Sam found his lost shoe

A/N: October 18th was the 16th birthday of my fav episode from season 3; Bad Day at Black Rock. I got inspired to write a short humorous fic. What if they travel back to a place they haven't been in years to eradicate a vampire nest. There Sammy makes an incredible discovery; his lost shoe *laughs*. Set in season 15. Hope you'll love reading this :)

Black Rock, near Buffalo NY; 13 years ago

Sam Winchester has lost his shoe due to bad luck from a rabbit's foot stolen from John Winchester's storage place, which Bela Talbot had then proceeded to stole from the brothers.

Lebanon, Kansas, Winchester Bunker; Present time

It's Wednesday morning, the brothers were in the bunker eating their pancakes and drinking their coffee. Sam was as usually researching, looking for cases meanwhile Dean was still trying to wake up. He really wasn't a morning person. Even though they did hunt less nowadays, they mostly did to keep in shape mostly. Sam suddenly frowned reading the article he was concentrated on once again. A vampire nest had been seen around Black Rock not far from the sewers. "You got to be kidding me!" This shook Dean out of his reverie. "What's wrong? Who did what?" His younger brother slid the laptop over the table so Dean could read. The latter chuckled. "Oh man okay it will be fun not the sewer part but we're going back to Black Rock Sammy. That should bring back some memories, right? C'mon let's leave in a few we'll be there hopefully before nightfall. Sam had mixed feelings about this place. Like something bad was going to happen because when did something go right for the Winchesters. This was where he had been cursed by his father's rabbit's foot because he had lost it, lost his shoe in the process and fell flat on his face earning a week long teasing from his older brother. Dean, on the other hand had gotten lucky, saved the day by claiming to be awesome and to be Batman. Sam sighed and got up. He went to his room to pack his duffel sulking a bit. Dean texted Garth about the hunt to let him know they would be unavailable should something other come up.

A few rooms down the floor, Dean was in his room packing as well and reminiscing about that day thirteen years ago. Maybe not everything went right on that day especially for his brother. However, he hoped this time around everything would go smoothly. He finished packing his duffel and went to meet his brother in the garage. They put the cooler with the beers and smoothies on the back seat and put their duffel bags in the trunk. Dean sat in the driver seat while Sam snuggled against the window in the driver's seat as they drove the long way from Kansas to New York. Dean turned the radio on while slowly driving on. Truth be told, he had missed those long drives with his little brother dozing off next to him.

18 hours later

"Sammy wake up we arrived at our destination. Look we're at the same hotel I told you not to scratch your nose and shit still went down. I saved your ass here." The younger Winchester woke up groaning, clearly not amused to be reminded of that memory. He got out of the car, got their duffel bags out of the trunk and brought them to their room. "Ugh too many memories linger around here Dean. I don't think this was a good idea after all coming here." Dean didn't follow him right away, he noticed he got a text from Garth telling him the hunt's off because apparently another hunter pair had ganked them. "Son of a bitch!"

Hearing his older brother swear, Sam ran outside thinking someone attacked him. "Dean?! What happened?

"Freaking other hunters happened. Garth just texted saying the vamps got ganked. This place is seriously bad luck still after those years. Hey I'm not driving back to Kansas tonight so whatever you do please be careful."

Sam sighed but then an idea crossed his mind. "Hey dude I'll check the diner out where I lost my shoe – stop don't look at me like that. Anyway I want to know if it's still down there." The younger Winchester quickly left. Luckily he hadn't far to go. 20 minutes later, he was standing in front of a sewers entrance, which led up to the diner; Biggerson's. Sam switched his flashlight on and halfheartedly entered. Why did he have such a crappy idea in the first place? After 10 minutes of searching, he found what he was looking for and funnily enough, his shoe was still here as if it had been waiting for him. He picked it up and put it in his backpack. What he wasn't expecting was slipping right afterwards. As he fell, he managed to sprain his ankle. Ouch that hurt. "Well crap… This place is indeed bad luck." Sam pulled his phone out, calling his brother. "Hey Dean, yeah I got the shoe but… I fell and sprained my ankle. Can you come get me, please? There's a sewer entrance leading to the diner, I left the door open."

Dean rolled his eyes. They were never ever coming back to this place. First time his little brother nearly got killed now this gigantor sprained his ankle. He made his way to get his brother out of the stinking sewers. As he got to where his brother was, he had to suppress his laugh. Sam sat flat on his ass, supporting a puppy eyes look and clearly in pain. "Okay Sasquatch let's get you out of here. You notice the similitude though? It's the second time I save your bacon here because I'm awesome." Sam sighed and put his weight on Dean who helped him get back to their hotel room. Dean cleaned him up as best as he could and put ice from the cooler on his foot. Sam yelped in pain. "I'm sorry Sammy. I'll take care of it at home. For now take those painkillers for the road and stretch in the back. Dean packed their stuff; put the duffels back in the trunk. Then opened the back door to help his brother lay down, he laid the blanket and an icepack under his brother's injured foot. "Promise I'll avoid any potholes but I'll get us home fast. Try to sleep little brother."

Dean sat down behind the wheel and silently swore. He never liked seeing his brother hurt. He didn't even turn the radio on for the drive to let Sam sleep in the back, it was going to be a long drive. Dean stopped 3 hours in for a coffee break then proceeded to drive straight through to Kansas and then back home.

Once arrived, he drove into the garage then proceeded to open the back door to wake his brother up. "Sammy you gotta wake up, we're home. There's no way I'm gonna carry you so lean on me." Sam started laughing imaging his older brother trying to carry his 6'4'' features and probably fall down halfway to their rooms. "Yeah let's not dude, I don't need a broken foot also you don't need to be such a jerk about this. It was your idea going back." Dean rolled his eyes and helped his brother out of baby supporting his weight. "Stop bitching around and move your flamingo legs." With the combined help of his brother, they reached the younger Winchester's room in 15 minutes. Dean made Sam lay down on his bed, propping up the pillows under the injured foot and running out of the room again. He was turning from older brother into protective mother hen Dean, a persona his little brother was not getting rid of so soon.

Before going to make his brother something to eat, he was going to take care of his injured ankle. Good thing they had enough gauze and everything else they needed. Dean went to the bunker's infirmary and took everything he needed. He went back to Sam's room to see the latter reading a book. "How's the foot big guy?" Sam sighed. "It's okay, I had worse." Dean smiled weakly, he knew his younger brother was in pain but didn't say anything. He wrapped the gauze around Sam's foot. "Good thing we aren't going on so many hunts anymore, you need the rest little brother. I'll fetch us something to eat."

Having every intention to spend the first night in his brother's sight because protective older brother mode be damned and he couldn't tune his 'Watch out for Sammy' alert off, he went to his room to grab a spare memory foam mattress with a pillow and brought it to Sam's room. Sam grinned knowing what his brother was doing. "Oh Dean please never change." He thought. Even if he sometimes showed annoyance towards Dean's motherhenning, Sam was glad someone was there to take care of him.

Further down in the bunker, Dean went to the kitchen glad he went on a grocery run shortly before they left so he didn't have to leave his brother. He started making cheeseburgers and fries for the both of them. While the cheeseburgers cooked, Dean went to unpack their duffels and get the cooler. Going back to the kitchen, he checked if the burgers were good then he got a strawberry banana smoothie and a beer out of the cooler. He then took two plates out, put the burgers and fries on it, putting extra salad on Sam's one. Grabbing the drinks first he brought them to Sam's room. "Food's coming dear brother." Dean quickly went to get the burgers from the kitchen to his brother's room. "Tada cheeseburgers and you got extra salad on yours plus a smoothie you love so much." While they ate Dean's thoughts could run wild. He kicked himself for getting his brother hurt, this was clearly on him and his stupid idea.

Sam knowing perfectly what was going, elbowed his brother, which earned him a side glare. "Dude stop thinking it was your fault. I was the one who found the case in the first place then secondly I wanted to see if my shoe was still there. This is on me not you. You need to stop worrying about me, I already told you years ago some of your wisdom hair are the reason you worry too much. You need to relax Dean."

Dean smiled. "Don't go all Yoda on me Sammy. I'm the older brother I have a right to worry about you 10 years ago or now. Alright try to get some sleep, I'll go wash the dishes and soon join you."

Sam sighed knowing he was right. Dean sat up and left Sam's room with the plates in hand walking towards the kitchen. Once in the kitchen, he slowly washed the plates and his beer glass. He took the moment in. This was their lives now, barely hunting only occasionally and mostly taking time for themselves. They have earned their vacation on the beach, no monsters around just them two.

Once he dried up the dishes, he switched the lights off and went back to Sam's room for the night. Sam was waiting for him. "How's the pain? Need painkillers for the night?" His brother nodded. Dean gave him two Tylenol with water. "This should help." He took his black t-shirt off and laid down on his memory foam mattress.

"This feels all too familiar, we rarely spend the night together – don't look at me like that I didn't mean it in the creepy way jeez…" Sam's face had cringed for a second. He had read stories about people shipping them, which was utterly gross. "You know what I meant. Anyway, it's time to sleep and try not to move too much so your foot can rest."

"Night jerk"

"Goodnight bitch"

A/N: Once in the inspiration came flowing, it wrote itself. I'm surprised with myself this time. Btw the strawberry banana smoothie is my favorite. Also Dean in the black t-shirt is so hot plus you get to imagine him shirtless :p
