Quaxly have a special fondness for art and anything that looks fashionable, and this does not only take the form, familiar to many trainers, of looking at themselves in the mirror or their reflections in water. They have resoundingly won the battle with Ducklett in the minds of cartoonists, although not in the real wilderness, both from their distinctive appearance and from their habit of flocking around anyone they see drawing. And, through the popularity of such beloved comics as Quanald Quax and Quaxly's Bizarre Adventure, these small and rare pokemon have won a special place around the world in the hearts of the human population.

Contrary to a popular myth, Quaxly were never actually hunted for their gel – if nothing else, befriending them gets one much more gel, so it would not be cost-effective. But Quaxly-inspired hairstyles have indeed swept the world, as young men seek to emulate their heroes. And gel from one particular Paldean farm, made from the excess production of real Quaxly, sells as a world-renowned artisan product; it is not, however, proven to be any more effective than other gels at maintaining the pokemon's distinctive hairstyle.

Unfortunately, Quaxly today are a relict population, restricted to a small part of Paldea if not outright extinct in the wild. Recent sightings are disturbingly rare, and they have been outcompeted by Ducklett and Wingull over most of their historic range. Their recent popularity has unfortunately not managed to increase their numbers, and trainers outside of Paldea, unless they have extreme wealth and the connections to get around anti-smuggling laws, must make do with comics and fantasies.
