Chapter 19-Rude

Knocked on your door with heart in my hand

To ask you a question

'Cause I know that you're an old fashioned man

Yeah (yeah)

Can I have your daughter for the rest of my life?

Say yes, say yes, 'cause I need to know

You say I'll never get your blessin' 'til the day I die

"Tough luck, my friend, but the answer is no"

Why you gotta be so rude?

Don't you know I'm human too?

Why you gotta be so rude?

I'm gonna marry her anyway

-MAGIC!-

Lizzie.

On the Morning of Christmas Day, I shot awake as a small cannonball landed on top of me.

"Lizzie. Lizzie. Lizzie. Bucky. Bucky. Bucky. Wake uup!" Morgan chanted loudly and I heard the man next to me groan as my little sister crawled over the both of us. He let out a soft grunt as he was kneed in the stomach as she all but jumped over him.

"Come on, get up, it's Christmas!" Morgan shouted excitedly and ran around the room.

"We'll be right there, Little One," I called sleepily and watched the small girl rush into the other room. I turned to Bucky who had his eyes closed and a small smile playing on his lips.

"Now I understand why you forced me to put on my boxers last night," he muttered, voice rough from sleep. I giggled softly and stroked his face lightly, he grabbed my hand and kissed my palm gently, his stubble tickling my skin.

"Morning Doll," he muttered.

"Good morning, and yes I knew Morgan would be here early," I said with a small smile. He groaned and grabbed my waist and pulled me closer.

"I wish we hadn't stayed up talking with the others so late after dinner," he muttered, voice still rough. I giggled and kissed his jawline.

"Sorry Baby," I said and his lips twitched. I started to get up and only turned when I realized that he wasn't moving.

"Come on Buck, before Morgan comes and cannonballs you again," I laughed as he rolled out of bed and joined me in the bathroom.
We joined my family in the penthouse where gifts were exchanged. We would all get together for Christmas dinner and enjoy eachothers company, no extravagant Christmas Party this year.

I looked around the room and felt content, things were finally back to normal.

New Years Eve, Bucky.

Why was I this nervous? It was ridiculous, I wiped my right hand on my pants as I stared at the glass double doors.

I watched the man in the office flitter around his desk, tinkering with various objects that I didn't know what was. I ran my fingers through my hair and raised my fist knocking on the door. His brown eyes, so alike both his daughters, glanced up and he held up a hand motioning for me to enter the room.

"I was wondering how long you were planning on standing there staring into space Robocop," he snarked and I scowled. I took a deep breath and pushed down all the sarcastic comments that came to mind, I was here for a reason and that was more important than telling off Tony fucking Stark.

"Sta-, uh, Tony I need to speak to you about something," I said grimacing at the sound of my own voice. I sounded so nervous, stuttering and stumbling over my words. I watched as his eyebrows shot up in surprise at the use of his first name.

"Oh? What about," he asked as he walked around the desk and sat down, the air in the room changed at once. He motioned for me to sit as well as he studied me curiously. The snide remarks were gone and the look of irritation that he seemed to have in his eyes every time he saw me was gone. I gingerly sat down in front of him and took another deep breath. You can do this Barnes, I thought as I looked at the man in front of me.

"It's about Elisabeth," I began and I watched as his whole body tensed and he leaned forward.

"Is she alright, did something-, did you-," I held up a hand to stop his ramblings and he clamped his mouth shut. I observed his tense shoulders and rigid posture, realizing too late that my choice of words had made him nervous and worried.

"It's nothing like that," I said softly and he raised an eyebrow at the tone of my voice.

"Well then, what exactly is it?" he asked, and I scowled at his impatient tone. Did he not see how uncomfortable this whole situation made me? I shook my head at my own thought, of course he did but Stark didn't take things like that into consideration unless it was directed at his daughters or his wife.

"I want you to know that I love your daughter very much," I began and I smirked slightly at the surprised look that took over his face.

"So, I've come here to ask," I sighed, rubbing the small bulge in my left pocket distractedly. I glanced down before looking up at the dark haired man that was eyeing me curiously.

"I wanted to ask you, if I have your permission to ask Lizzie to marry me,". The room was silent as we stared at each other. His face gave nothing away as he scratched his chin, seemingly deep in thought.

"You know she'll kill you if she ever finds out you actually asked me this," he said, his lips twitching and I couldn't hold back a smile of my own.

"I know, but I'm an old fashioned man," he snorted and muttered;

"Oh you're old alright," I scowled at him for what felt like the hundredth time but didn't bother commenting. He took off his tinted glasses and looked at me with a tilt of his head. The whole motion reminded me of Lizzie and I couldn't stop the small smile that made its way onto my face.

"I'm going to be honest with you here Barnes. I wasn't exactly thrilled when I learned of this relationship that you have with my Munchkin," I snorted and he gave me a look so I didn't speak up.

"However, I know how much she loves you and you obviously love her too. I can see how happy you make her and you have been nothing but good to her," he paused and studied me.

"So yes, you have my permission. Not that you need it," he waved his hand around and I let out a small huff of air. I stood and nodded at him.

"Thanks Tony," I said with a genuine smile. I knew that I didn't need his permission but I knew that my Ma' would have had my head if I didn't at least ask.

"Barnes," he called when I was about to leave and I turned back towards him.

"Just out of curiosity, what would you have done if I had said no," he was studying me intently and I smirked at him before answering;

"I would have asked her anyway,".

New Years Eve, Lizzie.

"-5, -4, -3, -2, -1, HAPPY NEW YEAR!" the whole room called together as we watched the ball drop on the large screen. It was a flurry of party crackers, well wishes and toasts and I barely registered the vibranium arm that snaked around my waist before I was pulled against a hard body.

"Happy New Years, Doll," his husky voice whispered in my ear and goosebumps erupted all over my skin. I turned and smiled up at him.

"Happy New Year," I whispered before his lips crashed with mine. We broke apart breathing heavily and just stared at each other before we were pulled into hugs by our friends.

The party started to die down an hour later and it was just the Avengers sitting around talking.

"So Munchkin, what time were you planning on leaving?" my dad said casually as he sipped on his champagne, leaning against the sofa and everyone turned towards me in confusion. Especially, the dark haired man sitting next to me looked extremely puzzled at the casually thrown out question.

"You're leaving?" he asked, furrowing his brow. I tried to hide the smile that was threatening to break out by taking a sip of my drink.

"Didn't I tell you, I'm taking a vacation," I said in an airy tone, looking anywhere but right at him. I could see the confused and amused looks of the team as they watched the scene unfold.

"Excuse me?" he said, grabbing my chin and turning my head towards him. I fluttered my lashes at him but his serious face didn't budge an inch. I sighed dramatically and finally let the smile I was holding back shine through.

"Well Babe, you didn't really think that all I got you for Christmas was that leather jacket," I winked at him as he tilted his head to the side, urging me to continue without words.

"I may or may not have booked us a little vacation, we're leaving in the morning," I said softly looking at him. A smile started to spread over his face as he shook his head.

"You're amazing, you know that Babydoll?" he whispered, leaning his forehead against mine.

"So are we all invited to this vacation or?" Sam's voice interrupted our moment followed by a loud smacking noise as Nat smacked his chest in annoyance.

"Way to ruin the moment Wilson!"

"Way to break my ribs, Romanoff!" he said, rubbing his side as everyone else laughed.

"Sorry Birdman, it's just Bucky and me this time," I grinned and hugged the blue eyed Super Soldier tightly.

Neverland Island, New Years Day, Bucky.

"This island has a funny name," I said as I stared at the sign welcoming us to the private island we would be spending the week on. Apparently Tony owned a whole island, not that it surprised me at all.
Lizzie laughed and grabbed my hand as we walked towards the car that would take us to where we would be staying.

"Yeah I know. Dad bought this a couple of years ago and named it after the book Peter Pan," she grinned when she saw my confusion.

"The boy who never wanted to grow up seemed appropriate at the time," she rolled her eyes and tugged on my arm. I looked around as we drove through a small village, the people waving at us as we drove by. The vegetation was thick as we rode along the small road but soon we reached a small clearing.

I studied the "cabin" that Lizzie had talked about, well house was probably a better word for it. It was a modern one story house that didn't look out of place even if it should have. I followed Lizzie as she unlocked the doors and walked into a large open-concept kitchen and living area.

"Wow, and this is the guest house?" She turned and directed the man carrying our luggage before turning and smiling at me.

"Yeah, you know my dad, he never does anything half-way,". She turned and spoke quietly to the man and they hugged quickly before he left. She held out her hand towards me and I took it, following her as she led me around. The bedroom had a wall made up entirely of windows and sliding doors, with a spectacular vore over the ocean and the private beach connected to the house. A large bathroom, much like the one at Lizzies quartets back at the compound, was connected to the bedroom.

"This place is amazing," I said quietly and looked over my shoulder, only to do a double take when I saw the mischievous smile she was sporting. Lizzie tilted her head, bit her lip slightly and then in a swift motion lifted the dress she was wearing over her head. How it had escaped me that she wasn't wearing anything underneath it was beyond my comprehension.

My mouth went dry as I stared at the giggling woman that ran past me and out on the wrap around porch. I followed her outside and just about made it to see her naked form dive into the ocean without any hesitation. I walked up to the edge and watched as she resurfaced laughing and waving at me.

"Come one, Buck! Join me," she called and floated on her back. I didn't waste any time shedding my clothes and jumping in after her. The water felt cool but not cold against my clammy skin as I swam around. Lizzie giggled as I grabbed her waist and pulled her in for a kiss.

"This is amazing," I mumbled against her lips and I felt her smile.

Our days on the Island consisted of sleeping, eating, sex and exploring. Most of the time we had no idea what time of the day it was and the days floated together. It was exactly what we needed after our hectic fall.

From the moment we found Lizzie with Zemo up until Christmas had been filled with so many events and stress, our alone time together had been limited and this was truly a break we needed.

I poked the burning embers of the small fire we had made on the beach and glanced over at my girl that was dancing in the waves, laughing with her head thrown back. The moonlight made her dark hair shine and newly tanned skin looked even darker. She looked so relaxed, it made me smile.

We had eaten our last dinner in the village with many of the people that lived here all year round, taking care of the place. It had sort of felt like we were back on our undercover mission, so normal and nobody treated us any differently or stared. That would happen regularly back at the city.

"What's on your mind, Babe," she called, twirling around and almost tripping over her own feet. I chuckled and shook my head but didn't answer. My hand went to my pocket and the small box that had been a permanent addition to my person for weeks now.

I hadn't planned to do this now, here. I hadn't even known about this trip or this place but watching my girl in the moonlight staring out at the ocean I knew.

I slowly stood up and walked up to her, she didn't even turn so caught up in admiring the view. I took a deep breath and stepped up behind her, pulling her against my body. She leaned against me without hesitation and relaxed in my arms.

"I love you," she whispered, not taking her eyes off the moon. I gently rested my chin on her head and squeezed her body closer to mine.

"There was a time when I didn't think I deserved happiness. When I was certain that I would spend the rest of my time on this earth alone," I spoke softly and felt her try to turn in my arms but I held her still.

"Then, you walked into my life and I knew, right then and there that nothing would ever be the same," I said and released her, stepping back one step and falling down on one knee. I watched as she turned around, her brows furrowed at first but when her eyes met mine her mouth fell open slightly in surprise.

"I used to question everything, but then I met you and everything about my life started to make sense. Elisabeth Stark, you are the love of my life and I can't imagine my future without you in it. You have reminded me of who I used to be and made me see what kind of man I want to and can be," I felt the words that were spilling out of my mouth catch in my throat as I watched the tears that streamed down her cheeks.

"Will you marry me?" I whispered and took out the white-gold vintage diamond ring I had found in an Antique Shop months ago and couldn't leave behind once I saw it. I held my breath as she just stared at me silently for what felt like minutes but in reality it was probably just a few seconds. I wouldn't have registered any movement if I hadn't had my enchanted senses so I quickly put my arms out as she tackled me into the sand. She was laughing through her tears as she kissed me and I kissed her back grinning like a fool. She pulled back and I just looked at her for a second.

"Is that a yes?" She laughed loudly and smacked my chest.

"What do you think Bucky, of course it's a yes!" I didn't think I could smile any wider but somehow I managed it. I kissed her again and then sat up with her in my lap and gently slid the ring onto her finger. She studied the ring as it sparkled in the moonlight. It wasn't a huge stone, but very classy and elegant.

"It's beautiful," she whispered with a smile. I pushed a strand of her hair behind her ear and grinned.

"Like you," she gave me a look but couldn't hide her blush or her smile.

"I was planning on waiting, but this place, this moment felt like a good one," I mumbled, looking at her hand as she turned it, admiring the ring from different angles. She looked at me and sniffled a bit.

"It was perfect, I love you," she leaned in for yet another kiss and I hummed against her lips.

"I love you too,".
