The house is empty.
She's forgotten what it's like, since Percy is usually home when she is. Or even if he isn't, the traces of him are all around, dishes in the sink, a jacket lying around a chair, the smell of his cologne lingering in the bathroom.
But everything is cleaned up and cleared away. No laptops left open or blankets strewn about.
Sighing, she drops her purse on the entryway table and beelines for her favorite place nowadays, the closet.
The closet holds the most marked traces of him, a few jeans and sweaters he didn't take with him. A reminder that she isn't fully alone.
That he isn't completely gone.
Okay, so maybe she's being dramatic. He texts her as often as he can and sends her pictures and reminds her to eat the food that he meal-prepped.
Still, can't a girl miss her boyfriend?
Groaning, she trudges out of the closet and flops down on the bed, unable to stop herself from thinking that if he was here, he'd be pulling her close and kissing her head.
But there's nothing except the ceiling to stare at.
"A trip?"
"Yeah, Paul won this raffle thing at his work so we're going on a family trip to Hawaii. Of course," he adds, shooting her a smile, "you're invited."
"I'd love to, but when is it?" she asks, already anticipating her shooting schedule getting in the way of what should be a great vacation with her boyfriend and his family.
Sometimes, she hates being right.
"Oh," Percy says when she breaks the news. The smile on his face slips a little and her heart sinks even further.
"But hey, it'll be some good family time for you!" she encourages, with a smile. "Enjoy hanging out with your sister!"
His smile returns. "Yeah, that's true. I'll miss you, though."
"It's only three weeks, you'll be back before you know it and begging to go back," she teases, even though she has a feeling she'll be missing him every second.
"Nah," he jokes, grin back in full swing.
Well, here she is, missing him.
This shoot has been particularly difficult and coming home to Percy has been a huge reason she's been able to make it through. Not having him here makes everything tougher.
"How did I do this before him?" she asks the ceiling.
Well, she still can do it. She is currently doing it.
She just doesn't want to.
A day off, she thinks as the exhaustion catches up to her, that's what I need. Her last thought before falling asleep is of Percy's sea-green eyes.
-.-
She wakes up disoriented to darkness and an empty stomach. Right…this is what she gets for skipping dinner.
Her phone blinds her for a solid four seconds before she reads the time, 3:47 AM. There's a text from Percy that wakes her up right away, though and she opens it to a picture of ocean at sunset and his hand making a peace sign against the sky.
It's so cute that she stares for a few seconds with a smile on her face. A smile that lessens when her phone buzzes, revealing Rachel's name.
"Hello?" she answers, hoping nothing bad is happening. Given the time, she doubts it's good news, and she prepares herself for whatever her manager has to say.
"Annabeth." Per usual, Rachel gets right into it. "Bunch of drama just went down with Mr. D." The producer of the movie she's working on? Great.
Before she can ask, Rachel continues. "Nothing to do with you, they're sorting it out. But basically, filming is halted for tomorrow and maybe the day after."
"What?"
"I know," Rachel lets out a sigh. "It's putting us behind schedule, but what can you do."
"Wait," Annabeth's head is still catching up, "so I have tomorrow and the next day off?"
"I guess..." Rachel hesitates. "But they might figure things out and you have to come in the day after. Tomorrow is definitely called off though."
"Yes!" Annabeth actually punches the air in her excitement.
"Huh?"
"I'll be off, thanks for letting me know Rachel! You're the best!"
"Okay but what do you mean-"
But Annabeth has already hung up the phone and is pulling up flights.
Better late than never, right?
-.-
It doesn't occur to her until she's already on the plane that maybe Percy won't like her crashing his family vacation.
But by then, it's too late to go back. Then again, she's always been a little impulsive. She had to be in order to jump on opportunities that came her way in this business, but maybe she should have thought this one out better.
Then again, when it comes to Percy, she's even worse.
Throwing caution to the wind to date him in the first place and now forgetting anything else other than her need to see him again.
He did invite her, she reminds herself. And he's been texting her that he wished she was there.
It'll be fine, she tells herself, leaning back in an attempt to catch up on sleep.
-.-
It's pretty easy to spot Percy once she gets to the resort.
It's easy because Estelle is shrieking with laughter loud enough to grab her attention and then there is her boyfriend, wearing a flower crown on his head, clearly trying to look angry and failing.
It's so cute her heart squeezes at the sight. Or maybe that's just the effect from seeing him in person again. God, she's down so bad.
She watches him lean down so Estelle can take the flower crown off his head and then promptly runs off with it, presumably in the direction of Sally and Paul.
His smile lights up the entire beach and now her heart is starting to race in anticipation. With a small shake of his head in Estelle's direction, Percy takes out his phone and starts to type something.
A second later her phone buzzes as his text come through, a picture of him in a flower crown.
To know that he wanted to share this moment with her has her falling head over heels for him all over again.
Immediately, she calls him.
"Hello?" he answers on the first ring. "Annabeth?"
"Why do you sound unhappy to hear me?" she teases, watching him smile and shake his head as he hears her words.
"No, I'm just surprised, it's great to hear your voice."
"How's it going?" she asks. "How is everything there? The pictures are really cute."
"The flowers were Estelle's idea. But it's good, it's really pretty here." He turns towards the ocean. "The view is gorgeous."
She can't help but agree, outlining his back silhouetted against the blue sky and teal water with her eyes. A gorgeous view indeed.
"I'm glad you're having fun."
"Yeah, I mean it'd be perfect if you were here, but I'll take what I can get. Your voice is enough." He sighs dramatically drawing out a giggle from her.
She quickly walks over to him, stopping inches from his back.
"Is my voice enough?" she asks, snaking her arms around his middle.
He jumps, immediately spinning around and every doubt that had entered her head disappears at the sight of his smile.
He doesn't say anything, just pulls her into a kiss that turns her whole world around.
And honestly, it's all she needs.
