It's a normal day in Skyloft, the citizens are going around living their life, the older ones working in the bazar, their protector spirit watching over them like normal... Except it isn't.

The guardian spirit Levias was somehow sealed in a storm cloud now known as the Thunderhead, it is known to everyone on Skyloft that it's a natural event, but what they don't know is that the reason it happened is below the cloud barrier that blocks their view of the earth, it has been there for as long as they've known, so long in fact that the earth became a myth, but a myth it isn't, and an evil force is currently gaining it's strength back.

Day of the Wing Ceremony.

A girl is sleeping, unaware of the fact she's dreaming, for her, what she's seeing right now is reality: a void that contains only her, a few minutes have passed now, and no one as shown themselves, "Hello?" The girl said to the void, hoping someone would respond, and someone did, but who responded, made her wish no one did.

A black creauture, that funnily enough looked like an avocado appeared, but no matter how funny it looked, it towered over the girl, and it didn't look friendly at all, right when the girl thought the creature was about to attack, a light appeared above it, this light was emanated by a humanoid being, it had a menacing appearence, but it didn't seem dangerous, "Rise, Nika… the time has come for you to awaken… You are fated to have a hand in a great destiny, and it will soon find you… The time has come for you to awaken… Nika…".

The light got brighter, causing Nika to look away, but when it vanished, so did the two creatures. Now alone, Nika heard a noise and she turned to see what it was, one side... Nothing. The other... Face to face with a Loftwing.

The shock was enough to wake her up, meaning she fell off the bed, when Nika finally opened her eyes she saw her room in the academy, and with it's head in her window, the Loftwing from her dream, which spat a letter to her face.

Nika got up to read the letter, she opened it and read:

"Hey, sleepyhead. I know how much you like to sleep in, so I'm guessing this letter will be your alarm clock this morning. Did I guess right? Rise and shine, Nika! Today's the Wing Ceremony! You promised to meet me before it starts, remember? You'd better not keep me waiting. – Zelda."

Nika scratched her head and sighed "She's going to be the death of me one of these days..." She commented before going to get dressed.

Now dressed, Nika went to the Goddess Statue, where Zelda usually plays her lyre, stopping for a moment to get her professor's pet off the roof, when she arrived at the statue, she saw Zelda playing her lyre as sang "Oh youth. Guided by. The servant of the goddess. Untie earth and sky. Bring light to the land...", she stopped when she noticed that Nika was behind her.

"Hey! Good morning Nika! I'm glad to see my Loftwing got you out of bed." Zelda cheerfully said, not noticing the expression Nika made being reminded of the matter "Yeah... After it almost gave me a heart attack." She told Zelda who laughed, "Oh come on, don't be such a drama queen! Today is an important day after all, I even dressed for the occasion!" Zelda exclaimed, "Speaking of which, how do I look?" She asked, and Nika got and idea on how to get back at her, so she said "It's a wonderful costume."

Zelda was surprised at the 'costume' comment, "What's that supposed to mean you goof!?" Zelda said indignant, a bit after this, Gaepora, her father and headmaster of the academy, arrived at the statue, "Ah, there you are, Zelda. Are you all prepared for today's ceremony?" He said gaining the attention of the two girls, "Oh, hello, Father" Zelda replied, Gaepora noticed Nika was there too, so he turned to her and said "Ah, Nika,, you're here too. Outstanding. It's encouraging to see you up early, given your capacity for sleep. No doubt today's ceremony had you too excited to close your eyes for once!", Nika's expression turned back to a bothered one as she glared at Zelda who just looked away.

Gaepora sighed realizing what actually happened, but he continued "Anyways, if you win today's ceremonial race, you'll get to participate in the post-race ritual with Zelda, so give it your best out there.", Zelda turned to her father with her hand behind her head, "Yes. About that… Father, I don't know if she can do it! Recently Nika hasn't been practicing much at all for the ceremony! And even when she's out riding her Loftwing, she's just lazily gliding around. Probably daydreaming! I don't know what she's thinking. She's going to have to be in perfect control of her bird to win today." She explained.

Hearing this got Nika to act al hurt and offended "Zelda! How could you say that? I'm hurt! Really! But in all seriousness, I could use some practice.", Zelda smiled lightly at her friend's antics, "That's no problem, there is time for you to practice, besides, you and your Loftwing share a special connection, I've never seen anything like it." Gaepora said getting a smile out of Nika.

"You should still practice though!" Zelda exclaimed as she dragged Nika to a platform made specifically to get on the Loftwing, "You remember how to call your Loftwing right? Jump and whistle to signal it, got it?" Zelda explained and Nika nodded in confirmation, she got ready to dive, but Zelda pushed her off first, "Not according to plans!" Nika yelled before whistling for her Loftwing, but it didn't arrive, she whistled again, but still nothing.

Nika was beginning to panic, but Zelda caught her with her own Loftwing and brought her back to Skyloft's plaza, "Are you okay?" Zelda asked as she helped Nika to her feet, the latter replied "Yeah... But why didn't my Loftwing arrive?" she said this with a bit of anxiety in her voice, that's when the jerk of the island arrive, Groose and his friend, "I thought you two would be at the statue, what's the matter? Your bird isn't listening to your commands?" He said in a tone of superiotity that made Nika groan.

"Why didn't it come? I know it's quite lazy, but it always show it's orange feathered behind when I call it." Nika commented, and hearing orange feathered, made Groose reel back a little, it didn't go unnoticed by Zelda "What did you do?" She asked and Groose looked to the side while saying "I may or may not have blocked it in the cave behind the waterfall.", Nika got incredibly angry at this and punched Groose in the face before running to the academy to grab a sword to fend off the monsters in the cave.

One of Groose friends looked at him and commented "You'll really win her heart like this you know?", Groose turned to him and exclaimed "Shut up!"
