Although it is pokemon battles which today fill Galar's great stadiums, like they do stadiums everywhere in the world, many were built with a different sport in mind. Watching pokemon play Goal Roll was once even more popular than watching them fight, and the sport still occupies arenas on the days between pokemon tournaments. And while Golduck and Hitmonlee remain mainstays in the region, it is Raboot which, to many Galarians, has come to symbolize this sport.

Raboot, unlike most pokemon to reach the highest levels in any competition, have not finished their evolution – a fact which in their case leaves them more energetic than Cinderace and hungrier for triumph. They speed across the pitch, often forgotten or undetected by their opponents, until a black and white blur launches the ball into the goal. Their celebrations often seem overwrought to teammates and coaches, with pyrotechnic displays that invoke powers they can rarely actually demonstrate, but these ninjas of the Goal Roll pitch often win over younger fans for their style as much as their scoring prowess.

A game of Goal Roll can not last forever - a fact which older pokemon may appreciate, as it offers them time to recover - yet Raboot's obsession with the game does not fade with the final whistle. Even when fighting in battles or exploring the wilderness with their trainers, they will eagerly kick around berries, Geodude, and any other round objects in sight. Although they are not bad fighters, at least at lower levels, many trainers observe that they are more interested in scoring on opponents than knocking them out. More than one Raboot has been knocked out when a shared arena did not remove the Goal Roll nets before being used for pokemon battles – yet every Raboot in this situation still considered itself the winner.
