Paldea is known for its many restaurants and the wide variety of foods served therein. Yet go into the kitchen and there will be a common sight, known to chefs and owners if not always to waitstaff, let alone tourists: a meal cooking on a Crocalor's head.

Crocalor's telltale hat, despite a resemblance to Ludicolo's, serves a far different purpose; rather than soak up rain or some other nutrient, it serves as a miniature 'nest' for the egg a mysterious bird laid on what was once its hair. Crocalor warm the eggs in a manner akin to how many trainers use their Talonflame or Magcargo, but more interesting to humans is their nice, circular shape – perfect for placing a food plate between the pokemon and the egg.

The Crocalor enjoy this bargain – or perhaps it is the presence of a warm indoor room, shielded from the elements, that they really prize. Still, they do not eat the food on their head, except once at the beginning and once at the end of the day, and are happy to relax all day and play the role of ovens for their trainers.

Unfortunately for many a restaurant, it is only the intermediate form of Crocalor which is actually capable of playing such a role. Male Crocalor are preferred by restaurateurs, because when a female's eggs hatch, the newborn Fuecoco will eat everything in the kitchen, requiring a temporary closure and significant financial losses. The shape of Skeledirge's head does not match most plates, and if Skeledirge-shaped plates are employed, much of what is placed therein will be eaten by the newly hatched bird on its head. Trainers, however, prize Skeledirge, and many who compete in the Paldea League can look back fondly on a restaurant job they held before their evolution.
