The next morning, after the guys eat breakfast and shower, they decide to go into town to participate in the Halloween activities.
A local teen walks over to the great them.
"Hi, I'm Alex. Did you just move here? I've never seen you guys here before. You're celebrities. I listen to your music." He says
"No, we're just staying in the cabin down the road from here." Kendall answers.
Nice to meet you Alex. We're always happy to meet a fan.
"Even being in a famous boy band, do you have time to enjoy Halloween?" Alex asks.
"Yeah, we sure do. Thankfully, our manager, Gustavo, lets us have fun."
Kendall says.
"Awesome, I'm glad he does too." Alex says, fist bumping him.
Where's Katie? Didn't she want to come?
"No. She didn't want to come. She's back home in the Palm Woods. She was worried being in the woods would disconnect her from the internet," Kendall says.
We told her she would be fine without it for a few days but she rolled her eyes and walked away.
"Is she that addicted?" Alex asks.
"She's becoming more involved in posting on social media. Yes, it might be a bit of an addiction." Logan says, laughing.
"That's hilarious. I have an activity you guys can try. Ever tried pumpkin carving?" Alex says.
"Not much. It's always so messy," James says.
"That's OK. I'll show you guys how to have a lot of fun carving pumpkins,"
Alex offers, happy to help them out.
They sit at a table and he gives them the tools needed for the activity.
"What's the first step?" Carlos asks.
"You scoop the guts out, which takes a long time to do. That's the boring part." Alex replies, putting pumpkins on the table.
After that's done, they move on to the next step.
"How do we carve awesome designs that are spooky?" James asks, eager to learn.
That's the part that frustrates me. I see amazing designs all the time during Halloween. I'm jealous of the skill and patience it takes.
"You have to use the right tools, which is what I gave you guys," Alex replied.
Watch me first.
He carefully demonstrates by carving SpongeBob as a vampire.
"Whoa, that's really good," Carlos says, impressed.
"Thanks, I know you're a fan of SpongeBob. I watched an online interview," Alex says.
"Cool, thanks for noticing. I really appreciate that." Carlos says, smiling.
He and the rest of the guys try carving their pumpkins. After 30 minutes, he lets out a frustrated sigh.
"What's wrong Carlos?" Logan asks because they're sitting next to each other.
"I messed up on my design!" Carlos replies, angrily looking at the results.
"What's it supposed to be?" Logan says, looking at it.
"The teenage mutant ninja turtles! I really messed up!" Carlos says, trying to control the anger rising inside of him.
"It's really cool looking. I like TMNT too." Alex says, trying to cheer him up.
"It's terrible!" Carlos yells as he smashes the pumpkin on the ground.
The others stare in shock that he would destroy his own art.
"Whoa, amigo. Why did you do that? It was fine." Kendall says, still staring at the splattered pumpkin.
The young Latino is nearly in tears and feels overwhelmed.
"Whoa, buddy, you don't have to cry. It's OK. You can start over. Alex can help you." Logan says.
"It's too late! I'm terrible at this!" Carlos says.
"Pumpkin carving doesn't come natural to everyone. It can take months, even years of practice to get the design just right, but you don't have to be an expert in one day. You've just got to keep trying." Alex points out
"I'm good at hockey. I've been playing since I was six," Carlos says.
"You've been carving a pumpkin for only 30 minutes. It's not the same as hockey," Alex replies.
"Maybe we should do a different activity. He's really stressed out." James says, noticing his buddy's dwindling mood.
"I don't want to do anything else, my head hurts!" Carlos says, aggravatingly rubbing it.
"We should get him back to the cabin. Sorry about this Alex." Kendall says, feeling bad they have to leave their new friend.
"That's OK. Hopefully tomorrow night he'll feel well enough to go trick or treating," Alex said.
"He definitely wouldn't want to miss that," Kendall says, walking away with the others.
