He could not have been out more than a few minutes because he was still on the ground as chaos surrounded him. He slowly opened his eyes with a silent groan. His arm coming up but stopping as he gasp in agony and he eyes shot open as he clenched his teeth in pain. He has had his arms dislocated so many times and it never ceased to hurt. Placing his hand on his shoulder he took a breath as energy flowed through his shoulder and it popped back in to place as he gave a cry of pain which alerted the others that he was awake.

" Reid..Reid don't move your shoulder is dislocated." Morgan stated as Spencer shook his head.

" I just relocated it…" he said as Morgan looked at him in shock.

" Help me up…I'm fine" he said as he struggled to get up. He was so tired and sore. His entire left arm would be bruised in the morning for sure. Morgan tried to argue but Spencer was on his feet in a matter of minutes. Morgan sighed and helped him. Gaining purchase on his feet he reached over to cradle his arm and looked to Morgan.

" Thanks…what happened?" he asked as Prentiss and JJ were looking at him a bit warily. Morgan was tense under him and Hotch was looking at him with reserved curiosity.

" What, you don't remember?" Morgan sounded very surprised as he looked at him in confusion and a twinge of fear ran through him, what had he done. Shaking his head he had to stop as he suddenly felt nauseas taking a few deep breaths to calm himself so he did not get sick.

" No…I remember knowing I was going to get shot…I was not able to draw my pistol…" he said looking like he was trying to remember but frowned when he found he could not.

" Hey…hey…don't hurt yourself there pretty boy…come on…there is the ambulance…let let them check you out" he said as Spencer sagged in resignation and let his friend support him to the medics.

He did not answer any questions from anyone but the team, even though the local sheriff had all but demanded it. The unsub had died because the bullet and the gun had been crushed into his chest cavity. The girl that had been in the car had been in a white dress like the other girls and had been hysterical about the unsub having dressed her up after grabbing her from outside of her work and raping her in the back of his car. Spencer felt numb as he listened to her whisper what he had done to her. His eyes finding hers as he moved closer to her on the back of the ambulance when only Hotch was standing near as he hesitantly placed and hand on hers.

" I…can not understand what you are going through…but I just want you to know" and he leaned in as he sent a bit of magic into her to lessen her pain and whispered. " The mother spirit will never leave you…tonight ground yourself, as much of you as you can in the dirt…and a circle" before sitting back. Her eyes tearing up as her eyes met his and she smiled even through the tears as she nodded and he took his hand back. A bit more energy gone as he stood and looked to Hotch.

" I need…to…sit in the SUV…" he stated as his boss looked him over for a moment and nodded.

" We will be leaving shortly" he said as Spencer nodded and slowly moved to the SUV and crawling into the far back seats and used his bag as a pillow as he promptly passed out.

Spencer did not need magic to know a shift had happened on the last case. There was a hesitation now towards him except with Garcia she was still her bubbly loving self to him. He was sure that they thought it was some freak accident, at least that's what he hoped. He however went about as he normally did only far less vocal unless asked something directly. It had been a week and he had not grounded since. He had ignored his own advice and tried to ignore the itch that he felt in the middle of his chest and through to his back. His feet aches for soft fertile ground. His lungs longed for the rich ozone laden air of a secluded park. He however was looking at a file of two dead young children.

" The boys were found sixty yards of each other approximate time of death two days ago, same time they were reported missing my each other they're parents. " JJ stated a she showed the pictures of the two poor children. They looked no more than five. Both JJ and Hotch looking rather green as they could have been Henry and Jack.

" The boys looked to have been drowned and the medical examiner said they looked to have been hit by lightning." She added. Spencer glanced up them but did not lift his head. His eyes looking at the screen as the wounds were shown.

" Do we know if the bodies were dumped or were they killed there?" Morgan asked from his right. JJ looked to him and shrugged.
" If they were killed there it does not show that anything was hit by lightning, but it is by a small creek."
Hotch frowned and looked at the file in his hand.

" These kids were abducted from the elementary school during recess…the teachers on duty said they did not see any one unusual and the children were in the line to go inside but once they were inside it was like they were gone. Have we looked at teachers or staff that may have a record?" he asked and Garcia could be seen typing gone the split screen.

" Unless you count a couple of speeding tickets and a citation for public nudity in Ft. Lauderdale…no" Garcia however rose a brow as she looked at the screen.

" There is however a visitor to the school who has yet to be accounted for…they gave the name Joel Leaman"
Spencer's head shot up then as he narrowed his eyes.

" Was there surveillance of the school office?" he asked suddenly. Everyone looking at him in question because for him to have a reaction to a name was rare. The tapping of the mechanical keyboard the only sound for a moment before a video began playing on the other screen. Spencer narrowed his eyes.

"Joel Leaman wrote The Existential Muses, a study into the mind of a man who thought that nature had a way of controlling a persons thoughts and actions. Why in winter we grow depressed and in Spring we are happy" he stated softly.

" Joel Leaman was also a trans woman who had a deadly obsession with her young son"
Hotch frowned at that.

" So the unsub is killing children to fulfill the fantasy of being Joel Leaman?" Morgan sat back in his chair.

"But why?" he asked as Reid looked to Hotch.

" Leaman's own son died of a drowning….perhaps they were trying to recreate the drowning…to try and actually save them?" he frowned as it made it sound like it would be Leaman but he shook his head, Joel Leaman would be over a hundred years old. Reid however looked back up.

" A defibrillator would not have the energy of a bolt of lightning however."

" Wheels up on thirty" Hotch said as everyone began packing up. Reid almost felt normal but when he moved closer to some file by Morgan and he moved away slightly he stopped and just looked at them before adjusting the strap on his bag, turning to walk away. Morgan watching him as he felt a flush come to his face that he had flinched like that, but did not try to stop the young man from walking away, head ducked as if to get away quicker. Hotch glanced at Morgan and frowned slightly shaking his head before going to get his go back and call Jessi to watch Jack.
Morgan walking up to him.

" Look Hotch, I didn't mean to do that to Reid…honest…I just" he glanced around as he had seen the force rushing from Reid that day. He saw the gun crushed into the mans chest and it frightened him, but not just for his safety for Reid's as well. Hotch shook his head.

" Just try not to do it again, Reid is still the same man" he stated softly and Morgan nodded before walking off.

Reid sat in the darkened alcove chair of the plane, he was not particularly up for a conversation and the lights were hurting his eyes so he was trying to just sit in the darkness for now. He looked out the window as the evening sky illuminated the clouds in bright orange and pinks with dark blues. He traced his finger on the small table in front of him as some clouds flowed with them changing into deformed shapes. He felt calm run through him as he rubbed his fingers together, looking down as they were wet from the actual clouds outside. His eyes widening in fear before wiping them hastily on his shirt. Before turning his attention to the chair that was facing him.

It was empty.

His eyes burned but his eyes remained dry, closing them when a headache forced him to rub his eyes and a flash of a memory that he did not remember having before. An old playground with a large green slide. He winced as the ache dulled. Keeping his eyes closed and turned his head to face the wall away from the lights.

" The flight to Louisiana had been long so when they disembarked the plane and were met with the hot sticky heat of New Orleans in the middle of July they were less than happy. Reid most of all because he could not use his magic to stay cool, not here with his team. He opted a couple of moments off the plane to just wear his dress shirt with the sleeves rolled up, his still bruised arm on full display and no tie. His hair sticking to his face in places as he sweat. The hotel luckily had cold rooms he however waited for the others to go up before he went to the front desk and bought his own room near the team. He would not make anyone feel uncomfortable. He had just finished paying when Hotch's voice washed over him.
" What are you doing?" he asked, very serious looking to the hotel key card that was passed to him.

Reid glanced at him and flushed his eyes not even meeting his.

" I just think its better if I got my own room this time…I don't mind"before Hotch could say anything he moved past him. He heard his named being called but he did not stop as he opted for the stairs, thus missing Morgan and JJ coming down the elevator.

His room was a regular sized one. He however frowned deep when he saw it was the type that could be adjoined to another room by a locked set of doors. He made sure his side was locked and towels stuffed under his side of the door. He put the TV on PBS to see British comedy and he watched for a moment. He glanced around the empty room as his chest tightened and he brought a fist to his mouth to hold back a sob. His other arm wrapping across his torso in a hug, doubled over as his body shook silently. Hot fat tears falling from his eyes. The only sound in the room was ragged breathing after a few moments. His vision blurred from the crying. The focus slowly coming back as he was met with his own reflection in the mirror. His hair was a mess as always. His eyes bloodshot, skin blotchy from crying. Lips full and raw from being worried. The reflection also showing the snow falling in his room from his emotions. Slamming his eyes shut he let out a shuttered breath willing it all away. The normal cool returning and he opened his eyes to just see himself in the mirror again but this time normal. Taking a deep breath the itchy ache making it difficult to breath.

Hotch frowned as he watched Reid walk away and ignore him. When he walked out of sight his attention turned to Morgan and JJ as the elevator opened and the walked out talking quietly.

" The sheriff will have as many people at the station that he can in the morning unless something develops over night, but we will be called if something does happen" JJ stated as she walked up to Hotch. Her and Morgan and Emily were going to get food as they were all just tired and hungry from the plane ride.

" We are going to get some Chinese, coming?" Emily asked as she finally walked up joining them.
Hotch shook his head.

" I want to go over the profile again before a shower and bed…tomorrow will be here before we know" he said as he however felt like something was going to happen before then.

At three am Reid left his hotel room. The door clicking closed behind him as he walked down the hall towards the elevator. In the middle of New Orleans there were very few good natural places use where he would not get see. He however had been happy to see the small over grown lot near the hotel. He first dug into the grass for fresh dirt. The cool earth soothing to the touch as it was cool compared to the sweltering 3am heat. His FBI lounge pants rolled up and the long over sized FBI shirt that went past his knees and down his arms like a child playing dress up. Shaky hands set out four tea light candles and drew a circle quickly. He then grew still as he wiggled his toes into the cool dirt. He however winced as a headache hit him, the lights of the city hurting his eyes all of a sudden as he gasped in pain. The candles around him coming to life and the low rumble sounded from above. Blinking away the pain Reid fell to his knees, his hands grasping at the soil desperately. A tingle ran through his body starting from where his skin met the earth to the tip of his nose. The air growing thick making it a labor to breath. He muttered low in a pained whisper before bright white light shot from him in arching purple and white bolts to the sky as the ground rocked in the resounding crash. Alarms went off in the area including the hotel. Rain fell in heavy sheets soaking him instantly where he lay his face in the dirt gasping for breath. The front of his pants soaked and sticky, his body super sensitive as the rain fell hard and fast.

Slowly hefting himself to his feet after a long ten minutes. Completely drenched, he looked skyward bare toes wiggling in the mud. A smile finally falling to his lips the laugh that left his lips like bells as all of his tension and anxiety crashed through the air and away from him. Clenching his fist the crackling ran up his arms until he slammed his palms into the grounds and energy flowed through it as he gave back to the mother spirit.
An hour later her reentered the hotel, he was spotless, only his hair was still damp and curlier than normal. His movements were fluid and elegant as he felt like he was floating. The vending machines humming as he moved to look into the glass view to see what there was on offer. As always grounding made him so very hungry. The twix bar being the winner. He bounced on the balls of his feet as he waited for the snack to drop.

" A bit late for a snack"
Reid turned and blinked as Rossi stood behind him. He was in shorts and a t-shirt looking rather bed rattled but Spencer did not say anything about it.

" I think my blood sugar is low" he however stated as he bent down and plucked the snack from the tray.
" Goodnight Rossi" he said softly but Rossi's hand stopped him.

" If you ever need to talk" he stated. Spencer blinked and flushed as he looked down slightly before turning and walking out of his grasp. It was easy to sleep the rest of the night and he even woke at seven so he was down early to breakfast, his nose in a book.
