Deep in the forests of the Wild Area are places where no Rookidee chirp, where no Skwovet rustle the trees. Visiting Clefairy have compared them to the lunar Sea of Tranquility, although that feature surely has a different origin – for Hatterene, the Forest Witch, despite being a psychic pokemon, is not known to exist outside of this world.

Hatterene's senses and range have grown stronger with evolution, but so has their agony. They can not block out the thoughts of any people and pokemon to come nearby, but rather than sharing in positive moods, they experience them only as painful noise. Unable to concentrate on anything else, Hatterene try to share their suffering, inflicting the curse of psychic pokemon on any who venture too close. Linking minds with Hatterene does not truly allow others to understand them, as many curious and unfortunate witnesses can attest – but the headaches keep travelers away all the same, which is just as good from these pokemon's perspective.

Hatterene are a remarkably easy pokemon to frustrate with distractions, but the question is often asked: distractions from what? What is it that Hatterene so desperately want to focus on? Pokemon learn new moves fairly easily, but this is not the case for mages. Hatterene spend their days poring over a variety of techniques in search of the ultimate spell, regardless of whether they themselves can copy the move – for even a biological impossibility can point them in the right direction - then scratch out their findings on the forest's leaves in a script which seldom survives close observation. Such is the origin of the Technical Records which dot the dens of the Wild Area and have done so much to shake up Galar's League; we would be wise to leave them alone out of gratitude.
