.

Still, we got into the boats and proceeded towards the island, which was like nothing but jungle, just like what Mickey said. Of course, we weren't the only boats as the FBI had several more canoes right behind us. Like, part of me was thinking we should just stay off the island and, I don't know, do what many families do down here, which is explore the parks?

"Would you look at that?" Daphne whispered, amazed by the sight of Mother Nature taking Discovery Island back for herself. "You can't even see anything, nothing. At least I'm wearing overalls."

Once again, Daphne had chosen to wear one of her outfits from when we were working for Vincent Van Ghoul wearing a purple one-piece mechanic's overalls, with a belt and lilac pixie boots. Appropriate, but I'm not into her interest in fashion.

"And they say that this island is closed to the public," Fred whispered. "I can see why."

As we got closer and closer to the island, the more and more all of us were becoming wary of even setting foot. Who knew what would be going on in there? At least in my mind as well as Scooby's, at least? There could be more than a ghost in there, there could be a wild animal, a cannibal or worse!

Soon, we got to the dock and we each climbed out of the canoes one by one. Stepping onto the dock was even more disturbing, like there were some boards that looked like they could give way at any moment. Like, I didn't want to be sleeping with the fishes.

"All right," Beau said as he looked down at a map that was given to us by the Disney Employees. "I say we cover a section of the island. 5 of you will go north, 5 of you will go east, 5 of you will go west and the other 5 stay here in the south."

"Fred and I will head north," Daphne declared. "Velma, you Shaggy and Scooby go east."

"Says who?" Velma wondered.

"I say," Fred answered, taking the map away from Beau. "There's a lot of bamboo in that forest over there and I think we should have it covered."

"I agree with Fred and Daphne," said Beau. "If there is one thing that criminals will often do is hide their work in the bushes."

"I'll go with them," said Clarice, walking over to Velma, me and Scooby. "I'm already detecting spirits in the bamboo forest."

"Good," declared Beau. "Let's all split up and meet back here in an hour, agreed?"

With our agreement made, we went into various directions to cover what we could cover on the island.

Meanwhile, as we crossed onto the island, our old friend Reverend Kane was watching our every move. I couldn't tell, but he had that look on his face that showed he didn't want any screw ups from River Country.

"I hope that my servant obeys me this time," he said while standing on the dock. "I will not tolerate another mess up on his part if I have anything to say about it."

And with that, Reverend Kane disappeared from view and left whatever work was to be done against us to his servant…whoever he was.

Yet at the same time, Daisy Duck had just finished doing her 15 minute news show and no sooner did she complete it was Mickey standing behind camera.

"Mickey, this just isn't right," Daisy sighed as she got up from the news desk. "You are making me fabricate the stories that the employees need to know."

"Business is business, Daisy, you know that, ha ha."

"I mean, what do we have to do to keep the truth from the employees? The rumors of what had happened yesterday at River Country, they are true. Two kraken were found and they fought the FBI. 3 agents are dead and..."

"Not another word, ha ha!" Mickey interrupted, extending his hand out to Daisy. "I won't hear anymore. Just keep doing what you are doing up to my standards, all right?"

And Mickey left the studio, leaving Daisy feeling frustrated and bitter.

"He is such a dick," Daisy muttered to herself as she gathered the papers from the news desk. "I mean, why can't Mickey face the truth sometimes? Sometimes the spiritual has to take over the news in our world because that's how it is. Oh well, at least tomorrow's news show is another day."

Returning to her office, Daisy contemplated the facts that Mickey was not going to be in denial for any longer.
