Chapter 1.
The sun beat down on the group of teenagers, forcing them to shield their eyes to be able to take in the sight before them: The grocery store.
"There's barely anyone here. Is the store even open yet?" the dark-haired girl grumbled. "Their website says they opened at six," offered Cooper. He eyed the store warily. "It is pretty empty though." "Are we really complaining about not having to deal with a bunch of people?" the other girl of the group asked.
The final member of the group rolled his eyes. "We're here because it's the best time to come," Buck stated, glancing at the list that he'd already memorized. "...Why?" Jules asked, flicking some dark tendril of hair off her face. "Because the rush of early mornin' folks have already come, but there's not enough of them to cause everythin' to be picked over," Buck explained. "Let's just get this over with then," Bridget heaved out with a sigh.
Cooper led the way into the grocery chain. "I'm assuming we'll need a cart," he said, already rolling a large one out of the line. "Grab two," Jules advised. "Buck's with us." Buck cut her a glare as the other two tried to stifle their laughter. "Oh yeah, go ahead; Laugh it up," he muttered. "Seriously thought; we might need two carts. We need a lot of groceries," Bridget said. "That's true," Cooper said. "We've got us four; Mom, Dad, and Trey; Eugene and Katrina; Connie, Mrs. Perkins, and Wyatt. That's twelve people. And we need enough groceries for 5 days." Buck didn't say anything; just grabbed a second cart.
"Alright. I'm thinkin' we oughta stick together. We each know what our respective families prefer, so if we were to split up, we'd all have to go through the sasme aisles anyway," Buck said. "Fine with me." Jules shrugged. "That works." "Yeah." "Let the shopping trip, begin!" Cooper said with a flourish.
