Grimmsnarl's hair must be tangled enough to ensnare its rivals, but their hair tangles fast, perhaps too fast for their own good, for it can grow so matted as to prevent them from extending their own reach. In the wild, a whole pack of Impidimp, or even a wide variety of other primate species (so long as they have hands) gather around these large, hairy pokemon for protection and repay them with grooming; domestically, a trainer is usually on their own.

Elite trainers, admittedly, find it more than worthwhile to invest in a whole staff of hairdressers to keep their Grimmsnarl in perfect battle condition. But most who train these pokemon are not so elite, and are too busy with travel, practice, and even caring for the rest of their team to spend hours a day untangling just enough of their Grimmsnarl's coat. Crafty opponents have been known to analyze opposing Grimmsnarl for 'weak spots', body parts from where their hair can not leap out to snare an attacker, and consequently domestic Grimmsnarl often fail to live up to their formidable mystique.

It's not unheard of for a desperate trainer to blow-dry their Grimmsnarl's hair straight and leave them off their team for long enough to let their tangles to re-develop naturally. Others go so far as to release their matted pokemon into the wild and, if not frustrated enough with maintaining these pokemon to switch species entirely, catch another one to fulfill its old role. Yet those who opt for this route should be careful to promise nothing to these notoriously vengeful pokemon, for shed hair is often found on their teammates, and Grimmsnarl are true to their oaths...
