The Shield of Galar, Zamazenta has long protected the people of the region from natural disasters and rampaging dynamax pokemon, for it is all but impervious to the world's greatest dangers. Although Zacian is the stronger of the two royal warriors, Zamazenta has always been the more popular of the two; a shield protects, but a sword can only destroy.

Yet those diarchs who, over the country's long history, tried to take advantage of their partner's popularity to exceed their powers learned that Zamazenta's power had limits. For Galarians loved their constitution more than they did their protector deity, and Zacian with a young child for a trainer can still hold its own against Zamazenta, even if commanded by an elite war-king.

Zacian and Zamazenta last fought during the Galarian Revolution, for while Zacian's inclination is to solve problems with force, Zamazenta (despite the commands of its trainer at the time) saw its role as to defend the public from state power, even if said public was demanding the abdication of the kings. But although it could defend the people from an attempted royal massacre, it could not defend them from the chaos of the revolutionary period; rather than serve as a symbol for one of Galar's new, ever-changing leaders, Zamazenta apologized to Zacian and went into hiding.

Galar's history is long, and these periods of dissension, however exciting, were ultimately rare. It is unclear whether Zacian and Zamazenta are actually brothers, but whatever their disagreements, however fierce their battles, it should not be forgotten that the two have spent most of the past millennium-plus as teammates and close friends. Perhaps the day when they must again team up to protect Galar is not as far off as generally imagined...
