Chapter 1, Overslept.
Harry slowly woke up and expected that everything had been a dream, he doubted that a giant of a man could have come and told him that he was a wizard, he doubted that he was going to be leaving the Dursleys and that he would be going to a magical school.
Harry heard a faint tapping sound and thought that it was his Aunt Petunia knocking on his cupboard door to wake him up, however when Harry opened his eyes he wasn't in his cupboard he was in the old cottage using Hagrid's coat as a blanket.
The tapping sound came again and Harry spotted a owl with a newspaper in it's beak tapping on the window wanting to be let in, the owl looked very unhappy it seemed like it had been waiting for quite some time.
Harry let the owl in and it dropped the newspaper on Hagrid (who was still asleep), the owl then impatiently attempted to rummage through Hagrid's coat, Harry tried to stop the owl but only received a bite on the hand for his troubles.
"Hagrid, there's an owl" said Harry as he held his now bleeding hand, "Pay him" yawned Hagrid, "What?" asked Harry, "He wants paying for the paper, moneys in my coat" said Hagrid slowly waking up.
Harry looked through Hagrid's coat pockets and found some coins along with countless other things, "Give him five knuts, their the little bronze ones" said Hagrid, Harry put the money in the bird's leather pouch while also avoiding the owl's beak, after this the owl flew out of the widow and away.
"Right, best be off, we've got lots to do, need to get all of your school supplies" said Hagrid as he put his boots and coat on, Harry was just about to ask how he was going to pay for everything when Hagrid pulled a watch out of his coat only for his smile to fall and his eyes to widen.
"Blimey is that the time, we should have been gone an hour ago" said Hagrid sounding just a little bit worried, Harry wondered just how long that owl had been trying to wake then while he and Hagrid quickly got ready and then left the old cottage.
Soon the two was in the little boat that Hagrid charmed to move by itself, while speeding towards shore Harry noticed that Hagrid had a worried look on his face that he was trying to hide, "Hagrid are you OK" asked Harry.
"I'm fine, it's just that Dumbledore asked me to do a job for him and we're already late" said Hagrid, Harry didn't know what this job was but he had a feeling that it was important.
Harry and Hagrid reached the shore and then took a train to London, once there Hagrid led Harry to an old pub called The Leaky Cauldron, inside the pub Harry found out just how famous he was in the Wizarding world, everyone wanted to meet him and shake his hand, it was only by Hagrid's insistence that they was running late that they was able to get through so quickly.
"Told you you was famous didn't I" said Hagrid as he led Harry though the back of the pub to a walled in courtyard, in this courtyard there was a pale man dressed in purple who was facing a wall with his wand in hand.
"Hello Professor Quirrell, I didn't know you was here" said Hagrid startling the man, "H-Hagrid so n-nice to see you" said Quirrell stuttering, "Harry this is Professor Quirrell, he be one of your teachers at Hogwarts" said Hagrid.
"H-Harry Potter, I can't tell you how p-pleased I am to meet you" said Quirrell as he shook Harry's hand while eyeing his scar, "What do you teach" asked Harry, "D-Defence against the d-dark arts" answered Quirrell.
"Right then, we've got lots to buy, Professor Quirrell would you do the honers" said Hagrid, "O-of course" said Quirrell who proceeded to tap a few bricks with his wand, then the wall opened up creating an archway to a street with many shops.
"Welcome to Diagon Alley" said Hagrid as the three walked down the street, it was at this point that Harry finally asked Hagrid something that had been bothering him all day "Hagrid how am I going to pay for everything, I haven't got any money".
"Don't worry, your parents left you plenty of money, it's all in Gringotts the wizards bank" said Hagrid gesturing to a snow-white building that towered over the others.
"R-Right then, I m-must go, I've got to p-pick up a new book on v-vampires" said Quirrell as he entered a shop called Flourish and Blotts, "Is he always that nervous " asked Harry as he watched Professor Quirrell go.
"Afraid so, poor broke, he used to be fine back when he used to teach Muggle studies, but then he took a year off to get some first hand experience to teach Defence against the dark arts, he came back like this and has never been the same since" sighed Hagrid.
The two entered Gringotts and was taken to Harry's vault which was filled with more money then Harry had ever seen before, while they was at the bank Hagrid also took something from vault seven hundred and thirteen, he didn't tell Harry what it was but he seemed relieved to have it in his pocket.
Once they left the bank Hagrid left to get a drink at the Leaky Cauldron while Harry went to get his uniform from Madam Malkin's Robes for All Occasions, Harry entered the shop just as a blond haired boy who was Harry's age was leaving.
There was no one else in the shop so getting his robes fitted was a rather dull experience, while Harry was sitting there he wondered if he would have been able to talk to that boy he saw if he and Hagrid had woken up on time.
After this Harry and Hagrid got the rest of Harry's school supplies and Hagrid also bought Harry a snowy owl as a birthday present who Harry named Hedwig, along the way Harry considered asking Hagrid more about Hogwarts but he didn't even know how to start that conversation.
At the end of the day Hagrid gave Harry his train ticket and dropped him off at the Dursleys, as Harry walked through the front door he realised that despite everything that had happened today he really didn't know any more about this school he was going to then he did yesterday.
